I did it boys! MY FIRST HOLE IN ONE!

My only green in regulation the whole night, played awful....but it only takes one! Hard hole, tight, 185 yards, 6 iron. One of the toughest par 3s in our area (Skenandoah). Pitched a foot or so behind the hole and spun back in the hole. I refused to believe it but it actually happened. I've been playing golf 30 of my 36 years on this planet, being around scratch the last 5 years and honestly never thinking it would happen and it happened.

Bar bill wasn't too bad, about $200.

Congratulations!!!  I'm still not on board with the whole idea that YOU buy everyone's round, considering it is they Who should be celebrating your achievement!!

Funny you mention this...

I did this in league last night, at a course I'm not a member at. The course that I AM a member at, I play league tonight. The members have the reverse hole in one rule, that whoever got it gets to drink for free that night....and many...MANY following nights.

Was able to sneak in a round of 9 at Riverfront Golf course here in Suffolk, Va. Played here before but usually about 8 months before i come back even tho it’s a beautiful course with fair pricing. Greens are always fast with tons of elevation changes so thats always fun for a high handicapper.

Felt great from the rip with little warm up. Driver was consistent contact wise even tho i was just short of carrying the water due to an over draw on hole 6, irons were consistent just working to clean up the inconsistent fade, & putting was good when i didn't overthink the speed(yes i did putt off the green twice 🤦🏻‍♂️

Have been having major contact issues with my Hybrids so needing to figure that out…

Got out last night for a quick 9. Played better than in recent rounds. Driver was in shape which is a real plus was hitting a nice controlled draw with good pop for my speeds. Went +3 for a 39 still leaving some shots out there as the short game is just not quite there yet with no real ups and downs to write home about. Though there was one chip on the par 5 6th where the ball was sitting down on small down slope next to the green and popped out a low running 58 that rolled out to about 3 feet which was awesome.

Also hit some practice shots from 50, 60, and 80 yards which was great to get a feel for, and is usually hard to practice. Finally, the 50 degree is quickly becoming my favorite. Maxes out at 115 and hit it twice at that length and then twice more for a feel 100 to 110 shot and all were hit well and 4 out of 5 hit the green, and the one miss was the 58 chip mentioned above, though one came after a punch out. So if I can just leave 100 to 115 into every hole I should be rocking it.

Some photos of the course, and the best drive of the day, long term goal is 110 and 165 on course.

That is the PRGR radar, got it with my super speed sticks a while back. Its pretty great simple radar system only really captures ball and swing speed, and can do swing speed by itself without a ball so good for speed training. Pretty accurate given its size and price.

... Same in Chicago, mostly flat courses. I think that is why I will never take my winter home course for granted here in Phoenix as the views are still awe inspiring after playing here for 5 years. Nothing quite like launching a drive high and into the mountain back drop and then watching it fall to the fairway.

Best score this year. 39-37   Had great putting and chipping day.  Didn’t get into any trouble from the tee. It was easy short course without much water or tree  and the green were slow and flat.   I been having problems with my short game and trying new swings  but I think I lot of my confidence is just going back and using my right hand and  arm as predominant lever for short putts

Well it's official  I now reside in a parallel universe....  A parallel universe where I can shoot a 37/41 78 tap in for par on 18 and scowl at what might have been.  😀

Why would I be scowling, you may ask.  Well, let's take a journey to hole 14 where I've just knocked in a 6 foot putt for birdie to go back to even par for the round.  I know this, I'm certain I'm dead certain I'm going to shoot par and I start thinking too much. Double, Double, Double.  A shake of the head a good drive on 18 and a birdie putt that burns the edge for what would have been a 77.

Thankfully my mental game is much better than it was last year and I've come back to my senses to realize that I still shot a 78, and that it matches my personal best.  🤦‍♂️😆  Seriously, I had a great day and three bad holes.  Hard to be mad about that.

Great round!

Only suggestion and something I always evaluate is how did I make the doubles and how can I prevent that next round. Was it a mistake off the tee or a shot I didn't necessarily have but tried. Or just a simple bad putt.

Doubles down to bogey and the score is 75!

You got this!  Year for records to be broke!  Congrats on a great round.

Thanks man.  Much appreciated.  This one's a mental breakdown for me -- which I think is the main mental block for me to overcome to get down toward par.  I overthought the tee shot on 15 way too much and made by far my worst swing of the day.  It was off to the races from there.   I stopped playing relaxed, free, and loose golf and started overthinking every shot.   Finally took a deep breath after 17, talked to my buddy who was at 3 over, laughed at his boring golf no birdie 15 par day and played the final hole relaxed.  Easy game right.  😄  Truth be told it's a win, I wouldn't have been able to stop the bleeding last year and would have probably walked off 18 ready to quit (forgetting that there were 3 birdies and a lot of pars prior to the meltdown.)

100% truth!  Great point on growth and being able to stop the bleeding!

Took one of the grandboys out last night. Hit the course at 5:30. I let him tee off at the 150 marker and 5 or six shots later he'd be on the green. 3 or 4 later "in the hole". Let 4 or 5 groups pass us to keep things flowing. I let him drive a little bit. He only lost 1 ball which was decent. I'm sure we could have found it but it landed in a patch of poison ivy and I wasn't brave enough to try and find it. On the 7th hole he actually had a nice drive of about 120 yards and put his second on the green. 3 putted but almost had a par when he yells at me. Grandpa!! I got to poop!! So off we go to the clubhouse. So we left afterwards and since I so seldom ever use a cart I forgot to collect my phone. Took him home, headed back and of course they had already washed the cart... and my phone. Still drying it out. Damn!! I love being a grandpa.

Shot a 42. Started off with 4 pars before it fell apart. Drained a bunch of putts today to save par or bogey. No Big numbers. Big stick was working really well today and kept me in play. No lost balls or penalties. Not even a bunker.

I've been reading up on course management and seeing a lot of DECADE golf information out there. That's got to be helping. Firing at a pin is rare now. Aiming for your now and away from trouble is money.

There exist a wedge in my bag that doesn't want to play anymore. Looking online for his replacement.

Still carded 2 the putts. Either I need to improve my lag putting or my approach shots. From 40ft out I'm pretty much going to have 3 goes at it..

Golf is dope.

Nice round!! Don't beat yourself up over the miscues. Try to learn from them and continue the growth.

Local 9-hole league debut today. Very nice weather and the course is in great condition.

Other than a round in Italy with rental clubs 11 days ago, I haven't been on a golf course or fully swung a club on a range for almost 8 weeks due to injury. So I went into the round with low expectations.
Par 36, shot 46. Two triples, one double, two bogeys, four pars. Blow up holes were due in part to pulling a tee shot into water on one and hitting a 205 yard approach shot bullet straight, but aimed a few degrees too far left and bouncing over a low wall into a driveway (out of bounds) after fatting my tee shot. Ha ha. Latter would have landed pin high if straight.

Anyway, I hit sufficient solid shots to give hope for the near future and I putted very well from within 10ft. Just a shame I only hit 4 GIR. My 4 pars were my 4 GIRs and were the two Par 3s and two Par 5s. For some reason I didn't play the Par 4s well at all. Go figure...

Onwards and upwards!
