Morning spies. Got my irons spec checked the other day and I get to pick them today. Bit worries about how whack they will be on a count of some outrageous differences in irons. This got me thinking, and hopefully any instructors or fitters could fill in here, is it better to get your clubs fit or bent to how your swinging or change your swing to fit your clubs loft and lie specs??

You want them to fit your swing, not the other way around.  It's easier that way.  And it will help your misses tighten up, or it should if done correctly.

I'll try to get that report.  I know the guys in the shop, but they just got this so we will see how it goes.  The main reason for doing this is to make adjustments to my “extra” Ping putter for my Kuchar reverse armlock experiment.  I’m not making a change because I have putting troubles, but I’m curious about Kuchar’s new stroke because I think it’s close to how I use my right arm with my current putter in a standard setup.  Just want to give it a try.

I will start with my Ping gamer putter and my usual stroke to establish a baseline.  Then have them tweak loft and lie on my other Ping putter to give me the best fit for reverse armlock stroke.  The two Pings are the same except for length and lie angle.  

I really have no idea what my best setup would be for reverse armlock, including ball position.  The video you posted about Bruce Rearick was interesting; I think I will have to experiment.

You may have unique setup things, but there aren’t that many different strokes.  Probably… but I have never seen anyone else with my putting stroke.  I’m hoping that SAM PutLab doesn’t find a huge flaw that I should correct right before Kingsmill.    Why in the heck am I doing this right now???

Forgot to mention in my earlier post.  My middle daughter has an orthodontist appointment and hopefully gets her expander taken out today.  She has had the tummy issues and we are hoping that the removal of the expander may have a role in all this.  We shall see.  Besides that, her doctor appt last week is leading her to get a scope done to see what is going on.  Hopefully we get all this resolved.

Good morning fellow spies from another sunny and breezy Cancun day. No check in yesterday as I was trying to be mobile free the majority of the day. Currently set up on the beach and will move to the pool later today. Have also avoided significant sunburn but I’ll tell you what. SPF 50 doesn’t work the same in Mexico as it does in Wisconsin

We are here till Saturday morning then flying back home. We do miss the kiddos, who have been having a good with with the grandparents.

I think I tend to agree. Gear to fit your swing. Can make some little tweaks if needed.

Good morning spies!

Very excited to watch The Players all weekend. Will have it up most of the day on the side while I attempt to get some work done.

Weather is very rainy all day in Chicago. Going to be living vicariously through those of you golfing today. Might attempt to hit up a simulator either today or tomorrow after work, but we'll see.

Happy Community Call day as well! Always a treat on Thursdays. Hope to see some of you there!

Good morning/afternoon spies!

Just completed the back 9 of El Dorado Park GC. Feeling really good about it. Was aiming to shoot between 48-55 on the par 36 and ended at 53. Felt good to get out there on a bigger course and you can catch me playing 18 asap! Besides that, some light course work to complete for Windows Powershell which is vastly different but easier than Linux. Mr. Pickles is starting to come around but now he is being 'princess'd' around the apartment too much for me. I'm thinking way ahead here, but some nice chicken with chimmichurri and vegetables will be on the dinner menus later.

Good morning all!

 

Sure, it's afternoon here... but it's been a busy morning.  We're having the insulation updated today and the crew got here 10 minutes before I needed to go to the bus stop.  Those of you with kids will know that is the exact worst time for something unexpected to be dealt with.  

Somehow, I managed to get the kids to the bus stop before the bus!  Got some work done, got a haircut, and now I'm back here to get some more work done, and hopefully get on the community call today before we head to scouts this evening.

Phew that was a lot.  Hope you are all having a good day!  I'm going to need to DVR the player's to watch it this weekend I think.

I could tell he'd been there at least once before because he was wearing a Masters golf shirt. I commented on that and he said he had gotten lucky in the Masters ticket lottery. I didn't even know they had a lottery. So while he was getting his blood drawn, I went to the Masters website and signed up for the 2025 ticket lottery, which doesn't actually happen until June-ish.

Arrived in Charlotte, checked in and headed to First Tee with my Garmin R10 in hand.  Warmed up with 8-irons, then started hitting 7-woods. After the 27th shot I looked at my phone for the R10 readout and it was blank. Huh? I was pretty sure it was fully charged. Tried to restart, no luck, so I finished the rest of the session without a monitor -- more 7ws, 3ws, the big dog, 6-i, 9-i, gap, 54-degree. Their large bucket was a REALLY large bucket plus the guy in the next stall left me about 25 of his balls, so I must have hit well over 100 balls. Contact was pretty good on the 26 measured shots; direction, not so much. That continued after the phone went blank. Best 8-iron distance was a 134-yard tug, followed by a 133 tug and a 131 push. Best 7w distance was a 162 push with 78 clubhead speed; I've only ever managed 81 mph with my driver, so that seems to suggest I'm making a little progress with clubhead speed. I felt like I caught some drivers pretty well, so would have been very interested to see those numbers.

Why did the phone tap out? After I got back to the car, I got the answer: It had overheated in the sun (temp at noon in Charlotte was 78). Once it cooled down, it works just fine, and it was fully charged the whole time.

Hard to describe, but I use my right arm more than my left.  I can actually putt pretty well with just my right hand, and I do that when warming up… trying not to break my right wrist.  Elbows are slightly flexed and left elbow is more flexed on the through stroke.  Shoulders don’t rock much; more of a piston motion with putter and head doesn’t release past hands.  

I can see that we will have some interesting discussions in Kingsmill!!

Because of nerve damage to the right hand, it is just along for the ride on putts. It is on the putter, ever so lightly, at most the right hand might give a modicum of stability.

You described my left hand (no nerve damage); just no control with it.  Can’t make putts left hand low, but can make putts using only my right hand.  It’s why I want to try reverse armlock.

Best laid plans dept., part infinity: Got out and hit balls in Charlotte all right, then returned to determine that this hotel lacks a fitness room. Either I have to scratch it off my list once the Fit For Golf test begins, or I'll have to bring my own equipment. Or get a membership to Planet Fitness or something where I can work out there on my road trips. For now, I've changed hotels for my next trip to Charlotte in April. Too bad, because I sleep well here, but I'm on the road too much to only work out when I'm at home.

I have nerve damage in the right hand too, but so far no detectable effects on my putting or other aspects of my golf game. Just don't ask me to draw blood or start an IV at work. For that my hand shakes like a leaf.

Honestly,  that doesn't sound that odd to me.   Right arm dominant stroke (Tiger is right arm dominant).  Not breaking wrists is something people try to do.  not everyone rocks their shoulders which makes it more arms with passive shoulders.  The piston motion is  probably more of an old school stroke kind of like Nicklaus.     I am guessing with the Kuchar style you are trying to get a little more stability and stroke control?

My stroke is left arm dominant with passive shoulders.   I don't focus on not bending the wrist but don't actively use them.   I move the putter back with left arm and then let it fall back through the stroke. 

Looking forward to all the discussions at Kingsmill.  I love talking about putting and understanding what people are trying to do but if the conversations aren't about golf that is fine too.

It's looking like it's going to be an ugly day weather wise here. I started my drive to lightning rolling in the sky and then ran into some torrential rain. It's settled down for now, but it's going to be a stormy day.

I will be creating part analysis presentations and working in the customer warranty system to provide responses to why parts were replaced, or vehicles repaired.

Looking forward to a mid 50's and maybe windy Saturday, as I have a round scheduled with our regular group, and it will be my round for the VCT tournament.

Morning All,

 

Stayed fever free yesterday which was a huge plus. Was still a little tired and not able to eat a whole lot of different foods. I think that might change today since I have woke up nauseous. And my stomach is singing the song Audrey II sang to Seymour in “Little Shop Of Horrors”. Was thinking maybe go try to get to the range but the wife dropped a bomb on that by reminding me that today is the day our shed that houses our mowing stuff and coolers is getting an uplift. Instead of tearing it down then building a new one, the fiscally responsible thing for us to do is not spend 6500 for a new shed. Instead we are spending close to 1200 to refurnish the one we have cause the structure is sound, it just looks rough. So that will be what my day consists of. Hope everyone has a good day.

Happy Friday spies! Got lots of storms and rain yesterday after noon and last night. Cooler today and this weekend but still in the 60’s. My youngest has a basketball tournament this weekend so watching the players will be tough but I’ll see what I can do.
