@B.Boston I was able to give it one more go today although the back ate me alive!

Awesome that you got out again! My second attempt at this challenge only ended up being nine holes.

Did you try to do anything differently based on your first go around?

84 is nothing to sneeze at! This is a tough challenge, much tougher than irons only, in my opinion.
I plan to play the front tees tomorrow, and if I drive the ball like today there's little chance I'm beating my 81 from Tuesday.

It was really strange being on the forward tees. You see the course in a different light and it makes you learn more of what angles can help you succeed when you have your full bag.

On the longer Par 3's I actually took a wedge off the tee to give me a good angle into the green to make the chip easier rather than smash a GW there.  That I think worked a lot better.  80% of my 2 putts lipped out or stopped 2 inches around the whole.

The part that didn't work better was trying to do a bump and run driving iron on a few of the par 5s.  I would have been better using wedges and just laying up and putting it in a good spot.

Oh man, that changes everything. 😂 And glad I asked, I had used the PW twice in my 4 hole round yesterday. 😬

It’s gonna be tough to commit to that for me ... three of the par 3s at my home course are over a marsh and depending on where the tees are tmrw, it’s usually 140+ to a landing spot. The other three in our Sunday 4some likely will be annoyed if I play a tee fwd tmrw, for we do both a game of Wolf and a $5 a-side match play as well. I’ll very likely at a minimum get passed over by the Wolf at the par 3s. 😂

Hmm 🤔 and now that I think about it, shouldn’t I help out my fellow #teamONElength player in @daviddvm, by going against @edingc??? If I lose to you, that’ll only help you extend your lead. Whereas with Cody, it’ll help him, but hopefully not to the point that he’s ahead of David.

Think I’ll deloft the hybrid 2° and try getting a couple 1 quarter swings in at the range with it tomorrow for those par 3s. 😏

LOL! They can be a tough crowd! 😆

It is likely that I’ll go full bag tmrw. The 2nd hole is a par 3 with a marsh clearing and after I play my first shot, I’ll try to see what a hybrid would look like into it. 😳 If the greens are wet and soft, I may get lucky and have it stick.

I really needed my pw today.

There is no rush like hitting you approach wedge, 48 degrees for 130 yards over water, and hoping that you hit hard enough to get over. My AW high end is 110, I made it over the water, barely.

I missed my PW and GW during my round as the gap comes in at 49° and I figured it is the same loft as a standard PW. My top end for my sand wedge is 75 yards and I had a par 3 that was playing 128. Thought I'd just go SW, SW. I did, but the first one was skulled and went 95. I really need a 50 or a 52. Delhi is all good with a new set of wedges, just wants me to go try them out when they're not so crowded.

There were a few shots I tried playing for a low ropey draw with the GW that ended up being “lay ups”. Would not have worked for you in that scenario. Haha

Great review kid! If you had to pick one would you go with the chrome or black finish?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’d probably go with the chrome. While the black is very nice, the chrome is wearing much more evenly.

Yea definitely think I’ll be starting out the year this way (definitely take the driver out of the bag). 3W seems consistent but also didn’t get that until midway through the year. We will see.

Hell, the way I played today, the driver should’ve never been given a spot in the bag.

Going through these weekly challenges curious what Everyone thinks the most critical club in their bag is Minus the putter of cours (especially the testers with new clubs was it different than something in the old set).

i think mine would have to be either my 2H or 8 iron. Funny what these evolutions do and make you see what is your money clubs.

That’s a really good question. I’d be happy with a 3H, 8 iron, 50°, and putter. Next would probably be my 58°. After that, every other shot I need *could* be produced by one of those clubs. This week showed me how much I still need my irons.

I've been caught up in real life stuff the last few days ( my daughters 13th birthday party and work) also got Covid 19 tested and I'm negative thank goodness. So trying to catch up on thread and post my round from Thursday.

As I posted previously this was the second consecutive round using the same ball with no penalties and the first round every at Moody Gardens Golf Course without losing a ball. But the round could have been better if I were to perfect a 1/2 and 3/4 shot with a hybrid, something I did not do well.

Played the Gold Tees at Moody Gardens slope/course 69.3/123. Water on every hole and a cooling seabreeze that made the day in the heat bearable.

First off and most importantly, it's good to hear your test came back negative.

That's a gorgeous course and a really great round playing this challenge. Those partial hybrids are rough, my shots all tended to go left...way left. Did you see any tendencies like that with them?

I certainly had that tendency with the hybrids, especially on the partial swings. If I had to pinpoint a cause, I would say we were decelerating through impact, causing us to shut the face down to the left.

My tendency with the partial swing hybrid were worm burners and not very pretty lol. Here is an example:

image.png.28ec50a86215e47d84ef6e0350658d0c.png

I was fortunate to par this hole because I holed the putt from off the fringe. This hole was playing directly into a 12 mph wind.

Glad to hear your test was negative.

Dang I’m jealous! That looks like one beautiful course!

I certainly had that tendency with the hybrids, especially on the partial swings. If I had to pinpoint a cause, I would say we were decelerating through impact, causing us to shut the face down to the left.

Galveston Island has two gorgeous, immaculate, and challenging courses that I am privileged to play often, Moody Gardens and Galveston Country Club.

As far as the test was concerned I was not feeling sick, I needed to get tested as one of our employees tested positive and I was exposed a week ago. Waiting for the result was nerve racking for sure. Thanks for the well wishes.

Something about palm trees just make a golf course, looks amazing. Nice round!

Glad the test came back negative. We have had a few of the janitorial staff folks test positive and it’s a mad scramble to track who they were in context with/where they were cleaning....never a good situation

i think mine would have to be either my 2H or 8 iron. Funny what these evolutions do and make you see what is your money clubs.

My 3H is so versatile off the tee, from the rough and for long chips. I have a 2 iron that I bought not long before last year's CCC and I love that club but I just can't find space for it in the bag because of that brilliant hybrid.

For me it's the Cobra SpeedZone 3 wood! I rarely hit my old 3 wood because I was just as erratic with it as my driver. I try to pull the Cobra 3-wood every chance I can and the results have been long & accurate, whether from the tee or the deck.3woodfacelowres.jpeg.cce3bdf1e6251d85bcb3f323a4fa1e97.jpeg

Love it. Nice to have something work better than the driver. Why do you think it’s more accurate? Overall just Just fits better or is it something more mechanical with your swing?

Hybrids have come a long way for sure. Remember when I couldn’t even hit them!  They are so versatile and are just so forgiving (mine anyway) it’s going to be tough to replace that one.

*edit- seems like the CCC testers initially were indifferent with the hybrids overall, just early reviews not enough information. After this last week being able to use them and the woods/driver with the wedges only any different thoughts now?
