New Srixon/Cleveland Gear for 2019

Recommended Posts

It seems that Cleveland has finally caught up with Mizuno and Titleist in their selection of loft/bounce options.

The new RTX 4 wedges have genuine low bounce options that have not been available since their old 691 Series decades ago.

With Mr. Cleveland himself having packed off to Callaway--I assume that he's still there--someone in the ranks at Cleveland has recognized a need.

Unfortunately they aren't really options.

in fact, only the Super high lofts have the low bounce option.

From what I am reading... these things should be amazing. The COG moves through the lofts. Hopefully it's fairly high on the higher lofts so it isn't just a moon shot wedge.

That's what most wedge companies are doing these days. Including Titleist and callaway

I see how Titleist is doing it, but it isn't easily identifiable on the Callaways. The PM grind I get but not be MD's. Even the Hi-Toe Taylormade will be rather high COG.

Only makes sense to me to have a tad higher COG in wedges. At least the “players” wedges. Would add a bunch of tricks to the bag.

Nothing new.  The SCOR and later the Hogan TK wedges did the same thing starting in 2011.

The Cleveland RTX-4 looks nice, and I'm intrigued by the XLow.  The Callaway MD-4 is OK, but the TaylorMade Hi-Toe will not work on my turf; the leading edge bounce is just too much.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Callaway has the holes they use to redistribute weight

I had the RTX3s and hit them well, can't wait to see these wedges in person.  Currently playing P790s and Milled Grind wedges and I am enjoying....but I have a soft spot for Srixon/Cleveland

Had a set of 745s, miss them terribly.  Then got 545 long irons to go with them, regret selling that whole set.  I had two sets of the 65 series...one a combo of 565/765, and the other a combo of 765/965.  Again, I regret selling those.  I've played a lot of irons in my day, but the Srixons are near the top.

No 9's -- no meaningful update for a blade, so they didn't do anything with it. It'll stay in the lineup unchanged for the foreseeable future.

While they get a lot of deserved credit for their irons, I think their woods nail it in terms of looks too. I have only hit their 3 wood, would love to try their driver but it can be tough to find one near me. Cup face - love it.

Just saw a video from Dunlop Japan that has Keegan, McDowell and Knox all hitting and talking about the new X85 irons.

The 785s look incredible

I talked to Ian over the weekend about these.  The delays on the 565/765 lasted long enough where he had a chance to see and hit the 85's  He told me he wouldn't blame me a bit if I want to wait a couple more weeks for those.   And said he's fully confident they will be just as good for me as the 565/765.

So yeah, I'm waiting!!
