Not my best round but solid for not having played for a couple weeks. 

From a strokes gained perspective, it was definitely a downer round. Going again on Sunday to see if I can do better.

Two completely different nines today. We started on the back side. My head wasn’t into golf. It definitely showed. I shot 41 with two doubles, a bogey and one birdie. On that side four fairways, three greens and sixteen putts. One of the guys in our bet gave me crap before the turn and it woke me up. Back side: two under and hit seven greens with fourteen putts. A clean card on the back. With all the presses in the bets won big! They should never poke the bear! Blue tees rating 69.1 and slope was 123.

We were a few days into the greens being aerated and top dressed.  Needless to say, it took away the strength of my game:  chipping and putting.  

 

On the plus side:  33% greens in regulation which is about 2X more than I typically have.  Less than half of my approach shots (44%) were short, again a good number for me.  

The downside:  50% fairways hit (down from my normal 75%), three of the missed shots yielding penalty strokes.  Two other fairway metal shots which also ended up in the water or penalty areas.  The one up and down was also a low for me.  I had a poor day out of the sand traps as well.

I need to work on the necessary adjustments needed for playing with aerated and top-dressed greens.  I figure we'll have at least three or four more aeration events over the summer as they try and save our greens.  So, I better get used to it!

Alright, so this is a weird one for me.  Decided to spend the hour-ish I had before the round started doing some chipping work, and forego my typical small bucket of balls.  My thinking was that if I could get my rhythm's good to go with the chips and pitches, that rhythm would translate to my other swings. 

Cut to the first tee, where I promptly push-slice my drive 100 yards right, settling nicely behind all the trees on the course.  Sigh. 

Took a few holes, but finally got driver working (actually drove the ball pretty well after that, all things considered).  My chipping around the green continues to be the thing that saves my rounds - I had 10 1-putts, with a total of 50-feet of putts made in those 10 holes (had a 10' and an 8' putt, everything else was 6' and in), and no 3-putts, and ended up posting a +10.  

Considering I started +5 through the first 4 holes, I'll definitely take it.

Anyway, the DF3 continues its stellar breaking in period - I put some genuinely great rolls on some long putts that scared the hole on multiple holes, and managed to make all the come-backers, so speed control is getting dialed in.  

The BAD news is, I think this is the last chance I'll have to get out until I leave for the Outing, which means...there's about 2 weeks for my game to go sideways, with no way for me to find out until I tee it up at Royal New Kent, lol. 

Apologies for not having any pictures this week - was more focused on trying to get the V5 (ShotScope) watch working during the round - it missed a TON of shots throughout the round, and I only figured out that if I put the tag near (or on) the watch, it would recognize it easily.  You're not supposed to have to do that, but I was happy to have it recognize the tag at all, and it honestly wasn't that big of a deal, but having to go back in and edit the round after the fact is never my favorite thing.  Hopefully next time out it works a lot seamlessly. 

I know we don't really keep track of it anymore, but one actual birdie, three total net birdies, and a long drive of 290-ish (the second shot was one that the watch missed, but I remember thinking "dag, that's a 290 drive!" right before topping my 3-wood another 120 yards...sigh.

Finally broke 90 for the first time since starting back playing golf a few months ago. Had a good round. Still making a ton of mistakes. Driver was bad today.

The Scotty Cameron Del Mar kept me below 30 putts, with 29, so it may be a keeper for the season. Overall, pretty happy with today but if I had to pick a nit, my wedges were just okay.

This week was a little more interesting because it was both a practice and testing round. This upcoming week, I will be playing in a Men's League Tournament, and this front nine of the 18 out here in Snowflake has always been a struggle for me. So, with that being said, I decided to take the chance to practice my tee shots and the locations I want to hit. The scores I shot show that I can be ready for this tough front nine if I play smart!

The other part was testing a couple of new balls on which I got my hands. These were the Callaway Tour ('24) and the Vice Pro Plus ('24). This is the first round I have ever played with, so I cannot definitively say which is better. However, I would say that the Vice Pro Plus tended to spin a little better, and on the same tee shot on hole five, it stayed straighter and went longer. These items alone suggest I should try it for longer this coming week was not

Not the hottest round I have ever played. I know I need to work more on my tee s, but other than that, I think I should do well in the upcoming tournament!

I was fighting a balky back for most of the round although I did make some good shots. My tee shots put me in difficult positions though. I was in the olive trees a couple of times - pretty much equals a one stroke penalty. I found the sand, or should I say concrete as well. Our bunkers need a little love. I did putt well, keeping the dreaded three-putt off the card. Looking forward to next week when I'll play Campestre Tijuana, Real del Mar, and Bajamar. Should be posting some interesting scores as I haven't played the first two courses. Bajamar is always a challenge. Stay tuned.

Funny you say that, as I was very hung over, ha ha. I have one or two other rounds that bad recently. However, I caught some really bad breaks yesterday. Twice I had a ball stuck in the lip of a bunker (course was extremely soft from all the rain). I also had a bad day chipping.
