High launch shaft for 5 wood

Murray06

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Shafts are not only a minefield but also my weakest knowledge point with equipment so looking for help.

What would you suggest for a 5 wood with the aim of achieving a mid to high ball flight.

Driver swing speed on average 100/101

Shafts currently using in signature. Got fitted for the driver and matched the woods, foolishly perhaps but had no other shafts to try.

thanks

Rogue Black would be one I might look at first.

Focus more on the loft of the head than the shaft to get the launch you want. The shaft only helps marginally with launch angle.

While the head is important, there won't be as much variance in 5 wood lofts.  A shaft can make a big difference here in launch.

To @Murray06  The Helium Black 4 should work well with that

I didn't see any reason the OP should be restricted to a 5w. Since the loft is the important factor in getting a FW that launches properly for his swing and fills the distance that it needs to fill, it could be a 4w, 5w, 7w or 9w that fits the situation best. They're all just FWs with lofts stamped on them these days anyway.

I have the Atmos TS Red 70X in my 4wd.  Love that shaft and highly recommend going to a fitter and testing it out if possible.  Have had the Atmos in the bag for 3 years and I don't see it coming out anytime soon.  I moved to the ventus blue in my driver as I thought the Atmos Red TS 6x in my Driver put the ball too high in the air, FWIW.

I misinterpreted the point of your answer.   I definitely agree a 7w or 9w will obviously deliver more loft. I thought you were saying that a different head of 5 wood would affect the launch more than a shaft.

I was answering in the thought he is intent on sticking with a 5 wood.  That the model of 5 wood won't matter as much as the shaft if that is the case.

I've got a slower swing speed than @Murray06, but can attest to the Helium shaft in my 5 wood. Mine is the F2 49g shaft and it is definitely high launch Love everything about my King F-9 5wood.

No worries. I just see lots of folks attempting to get a decent launch difference by switching shafts and it just doesn't happen. Loft will give a much more substantial change.

Cheers!

One of the biggest misperceptions in golf equipment along with thinking a shaft by itself is going to drastically change spin
