What/How Did You Practice Today?

null

Recommended Posts

Callaway delivered super fast on a replacement shaft. Was able to get to the range today and test my driver again.

first, though, the drills I was working on was low point, arc height and  face strike with my 4i. It’s harder than AY makes it look. I think his strike plan will really help me and then focus more on the accuracy in pan.

then tried different tee heights for driver and tried some speed work. Posted is the fastest speed l got with a ball (some dry swings were 116). Contact not great but stayed straight and went far. Overall my dispersion was a little more right than my stock swing but not too bad.

Good session today! I’ve been working on re-dialing in distances as I’ve noticed a change in the last month or so on the course. This was the 4th or 5th time I’ve noted the distances and I’m starting to feel confident in those numbers again finally!

Today I spent 45 minutes on the range hitting my even irons and noting the distances. Followed that with 25 minutes on the putting green and 20 minutes on the chipping green.

With only 3 golfing days until the start of my member/guest tournament next week I feel pretty solid but need to work to solidify some stuff in the chipping/pitching game as well as with my woods. Back to the grind tomorrow!

Hit a medium bucket at the range today, just using my 50° and 9iron while trying to work out the kinks.  Didn't work and may actually be worse.  I need outside help but just don't have the available time to get a lesson in the immediate future.

There’s online lesson options that can be a live lesson over something like zoom or the typical send a video in and get feedback from the coach and then work on what they give you. Both can be done from the home setup. Doesn’t take anymore than than what you spend hitting balls at home anyways

if You still think it’s a time issue then use the beginner series YouTube videos from Chris Ryan and spend weeks working on the fundamentals and the takeaway video including just hitting balls from the takeaway position and then move on to the backswing video and do the same.

Or use athletic motion golf YouTube again for how to grip, perfect takeaway, backswing and downswing, spending weeks on each similar to above.

Or get one of the memberships whether the free one or upgraded ones for amg and go thru their drills and plan

Did the hardest practice for myself this weekend, and didn't practice at all.

I actually rested my elbow for once when it was sore instead of just ignoring it and playing anyway. I've got a bad habit of just pushing through the pain when it's hurting, but I'm trying to develop better habits of listening to my body when it's sore, so I didn't play or go to the range at all, and it's been tough.

At least Diablo 4 and a bottle of bourbon has been a decent distraction.

Hit just a small bucket today. Working on hip turns. I've been a timing player for a while, and it's on or off. It could be called the early extension, and it causes some fats and thins. A couple things I worked on were making sure, when my arms are fully extended, it's about 4 feet from my low point. Another thing that helps me is the feel of my left shoulder (since I'm a lefty), turning down toward the ball on my downswing. I hit a very high ball, and have for 30 years. By being able to not stand up too soon, I should be able to bring the ball flight a little lower.

When my wife asked if I wanted to leave Maine and move to where she grew up, I couldn't say no to Pinehurst, NC. I honestly don't spend much money on golf equipment, but I'm constantly reading reviews in case I ever get ready to buy

I swing left handed and have been the State of Maine Left Hander's champion since 1997, the last year they held the tournament. I'm currently a 7.1 handicap. Trying to get lower, but my gut gets in the way.

Practiced distance control on short (3' to 6') putts indoors on my PuttOUT matt today. Although I can get the ball rolling on my intended line and am good at reading the direction of the break, I am not putting well so far this year, due to poor speed control on putts of all lengths.  According to Scott Fawcett "Speed is KIng" which I buy into completely, so speed will be the focus of my putting practice.

Sat down and compiled all the rounds that hadn't been inserted in my Bushnell, so I could look at the statistics on their app and see where improvement can be made. Pretty obvious hitting more than 30% gir and 65% fw would help my scores significantly.

Screenshot_20230604_192420_BushnellGolf2.jpg.34e260c4ac68be5c0a17422a4882a9b9.jpg

Also got an idea of putting, I've been under my average for all the golf I've played since adding the counterweight in the grip.

Today I worked on chilling and bunker shots for about 45 mins, then hit a large bucket, focusing on irons then testing a few different driver shafts.  It was quite productive.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

I’m playing in a 9 hole club event tomorrow which on the surface would be unremarkable.  However, a week ago today was doing long tosses with a football with my grandson.  Woke up the next day with an injury around T7 that I haven’t had in several years, where the rib head impinges on the nerve root.  The kind where can’t take a deep breath, cough or sneeze, not to mention very restricted movement.

Took my grandson to the driving range on Wed and I took 1 wedge.  I took about 5 1/2 swings, and just couldn’t complete a swing.  Gradually started feeling better on Friday, so Sat hit about 10 3/4 swing and 5 full with the wedge, 6 full swings each with 8i, 6i, 4h.  Made good contact.  Then about 10-12 with the driver, which distance was good but erratic dispersion.

Did the same today as yesterday but with a few more with each club.  Good overall contact and driver was much better.  Also worked on baby pitches around the green with my 58*, then putted.  Still have some subtle discomfort but it’s been getting better.  Will do another short practice tomorrow morning, rest, lunch, then the event in the afternoon, but feeling pretty good now,

First range day in a while as I had been on vacation so was doing a lot more playing (and playing poorly) than practice. Sorted some stuff out, we will see if it sticks on course.

Not really a drill person (probably to my detriment) but went back to one my coach gave me a few years back. Placed the empty range bucket just outside and forward of the ball (like within an inch or so). When I start to get too in-to-out this gets me back to neutral or a little out-to-in. I have really been trying to change my default shot to a fade, progress has been intermittent and slow but this drill helped me a lot today.

Went to the range and practice green at NKGC today. On the range, worked on hitting wedge shots with my 54*, and full shots with my 7i, H27 and driver.  Short game work included the following:

  1. Practice bunker work
  2. One chip each to three different holes and putting out
  3. Distance control practice with my putter

Productive session overall.

Been hitting the ball really well, focusing a lot on footwork at setup to keep the club from coming too far inside on the takeaway... swing path everything felt great with the driver but was hitting a bigger draw, or fade/flare, than i've been over the past couple of weeks.. realized after a tough range session that my thumb was a bit more raw than normal.. my right thumb had found its way right down the shaft rather than overlapping and pointing more towards my front left foot.... i'm betting if i go hit about 15-20 balls after work, and watch my thumb position, my ball flight is going to straighten back out and i won't be as "flippy" with the club head. Small adjustments/watchouts

Today I worked on my grip I’ve been reading a book Ben hogans five lessons so all I did was strengthen my bottom hand a little by rotating my thumb over I use to put it straight in line with the club and wow did it do wonders I’m going to keep working on the grip but I can’t wait to get farther in this book

So today practiced with gap 7 4 irons and driver and Hit'm all well unusual for me anyway, with driver took a inch off the grip and WOW launch monitor tells me a dozen shots straight so quit while ahead yeah. Let's see tomorrow if it's a one day wonder lol 🫣

I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

Working on chipping today  trying “high hand” like for putting but doesn’t really work for the wedge unless pin is cut close to the edge and short side with more heavy fringe than green to work with and putter / hybrid/ iron is not an option   Require delicate touch like in putting and I’m using the toe of the wedge to mini flop or pop gently close to the hole   Not a wedge chip shot I thought I had to use but now the grass around the green is lush and thick and I been so good with my approach shot if I miss a green I have something like 20-30 feet chip. So really short chip length and short sided this would be the chip shot to learn

I scrolled across a video yesterday morning talking about the same thing, and like you, I also run my thumb down the center of the shaft. I was curious how much it'd change so I decided to go hit a few last night. I pointed it to 11 o'clock (lefty) and for those few holes I went through, it seemed to help tremendously. We will see if it continues on that same path.

Alternate between play and practice daily

today practice and review my putting and wedge play

extremely confident with my putter now. Wedge game needed to be more consistent

Went out to practice from different lies/stances and shortest  chips distance possible at 5 feet to more common distance chip shots

Lots of thoughts involved in wedge play and can be overwhelming with style and techniques

had to narrow down for me if I want cut/draw the chip and how I grip the club with my left hand

generally speaking the stronger my left hand hold the farther away the chipping distance   Another AHa moment

Rough work week so other than playing 9 Tuesday haven't been able to touch a club.  Did finally hit some balls into the net today - that is often helpful for me as I focus on fundamentals and making solid contact with little regard for distance.   Very pleased with my contact - I hit 8/9 greens on Tuesday after hitting it very solidly the week before - I hit 11 greens that day - ran out of the steam at the end of the round (a very hot Sunday afternoon after preaching two services and teaching a Bible Study - the 81 doesn't come close to the way I hit the ball and played.)

I should be able to chip and putt before church tomorrow.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Hit the range today to keep grooving new swing and started talking to the LGS onsite. One thing lead to another and I ended up testing my current driver setup (~280-285yds) against the G430 (~285-290yds) and the Callaway Paradym triple diamond (~312-315yds)

So that’s the story of how I started saving for a new driver…🤣

It has been well documented here how much I love the Paradym TD. The thing is truly a beast. So freaking good. I would love to put it up against my G430 LST. I am not sure there would be too much of a difference, but it is something I would be curious about!
