I actually liked being humbled on the Old Waverly course, it was a beautifully dangerous venue… The linkish Mossy Point course was just as humbling but not quite the same esthetic of a venue. 
  While playing in your state on part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail; I was looking more like the Lewis&Clark Expedition than a golfer.  I am aware of the underlying theme of my lack of golfing ability coming to the forefront wherever I show up and attempt to show out. Evidently I am a glutton for punishment when it comes to golf courses.

Our annual March trip was to MO / OW last year - we really enjoyed both courses. The cabins on MO were great as well - only drawback is accessibility for everyone outside of the Southeast.

Yes, the RTJ courses go from very hard to hellaciously ridiculous

So true...our March guys trip is to Ross Bridge & Oxmoor Valley.  I've heard RB is a BEAST (especially if you play from the tips, which are 8000+ yards ).

Yeah 8k is too much. But Ross Bridge is fun and they just redid it as well. 
 

If you have a chance while down here, go play either Ballantrae or Highland Park. Both are great. Highland Park is short but a really fun course (120 years old downtown Bham) and Ballantrae is best bang for your buck around. Great greens and great layout.

We are playing Highland Park and the new short course at Oxmoor as well. Will check out Ballentrae - could be a good place to add on another round.

The only vetting process is no Richards allowed.  And I don't mean actually guys named Richard, just guys that "act like" a Richard if you get my gist.  The only other thing will be as I may have eluded to is that deposits will be needed right away to secure a spot.

I love all the excitement and discussion on here about last years event and more so on next years!   Which we are hoping and planning to be even better if not bigger.

Ballantrae is great. If you go after noon on a weekday it is like $50 with a cart I think.

I would be remiss however if I do not make an apology to our esteemed Forum colleague, Mr. @Yellow Ball who so graciously bestowed upon me at the Mid South Resort, the Teeless Driver that he "tested" and had noted my urging those coming who had been selected from the multitudes of those who applied, that they bring said Teeless Driver so that I might have a chance to see if the rhetoric in the advertising was as promising at it would seem.  Not only did he bring the Teeless he was selected to test, but formally transferred it to my possession.

  How he managed to drag it from Cali to NC I have no idea but it was my go-to big dog for a few months this year until my driver got back into play.  So thanks to you Yellow Ball

Bent Brook and Timberline are solid also. If you wanna drive an hour out and pay a good bit more but play a sick course, check out Farmlinks at Pursell Farms. It is awesome but they are proud of it.

Im with @easyputter French lick and there is a 3rd track "sultans run" that is every bit the other courses.

Glade Springs in WV has three tracks each one harder than the next. 

Finally, a return to Pinehurst to play other courses and NOT 36 holes would be great.

I can be at French Lick in two hours, If we go there I'd be happy to put together a bourbon excursion - the heart of Kentucky bourbon country is less than an hour away.

I'm in... and possibly my wife.  We are planning a trip to see friends in TN and GA, and I'll work around whatever dates are picked.  Could be my last trip back east (which is where this golfapalooza sounds like it will be).

@Brother Daveand I are up for another golf roadtrip.  Had a great time and enjoyed playing with everyone in Pinehurst.

The 36 hole day definitely took a toll on us.  

Although most of the guys wanted to play their own ball on the last trip, maybe an optional 9 hole Shamble or Scramble replay would be fun.

Would also be in favor of an optional Birdie or Skins pool.
