It was a chilly one... yes, that is an icicle on the flag stick - they run the sprinkler to get rid of the frost...

Dont' get too impressed, it was a 88 yard down hill par 3.  Hit it to about 15 feet and made the putt.  Putter was the only good thing going today.

Don't downplay that... that is a harder distance for me than full mid iron shots!  a 2 on the card is a 2 on the card 🙂

Haha yes, and I guess it isn’t the score so much as how I got there.  I summarized elsewhere that I had the best and longest drives ever for me, as well as long clubs.  It was very windy, around 15-18 mph with frequent higher gusts.  My great setup shots left me with IDK exactly, 8-9 short 2/3 swing wedge shots that I love, and practice all the time.  And my first shots on the range warming up.  I just did poorly executing and mostly short of the green.  Not an excuse, just an explanation that I didn’t manage the shots properly.

Horrible round today, 46* at tee time warmed up to 66*.  Shot 49/46:95 less CH 14 = 81 versus Par 72 = +9 Ugh! With 71% FIR 22% GIR and 39 putts.  Dry eye syndrome set in again and I had a difficult time focusing on the back of the ball, especially putting. Only 3 net birdies with long drive of 197.
p.s. I got cortisone shots in my knees yesterday afternoon so I was a bit wobbly today.

It is a very well-maintained Municipal course! But it is heavily booked, you have to call over a week in advance to get a morning tee time. It is my home course and I play in the monthly handicap association tournaments. There is a course flyover that is really good on the website under course info and rates.

I will check out the flyover... I impressed with many of the muni's around South Texas... looks like this one is high on that list.  Can't wait to get a chance to play it.

I WILL BE ABLE TO POST A ROUND THIS WEEK!

Looks like courses are closing down in terms of full yardages end of the month so I have this and likely next week and then I would say I am out... and I will start doing more Top Tracer Challenges and so on.

Bad news is this course that we are playing... well I had like a 93 there last time. Just brutal... so good vibes this time!

This week was awesome, first game in pouring rain to start for holes 1 - 3, overcast with drizzle at times for holes 4 - 8, and a return to driving rain for 9 on Wednesday.  Friday is the back 9 under clear skies and drying conditions the whole round.

Screenshot_20221021-195224_SwingU.jpg.8a28af53069b1df5a9e7d9f0d93d7473.jpg Screenshot_20221021-195234_SwingU.jpg.e7f6e85f8b9e03a0f01284e076bb9833.jpg

So 46+49= 95 raw with 26 hc gives net -3
Same Course and unchanged for drive though longest was today's 166 on the 8th hole.

Screenshot_20220929-220136_SwingU.jpg.657c7f923ac0e4eb4dd1b99ba6edc099.jpg Screenshot_20220929-215903_SwingU.jpg.61d1830637c7a40131c35149cc00933b.jpg

Handicap is unchanged as I play more rounds than I am submitting for the Tour competition and it averages out.

Suggestion:  instead of trying to include us Northern Warriors in head-to-head competition with the Southern Sticks, we should have separate Tour venues until we are all back to playing on course.
So if someone is traveling and plays a round they can submit on the Course Tour that week.
If someone is playing rounds on a simulator they would submit on the Simulator Tour that week.
If someone is a Top-Golf fiend and smokes the ball into the high scoring targets between bumper pool and darts games then they would submit on the Stadium Tour that week.
There could also be a Putting Tour with specific distances for specific numbers of shots tabulated and submitted that week regardless of putting surface chosen just like courses are fundamentally different from each other.

Hoping I can get another go at it this week end but here is my result from today

Off the whites with some friends today so Playing Handicap is 2

Shot a 74 so 72 net

3 birdies (2 natural, 1 net)

Long drive was 313. Considering my driving was total 💩 today, this made me happy.

Was travelling last week so didn't get a chance to  enter any of my scores and struggling to get a round in this week.

Played 14 holes on Tuesday but heavy rain on Thursday and I'm sitting at home at 9:45 waiting for notification that the fog clears for my 10:23 tee off.

Tied my personal best today at 11 over.  Left my par putt 1" short on #18 or I would have set a new best.

Course handicap is a 16 for a net 66 which is -5.

Got out to again to Raspberry Ridge to finish my round for the week - played much better on the second 9.

Course handicap is 15, shot an 82 on a par 68 so net -1.
Longest drive was 246 (course doesn’t really lend itself to long drives).
6 net birdies (all of which were natural pars).

Overall not a bad showing, but I don’t feel like I’m playing as well as I was earlier in the summer.

Columbia Point GC
Course Handicap = 4
Score = 79    net 75
One natural birdie and 3 net birdies

A double on the par 5 #13 hurt.  In the bunker behind the green in 3 shots, but the rain all night and the irrigation system still running all night along with no sand in the bunker and I shot my ball over the green some 30 yards; pitched back on the green; missed the 8 foot putt that broke 2 feet.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I was finally able to get out for 18 holes today (it has been a long week at work!!).

It was also my first real test for the "Otto Phlex" shaft I had installed on Friday.  Played with my regular Sunday group, and the big story of the day was witnessing a Hole in One.  One of my playing partners - 74 years old, made his first ever Hole in One on the Par 3 11th hole - 165 yards... and we were able to watch it disappear into the hole.  Pretty exciting to witness it, I can't even imagine being the one who hit the shot (still waiting for my first).  +

IMG_20221023_135101.jpg

The other big story of today's round for me was the performance of the TSi3 fitted with the Graffaloy ProLaunch Blue shaft in Ladies Flex.  Wow.  I was equal or farther to my familiar positions all day, and was equal to or farther than my whole group - which is abnormal for me.  I had several drives that ended in the 270+ range, and though wind aided... I really timed my swing well on the 18th Par 5, and hit the longest drive I have hit in the past 2 years... by far.  I ended up 321 yards, and had 205 into the green from the middle of the fairway.  That one drive alone was enough to convince me to consider the O-PH shaft for my day in/day out gamer, let alone all the other drives of the day which were 10-20 yards farther than normal.  This shaft really impressed me today...   The one mis-hit I had cost me a double, as I over cooked my drive into the left water guarding the fairway.  It was a well struck drive, I just pulled it a bit left, and it had draw spin so I took one bounce and it kicked left into the water.  My biggest concern with this flexible shaft was leaving everything right... but that is definitely not the case.  LOVE the ball flight and if anything - a shot I give up on will go left.  I can live with that.  Especially on my home course that has a lot of OB trouble on the right.

As for my scoring today...

  • Course: Willow Fork CC
  • Par 72
  • Course Handicap: 4
  • Gross Score: 38/38 = 76
  • Net Score: 72 (even)
  • Net Birdies or Better: 2 natural birdies (both on pop holes... so net eagles) and 2 net birdies = 4 total
  • Longest drive: 321 Yards (never thought I would be posting that number in a million years)
