What Golf Ball Are You Playing In 2024?

Recommended Posts

No... idea...

Last year, I went on a tear with the tried and true Z-Star from June through November. But once the chilly weather set in, and ever since, my scores suffered. I stuck with the Z-Star until last week when I played the RB Tour X for the very first time.

I'd played the standard RB Tour extensively last spring and absolutely loved it. Only switched away because I was having issues tracking a white ball in the air. Yellow just appears darker to me against a light background, easier to track, and the RB Tour is only available in white. Hence, the switch (back) to the yellow Z-Star and the unrelated tear (set-up find) just so happened to occur with that ball in play at the time. So, I stuck with it.

Back to the RB Tour X. Although my overall play has still been erratic lately regardless of ball, the clear to me fact is, is that the RB Tour X is a half-club longer off irons and seemingly 10+ yards with driver. So, consider my interest piqued and my willingness to give the X a chance, as high.

Btw... in April of last year, I carded my first albatross with the standard RB Tour. I didn't see the ball drop, so it was an INCREDIBLE FEELING to discover that Mizuno running bird logo staring up at me from the bottom of the cup! So, there's also a rather huge sentimental attachment to these Mizuno balls.

Have you tried the Z-Star Diamond? If you're seeing significant gains with the RB Tour X, it might be that you could benefit from more spin and the Diamond is a pretty incredible ball (AND comes in yellow!)

I was hoping to get my hands on the Maxfli Tour balls in yellow.  But we don’t have them here in Canada. 😡. I’ll switch between the Tp5x and the Kirkland.  However the Titleist Tour Soft  interests me as well.

When the weather is below 50*

Bridgestone BRX , otherwise the Bridgestone XS( and not because Tiger plays it but rather that  I get a bigger discount at the course I work at ) I typically like a tad softer ball than most . The Bridgestone XS plays better for me than the ProV1 also !

... I has some credit with Callaway and I was interested in the new Chrome Tour so I picked up a dozen of the Dragon edition.

I saw those in the pro shop this past Thursday and was going to inquire about them on this site . Have you play with them yet and if so , how were they ?
The Callaway rep told me that this is their version of the ProV1? What ball do you typically play?

... I play the Maxfli Tour and have not found a better performing ball. Equal but not better. ProV1x is also an excellent performer for me but twice the price of the MT. I have only played the Chrome Soft X which was a poor performer for me with too much spin and noticeably shorter with my irons, the Chrome Soft X LS that I liked and the Chrome Tour is the updated and "improved" version of the LS.

... While I like to know about as much equipment as I can and I have played most every premium ball, I would not have ordered these without my Callaway trade in credit. If it is a better performer than the Maxfli Tour I will be surprised, but you don't know unless you try.

I think this year, this is going to be the only ball I use. The Wilson Triad. Did well for me last Friday out on the course, even though it was a tad chilly and I was an idiot. You need to club up in chilly weather cause the ball doesn’t go as far. IMG_2535.jpeg.be8b54e1656b562bcd449634de01797a.jpegIMG_2536.jpeg.99ab163ef817fc1f65e929729b48dcdd.jpeg

I have considered the Maxfli Tour X for a while. The main thing that has kept me from it is peak hight was quite a bit more than the Z star diamond in the ball test and I would like if anything a slightly lower flight window.

... As I have said before, I thing the MGS ball test is a valuable starting point. I seem to remember they use a neutral AoA and of course results can be radically different for someone with a +3 or a -3 AoA. Not sure why they used different drivers but they used different lofts at slow, mid and fast swings. But if you swing at 115 and use a 10.5* low spin driver your numbers may be ver different than the test.

Very true, I could have different results. I am just comparing to the ball I use on their results. There is a bigger difference in the mid iron which is my bigger concern anyway than with the driver. Really the only reason I haven’t tried them myself is because I can’t just get a sleeve.

My supply of TM TP5, TP5X and Bridgestone BX and BX-S should see me through 2024. The new TP5X seems good so far and I'm liking the Callaway Chrome Tour, but for a next ball purchase I'd likely go for something like Vice or Seed to save a few $$ and because they have great reviews. I've picked up a couple of Vice balls on courses and liked the way they played. MGS ball testing results obviously help figure out what to try too.
