How'd you play?

I played pretty bad on the front 9. I did significantly better on the back. Finished with an 86 but the 47 from the front really hurt. I did, however, make my first ace. Hole 14, Par 3, 115 yds, pitching wedge. I'm still pretty stoked about it. 40+ years and I finally got a 1.

Well, so far, I’m on hole six of walking, nine, and I actually hit my first straight drive of the day. Everything has been going left. Some have been playable, some not. Which is really weird, because my biggest driver miss is always to the right.

Could be a good sign.  My recent gains have included playing quite a bit more shots from the left side of the fairways.

Crappy!!  Shot 46 on the front nine... 3 doubles.  It was cold this morning; about 54º at tee time and the wind was 15-20mph out of the NW which is colder than the usual wind from the SW.  Well, I suppose it still is Spring, but after weeks of 90º+ days, I was cold.  I finally started to warm up midway through the back nine and shot 38; not great because it was a struggle to make pars.  I had a lie on a downhill grassy slope about 2 inches from being in the bunker... AND it was in a divot!!  Who else hit the ball to this spot?!!  I had to hit over a 40 yard bunker to an uphill green; landed on the green and the ball stopped 10 feet past the hole... made the par.

Yeah, got some cold air coming out of the north.  Low 70's for highs for a few days, then mid-80's until it gets back to mid-90's next weekend.  This is still better than it was two years ago in late June when it was 112-118º for a week.  My tomatoes took a hit; doing much better this year.

54* F. for me means that a long-sleeve shirt (maybe with a lightweight layer over it if it's windy; otherwise, no extra layer).  50% of the time, if the temperature is in the mid-50s, I wear shorts for playing golf.

Back in my hotel room after another great day on the links, played a course called "the quail" in Kelowna B.C. not really long, about 6100 yds however lots of target golf off the tee which makes the approach shots a little longer and the more pressure on the tee shots.

I gamed my Takomo 301 MB's today and had more success with the irons, I hit the 4-5 irons much better and already fairly comfortable with the scoring irons.

My best shot today was 140 yds into a par 3 which is a knocked down 7 iron for me, I usually fly my 7 iron 145, anyway knocked it down, hit the sweet spot, flighted it perfectly, hit the green pin high and ran about 20 feet past but wow, what a feeling and a shot.

Almost like a real player.... These Takomo's make you feel like a player... to be continued...

Ultimately a soggy end to a decent round. Course was in good shape, and the twosome I was to be paired with either didn’t show or were late, so I played as a solo single. I enjoy those rounds from time to time. Continue to drive the ball well off the tee. The more I acclimate to the Srixon irons, the more I absolutely love them. The distance control and dispersion are tightening up. There is no better feeling than getting a yardage and knowing exactly which club to use, then hitting a shot with complete confidence that it will go exactly where it is intended. Such good clubs. This was my first round using the Garsen Ultimate grip on the Odyssey Tour Line Eleven. 30 putts, which is 5 fewer than my season average. Played through intermittent rain on the back, and the putter grip never got slick or slimy. Can’t say enough about how much I like these grips.

Way to stick with it after the opening hole. I'm feast or famine on hole #1 usually either par or better, or it's double or worse. I never recover from the bad ones like this.

It was mostly attributable to not hitting any balls prior to the 1st tee. Once I loosened up, I got it out of my system. Also, having a 140 yard par 3 as the follow-up hole was beneficial. I hit a nice, easy 9 iron that ended up pin high, 20 feet from the hole. This year I’ve been trying to adopt the goldfish mentality i.e. keep a 10 second memory of previous shot or hole. Mostly, it has worked and allowed me to stay in the mid to high seventies. My next goal is breaking par.

So my last 4 rounds are 77,77,75,77 and a nine hole 37 thrown in.  Playing once a week, a range session and two short game practices is bear fruit.

Go figure 🙂

I even played back a set of tees yesterday and still shot 77.  It was ugly, lots of fairway woods, but the short game was very solid.

sounds like my type of weekly scoring...

Went out to my home course- bogeyed 2 and 9 on the front-parred the rest  EXCEPT for the SNOWMAN (I "Tin Cupped" it and hit 2 in the water) on 4 for a 42. On the back- birdied 10 and 18, parred 16 with a nifty short shot (even if I do say so myself🤣) bogeyed 11-13, 15 and 17 and doubled 14 for a 41. The MO continues- but I AM seeing SOME improvement

That is sort of like what happened to me at Royal Troon last July. I was even par through the first five holes, only to push my drive into the gorse on hole #6. By the time I walked off the 7th green, I was at +4 following a pair of double bogeys.  I finished with an 86, which included a 45 on the back nine, which was still pretty good for me on that difficult course, playing from the 6,300-yard tees.

I played Royal Troon on a buddies trip. Along with the Old Course and several others. Loved playing golf in Scotland!

Just catching up on this thread.. if you're still on LI (week of 6-19?) and are up for another 9 or 18 the next few days lemme know...

I’m playing with that same league tomorrow at Middle Island but then I have one more test scheduled on my leg and if all goes well I’ll be heading back down right after my Birthday. This was just a quick trip to see my 4 month old grandchildren and see my NY doctors (🙄).

Last Wednesday was my first round in 2 months, and I don’t want to push things until I’m 100% (once a week for now). I’ll be back up later this summer though, and we’ll definitely get together and tear up some fairways together. I look forward to meeting you!

I just shot a 3 over par 38 in my 9-hole league this evening. The round started poorly, with a double bogey 6 where I pushed  a 4-wood tee shot into a pond. However, I followed that double with a birdie on a par-3 that plays over that same pond (nearly a hole-in-one), and then six pars in the final seven holes of the round. I had no approach shots of more than 91 yards, except on the lone par-5 hole on this nine, and I only missed one fairway (on that same par-5, where I still scrambled for a par).  I cannot remember a 9 or 18 hole round in recent years where I hit so many excellent drives of between 245-275 yards, not only in the fairways, but in the parts of those fairways where I left myself the best approach angles to each green. On the few greens where I left myself rather long putts, I cozied my lag putts to tap-in range, and on the two holes where I missed the greens, I hit my recovery shots to easy one-putt range and made the resulting putts.

All-in-all, this was an extremely satisfying 9-hole round of golf, and by far the best that I have played in this league that started on the final Monday in March.
