Flightscope Progression Review

 

Introduction

Let me start by thanking MyGolfSpy and Flightscope for this absolutely amazing opportunity. To say I’m excited is a massive understatement. I have don’t a few reviews over the years and I’m not afraid to admit it, this one is huge for me. I have always wanted a Launch Monitor/Simulator but have never pulled the trigger. 
 

About Me:

My name is Mark Kramer. I live in North Central Iowa. I have been married for just over 8 years to a wonderful woman and have a beautiful daughter that will be graduating college in 2024. 

I am almost a year into being a staff member here and couldn’t be happier helping out the best forum on the net. 
 

Ad I said I’m so pumped to be involved in this review. Since my golf season ends around the end of September and doesn’t start again until April, I’m hoping that this will help me stay in a groove. 
 

My game is currently at its best it’s ever been. I don’t carry an official handicap but if I did I’m sure it would be close to scratch. 
 

While my testing will be exclusively indoors, I am going to get some trackman time as well as any other LM I can find around here for comparisons. 
 

To start this review I will be using a hitting mat for the Mevo. As we get closer to the Mevo plus portion, I am going full Simulator build with a screen, projector, cage, and mat.

First Impressions:

 

So impressed that Flightscope got these out to us so quickly.   
 

Im gonna break first impressions down into a couple categories. This way I can keep the updates coming as we go. 
 

First off the box was so tiny, I thought how can the mevo be in there. 

When I opened the box I swear I heard angels singing. 

The Flightscope box itself is a really nice touch. The box has a magnetic closure making it super easy to open and close. 
Inside the box was the Mevo, metallic Dots, charging cable, instructions, and a little pouch to keep the Mevo in.   

All in all this is definitely an A+ in presentation. 

 

Quick hit of the final review to be posted when our final three have had their chance to put the Mevo through its paces. 
 

As we await the Mevo+  I wanted to give some quick thoughts. I’m not gonna give a ton away yet but I gotta say I’m Impresses!!  For such a tiny package the Mevo packs a punch. 8 data parameters AND video is simply amazing.  Oh and that’s all in a killer price point range. 
 

When I compared the Mevo to the full swing simulator I was getting ready to play winter league on, I did see some differences in numbers. It wasn’t a ton and I forgot the metallic dots so that is my excuse for the numbers being off. With the regular Mevo the dots are the way to go no doubt.  When using the dots my carry numbers we almost exact when I felt like I made a good swing to what I see on course. This is all you can ask for and an absolute win in my book.

FLIGHTSCOPE MEVO PLUS REVIEW

 

Now that the tracking for the Mevo Plus has been found and a Wednesday delivery shown, it’s time for my initial thoughts/plans for testing. 

While like my 2 other fellow testers I’m looking to improve my game, I’m gonna concentrate a little more on the simulator side.  As I mentioned a few times in this thread I went all out when I found out I was doing this review. 10x10x10 hitting cage with impact screen, 5x10 hitting mat that takes real tees, computer from work, projector from a swell fellow, and a heated shop from my father in law(until I redo my garage). 
 

Im not a big range guy and don’t get into bashing a bucket of range balls. Never really have been. For me the ability to play a round on the mevo plus, while trying to execute a shot instead of just hitting balls is HUUUUGE. 
 

I will still be looking to test the accuracy of numbers just as I did for the mevo. With less time constraints I can book a trackman time to compare. 
 

I believe I know where I hit the ball on the face but can’t wait for the impact package so I can verify. This really intrigues me as it will allow me to see what difference slight location changes can make on the data numbers. 
 

To help with accuracy I bought some Titleist Prov1x left dash RCT balls as that will be my gamer to start the year. 
 

I can’t wait to get started again. If there is anything specific you want to hear about or see tested let us know. 

 

Final Review:

First Impressions: 10/10

When it came to the unboxing the bar was set high for me. I loved the tiny magnetic box the Mevo came in. Well the Mevo Plus delivered in a big way. The bigger box is also magnetic!

Inside the box was a zippered carry case that holds and protects the Plus. Also included is a longer charging cord WITH the wall plug in, metallic dots, and the manual. 

Connecting the plus was a little more time consuming but as mentioned by others, this could have been due to having the Mevo setup previously.  
 

I did manage to get a few swings in already and found the setup definitely more detailed.  I will dive into that more as the review continues. 
 

I gotta admit the amount of data available is a bit overwhelming to start and will for sure take some time to go through everything. 

The process to connect to E6 was surprisingly easy. I expected to struggle a bit after connecting and setup issues but it couldn’t have easier. I’m really looking forward to playing these 10 courses so I can get back to posting in the VCT!  lol 

 

Aesthetics 10/10

This is a simple one to grade. The size is a perfect blend of small but robust. It has the feeling that it is built to last. The zippered storage case is very nice and you just know the plus is protected. 

 

The Numbers 15/20*

This one was tough for me to grade. The numbers were consistent as was the ball flight, however they weren’t exactly what I see on the course. I’m really hoping it’s due to having the setup inside a metal building. As such I asterisked the score as I may change it as I get the Plus outdoors and my permanent build done in my garage. 

On Course 18/20

I’m using this section for the E6 simulation side of the Mevo Plus. As I mentioned in the intro for the plus, this is where I really wanted to concentrate. For me this is easily the most important part. Banging a ball on the range is great to hone in distances or compare clubs, but being able to play an actual round is what I’m looking for. 
 

The E6 software was great and definitely delivers where I want. The graphics are awesome even on my iPhone. The only reason this isn’t a perfect score here is the need for a subscription to get more than the 9 full courses and 1 par 3 course. 

The Good, Bad, In Between 19/20

The Good:

Having a Launch Monitor/Simulator that is this good for this price is awesome

The Bad:

While the Mevo Plus at its price is great, the price for add ons is steep, in my opinion. However they aren’t necessary so I only deducted a point. 
 

The In Between:

This is an easy one. Having to always manually connect to the Plus when the regular Mevo was automatic is a draw back for sure. However it isn’t bad or difficult enough to deduct points for. 
 

Play it or Trade it 20/20

There is no way this is going anywhere for me. I have always wanted a LM/Sim and it’s been everything I have hoped it would be with the small exceptions. 
 

Conclusion TL:DR

The LM/Sim category is getting crowded which hopefully means better LM/Sim’s and lower prices. At this price point you would be hard pressed to find anything better. It’s not perfect but the Mevo Plus is a winner!

Pro Package and Face Impact Review

I’m not gonna break this down like a normal review. Instead I’m gonna try to be as upfront and honest as I can. This is by far the most difficult part of a review I have every written. 
 

From the start, my numbers with the regular Mevo were much more consistent with what I see on course than with the Mevo plus.  As myself and fellow testers have stressed multiple times, setup is crucial. After going through everything the last few months, I have come to the conclusion that the pro package adds to the data parameters and is great for those who love lots of data. 
When it comes to the face impact package, I believe this part is crucial for getting accurate numbers. The issue I have with this is 2-fold. 
 

First is the fact that it is an add on feature. I understand that some may not want/need the face impact so they don’t want to spend the extra money. 
2nd is that it is only an add on if you also add on the pro package. This means an even bigger investment for the consumer. 
In my opinion Flightscope should simply include part of that add on cost, not all of it, and make both main features not an add ons. 
 

Pro Package

The pro package adds 11 data parameters for club data and makes face impact available as an add on.  This is great for those that want to know everything the club and ball are doing. 

Face Impact

As I mentioned above I believe this is a must have. It’s crucial for proper set up of the Mevo plus to get accurate numbers. The key here is that while you can get the extra data from the pro package on your iPhone, you can not get the face impact and heat map without an iPad as the screen on the phone is too small.  

Once I got an iPad and was able to calibrate the face impact location my numbers improved quite a bit with consistency.  I had thought that once calibrated it stayed that way but yesterday I set everything up like I usually do. After a quick warmup range session on the Flightscope App, I opened e6 to play a round with my BIL. When we finished I went back to the FS App to get some driver swings in as I narrow down which shaft will make the bag. 
 

I was getting 200ish carry and 4500-7000 spin numbers. Wait what?!?

 I checked all my settings and they were right. Then I checked the face impact and it was slightly off. I calibrated it and it got better but I missed the big one. My lighting wasn’t ideal and that skewed the numbers. Once I fixed that things were back closer to normal. 

Conclusion 

While I’m not huge on the price of the add ons or even the amount of work needed to properly set up the Mevo Plus, the fact that they have the add ons and that proper setup helps tremendously is nice. 
 

Flightscope has a price point that hits the sweet spot for the Mevo Plus. I’ll mention it again but I think a 50% addition in cost for what I believe is crucial for FS to compete and be accurate is overkill but they don’t have to offer it and I’m definitely glad they do. 
 

In closing the Mevo Plus will be a part of my practice and winter play until it dies.  It’s something I have always wanted and couldn’t be happier that I had this opportunity.

Lacassem – MEVO (2024)

Introduction to Lacassem (12/19/23):

For anyone that does not know me my name is Mark Lacasse, father of 2 children and 2 dogs, and married to my fantastic wife of 7 years who puts up with my golf addiction, even when it comes to putting up a temporary tent to house my off-season goals of getting practice in daily. She just laughs from the bathroom window of how silly my addiction to the game is, which is shown below under standard family photo, edited of course!

I have been a part of MGS for a few years and have discussed a broad range of topics with so many folks here. It has become my everyday portal instead of Facebook and Instagram which is great. I get to talk with like minded folks and even unwind a little bit. A very nice distraction we have here!

My golf game is the best it has been currently. I have my struggles during the year, but it has been extremely consistent (score wise) which is a beautiful thing, I have dropped my handicap to sub 5 from a 6 in 2023. My consistency is off the tee, putting and as of this year my wedges/short game which has been such a great thing to have. My woes come on approaches which I am consistently short or just not making the shots I need to between the tee and green. I am really hoping to take that leap forward in the coming year.

I live in the Northeast, so the golf season is typically short even though I was able to play at least once every month in 2023, but that is so rare. In the offseason I am typically working out and working on my short game, but lucky for me that is all about to change!

Pre-Test Thoughts (12/19/23):

Enough of me, let’s get into the test! I am not a data junky, but I know when I hit a ball well and when I do not. With that said here are my thoughts initially:

1. Can the MEVO provide accurate enough data to me that shows me what is happening on good shots and those that are not so great? 
2. With that data am I able to find ways to improve my game?
3. Does this piece of equipment provide great feedback at the base level, or do you need the whole shebang to get good quality feedback?
4. This is probably the most important for me, Do I improve in 2024, this would be the only thing that changes on my off season work this year, so I can blame the addition of the work I put in with the MEVO on my improvements or lack thereof. (*This will be more of a long-term look but I think I will be able to get a good feel on if my good shots are happening more often, if I am getting some more accurate shots and improving distance.*)
5. This is just a bonus in my opinion, but can I have some friends and get some simulator games in with? Again, this is just a bonus if its functional and I can do some Thursday night league stuff! There are so many functions on this equipment that I do not see it being a problem!

I will be adding to this as I go, but this is my initial thought process going into the test and am really looking forward to diving headfirst into trying to improve my game! LETS GOOOOOOO!

First Impressions (12/23/23):

Like my fellow testers, the package arrived and I was super pumped. Was also very surprised at how small the unit is. Nice being portable since my setup is not permanent! The packaging is premium and came with everything I needed to get going. Carrying case, charging cord, instructions and the metallic stickers for the ball (thought I was going to have to buy these so was a pleasant surprise).

Unit is incredibly easy to setup. Downloaded the APP and was able to connect to my iPhone in less than five minutes. It is very clear when the unit is connected (orange is searching, blue is connected to a device). A++ for the APP and ease of setup.

Rest of the APP is very straightforward and easy to use from what I can tell.

Got my first 9 swings in and as far as I can tell initially very accurate. I added a metallic sticker to my gamer and away we went. Had middle of the road shots (was hitting of a 2x2 rug square), a few good ones and a terrible one. All picked up great and numbers are what I would expect from.

Took some screenshots of the good shots and bad shots. Like I said quick look through everything looks like I would expect. When I got a hold of one looks about right, and when I almost missed the ball, it went all 19.5 yds I expected.

Very happy with the MEVO so far. Simple and straightforward. Cannot wait to get into some details after Christmas and get some good sessions in. Until then, don't mind my dirty club...They get used alot:

Conclusion (96 out of 100) 1/8/2024

Just a little TL:DR wrap up so we do not take away from the next group of testers!

As always here is my “snopes” version of this review.

This unit is fantastic. My goal with this equipment would be to make sure I am continuing to get better during the off season. I think it will do just that. Not only was it great for me but I had my son out swinging several times and it kept him really engaged and wanting to improve, he would not finish a session without getting a good swing and contact on the ball. For that alone the price tag is worth it. The biggest AHA moment for me was once I shipped the unit off to the next tester, I found myself swinging which is still great but was really missing the data aspect of it.

The challenge features are just enough to keep swinging fun and swap out the monotony of just doing range sessions daily. Competing with others can keep you motivated and pushing towards your goals while still providing great data.

There are other units out there that are a little more expensive and have a few more features but this data for me was unparalleled and all I would need to keep myself improving. Ease of operation was streamlined, and the app was fantastic for digesting data. In a word SIMPLE.

If you are in the market for a personal launch monitor that has almost no barrier to entry (especially if you have a garage with a hitting net or just want to use it at the range) this is your device. I have no doubt that if your goal is to get swing work in the off season and analyze some data that this unit will 100% get you better for the course.

Lacassem – MEVO+ Review (2024)

Welcome back to the FlightScope show!

I am really missing the MEVO since I shipped it off to @Luisddavila and am looking forward to his thoughts. Received emails that the order for the MEVO+ was placed and I am SO ready to get back into some data.

Initial Thoughts

Like the MEVO I have similar goals with this:

• Improve my game on the course will always be #1, MEVO was doing that for sure, so with the extra data sets am I able to justify the extra cost in improving my game at a higher and more effective level?
• I am not the best practice person. I can swing for a while and do not mind hitting 30-40 balls in a session but at the end of the day that can become boring (for me). This is where the simulator comes in, does the simulator add that extra boost for me for more effective practice?
• Putting data....this one is simple is the data accurate inside the house when I am practicing putting? I am a good putter and get a lot of practice in over the off season on my mat, is this a beneficial tool for that in addition to what I am already doing?
• Is the setup easy? MEVO was great in this aspect, did not need to fuss with much. Is the MEVO+ as easy or justifiable if its a little more in depth?

I found this little snippet from another site and it is something that resonates with me. Again I am not a huge numbers person, I can analyze it and digest it but I do not love to get into the weeds of it. I am hoping that I get a really good grasp of what my numbers to good feels are and see a continuous improvement of consistent shots. I hope that I am able to see specifically what I am doing wrong on a consistent basis and make a plan for improvement (which I think will be a lot of simulator time)

I cannot wait to get into this and really ready to get into some good practice routines I was doing already with the MEVO. I know I am not a numbers person but I really loved having that little voice saying "carry distance 200 yards"...even if it was on every other shot....

First Impressions (1/15/2024): (10 out of 10)

Second I have never been more pumped to unbox a test. This equipment is going to be such a game changer.

The unit seems super durable just like the MEVO which is great. The stand like I said in the video seems to be really well designed and sturdy. After unboxing I got the unit charged up and synced ready for a session.

I did struggle with setup. Not because its not intuitive (once I figured it out it was a duhhhh moment), but when setting up your first download of the app (which I did with the MEVO) you register your device and make an account. Well since I already did that I was not sure what I needed to exactly do to link the new unit. There were no instructions on how to do that so it was trial and error until I eventually found it. It's in the settings and you have to change the device from the MEVO to the MEVO+. Once I got that figured out it was smooth sailing.

Quick notes I really like a few new features, among all the obvious stuff with data. Those being the battery/status lights, very handy when playing

Also when setting up the unit there are several new features being the tilt/roll which helps you easily setup the unit to make sure its positioned correctly, there is also a camera for ball detection and to make sure you are level where you are hitting

A lot more to come so follow along, going to be a fun ride!

Final Review (2/11/24):

Re-Cap:

Just wanted welcome everyone back to the final review of the MEVO+ and again thank both Flightscope and the forum for making this review happen. Like I have said multiple times in posts I am beyond pumped being able to be on this test and using this launch monitor daily. It has been an absolute game changer for me.

Just a recap on me and my game for those not familiar. I am a single digit handicap with a higher swing speed with driver in the 105+ realm. I am a straight to fade biased player off the tee and straight to draw on approach. Fairly good putter with a handful of 3 putts here and there but typically 2 putt with good distance control. I am very consistent off the tee and from 110 in. In between can be spotty.

With that being said let’s get into the final review.

Aesthetics (10 out of 10):

Coming from the MEVO I was not sure how they would improve on looks but Flightscope crushed it. I love the simple color scheme of white and red. I also thought I was important because you know the equipment is similar/related since they kept the color scheme and style the same.

Obviously with more capabilities than the MEVO the + came in a little bigger but is still extremely portable and light. When I used this daily, I had to setup every time because my setup is not permanent, it was not a tedious task because of how portable it is. The stand itself was a massive upgrade from its predecessor and is adjustable which is key when trying to level out the unit (more on this in the “On-Course” section”).

I did drop the unit a few times (NOT ON PURPOSE!) and just like the MEVO the red barrier around the unit is very durable. Big plus for us that need to move this around a lot.

The data/numbers (18 out of 20)

For me the most important thing for the FlightScope was to see how accurate it was against what I kind of knew my numbers were. I know everyone says they "know" there numbers but I have been fit for clubs and have used Arccos for several years so I have a pretty good idea. The main points I know being CH speed, distance, spin, and general flight path.

I got this information just by swinging as much as I could. Like I have discussed I know my swing and numbers well. I know when I hit a good shot and what my general numbers should be. With that being said, I found the MEVO+ to be very accurate in what I would anticipate seeing on course. But this is anecdotal evidence, just me saying it. So I wanted to compare to a simulator locally that is a more trusted source than myself (I know I am super trustworthy).

The local simulator has an AboutGolf setup. I have always found this to be an accurate place to play and so many places utilize this software so I found it to be a good comparison. I will preface the below data with I was not able to use an RCT ball at the simulator. I had to use their marked balls that worked with the AboutGolf setup. With that I take some of the data with a grain of salt. What I did find though, was that all the data on the MEVO+ was:

1. For distance MEVO+ was on the conservative side and always consistent in relation to the AboutGolf
2. Spin was consistently higher, again no RCT ball and it was consistently the same across the board in how much higher it was
3. Flight paths were consistent shape with each other
4. Rest of the readings I could get were consistent in their differences with the exception of the 48* wedge and its readings of left and right from center.

• This is also an exception for me because I had the MEVO+ setup a little off center so it was taking readings like I was pulling (see photos below). As soon as I adjusted it I was getting similar readings. KEY POINT SET UP YOUR MEVO+ CORRECTLY!

The pictures below for the AboutGolf just had a general wrap up and flight but on screen I was looking as I hit and the MEVO+ and the AboutGolf were very similar. Pay attention to the overhead view comparison here:

And Last do not laugh at this one because I had not swung driver majority of this past winter.

Driver:

Main point of this data is that even though readings were slightly different. The difference was so minor and on top of that it was consistent I am confident saying that the data provided by MEVO+ is accurate.

The other thing about the FlightScope are the different “games” or challenges. There are multiple sessions like the MEVO with a few additions:

I pretty much exclusively used the full swing session. I found it to have the best value for me. I did go through the others but again for me saw little value for my game. The chipping session I just did that on the full swing session. I like to keep the data in one spot and found value in different controlled swings to get different distances. Seeing it on dispersion circles was re-assuring of my ability to create distances on the same club. Below look at the 4 (green circle) and 5 iron (yellow circle). I used the 5 iron as a 3/4 swing on the 4 iron. You can see the clear control on different swings. Granted this is not an example of chipping but I could do the same thing on distance control with my wedges.

As for the putting session, I found the information to be very accurate. I went over this in the testing thread but once you get the stimp-meter reading right I was able to directly compare the reading to my 8’ mat and my PuttOut system. It was dead on with the three readings it provides which is great. But again, this did not provide a ton of value for me and preferred just using my putting mat and PuttOut. If I did not have those things, I could see it being valuable.

I went into the challenges portion during the MEVO review so will keep this one quick. Not entirely for me. The PGA challenge had me getting frustrated and making poor swings trying to match PGA numbers. This could be great motivation for others but for me I just found myself trying to do to much to match a tour player and was not beneficial. The others are enjoyable especially the range competition. Little value though for me outside of a fun competition with friends.

On-Course (hitting tent/net for me!) (20 out of 20)

Fortunately, the MEVO+ is a very portable unit like I said previously. My setup is not permanent, so I had to bring the unit in and out as I was going to use it. An added benefit if you are looking to have something to bring to the range also since its capable of being transported and used anywhere as long as it is setup right.

Setup is easy. The unit connects wirelessly to your device, and you can walk through getting it level and make sure that it is capturing the ball where you are hitting. Getting it level is very important and this is where the back support comes into play as you can adjust the “tilt”, very self-explanatory and a “set it and forget it” setup:

Like I discussed throughout the thread I had a steady routine of warming up, a range session and then getting a simulator round in. I really enjoyed warming up on the full swing session of the FlightScope over the “range” that’s on the E6 program. I preferred digesting some of the data and what my flight was doing consistently over multiple swings (even though like I said I am not a data junky by any means). Not a hit against the E6 range I just preferred what data was provided on the FlightScope App and how it was presented over the E6. Below is a comparison of what the E6 looks like vs the FlightScope when practicing.

To me the simulator is what I enjoy the most with the FlightScope. Of course, you cannot get simulator rounds in without the launch monitor so these things go hand in hand. I do enjoy practice on a range from time to time (although I warmed up every day before a session on the range) but my best golf is practicing on a course, playing multiple balls and trying different shots. It is what I enjoy in a practice session and the simulator gives me the best opportunity at doing that more often. I tend to find it difficult on a range to visualize and execute different shots, I need to see it on the course and that’s when I can work and make the shot happen.

I have always enjoyed the E6 program out of all the different simulator options. I like the visuals and how data is presented. Pair that with what seems to be a very accurate launch monitor and you get what is a very realistic approach to improving on course.

One thing I did not expect though was to enjoy the warmup and range sessions as much as I have. I have found a new practice and have been focused on some of the numbers I am seeing and where I can improve. Hitting multiple shots has helped me FEEL the good shots and SEE the data/results. This has given me something to focus on what I need to improve; it’s how my brain operates. Link that with the video capabilities and I have a visual of what I am doing right. These are all things I didn’t even think about when coming into this test, I thought simulator=practice=better, not the case here. Best example of this was one of my last sessions in February, I was going through hitting my 4 iron and was off and on but felt something on shot 16 that translated (was a good shot), I then proceeded to hit 4 more consistent shots, improving on each one ending on what for me is probably my best 4 iron shot (below):

The other perk is that you don’t need a full simulator setup to get this working. Hook your phone up to a TV or just use a computer or tablet and you have a very simple simulator to help you improve. Just need a net to hit into!

Miscellaneous (charging cord, E6 simulator) (18 out of 20)

Going to cover a few things here, specifically the E6 simulator program. For the charging cord, that’s the only deduction of points I took. I wish the cord was longer. It is quite literally long enough to plug into the standard 18” high outlet and rest on the floor. If you are using this in an open space and want to keep it charging while using, you would need run an extension cord. For the cost of the unit, I would expect a little longer of a cord (this is nitpicking).

As for the E6 simulator I love that the FlightScope comes with it standard. HUGE KUDOS from me for this. You purchase the MEVO+ you have access to the E6 simulator, with 10 courses and multiple ranges standard. I think this is a major bonus because you do not need purchase anything additional if you do not want to, in a word its simple, and I love simple.

Play it or trade it? (20 out of 20)

There is absolutely no reason for this to not stay in play. My main goal was to improve my game. Luckily for me my setup made me focus on my iron play since I cannot swing driver that well in the setup, which is the weakest part of my game. In the short time I have had the unit I can see fairly steady improvements in my consistency with irons, not to say every shot is consistent but I am seeing the ability to swing longer and get more shots in because of the practice, but also seeing better numbers more often.

Over time I plan to get a plotted line chart just to see if there is a steady statistical increase in consistency. Definitely a long term project for me.

Conclusion (96 out of 100)

As always here is my “snopes” version of this review.

Having a launch monitor with the capabilities of getting simulator rounds in is a big deal. For those that want to work on their swing and improve with consistent practice, that is now a possible reality with a slew of options out there. Pair that with the accuracy of the MEVO+ and the extremely lower barrier for entry compared to other setups, to me the MEVO+ is a MASSIVE PERK for that alone. Add in you do not have to really make any other additional purchases on the equipment if you do not want to you just hit the trifecta with the MEVO+.

I have found that the accurate data (if setup correctly, which is not that hard) absolutely helps you improve your game (if you put the time in). Time will tell over the course of this year if things translate onto the course, but I have no reservations that it won’t show when it comes time to play.

On top of the different variations of practice and simulator play, I have played 12 rounds of golf in the middle of winter with friends and family and that is just a really great ability to continue enjoying this game with them.

Most importantly for those paying attention to the data, the MEVO+ is accurate across the board. I have found no issues with the data it provides and is in the realm of what I would expect to see on course and at other simulators with a very acceptable margin of difference. Also the differences in readings are consistent across the board so even if you are seeing slightly lower numbers or slightly higher numbers it is not typical to see a drastic difference from what I have gathered.

If you are looking for a fun, accurate and overall just solid launch monitor that allows you to play on a simulator program look no further than the MEVO+. You may need a little more space than others but for the cost to purchase and what it comes with, I would challenge anyone to find a better solution than this to boost your golf game.

Pro Package & Face Impact MEVO+ Final Review (3/19/24):

Again, welcome back everyone! This review has been a really fun one to be apart of and as always thanks for FlightScope and the forum for putting this on!

Since the actual equipment has already been reviewed I am just going to be diving into the data/numbers portion of a review, miscellaneous portion and play it or trade it for the Pro Package and the Face Impact of the MEVO+ relative to the standard MEVO+

The data/numbers (20 out of 20)

The main data that is different from the standard MEVO+ to the Pro Package are below:

While plenty of this information above is helpful and have I have found several of them specifically the first four to be more than others. It did almost felt like data overload for me and I was focusing so much on what the data was telling me/showing me that I was not focused on just executing a good shot. This is nothing against the data just something to point out specific for me and how I operate.

Like the MEVO+ review my biggest question was how accurate was the data was the Pro and Face Impact providing? For me I found at the very least the face impact was very accurate. To test this, I used foot spray on the face of the club and just logged where impact was on the spray and where it was on the FlightScope app. I found that there was almost no discrepancy.

Now if this was an issue for some it can be calibrated, downside is that on my iPhone you are not able to do that (more on the miscellaneous section for this). Luckily it was not necessary for me and all of my shots that I tracked with foot spray (over 50 shots) I did not feel as though it was off by much if any:

The other data like I said before I struggled with. I really enjoy the graphics and if I dive into them I think I could probably learn a lot but not sure how much mentally I should dive into it. One of the data points I enjoyed and has helped me is the dynamic loft. I am definitely not compressing the ball as well as I should and am not very square it seems, which I can work on. But what I can say is that digesting it every single shot has not helped me.

Miscellaneous (18 out of 20)

Will keep my gripe short on this one because to me its what I call a “1st world” problem…the face impact is tough and you lose out on several features like the face heat map, as well as being able to calibrate the impact location. In the grand scheme of how much data the FlightScope provides its minuet but was something that was pretty discouraging for me.

My plan is to eventually get an iPad to run the program in the future but it just was not in the cards during the test to purchase one.

The big kudo's I have for FlightScope as I talked about before is the visuals and how the data is presented. It works for me and reads easily. Can also change around the data points (not all of the data points fit on the chart so if you want to look at specific things you can move those around to fit when you are hitting).

Play it or trade it? (20 out of 20)

Look, I cannot complain the data is fantastic and will at some point really help me. I am giving this a 20 because the data is really good, and I am 100% keeping the equipment. BUT if I had to pay for the pro package and face impact at the tune of almost $1,300, I would have to decline, I do not feel it helps me for that cost.

Again, I am keeping the FlightScope the unit is amazing, right now (and I stress) for me it is complete data overload and it does is not the most beneficial thing for me. I think over time if I am focusing on a singular thing with my swing at a time it could help but during this review that just was not the case or feasible.

As always here is my “snopes” version of this review.

FlightScope MEVO+ is a golden piece of equipment and a great tool to have in the arsenal. Add in the Pro Package and Face Impact data and a lot of people have everything they will ever need to really analyze their swing and improve.

For me the cost to buy these additions is really steep (still far cheaper than others in the market though). I personally do not think for me it is worth that cost because it is just to much to absorb and that’s not how I golf. What is the old saying paralysis by analysis? I get that with all the extra data in the Pro Package, and for the Face Impact I am fine just spraying down the club face as needed when I feel as though I am not making good contact to see where I am hitting. Lastly make sure you have something other than your phone if you are going with the extra data, you will need it!

FlightScope did a great job with this and I am really looking forward to the continuous use (even during the season) of this equipment as I continue to strive to improve my golf game! Thank you again to MGS and FlightScope!

Introduction:

I want to first say thanks to MGS and FlightScope for this incredible opportunity.  My name is Josh (hence the screen name) and I am out of Austin, Texas.  Born and raised.  I got involved in this great community just by chance, looking through some articles and it has been amazing.  Just about everyone on here has been helpful, knowledgeable and most of all kind.  In today’s social media world, it’s a pleasant surprise.

I live in a small lakeside golf course community just north of Austin.  I am married and have two small children.  My seven-year-old son has shown some interest in golf, but he really enjoys going out on the course and just hanging out with me and filling the divots.  My almost three-year-old daughter (going on 21) loves to ride in the “tart tart” and trying to hit the golf ball like daddy. 

For work, my wife and I are both in real estate.  I made the decision almost 4 years ago to pursue this career in order to have more time with my kids while they are young.  Leaving behind a great career in construction was a major decision but one that I don’t regret for a second.

I started playing golf about 20 years ago in a small town because some co-workers asked me to play.  Being a lefty, I didn’t have any clubs but one of the guys that worked in the clubhouse was a lefty and had an extra set that he gave me to play with.  They were the Wilson Staff Deep Red Tour irons.  I was instantly hooked by the challenge and the opportunity to get better.   I would play three or four times a week and was down to a 3-handicap playing with the local “noon” group.  My best round was a 2 under 70 with a birdie on 9 and 18 and I remember all the old guys throwing a fit because I was moving back to Austin, and they wouldn’t be able to win their money back.  It didn’t matter that they had taken my money for years, so I declined the few bucks and had them sign the scorecard.  Once back in Austin, golf eluded me for a number of years, only playing occasionally when I would get the opportunity, but I knew I wanted to get back to the game. 

Fast forward to this past year and a half, I get to play or practice golf just about every day and my handicap is down to a 5.  If you have seen my posts or thread about my goals and pursuit of earning the coveted “break 70” badge, you also know my struggles with the driver.

 

This brings me to the Mevo testing.

Can a sub $500 launch monitor really improve my game? 

Can it help me finally stop hating my driver?

I will be equipping the Mevo with the iPad app and utilizing it primarily at the range but also have the net set up in the backyard to do testing. 

Mevo offers 8 data parameters that I will be collecting data from on day one until the testing is complete in order to see if I can take this information and make the necessary changes to my swing to improve my numbers.

Carry Distance, Spin Rate, Club Speed, Ball Speed, Vertical Launch, Smash Factor, Apex Height, Flight Time

For testing purposes, I will be using 3 clubs and the lucky participants are, PW, 7I, and Driver.

First Impressions

When the UPS guy showed up at the house, we were expecting two packages.  The Mevo and the wife's watch. 

 

I was shocked that the watch box was twice the size of the Mevo.  I started to wonder what was actually sent to me.

Upon opening the box, the first thing I saw was high quality packaging.  The box is magnetic, and the presentation was great! 

It comes with a charging cord, quickstart quide, protective pouch and metallic dots.  

It is amazing that such a small unit can pack so much data and I am excited to see how accurate it will be and how it can improve my game.

I give it an A+ for my initial impression.

 

Conclusion:

Because this is an ongoing test, I will save the full review of the Mevo until all tests have been completed but for now, here are my thoughts. 

Mevo states: Practice with purpose using FlightScope Mevo – an accurate, portable, and affordable launch monitor that gives golfers performance data they can trust.

FlightScope has accomplished their tagline with the Mevo, and being priced at just under $500 with no yearly fee, it makes it one of the cheapest launch monitors out on the market today.  I found that the Mevo was extremely accurate with the data points that it offers.  Being able to easily take it to the range, on the course or at home hitting into a net and have the ability to collect data that is valuable.  I was able to make sure that my bag is dialed in with the correct distances as well as figure out any gaps in my bag.  I had the ability to play the Range Competition that will let you dial in specific distances and repeat your swing all while playing a game.  I could test my numbers to the numbers of PGA professionals and even attempt a Long Drive Competition. 

While the Mevo accomplishes what I believe they set out to do in this price point, I do think it has a few things that I would have liked to have seen.  It was missing dispersion and while most of my testing was at the driving range for me to see ball flight, hitting in to a net, you would miss that data for truly improving ball flight and ball striking.  I also wish that it had some type of simulator included with it.  Some of the other LM out there in similar price categories offer the ability to play rounds.  I think many people get launch monitors to practice during the cold months where outside golf is not available and it is an item with the Mevo that I think brings some of the value down.

Overall, the Mevo is an accurate unit and one that can really improve your golf game.  It’s price point and portability make it a must have for anyone wanting to enter the launch monitor world on a budget and with no yearly fees.  I am looking forward to testing out the Mevo+ and seeing how the additional data points, including the face impact and pro package can improve my golf game.

Now that I have confirmation of the Mevo+, it’s time to start diving into what I am looking to test and what I am looking to achieve with the Mevo+.

The biggest difference with the Mevo+ and the Mevo are the amount of data parameters that it offers along with the 10 E6 Golf Courses.  I am looking forward to having the ability to utilize the simulator, but my main purpose and interest for a launch monitor is to improve my golf game on the course.

The Mevo+ is a major upgrade from the Mevo and includes data such as, Shot Dispersion, Total Distance and Shot Type for both Full Swings and Chipping.  These are areas that I felt were lacking with the Mevo and something that I think can really help you improve your golf game, especially when you are hitting into a net. 

My plan is to test the unit at the range as well as into a net so that I can compare what the Mevo+ is showing on the screen, but also what I am able to see with actual ball flight on the range.  Will it be accurate?

Mevo+ also offers three data parameters for Putting.  (Launch Speed, Total Distance, and Ball Direction) I plan on testing this on the putting green at my course to see what, if any improvements I can make with this data.  It will also be tested with the use of the E6 Simulator rounds once we have determined accuracy and I want to see if that accuracy translates to the simulator.

Having the ability to collect these data parameters and trust that they are accurate can greatly improve your game if you are willing to dive in and learn.  I want to see what my initial numbers are and then take the data from the Mevo+ and work on making any corrections/improvements in my swing to see where we end up at the end of testing.

And finally, another advantage of the Mevo+ is the ability to utilize video with its multicam (4) option.  You are able to connect up to three mobile devices along with the internal camera on the unit to capture all angles of your golf swing.  The big question I have with this scenario is, can I connect both my Android phone and Apple iPad up to the unit at the same time?  How can I use the video and data to make corrections in my swing?

First Impressions (10 out of 10):

After a delay with UPS and with much anticipation, the Mevo+ finally made it’s landing. 

I expected packaging and presentation to match the quality of the Mevo and FlightScope delivered!  I wish I had the Mevo just to compare the size difference, but you could fit 4 Mevo’s in the Mevo+ box.  It is a much larger unit. 

Opening the magnetic top on the box, everything is packaged in a carrying case that zips up for easy storage and transport. 

The Mevo+ comes with instructions, metallic dots, charging cord (longer than the Mevo) and of course the unit and they all fit in the carry case.  It sits securely in the case and locks in place so that it doesn't bounce around during any transporting.

FlightScope sends you a couple emails that contain your registration codes for the unit as well as the E6 Simulator.  Setup was quite easy and would have been even easier had it been the first time setting up with FlightScope.  Because I had already set up my profile for the Mevo, the only change was going into the FS Golf App and selecting the Mevo+ as my unit.

I am absolutely impressed with the quality that FS delivered with the Mevo+ and excited to start working thru the data that it promises to deliver.  Stay tuned for plenty of post and photos.

Aesthetics (10 out of 10) 

The Mevo+ is absolutely amazing.  It’s compact size and packaging are perfect for putting it in the bag and heading to the range or perfect for the basement set up.  For a full-size launch monitor, it packs a punch in a smaller frame and for me personally, I like that about this unit.  The Mevo+ doesn't have a screen with the data which would be a nice touch but with the ability to link your phone or tablet, the numbers are always handy.

The Numbers (17 out of 20)

I found the set up for the Mevo+ to be a little more challenging than the Mevo but that is to be expected on a unit that offers a lot more precise data.  When setting up the unit, distance from the ball and your tilt and roll need to be as precise as possible.  The set up process shows you exactly where your hitting space is.  You are able to adjust tee height and the tilt/roll of the unit.  The more accurate you are with this quick process, the more accurate your readings will be with the Mevo+. 

I was very impressed with the accuracy of the Mevo+.  Having hit quite a few times in front of a Trackman as well as having GPS on the golf cart, I am confident in my numbers from each club.  I also know when I’m hitting range balls at my home course what the yardages come out to.  The distances seem to be spot on with the Mevo+ for distance for the most part.  I did have a few set up issues and varying numbers when it came to the woods in my bag, but again, I contribute these variances with my set up at the range.

Having the ability to capture so much data really opens up a whole new world that can truly improve your game.  Once you understand how these data points affect ball flight and distance, it gives you the ability to start working on improvements and areas of focus.

One of the things that I loved about the Mevo+ was the different options for views to see the ball flight.  You can view your shot in real time and then review all shots at the end of your session.

With the Mevo+ you have multiple options for practice sessions and while I primarily used the Full Swing Session, you do have options.  It also gives you the option to purchase swing trainers such as, The Stack or Speed Stick.  

Along with the FlightScope Full Swing Ap, you also have the E6 capability.  The Mevo+ comes with 10 simulator courses and additional practice facilities to choose from for practicing.  I did not put this to the test as much as the other testers because I am able to get out to the course almost daily, but I did go through it and experience the capabilities.  I found the E6 to be very accurate and entertaining.  

 

On-Course (20 out of 20)

I took this unit to the range a majority of the time but did also hit it on the backyard net.  Again, having a unit as powerful as the Mevo+ at the range or at home gives you all the data you need in order to improve your swing.   For me personally, I prefer to use it at the range so that I can see ball flight and compare that to the data on the screen.  

Some of the data that I really liked having was AOA, spin and dispersion.  I knew that I had a steep angle of attack but didn't realize that it was as steep as it was.  Knowing this information, I have been able to choose areas to focus on with my swing.    

The Good, The Bad, The In-between (19 out of 20)

The Good – If you are looking for a portable and accurate mid-tier unit that you can use both indoors and outdoors, the Mevo+ is a great option.  With 20 data points to gather and analyze, you can really improve your swing and golf game.  I absolutely loved having the ability to throw it in the bag and head down to the range for a session.  Looking at real live data and seeing the ball flight and path have really helped me dial in areas of improvement with my golf swing.  

The Bad - Honestly, I don't have much bad to say about the Mevo+.  Everything that I experienced with flaws were human error and not the unit itself.  If I had to choose one item to be on the bad list, it would be the length of the charging cord.  It really limits where you can charge without needing an extension cord. 

The In-between - Set up for my range scenario is slightly more difficult than most that will be looking to purchase this unit.  Our hitting area sits up higher than most and making the small adjustments for tilt/roll and hitting surface took longer than it would at any other driving range I have been to.  

Play it or Trade it? (20 out of 20)

I will absolutely be playing this!  Living in a part of the country that I can pretty much play golf year-round and my home course being minutes from the house, I have really enjoyed taking this down to the range and putting the numbers and data to use.  Once you have the ability to digest numbers and how it affects your swing and ball flight, it makes you wonder how you ever improved before having the data.  My plan is to continue utilizing the Mevo+ to improve my game and ultimately help me get down to my goal of becoming a scratch golfer.  

Conclusion and Final Score (96 out of 100)

The Mevo+ is an absolute beast of a unit for under $3,000.  With twenty data points, simulator play, and multiple options for practice, chipping and putting, it offers just as much as many of the units that cost several thousand dollars more.  Combine that with no subscription fee, and you have everything you need to improve your game.

Mevo+ Testing - First Impressions - Final

Mevo+ Pro Package & Face Impact (20 out of 20)

The final phase of this testing project and it's part of the test that I have been looking forward to the most!  

FlightScope has done an incredible job in creating a launch monitor that offers golfers of all abilities and all price points the ability to improve their game.  

We have seen the Mevo and Mevo+ with a ton of data and it almost feels like one of those late night infomercials. 

We are now unlocking the Pro Package and Face Impact.  So, how can this further improve your game?  

The Pro Package offers additional data points that can absolutely help you with your swing.  If you tend to slice or hook the ball, these data points are critical in the understanding of your swing.  

My plan for the Pro Package is to gather a baseline of where my swing numbers are and then create a plan to make improvements.  I tend to have a fade and my miss is typically a pull/fade.  I want to use the additional data to make changes over time by focusing on the Vertical and Horizontal Swing Planes. 

Along with the Pro Package, we have the Face Impact Package.  This is a huge addition to have as you are able to dial in exactly where you are making contact on the club.  How consistent am I hitting the right place on the clubface, and can you utilize this new unlocked feature to improve?

I have read up on these new features for some time now, and the biggest thing with the Face Impact feature will be set up.  We saw some of the small issues I had with the Mevo+ reading data correctly because of my range set up but will that translate to this feature or will dialing it in be easier.  

My plan is to put tape over the face of the club in order to collect the initial ball mark on the face and then you have the ability to set your first impact location thru the FS app.  I want to see how consistent I am with hitting the middle of the face and then see how that translates to ball flight data.  

We all understand and know that being consistent with our ball striking is critical in improving our scores and having all of this data can accomplish that at a quicker pace.  The question remains, will I be able to digest it all and learn from the data or does it become overwhelming?  

The Numbers (17 out of 20)

We have all mentioned how important it is to set up the Mevo+ correctly at the beginning and it couldn't be more true with the Pro Package and Face Impact.  I mainly deducted points for the challenge of setup with my unique challenges at the range.  I struggled to get everything dialed in as good as I wanted but most of this issue is user error and not the fault of the unit itself.  It is very crucial to place the ball in the same spot each time you hit, or it will give you varying information.

Below you will see how easy it is to set up the initial face impact.  I utilized masking tape and hit a few shots.  Once the unit picked up the face impact, I simply hit the "adjust" button and made any corrections needed.  

Here you will see where I did not have the ball in the same grid and you start to get data points that are off the club face.  Again, this is user error but something to take note of.

One feature that I really liked with these packages was the swing path and the different views that it gives you to really take a deep dive into the swing.  The combination of face impact and path really helps to understand your swing and how the ball reacts off the clubface.  

The Mevo+ packages add multiple views and once you learn how to read and understand these screens, you can then set your practice sessions around improvement.

On-Range (18 out of 20)

Change is never quick in golf, and it takes patience and effort to make lasting swing changes.  Utilizing the Pro Package and Face Impact, I was able to quickly review the information in between shots in order to make small changes and continue with my practice rounds.  I found that 90-95% of the time, the packages gave accurate data.  Everything is at your fingertips and as you can see below, you can then sit down after your practice and digest the information.  

The Good, The Bad, The In-between (19 out of 20)

The Good:  Armed with the data the Mevo+ provides, you have everything at your fingertips to improve your game.  The Face Impact and Pro Package data makes this unit compete with any of the top units on the market and for a fraction of the price.  

The Bad:  Set-up.  The most challenging part of this unit and the packages are making sure you are set up from the beginning and that you are hitting from the same spot, time after time.  I would highly suggest that if you are hitting off of mats, mark out your exact locations and periodically check those locations.  It makes a huge difference.  

The In-Between:  Learning what all the data means and how to make changes to your swing take time.  If you are serious about making changes to your swing, take the time to learn and understand all of the data it provides.  

Play it or Trade it? (20 out of 20)

I will absolutely be keeping this in my arsenal.  The additional packages provide so much data and information that can and will improve your game if you are willing to learn it and utilize what is being provided.  I take this to the range all the time and have incorporated some great drills at the home net, that have dramatically improved my consistency and ball striking.

Flightscope Mevo Personal Launch Monitor - MGS Forum Review by Connor (Byrnzee) Byrne:

Introduction:

First off, I want to thank MGS for this massive opportunity. I know that this was one of the most sought-after tests to date and I'm incredibly honored to be selected. This is my first testing opportunity for the Forum and I will do whatever it takes to get the best results possible for this awesome community.

My name is Connor Byrne - Byrnzee has always been a family nickname and something my friends have called me growing up. I currently live in Chicago, IL with my wife but grew up in Syracuse, NY. My dad has always been a great golfer and got me into the game at a young age. He never forced the game on me, but instead made it available and fun (which is the best way to do it).

I have been a golf addict for as long as I can remember and this Forum has been a great place to nerd out and get my golf fix between rounds. I joined earlier this year after my brother-in-law @Swood1994 told me about the great community here. I'm happy to say I've been welcomed with open arms and have found a place where my passion for golf is supported and praised instead of diminished. 

I had always considered myself a "golfer," but never had formal lessons prior to this year. I had found a way over the years to make solid contact with the ball, shoot decent scores and have fun along the way. However, I was looking for more consistency and I decided earlier this year to completely revamp my swing. This lead to a series of ups and downs with my handicap getting much worse before getting better. I'm happy to say that at the end of the year, I ended up with my lowest recorded handicap ever at 9.1.

Now enter the Mevo test. 

Prior to the journey to become a more consistent golfer with a better swing, my data knowledge of my own game was minimal. I knew approximately how far I could hit each club, but it was mostly a guessing game. Since taking lessons earlier this year, I've learned more about swing path, club face impact, spin rates, ball speed, etc. that I know all have significant impacts on where that little white ball ends up.

I had been wanting to get my hands on a portable launch monitor, but sadly it wasn't in the budget this year. When I saw this opportunity arise with MGS, I kept my fingers crossed hoping I'd be one of the lucky few. 

For my testing purposes, I'll be utilizing a year-round driving range near my house as well as an indoor simulator with Trackman for comparing data. I'm incredibly excited to get data on every club in my bag and get those figures dialed in. 

As @Josh Parker mentioned already, there are 8 data parameters provided by the launcher as well as skill challenges available. It's incredibly impressive that you can get all of this data out of something that fits in the palm of your hand. Especially at this price point, it almost seems too good to be true!

I'm incredibly excited to put this device through the ringer and come out on the other side with a boatload of data and feedback.

First Impressions (9/10):

When the box arrived, I felt like a kid waking up on Christmas morning. The weather in Chicago this time of year can only be described as "opposite of golf weather." Having the opportunity to test the Mevo and give myself an excuse to hit balls consistently throughout the off-season is a dream.

The Mevo box arrived in a larger USPS box with plenty of bubble wrap to protect the precious cargo (shoutout @GolfSpy_BNG for the safe arrival). The actual Mevo box was pretty small compared to what I expected. I think I had in my head that the Mevo was about the size of my hand... more on that to come in a bit

I really loved the design of the box. As others have mentioned previously, it has a magnetic flap that helps everything seem secure inside. The mantra of "practice with purpose" and the definition of Mevo on the outside were some nice touches to the overall aesthetic.

You'll also find a user manual, which contains a lot of helpful information as you're trying to interpret what the device does and how to set it up. In addition to the user manual, you'll receive a quick start guide that will get you up and running once your Mevo arrives:

As others have mentioned, you need metallic stickers on the balls in order for the Mevo to accurately read the data, especially while hitting balls inside. While there are other alternatives to these stickers available, it's nice that they are included in the package so you can get started right away when your Mevo arrives.

Now onto the actual monitor! As I stated above, I was shocked by how small this device was. I had seen other posts from testers, with them even having the monitor next to golf balls as reference, but for some reason I didn't put two and two together. This device doesn't even cover my palm (and I have small hands). 

Now the small size wasn't a letdown by any means. I was just shocked that this tiny device can be used as a personal launch monitor on the go. It fits neatly in my golf bag without taking up much room and I can even throw it in my pocket as I'm walking out the door.

Size aside, the build quality on the Mevo is top notch. The device feels very sturdy and the design is very clean. The kick stand on the back falls neatly in a notch to get you that appropriate angle for setup. 

In addition to the user manual, quickstart guide and metallic stickers, the kit also comes with a short charger (USB Type A to Mini USB) and a cool pouch to carry your Mevo and protect it from general wear and tear. I threw the charging cord and the Mevo in the pouch and both fit easily. There's a drawstring on the pouch as well to ensure your valuables are secure.

I will say although I understand the length of the charging cord from a packaging standpoint, it is a bit inconvenient. I would have preferred at least a 6 inch cord. However, it's not a deal breaker as I wouldn't be using the Mevo while it's charging anyways. I can imagine some people with outlets on the walls having their Mevo dangling in freefall or having to place something underneath the outlet to hold it. I could always buy a longer cord off Amazon for less than $10, so again, not a deal breaker but something I noted as a potential improvement.

In addition, I would've liked to see a USB A to USB C cord included instead of the Micro USB. I'm not sure if the Mevo+ or their other devices will be moving to a USB C cord, but since that seems to be the worldwide direction for future technology, it would be more convenient to not have to keep track of several different types of cables.

I'm very impressed with the overall packaging of the Mevo and the build quality of the monitor. I'm going to give my first impressions of the device an A grade. 

I'm excited to start trying it out and getting my distances dialed in! 

Aesthetics (9/10):

I was very impressed with the overall look of the Mevo. The branding was very clean, the packaging was of high quality and the device itself seems very sturdy for such a small size.

I would say that it isn't the flashiest personal launch monitor on the market. It lacks a bit in style and flair, but if that isn't something you care about, I don't believe it takes away from the experience.

It does seem like Flightscope is probably taking some inspiration from other devices in the space for future products like the Mevo+ Limited Edition. I'll be very interested to see what design and aesthetic changes they make in the future!

I don't think I would make too many changes to the aesthetic of the device. I think you could make the device look more futuristic and technological, but I don't think it is necessary. I believe the aesthetic fits the function of the device. Simple, concise, efficient and effective.

People definitely notice when you're using the device. Although it's small, it's hard to ignore when in use. I've been asked several times by people at the simulator and people on the driving range about it. People have been fascinated by how such a small device could be a personal launch monitor.

The Numbers (17/20):

 

Overall, the data you receive from the Mevo is incredibly impressive. You can receive instant feedback from hitting a ball within seconds. The default view is the "Dashboard," which is actually my favorite view available. You can rearrange these fields however you prefer and easily navigate between shots with the arrows shown in the bottom right: 

In addition to the Dashboard view, you have a table available to see a detailed data table comparing all of the shots hit for a particular club:

There is also a summary view that can be used to see the averages for each club hit during a particular session: 

Lastly, you can see a side view that helps you visualize your flight trajectory during a session:

It is incredibly helpful to have all of this data available at your fingertips. I mentioned above in my introduction, but I have never really focused on data when golfing. I knew approximately how far I carried each club, but it was mostly just a guess (and was probably often overstated). 

By using this Mevo over the winter, I was able to get much more confident with my distances, which helped me get better with club selection on the course. I would highly recommend everyone looking to improve their golf game to use a launch monitor. You might assume you hit your clubs certain distances, but actually be mistaken.

In addition, using the Mevo can help you understand your average shot. Golf is a game of averages. You're not always going to hit your best iron shot. You may hit an absolute perfect 8 iron 160 yards, but you hit an average 8 iron 150 yards. This data can really help shave strokes off your game.

To be honest, my expectations for the actual data from this device was fairly low. Most of my testing was done in comparison to a Trackman 4 launch monitor, which costs north of $20,000 USD. How can this tiny device that costs less than $500 possibly compete?

The answer surprised me and I'm sure will surprise you as well. The data doesn't lie and the Mevo goes toe-to-toe with the Trackman 4 in nearly every data category available for both devices. I did a more in-depth head-to-head comparison between the two devices here, where I hit about 50 shots with an 8-iron and tracked the data between the two devices.

That test used five datapoints that were available on both devices: Carry Distance, Club Speed, Ball Speed, Smash Factor, and Spin Rate. I won't post all of the graphs from that specific test here, but here's an overlap of carry distance between both devices:

You can see from the graph above that these shots were nearly identical in carry distance between the two devices for 12 shots. There will always be outliers in these datasets, but you can be confident that the data you're receiving from the Mevo is materially accurate.

The one area related to numbers that has been a bit of a disappointment is with the driver. I really struggled to get the Mevo to produce similar data points to what I was seeing with the Trackman 4. 

One thing that is incredibly crucial with the Mevo is setup of the device. You need to ensure that the Mevo is at the same level as the ball being struck. When I was doing the majority of my testing, the Mevo was resting on the turf at the exact same level as the ball.

However, when you tee up a ball to hit a driver, the Mevo is no longer on the same plane as the ball and the device struggles to accurately read the shot. I attempted to fix this by placing the Mevo on a box that was approximately the same height as the tee; I still struggled to get accurate data. As you can see in the screenshots above, many datapoints such as club speed and smash factor could not even be produced from a driver session.

This disconnect in the data between the two devices could have been due to a variety of factors: the simulator I used for testing only had bright overhead lighting at the area of impact; the Trackman and Mevo were both in more shadowed areas. However, when the data for every other club in my bag was incredibly close to the Trackman data, I was a bit letdown by the Mevo driver data. 

That being said, driver is the one club in my bag I'm not as concerned about how far it is going to a specific yardage. If the Mevo data says I hit my driver 265 yards and the Trackman says 255 yards, the difference shouldn't affect your plan for 99% of the holes you play. The main reason I said the driver data was disappointing was in comparison to the other clubs. The driver could be off by 10-15 yards at times, while all other clubs were mostly accurate within one yard!!

Overall, I don't think the driver inaccuracy would deter me from buying this device. If you're entering a long drive competition and need your driving data to be greater than 95% accurate, you may disagree. Otherwise, I was extremely impressed by the data I received throughout my testing, especially as it compared to a top-of-the-line launch monitor.

On the Course (20/20):

I strongly believe that where the Mevo really shines is on the driving range. The limitations of this device are amplified when only hitting into a net or at a simulator. You're not necessarily able to tell where the ball is going, or what the flight path is going to look like. 

However, on a range, you're able to see your actually ball flight and path in real-time, while getting instant feedback from the Mevo in regards to distance, spin, club speed, ball speed, etc.

I was able to test the Mevo on a driving range before a round of golf. By doing so, I was able to get my distances dialed in and apply that information to my round. I hit nearly every green-in-regulation and felt extremely confident with my club selection. If I hadn't used the Mevo before that round, I would have gone back to the guessing game that I'm used to playing. 

Many players don't understand that your distances can change on any given day due to a variety of factors. Weather, elevation, time of day, etc. can all play a factor. While your 9 iron may go 145 yards in perfect conditions, it may only go 130 yards on the course one day and leave you wondering where your normal yardage disappeared to.

The Mevo is extremely simple to setup on a driving range. My favorite trick for getting the distance right was to use an alignment stick (4' in length) to measure out 6' between the ball and the Mevo. Seconds later I'm hitting balls as I normally do and getting instant feedback to my phone that can help me. 

The size of the Mevo is also perfect for leaving in your golf bag without having to worry about It taking up too much room. I hope to continue to use the Mevo on the driving range to practice as well as warming up before rounds. In my opinion, it is the perfect driving range launch monitor for a casual golfer.

The Good, the Bad and the In-Between (19/20):

The Good: the simplicity of the device makes it easy for any golfer of any skill level to instantly receive feedback about their game. With how small it is, it's incredibly easy to bring with you to the course or driving range. The data you receive from the device is impressively accurate in comparison to more expensive launch monitors.

The Bad: set-up is crucial almost to a fault. If the device is not at exactly the same level as the ball and exactly six feet behind the impact area, you may not receive accurate data. Driver data is hard to get perfectly accurate even when set-up correctly.

The In-Between: there are obvious limitations to the regular Mevo launch monitor. Unlike the Mevo+, you cannot see face impact, total distance, club path, face path, shot type, among other data points.

However, if you are looking for a reliable, simple launch monitor that can be used to dial in your carry distances on the range, this is a perfect fit. The Mevo is extremely budget conscious and packs a punch for such a small device. 

In addition to the data mentioned above, the Mevo also includes three challenges: 1) PGA Challenge, 2) Range Competition and 3) Long Drive Competition. 

The PGA Challenge lets you compare your data to the pros! You can pick either PGA or LPGA and which club(s) you would like to use to compare. It's very cool to see how you stack up versus the pros:

The Range Competition lets you face-off against another player and compete to reach a target number. Each 15-yard increment is worth a certain amount of points. In this example, the first to 500 points would win!

Finally, the Long Drive Competition lets you face-off against an opponent to see who can out-drive the other! This view is similar to the side view you would see for a normal session, but focuses specifically on driver data between players.

Play It or Trade It? (19/20):

I will absolutely continue to use the Mevo in both my practice sessions and before rounds on the course. Having this data at my fingertips has helped my game tremendously and will continue to do so into the future. The only reason I didn't give this a 20/20 in this section is because of the limitations of the device. In comparison to the Mevo+, you aren't able to get all of the data I believe would be necessary in order to fully understand how to improve your game (swing path, face impact, etc).

Conclusion:

Buy This If: you are looking for a personal launch monitor that is budget-friendly, easy to bring with you anywhere, can provide accurate data, and help you better understand your golf game. This device can give you instant feedback on the driving range to help dial in your distances.

Don't Buy This If: you're looking for a personal launch monitor that can provide you realistic flight path and potentially be used for a simulator setup. This device lacks the necessary data and technology to give you a comprehensive picture of each golf shot.

Final Score: 93/100

Introduction:

First of all, I would like to give a huge thanks to MSG for this opportunity. I have been a member of MSG since November of 2023 and always wanted to be selected for a testing, but I never thought that it was going to come this quick.

My name is Luis D. Davila (luisddavila). I was born and raised in the enchanted island of Puerto Rico. I al currently married to Monica (20 years this 8th of January) and a father of two teenagers, Cristian (16) and Daniela (14). I joined the United States Army in June 1998 and currently stationed in Fort Knox, KY as the First Sergeant for the 83rd United States Army Readiness Training Academy I am pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership. Throughout my career I had deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan (2003-2004), Operation Iraqi Freedom to Iraq (2006-2007), Operation New Dawn to Iraq (2010-2011), and Operation Inherent Resolve to Iraq (2015-2016). 

My passion for golf, well I started playing golf around spring of 2021 when I moved to Fort Gregg-Adams (former Fort Lee) in Virginia. I was always surrounded by people that played golf, but I always thought that it was a boring game and not even the fact that I could drink while playing got my attention. When I PCS’ed to Virginia all the friends I had played golf, so I had no other option, but to give it a try. My GOD!! What was I missing my whole life? And then was when this toxic relationship started. I always describe it like that because, man it is a hate-and-love relationship LOL, because I hate days but for some reason I keep coming back to play. Then I learned about Top Golf (bad choice) then my son fell in love with the game. Since he was born, I looked for things that we could do together that would help us bond, but nothing got his attention as he was into video games. Surprisingly he got hooked with the game, stopped playing video games, and was all about watching videos of how to swing the clubs and how to improve the game. He got so good quickly that he made his first birdie before he made his first PAR. He currently plays for North Hardin HS (KY) and Junior PGA (KY) and yes, he beats me by at least 10 strokes and out drive me by 50+ yards.

I am a high handicap golfer (20.4), but like I said before, I play and shoot 87 then come back next day and shoot 110 (hate-and-love), and yes it happened to me on the Veteran’s Golf tournament in 2023. I try to play as much as the weather here allows me because Kentucky weather it is LOCO! I play most of the time at Lindsey Golf Course (Fort Knox, KY), by the way, I hate it as this course will challenge your abilities to play golf. Also, I like to try new courses, so I have played in Indiana and this 2024 I am planning to play in Ohio and Tennessee so @Sirbe ready!! I am a member of Veterans Golf Association (VGA) KY, Fairways for Warriors (VA), and a graduate of PGA Hope (KY). 
 

 

Testing:

As any golfer I want to see if the distances I think I carry are accurate. Every time I am at the golf course and get my distance from my Garmin watch, it is a gamble as I am either short or long, so I want to make sure that I get accurate distance with the Mevo. I currently play with Callaway Rogue ST Max OS (regular flex Graphite shaft) 5 through PW, Cleveland RTX Zip Core (52/56/60) wedges, Mavrik (stiff shaft) Driver, Mavrik (regular flex) 3-Wood, and Mavrik (regular flex) 4-Hybrid. I am planning to set up my net indoors and hit all my clubs to get an average data for each. Then I will take the Mevo to the course to verify the data and understand what conditions impacts the distances while playing outside (hopefully by then I will not be sort or long to the green LOL). Additionally, I will use old clubs, Ping ISI (white dot) to see if there is any huge change in the data.

MEVO Testing Here I GO!

First Impression 10/10:

Well as any other member had said, this device is TINY LOL. Thanks to @Lacassem for the quick shipping! The item came well padded (like I said once Safety First, Safety ALWAYS) 

I will say that FlighScope ensured that you understand that you are getting a Top Notch item as the message on the lid will let you know from the beginning what you will get from the device.

Its size becomes handy because it will not take much space if you want to take it to the golf course. Mevo it is so small and lightweight. It's easy to carry and transport, fitting into a golf bag or even a pocket.

After getting it unboxed I went and charge it, the charging time takes about two hours which it is not that bad as the battery will give you at least 4 hours of usage. The Mevo is powered by a rechargeable battery, which eliminates the need for a constant power source, allowing you to use it on the golf course or driving range without worrying about electrical outlets, which it is a plus.

Getting the device connected to your phone through the application it is very simple. At first, I had a bit of issue getting it connected as I did not have the right device in the app as it defaulted to another device and not the Mevo, but after clicking on the settings and selected the appropriate device, it downloaded the updated firmware and connected with the Mevo instantly. In the settings you can update your equipment (clubs) by brand, but not to specific club model. 

 

In order to get more accurate data you have to make sure that you have between 6' and 7' (more accuracy at 7") from the ball to the Mevo. Again, the instruction's pamphlet will tell you the set up, but the app will allow you to set it to the distance where you have the device. Also, within the settings you have the option to change the altitude, outdoors, indoors (40 yards or less), and pitching (20yards or less).

One thing that I found interesting on the app, is the players setting. In there you can add more people during your session (stay tuned)  

I had some Wilson Premium range balls that I will use indoors for my testing as well as Titleist PRO V1s. After setting my net up, I decided o hit couple of balls. From that I can tell you that it was amazing how you get feedback from the device instantly. After you pick what club and the type of ball you are hitting, you do not have to touch de device unless you are switching either. When you click on "Start New Session" the app will tell you "ready" then when you hit the ball, it tells you the distance and will let you know again when is ready. A great feature because you do not have to go back to your phone and click anything until you are going to change equipment.

I have not played much with the video feature on the app as I have been busy with work (1SG's life LOL), but I downloaded the app and will definitely will try it and give you guys my feedback. 

Aesthetics 10/10

I do not have any complaints with the unit. The MEVO’s size is perfect and can even fit in your pocket. Its design is sleek and compact. Designed to be portable and easy to set up. Overall, it looks clean.

The Numbers 16/20

When it came to numbers, the MEVO showed inconsistency with the numbers. I tried multiple set ups, such as different distances form the ball, current altitude vs sea level, and numbers were not consistent. At the range I picked targets to verify the distance with my range finder and at times MEVO data was off by 10 yards on average. In addition, I compared it the numbers while at the course with my Garmin watch and data was not accurate either. I looked up multiple reviews online because I was not getting accurate numbers with longer clubs, such as fairway woods and specially with my driver. I found out that the higher the club speed the bigger discrepancy.

Good note, the instructions are easy to understand, and it guides you step by step for set up. It also explains the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” so you can minimize data error. When it comes to charging, it charges in a couple of hours and a full charge lasted me for 3 or 4 sessions of 1-1.5 hours each and it lasted throughout a whole 18-hole game. But I will say that it should have a longer cable as it comes with a very short cable.

On Course 18/20

As I mentioned before, it is easy to set up and you can carry it even in your pocket. I tested the MEVO indoors and outdoors. In both environment I used different settings (6 feet vs 7 feet) to test the differences between them.

From this inside setting there was a difference of 7 yards (average) from both settings.

Features:

• Full swing session: one of the best features in this session is that you can add multiple people to the session, chose clubs that you are hitting, and you get instant feedback from the shot by voice and data that displays on the screen of your phone or tablet.
• PGA Challenge: it is a great feature, but you need to choose a challenge that is close to your swing speed (PGA vs LPGA) to be able to compare your numbers fairly. I see this feature as a fun way to spice up your practice routine because it will add some excitement to your session. It also provides valuable feedback on your shots, helping you improve your game in the process.
• Range Competition: the best aspect of this feature is that allows you to choose from different competitions, such as longest drive, closest to the pin, and allows you to custom a competition, like numbers of shots, what clubs, and select the mode. Again, a great feature to develop swing speed and knowing how far you can hit your clubs.

The Good the Bad and the in Between 19/20

The Good: I would say that overall, it is a good tool to have if you want to see your average distances. From my experience while using the MEVO, it boosted my confidence 200% when hitting a club. The data provided from the device allowed me to know how far (average) I was able to hit a club, whereas before I always guessed between clubs, and this for me has been the greatest take away from it. Also, its portability, I was able to take it to the course and set it up before shots, which it is amazing.

The Bad: I would say that it has limited features. The MEVO gives golfers minimum data and analysis compared to other launch monitors around the same price range. From testing I notice that it does not work well in certain weather conditions, as I used it on a cloudy day, and it was not reading shots at all.

The in Between: well for its price and portability, you cannot complain. I have mixed emotions with the MEVO as I enjoyed using it because it boosted my confidence at the course, but I felt that it is missing some accuracy.

Play it or Trade it 20/20

I will say that the MEVO is a keeper for many reasons. First, it is very affordable if you want to get a monitor that does not cost you a fortune, that will give you enough data to improve your game, and mostly that it is easy to carry and set up. Adding the MEVO to your golf tools will make your boring range practices more fun as you can switch from modes as well to add friends to compare data, even more to make it a competition. As I mentioned before, the MEVO helped me boost my confidence 200% as now I know how far I am, and I just grab a club and hit it without second guessing if I have the right club.

I feel that this product will benefit a golfer that wants to know how far he/she could hit their clubs. As I mentioned in the initial testing post. I intend to use the MEVO with my son’s golf high school team during this season to help them with their distances at the range. I think that by them having data that will show them these numbers will enable them to improve their game. At the same time, I will continue to use it myself so I can improve my game and hopefully I become a better golfer.

Conclusion 93/100

Overall, the FlighScope MEVO is a solid choice for gofers that are looking for a portable and affordable launch monitor. It is a great golf training aid to have on your bag. Even though at times it gives erratic data, it is consistent with your average distances and data parameters. That we can find flaws with the system? Yes, but it will allow you to establish a baseline or at least a basic understanding of how you perform with the equipment in your bag. I feel that I benefited from this testing, and I will suggest beginner golfers to look into this product as it will be beneficial to their game. Can FlightScope improve the MEVO? Of course, but with minimal changes such as longer charging cables and possibly a more updated port from the Mini USB to a Type-C as most of the modern devices.

Also, it is important to consider the MEVO’s limitations, such as its relatively basic features compared to more advance models, its primarily outdoor use, and its limited connectivity options. While these drawbacks may not be significant to many users, they are worth keeping in mind when evaluating the MEVO. But, if you are looking for a budget-friendly launch monitor that delivers data and it is easy to use, the FlightScope MEVO is a great choice.

Hello everyone! I’m excited to be a part of this review and thank you to the forum staff and FlightScope for putting your trust in me.

Who am I?

My name is Jason Bentley and I’m a high handicap golfer. I’ve been playing for almost 30 years and have a stronger love for this game than I ever have.
I’m blessed to be married to the most amazing person who both encourages and supports me playing golf. We’ll be celebrating 12 years of marriage on the 14th and I’m thankful she’s put up with me that long.

 

I play most of my golf in SE TN where I’m fortunate enough to play most of the year. 

The testing

I have been looking at launch monitors for a couple of years and just haven’t pulled the trigger on one. I have been seriously considering both the Mevo and MLM2 since they both offer Android compatibility and also seem to provide accurate data. Both the reviews I’ve seen from this thread and online say this is an accurate unit, so I’m coming into testing expecting good results. 

I’ll be taking the Mevo to the range, hitting into my net, and on the course to compare with the information I get from ShotScope. I’m going to recruit some of my friends to go to the range with me so I can get their opinions on the data they receive. 

The most important thing I’m looking for is, will this improve my game? If not, it’ll just be a fun piece of equipment.

What am I looking for?

First and foremost I want to see if I can use it to improve my launch angle. I tend to launch the ball close to the stated loft and want to lower that a bit in an attempt to gain distance and improve ground contact.

I’m also looking at the gapping in my bag to see if I have deficiencies either at the top or bottom. I was fit for my current set during the Cobra Challenge and want to see if they still hold up. I’m not going to expect perfection since I’m recovering from an injury and have had to build compensations into my game to keep from aggravating it again. 

I also want to get true carry yardages so when I go to my bag to pick out a club I'll know that through testing I'll be more likely to pick the right one so I can carry a hazard or be able to hit more greens. 

If I can see these things, I think the Mevo will become a staple in my practice sessions. I'm looking for something to help me dial in my game in 2024 and I'm hoping this will be something that'll help me improve.

First impressions

Like the other testers, I was surprised how small the box was when I got it. I know it's been posted on here before, but it's crazy to see in person.

The Mevo was well packaged and the presentation was spot on. I believe you can tell how much pride a company takes pride in their product by the packaging and FlightScope did one of the best jobs I've seen. I love the small touches they put in with things like the carrying case and the magnetic closure on the box. That little detail is something I love because I feel it helps keep the box from getting wore out from opening and closing it.

I like how compact the whole thing is, it's design allows for it to fit easily into your bag and transport it to the range. 

The FS app was easy to set up and I had it ready to go in just a few minutes. My first time taking it to the range all I had to do was measure out the distance from the unit to the ball, turn the unit on, open the app, and start the session to get going. 

I still haven't figured out how to use the video function and need to do some research on that. 

FlightScope knows how to present their product in a way that's satisfying to their customers and I'm going to give it a 10/10 for how well they have impressed me so far. 

Aesthetics

The FlightScope Mevo is a compact launch monitor that measures in at 3 ¼ X 2 ¼. I knew going in to the test that it was small, but I wasn’t prepared for exactly how tiny it was. Don’t let the looks fool you, it provides a lot of punch in a small package.

The first time I opened the box I knew the build quality was going to be good. First off, the box itself was sturdy with a magnetic enclosure that makes it quick and easy to access the unit. When that much thought goes into the package, I know the actual product is going to be quality.

FlightScope provides two storage cases in the box itself and a cloth bag with a drawstring closure. I haven’t used the cloth bag at all since I feel like the box provides more protection and is still compact enough to fit into my golf bag.

The unit itself is a white rectangular shape with red accents and five LED lights that let you know that the power is on, how much charge is left, and that it’s connected to your phone.

The only other major feature to the Mevo on the outside is a metal kickstand that looks like it’s made to last and not run the risk of breaking like a piece of plastic might.

 Aesthetics 10/10

The Numbers

If I hadn’t been following along with the test, I probably would have had my doubts about the accuracy of a $500 Doppler based unit.

Between judging targets on the range and comparing on course results with ShotScope, I can say it does a pretty good job of providing accurate information.

 It’s not perfect and I’ve had some misreads on the range where I would top a drive or an iron and get highly inaccurate results.

The Mevo also doesn’t take into account the curvature of the ball and bases the results solely on the club speed, ball speed, and smash like it’s a straight shot.

One of the things I absolutely love about the Mevo is how easy it is to set up on the range. It’s basically use the notch on the top of the unit to align it with your ball location, turn the unit on along with the mobile app, select distance from the ball, and choose your club.

Charging takes a couple of hours and really isn’t that big of an issue. I can just plug it up the day before I use it and it’s ready to go by the time I go to bed.

My biggest complaint with the Mevo is the size of the charging cable.

It’s way too short and in order to plug it up to an outlet I have to set it up on something so it’s not dangling by the cord.

It was so inconvenient that I bought a battery charger from the FlightScope website. This is my major knock on the Mevo in grading.

You also can’t just go to Walmart and buy a longer replacement since you need a cord that’s compatible with Raspberry Pi.

As a less expensive launch monitor, the Mevo offers a lot of metrics that include:

• Club speed

• Ball speed

• Launch

• Carry

• Smash factor

• Spin

• Height

• Flight time

Of all the metrics it provides I look most at club speed, ball speed, smash, launch, and carry.

It’s great to be able to gather information such as ball and club speed along with smash to show me where my deficiencies are. I know I’m not seeing the carry being optimized by the club speed, so I know I have an issue with strike and can work on that to achieve more optimal numbers.

The Numbers 17/20

On Course

I’ve mentioned how easy it is to set up and get going on the range, and I love that. For those of you that remember the Ronco oven commercials, it’s basically “set it and forget it”. You can just hit balls and not worry about whether or not it’s going to perform.

The standout features of the app are the challenges, they make practice fun. I especially enjoy being able to compare my numbers to a PGA/LPGA pro. I used the comparison to the LPGA because I know my swing speed is closer to theirs and I would be honored to play half as good as they do.

The range competition is another fun challenge, you pick a yardage and number of points you want to count down from and see who can get to zero first. If you’re practicing with friends, this is a fun challenge that will add a little bit of pressure to practice.

Overall, I’ve enjoyed having the Mevo in my bag and I believe it’s helped me to make better decisions on the course by providing me with my actual carry numbers.

On Course 20/20

The Good, The Bad, and The In-between

It’s been great to be able to look at my numbers and find out what my true carry yardages are. I think sometimes as golfers we only look at our best shots and base our decisions on how we once hit our 7 iron 170 six years ago. (True story)

It’s a fact in this game that we have to clear hazards whether it’s a bunker or water and it’s nice to know what club to use to keep from losing strokes or our ball.

I do wish FlightScope would have provided a longer charging cable so I don’t have to make adjustments to plug it in. I didn’t mind buying a separate battery pack to charge the Mevo, I can use it when I am traveling or if the power goes out to make sure my phone stays charged.

Overall, I do believe that I am hitting the ball better now that I have an understanding of my yardages and am making better club decisions on the course. Now, if it only had putting metrics…

The Good, The Bad, and The In-between 19/20

Play It or Trade It

The Mevo has made practice fun and I believe has helped motivate improvement in my game. I’m getting hard numbers that I can take to the course and base my decisions on and not just guess on what club to use.

I believe knowledge is a major key to improvement and the FlightScope is helping me become a better golfer and it’s a great tool to have in the bag.

Conclusion

The FlightScope Mevo is a fantastic launch monitor for a golfer who doesn’t want to spend a small fortune on a monitor. It’s accurate on good strikes and can still give you an idea of how well you could have hit the ball if it didn’t slice off the map.

The charging cable is my biggest issue with the unit, but if you have a battery pack that problem is minor.

Do I believe that it can help improve your game? Yes! I think if you can do anything to make practice fun that you’ll be more likely to get out and work on your game.

The skill challenges are my favorite feature simply because they add pressure to practice and dealing with pressure on the range can bleed over to the course to help you when faced with a challenge.

While the metrics aren’t as robust as the Mevo+, it provides you with the most important ones to your game.

I like the secondary setup.

Would use this with clients. I am a golf physical therapist. Teach a swing speed class every Monday at one private club. Will start teaching another class at a second club in January. See clients at both clubs and at a gym in town.

Can't beat the Science!  My current setup is a patio mat and net with a SwingCaddie SC4.  I'd use the Mevo to compare against the SC4 and track any improvements I get from the additional practice.
Snow is flying in South East Michigan and the heated driving range nearby might take precedence over the patio simulator.  Good luck to all the testers and the potential future testers!
