What is the craziest thing that has happened to you on a golf course?

What is the craziest (non playing related) thing that has happened to you on a golf course?

I had a hawk crash through a tree to snatch a squirrel about 10yds from me, while I was preparing to hit a shot.  The hawk stood staring at me, kneading the squirrel with its talons to kill it, then flew away.

When I worked on a course in Indianapolis, someone was trying to steal one of our carts at dusk.  I saw them from across the course while I was doing a course sweep and went flying across the course to try to stop them.  The week before we had a large storm that went through and took out a bunch of trees.  One of the stumps that was left was just high enough to pass under the front end and catch on the rear axle.  I was going full speed when I hit the stump and it launched me through the front bars; I snapped the steering column in half and fractured my shin............fun times.

A high speed chase ended when a perp jumped the ditch and crashed into a tree on the 18th hole once.

I saw a deer with an arrow sticking out of it.

Can anyone top that craziness?

No, I can't even come close to any of that lol. Seems like you've had some fun on the course, Bones!

I think the craziest thing that I witnessed was squirrel getting plunked by a golf ball....poor, poor squirrel.

My home course is pretty tight and shares a lot of fairways separated only by a line of small trees. Bushes almost. Well my dad and I were just pulling up to his ball when we heard our favorite word yelled from a tee box in the distance...FOUR!!!! As we were tightening up preparing to take one for the team, we see a squirrel in between two trees, just trying to get to its little home. Next thing we know, BAM the ball comes crashing into the poor little guy. It must not have done anything too damaging, as it made it up the tree, but it may have taken long term affect.

The guy who hit the drive could barely believe it when we told him.

Other than that, not many crazy things have happened while on the golf course.

How about these:

1. The time my college roommate was going to quit playing until the topless girls rowed by us on the lake. He had a change of heart and is still playing.

2. Once and only once when I gently tossed my putter towards my bag. Too bad I didn't noticed that "Caution Quick Sand" sign first.

3. The time my attorney told me that my phone appearance could be on the course. The judge was not happy because the wind sound was distracting. He ordered me to go someplace less windy. I did and so did the 8 foot rattle snake.

I've got lots of these stories shall I go on?

I have actually hit a goose and a pigeon with a golf ball.  The goose didn't like it, squawked and flapped its wings.  The pigeon took it it the head and broke its neck; shades of Mariners Randy Johnson.  But the best part was when the pro's girlfriend picked up the bird and took it to the clubhouse and put in on the counter!  Man, was he upset!

A course in our area floods most every year.  If it doesn't flood to much, there are high spots on the back nine where you can "create" a course; teeing from one mound to a green, then doing the same to another green.  I was riding in a cart with a pro and to get to the green on one hole, we had to drive on the cart path over a small creek.  But when it floods, the cart path is also under water.  I, of course, said we shouldn't try it, but he was driving.  The water was deeper than he thought; up over the floorboard of the cart and I had my feet up by the windshield... when the cart died.  I thought since it was his idea to go through the water, it was only fair that he get out and push.  Did I mention it was February!!

1. When I was much younger, a squirrel ran out of the tree about 20 yards in front of the tee box, I grabbed a ball and said watch this, I threw the ball hard at the squirrel, I mean the chances of hitting it were small, well, I hit it square in the head, and he flipped over, and started convulsing, then after a minute, it flipped back over and ran back to the tree.

2. I angrily threw my 3 wood off the tee years ago, and it got stuck in the tree, so I used my 4 iron to try to knock it out of the tree, and that got stuck, so I had to climb the tree on hole 5 to get 2 clubs down,

3. I got hit by a ball once, I watched the guy swing and hit a perfect slice right at me, it is impossible to get out of the way, he was about 150 yards away, it hit right about where you would find the appendix, and turned instantly purple.

Signs don't come along often, but when they do, you better listen.

Funny story........a couple weeks ago I actually got to get out and play after working all night.  On the first hole, I lipped out a pitch and jokingly I acted like I was going to snap my wedge over my leg, when I did that, the shaft hit across the chapstick in my pocket and did actually snap in half.

I drove my cart in a pond/marsh.

I put the pictures up in the Last Golf Photo thread.  The pictures don't do it justice though, it's about 15-20' almost straight downhill to the bottom.

A couple of years after I started playing golf, I saw the same thing.  This old guy hooked his driver on a par 5, so he threw it up into this big tree next to the tee box.  Naturally, he threw another club up to try to knock it down (why do people do that?).  He was too old to climb the tree, so he paid a young kid $5 to climb the tree.

Ironic I saw a simular situation that Bonsey described earlier but with a different twist just a few weeks ago. We were on the 5th hole of my home course when this happened. Now down here we have those big Fox Squirrels which some Northners mistake for racoons. These squirrels are friendly as heck they will actually come up to you and take food from your hand. A big hawk tried to grab one and actually hit him and rolled it over stunned it. The hawk landed to finish off the kill and 5 or 6 of those squirrels jumped him knocked him down pretty good. The hawk took to the air hauling buggy. The squirrel that was knocked down staggered up and the others stayed with him as he limped into the woods. Do not know what happened from there. Our group was watching and the group that was in front of us stopped to watch before going to the next tee. I guess if someone had videoed us the look would have been Duuuhhh?

My first year golfing the high school team didn't have try out so I borrowed a friends clubs and joined the team. One day I hit about 5 shanks in a row a helicoptered the 7 iron it went into a pond. That was a pretty bad day. But as the season went on the pond kept losing water. At the end of the school year it was low enough I could see the handle sticking out of the mud. I decided I could walk out and get it. Took off my shoes and socks and headed out. After about 3 steps my foot went straight down past my knee in mud. I was able to get the 7 iron but the mud smelled awful.

Not sure where having a monkey come out of the woods and steal a golf ball ranks, but I would say it is in my top 3.

I was playing in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia at the club my company owns called Awana. On the 7th hole a monkey came running out of the jungle and stole my tee ball from the middle of the fairway. I was a bit surprised that they actually have a local rule to cover a monkey stealing a golf ball. Also got to play Kualu Lumpur Golf Club and that round was a bit more civilized.

Awesome. On a similar note I was playing league a few months ago and on a short par 4 I was right in front of the green with my tee shot but when I got there it was gone. I had seen a dog that lives in the house right behind the green and assume he stole it right from the fairway.
