edingc
70 degree weather in November. Unreal. I assumed I was finished two weeks ago when it turned rainy and cold, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to get out one more time. A lot of the local courses have already closed for the year, but the "goat track" near me still had their flags in. Called and they said they were closed because their carts had been picked up for the year, but that the course was free to walk. I also had already cleaned my primary bag, so I grabbed my backup iron set and driving iron and away I went. Way too many leaves, greens hadn't been mowed in a long time, so I immediately just started playing a practice round throwing down a lot of balls. Must have hit 15-20 balls into some greens from various distances, driving iron practice from the tee, etc. Was a nice way to spend 90 minutes on a beautiful afternoon. Lost a good handful of balls in leaves but really don't care (and they were all shag bag quality anyway). Not sure if my winter workouts are already paying off, but I was a good 1/2-1 club longer than I remember with these irons (Maltby PTMs). I also opened up a can of worms by playing my backup set - they felt really nice and the distance control from the short irons was money. Over the winter I'm going to need to make a decision about what irons to play next year. dlow206, GolfSpy_SHARK, MaxEntropy and 4 others 7 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Well was able to finish my yard work Saturday and today is 70 and just a ridiculously nice week for November overall Dow as able to get to a local par 3 course with @B.Bostonand our kids. Holes range from 80-160ish here and was good to get swinging after over a month of not playing. Good contact overall and was happy with distance. Was bringing a lot right to left so was just off and only hit a few greens. +6 with 2 doubles 2 bogeys and 5 pars. Son played ok. At the age where he does and doesn’t want guidance feet placement was tough and overall his swing looks good but just missing good contact.l because he’s pulling his head out of it. Working on it, and has some good pokes. All in all the kids had fun and that’s all that matters. With no previous course experience, and a ton of leaves on the course I took it as a practice round. And a beautiful one at that! I shot a net -1, although it's with a grain of salt because I wasn't holding strict rules with some leaf drops, etc. I lipped out easily the most putts in one round ever, but I made a few solid putts as well. Really happy with my short game progress the last few months. Earlier in the summer I was leaving a ton of makeable putts short, so as frustrating as a ton of lip outs can be I'm happy that I was giving the hole a run. And thrilled to be golfing in a short sleeve shirt on November 7th!!! That's a course I have yet to venture out to. Always looks great from the highway. Any planes flying overhead while you played? Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
Having played Friday and Saturday I figured I wouldn't push it. But my wife said to me at 8:45 this morning, " aren't you going to play golf this morning?" Being the quick thinker that I am, yes dear I wasjust waiting for it toget a little warmer out. Still golf shorts and shirt weather. 74 degrees and sunny. You ever have one of those rounds where you played you butt off but didn't score like you should have. I shot 70 on Friday, 70 on Saturday, played much better today. All but one drive didn't find the fairway. Most drives were dead center and long for me (about 240 to 250). That was based on the GPS distances. Fifteen greens in regulation. Tied my personal best. One birdie. But I only shot a 72. It felt so much better than that. The problem was that the couse bikini waxed the greens this morning. Cut and double rolled. They had to be at a 13 or 14. There aren't any flat greens so a slight miss on a pin location with slope could go 6 feet past even if you only had enough speed to die at the hole. But it was a beautiful day on the course. edingc, MattF, Rickp and 11 others 14 Quote Driver, TSi 1 S Flex 3 wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 5 wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 7 Wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 5 Hybrid King Tec MMT R Flex Irons, Tour UST Recoil 95 R Flex (6 - Gap) Wedges, Snakebite KBS Hi- Rev2.0 54* & 60* Agera 35" Ultralight 14-way Cart Bag
Crowev01
So for the last three days, I have had the opportunity to break par for the first time and have finished at even. I have been one under going into the last hole, one over going in, and even par is my personal best, but it almost feels like so many silly little errors holding back the red numbers. It will happen, just have to stay in it. It's sad to be playing great golf and wanting to be a little better. I'm very happy with the progress, these are the reasons I love this game... cksurfdude, MattF, MaxEntropy and 6 others 8 1 Quote Titleist 975J Callaway Hawkeye 3 Wood Ben Hogan CFT Hybrid, Apex Plus Irons Cleveland 588 Wedges Scotty Newport 2 Mid Slant Pro Platinum
Popular Post russtopherb
Played the executive course at Swansea Country Club with my son today. I hadn’t hit a ball in a few weeks and it showed. Still had a great time out there even though I lost 6 stinking balls. Six!!! Ball flight was great but everything was just off to the right. 2 lost to woods, 2 to the water, 2 to leaves. My son played a steady game and beat me by 1, the bugger. Couldn’t be prouder of him. HardcoreLooper
It was a beautiful day down here in RVA as well, and we took advantage of it by playing with an old buddy of mine at the Donald Ross-designed Lakeside Park Club, a course I love, but one that absolutely gives me fits. Playing in shorts with the leaves changing is a real treat. I didn't take a ton of pictures, because it was more fun to just stay in the moment, hit golf shots and have fun with my buddy and my daughter. This was also the first time I could apply DECADE / Lowest Score Wins theories to a "real" golf course, so I hit the driver virtually everywhere. Shot a 79 with 34 putts. I literally could not have shot a higher score. A couple of three putts and an OB tee shot - all easily tidied up with one better swing and a little better knowledge of the greens. So much fun. And my daughter had a blast getting to play a different course. I remember it also, nearly peed my pants when he said it.Some people didn’t care for McCord’s humor especially the Masters Elite.Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Tom the Golf Nut, cksurfdude and sirchunksalot 3 Quote Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list
PMookie
81 (40/41). Thirty four putts! Ugh. My speed is AWFUL. First full round trying out my new swing from my lesson. It’s going to really be a good change for me, especially because my back isn’t hurting or tight right now! This is the first time in a LONG time where I feel I could play two days in-a-row, no problem. Popular Post cnosil
Driving was a little off and putting was way off. 43/40:83. 10 fairways, 11 greens, 2 near greens, 38 putts with 5 3 putts. Had 4 of the 3 putts within the first 6 holes including a 3 putt from 5 feet. Hit a lot of fades off the tee that were bigger than normal dispersion. With a couple just requiring pitch outs. Second round with the Honma irons and I am really enjoying them. Swing still results in more toe strikes than I want but the clubs are forgiving enough that I don’t lose much distance. juspoole
Great all around round the other day at a nice public course in the area - Prairie View Golf Club. Didn't keep all fairway/greens/putting stats, but really had most of my game in control. Green reading and putting was probably the biggest let down, but still was fair. Birdied all four par 5's and this was the first time in a long time I can say that I played aggressively and went for them in two each time. I was over the green on the first and on the green with fairly good looks at eagle for the other three par 5's. Driver was very good except for one errant drive that I got away with and stayed in bounds. Approach shots were better than average, but still room for improvement. My scrambling really helped me to stay in the round with many great chips where I was shortsided. Shot a 74 from the Gold tees and course rating is 73.1, so very happy with this round. Tarheelvolvo
Was fortunate enough to play a very nice private course in Central VA today - Country Club of Virginia James River Course. This is the same course the Champions Tour played on about a month ago and it was a Volunteer Tournament - I was a random lucky winner this year. It was a Team Best-Ball Shambles style tournament where we took the best drive of the group off the tee and then we all played our shots to the hole. Driver started very hot and team took my drive on 7 of the first 8 holes - I contribute this to my new Ping G410 I recently purchased, so was quite pleased - however my irons game, normally my strong suit, was a mess...couldn't hit anything higher than a PW worth a lick. Thankfully, my wedges, normally the worst part of my game, were oddly on fire and chipped about 8 hits within 5ft to score us some team birdies. By the back half, the driver started to wane and my old bad habits crept in again. Few slices off the time, or just some bad tops had me a little frustrated. Wedge game stuck with me the whole round though. Thankfully the driver came back to me for the last two holes and was able to score us two more birdies with just my shots! Driver, Wedge, Putt makes this an easy game Team shot a respectable 74, which put us in 5h place out of 12 teams. Out of the money, but a great day and simply amazing weather for early Nov - perfectly sunny, not a cloud in the sky, and high of 74, just gorgeous. MattF
Got out again this morning and played Okay. 46/41 87 and my back survived two days in a row. I'm not talking about yesterday because it was really bad, but any rounds played now in NEO are classified as practice rounds. cksurfdude, cnosil, CarlH and 6 others 9 Quote In the bag: Driver: Darkspeed X 9° UST Mamiya LIN-Q M40X Blue 7F4 Fairway: Apex UW 19° & 21° Project X HZRDUS Smoke RDX Black 5.5 Irons: JPX 923 HMP 5-PW UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Wedges: T-22 Denim Copper 48°, 52° & 56° UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Putter Sycamore 005 Wide Blade Bag: Fairway 14 stand bag Balls: Chrome Tour Cart: CaddyLite ONE Ver. 8 God Bless America, God save the King, God defend New Zealand and thank Christ for Australia!
