Resolutions - golf and otherwise for 2023

EasyPutter

Recommended Posts

Here is is again, time for another New Year celebration and what is one of those without making RESOLUTIONS for the coming year?!  Personally I am not going to be looking to use golf as a way to fund my retirement unless people would pay me NOT to play 🤭 but that would only cause me to play somewhere else.

2021 I played 109 rounds.  2022 I played 124 rounds.  My resolution is to play more rounds in 2023 than I did in 2022.

My other than golf resolution is the same one I first made when I was 21 and have been making very year so it is the most consistently successful resolution I know of.  My resolution is to make a resolution next year.

Mine has consistently been to have fun when I play. Played not so hot yesterday, still had fun. Also almost had a gator encounter. I’m going to try and avoid that going forward. 🐊

Driver: Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  R flex   - 44.25

Fairways:  Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood  Alta CB red 65 R flex

Hybrid:  Ping G410  26 degree  Alta CB Red 70 R flex

Irons: Ping G430  7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex

Wedges:  Ping 195 S54, E58

Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat

Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5”

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

I just simply want to play regularly. With baby 2 coming in June it will be a challenge but getting 9 hole rounds in and some regular play is my main goal.

My golf resolution for the year is in line with what @revkev said, to have more fun on the course.

I think I've taken my game too seriously the last year and a half and my enjoyment and playing have suffered. It's a blessing to be able to play this game and just get out and enjoy the time I can get on the course.

My resolution last year was the same as yours. Have more fun.
In 2021 I was constantly  chasing scratch. However when I look back at 2022 I had 6 instead of 12 rounds in the 60’s. Was I having more fun, not sure. But I know I was not as focused and didn’t do much testing. I also know I was getting tired of playing my course. 16 years will do that to you. But I also know shooting in the 60’s was a lot of fun.

I will be joining a new club in the next few days / weeks.  My resolution will be the opposite of last season. See how low I can go on a new course. New challenges get me pumped up. New people to meet and play with.

It's like a Sunday drive in the country, it needs no reason or concern, it needs no particular outcome other than participating and recognition for what it is- getting out onto an open road filled with fun, unexpected curves and adventure.    Sounds like you could have a great upcoming season.

Fifteen years ago my wife made the opposite resolution as you but she has also been perfect in keeping it.  She resolved to never make another resolution.  🤣

Let's see... this year I shot my age; I shot under par; so I guess I will make a resolution to hold a round together so I can shoot in the 60's.  If I take my best front nine and combine it with my best back nine in 2022, I'm there.  Hard to do when playing them together!!

In life I resolve to be more positive in my outlook... maybe the two resolutions are related.  🤔

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

It's definitely going to be a fun time for you getting to play at a new place. You knew your old club like the back of your hand and I can imagine figuring out a strategy for the new course will be enjoyable.

Actually have one more. My wife wanted to start doing something other than well house stuff and time with the dogs. I had asked her a while back if she wanted to go to the range with me and she said she would, but we never ended up going. For Christmas this year I got her a used set of clubs, nothing fancy or expensive, but now she can come to the range and we can bring baby with us for her to start her golfing adventure. If she likes it great, if she just likes going to the range great and if she doesn't then we can at least say we tried. So with that a resolution will be for us to get some range time in before baby 2 comes in June. That and we also have a net in the back... but there are some windows nearby....

Here is something that would be right down your fairway, goes in the category of why limit yourself.

Big one for me this year is to be more mindful while practicing and playing. So often I can get too easily frustrated, which can lead to a round, several rounds or even weeks of poor play like what happened near the end of last season. Simply stepping back and evaluating what just happened, why it happened, and what I can do to correct it would go a long way toward improving my game.

The largest goal for me is to break 90 every round, every know and then I have huge fluctuations in my scores so I want to tighten things up. If I could stay at my pace of 50-60 rounds I’d be happy. I’d like to get my first 🦅 this year. Lastly I have the need for speed! I want more distance off the tee box, if I can average 250-270 it will allow me to play in the men’s club championship. Just had a round where I average about 230 with no roll in Hawaii on a soft and slow course. Here’s to 2023!!

Happy New Year to all the members on this site, I joined recently and have had fun reading the posts. My resolution for 2023 started in August of 2022. After 8 years of serious competition and working with my "team" I decided and will continue to "play my game". The one that I have worked hard to achieve and now have some fun with it. Having said that I have a session with my sports psychologist on January 16th. and will have a shaft fitting in the new year but I am certain of my strengths and my areas of opportunity so will go with those this year...

Happy New Year to all the spies....................

Annual resolution for me has been the same for numerous years, and hopefully will remain the same for many more to come, use it in all aspects of life.

"I am not trying to be better than anyone else. I am trying to be better than I was..........."

I try to make each day the best it possibly can be, as we never know when the end is coming.

My 2023 Golf resolution is practice, practice, and practice to work on my swing to improve my ball striking. I was very inconsistent with my irons this year. I have several videos from Danny Maude as my guide and am looking into online coaching. I have my hitting mat and net ready. I want add some additional “padding” under my mat. I will go with the interlocking gym mats.

2022 was a year of starting various activities.  2023 has to be the year most get completed.

-After a tropical storm, our small back yard landscaping was destroyed (by one Spanish Lime tree limb).  My wife wanted to put in a small dipping pool to as the patio was no longer in the shade.  I held out until she agreed to install an outdoor putting green.  In the end, we both got what we wanted.  The pool is about a month away from being done and my putting green is sitting in the back yard in boxes.  Both need to get done ASAP!

-Expand my new golf-related activity as a Florida State Golf Association course rater.  In 2022 I volunteered, took the classes and passed the qualification test.  This year (for the next several hours anyway), I was on the rating team for two courses.  For 2023, I'd like to at least double that to at least four courses.

-Finally, I want to add some weights to my walking regimen I started in 2022 at the gym.   I'm not likely to get DeChambeau-ed bulked up, but regaining some strength hopefully will help my golf game and general fitness.

Here's to a great 2023!

Goals for 2023 is to be a little better than I was in 2022.  Specifically, last year I wanted to break 90 and shoot 90s consistently.  Done, so this year I want to break 85 and have a bogey handicap.

Owen and I are hoping to take part in more charity outings and scrambles and such.  We are going to need to figure out a way to find this information ahead of time.

Speaking of which, Owen explained to my wife the idea of a scramble and now she's more interested in the idea of golfing with me.  She's been secretly practicing for a while but she doesn't want to go out and slow me/other people down.  I'm hopeful I can get her on board!

Finally, while I enjoy golf, lifting weights really puts me in a good mental place.  I'm hoping to carve out enough time to do both this summer.

I'm hoping to get down below 5 this year. Aim to practice everyday, now I have a putting green in my office that is going to be easy. Also looking to play as many Tuesday comps as I possibly can. I carried 5 days of leave over so should be able to do at least 10 without incurring the wrath of the wife 🙂
