@Golfspy_TCB will there be a seperate thread for the current standings or will it be on top of each week? Just curious

Each week will have the week's leaderboard and scores as a separate thread (see the Season 2 Week 2 thread opened today for this week's scores).  In addition, I'll have another ongoing thread for the Season 2 MGS Forum Cup Points Race... I'll probably wait a week or two to post that.. but your best score each week (and if you claim the most net birdies or longest drive) nets you some points... so make sure you post a round every week!!!  I know others will (I'm looking at you @fozcycle and @Golf2Much and @richk9holes).  😉

Can you post 9 hole rounds or is it only for 18?  I don’t get a lot of 18 hole rounds in so just checking.

ALERT: post for last week, date of play was 4/9/2023.  Can't back date the post app that far, hoping @Golfspy_TCB can correct.

This was a testament to dedication.  There's no way most people would choose to suffer these conditions, though they were slightly better than I had expected.  See here for the forecast just before heading off to the course:

Screenshot_20230409-093928.png.9014a906725d6333030272e31a1c819a.png

Not bad, pretty consistent.  Not sure if 95% vs 96% vs 97% matters too much.  Total rainfall for the day was predicted at .9", mostly in the afternoon.  Tee time is 13:51.

I'm a bit stiff and it's gonna be wet, so I figure it's a +2 club kinda day.  I get to the range for some warm up and am happy to see that I'm mostly hitting straight, if not pushing it slightly, but only a few bananas.   First tee shot was good.  Not far, but in the middle.  Pretty happy about that.  Then the next 4 holes suck, bad.  Kept doing something funny and it took flight 45° to the right of my target line for the next many shots.  Ended up with a 10 on #1, which is by far the worst I've ever done.

By halfway down the second hole (it's fun, normally), I come to the conclusion that the whole course is a bog.  You must hit it clean to have any hope of getting anywhere.  Miss fat, get mud and water between the club and the ball on top of the loss of speed through the muck.  Hit it thin and you are most likely to bury it in the mud.  I'd say I lost 20 strokes due to these types of mishits.  On #7 (index 1), I again hit my tee shot to the middle.  My next two strokes got me a whopping distance of... 6ft.   On many tee shots my total distance was less than the carry, as it would plug, then bounce out a few inches back.  So, a good tee strike with my driver down a 45' drop for a total distance of 178 wasn't so bad in reality.

Putting was also terrible, but the greens were water parks.  Most balls would hydroplane about ¾ of the way, then die at twice the rate of normal.  Made for interesting putting.  Lines didn't hold as much as expected either.  At least we weren't playing the west side where greens don't drain nearly as much as on the east side, (except for West #13, which is a beast).  See the typical greens conditions for the day below.  Can you find my ball on #6?

After the 4th hole we found our stride and how to cope with the adverse conditions with it being very soggy and unsure footing.  I did go through three towels keeping equipment playable.  My clothing looks like I had just mucked out the pig pen, but did smell better than that.  All in all it wasn't too bad and still had fun. My normal poor play on this course should have been 55/65.  My playing partner @Eddy Dragonetti only beat me by one stroke on net, so pretty confident I can just chalk it up to bad weather.  We decided not to count this against our handicaps.  And, got the tee stuff right towards the end, so there's that.

Hi Lee, You can post two 9 hole rounds together as an 18 hole round.  You would just need to calculate your course handicap for each 9 played, and combine them for posting the 18 hole round net score.  🙂

Perfect. Thanks.  I need to recalc my handicap so I’ll keep working on that.  Not enough rounds recently.

Not sure if this is too late. I've been planning a trip to play the RTJ golf trail in Alabama and leaving Friday the 21st. I'll try to remember to post on time.
