That can't be from a ball, right, since it's a line? Maybe from hitting a tee? Hmm. It kind of looks like 2 lines. It doesn't go through the grooves, right? So that should indicate it's on the surface.

I've only hit with indoor castle tees, nothing to the touch but not wiping off either.  I would hate to think that one tee shot marked the surface like that...and my drives aren't consistent to the point of repeated hits to the exact same location on the face.  No matter what I tell my golf buddies 😉

@GolfSpy_BEN that is encouraging news on your Q10 testing front, and hopefully as the season unfolds the speed comes back and you find it capable of making your bag.

It always seems to take some time to get acclimated to new tools or clubs, so patience is a virtue to have going forward.

A brief update from last night’s range session with the QI-10.
I had an hour to kill after dropping my daughter off at soccer practice, so I took a wedge, 8i, mini driver and the 2 drivers and hit a bucket at the range down the road from the fields. Because I’ve been having face to path issues lately, especially with the driver, when I got to the driver I used an exaggerated strong grip with the intention of hitting duck hooks, along with keeping the club face pointed toward the ground in the takeaway. My first couple balls did exactly what I wanted them to, so I continued by hitting a ball and slightly adjusting my grip back toward neutral until I wasn’t hooking the ball. All in all, I was encouraged by the shape and while the distance still isn’t back to where it should be, I have decided to give the QI-10 every chance to make the bag.

The work continues…

Good luck man!

I just came across something on a different site that may explain the rear weight of the Max using a non-standard screw size.  Supposedly, adding more weight at the rear will cause the C.O.R to exceed the legal limit of 10k. Does anyone know if this is true?

I talked to a TM customer service rep.  He didn’t know if adding weight to the rear would increase the COR beyond 10 K, but he doubted it would.  He also didn’t know why the 2 weight screws are a different size.  Apparently, a mystery that will remain unsolved.

I may be wrong but the back of the Qi10 Max looks the same as the Qi10LS that I have.  As a general rule amongst manufacturers if the weight is not something that is supposed to be easily swapped they use a different size star pattern than the adjustment wrench.  My Rogue ST Max LS was the same way and actually required a hollow tip star bit to remove the screws for the weight port in the back of the head.  The Qi10 LS is just slightly smaller than an adjustment wrench but can be taken out with just a normal star bit.  I have already swapped out the standard 2g weight for a 6g weight that I modified to 5g to get it to the desired swing weight.  I posted this earlier but will post again.  The screw for that weight port is held in with blue Locktite so a little bit of heat may be needed to remove the screw.

That's awesome! Does anyone know what model?

I read somewhere that he almost never golfs anymore because he hates not being able to play well. That's kind of sad, IMO, but his standard of good golf is pretty out of this world.

Hmmm....great pic!  Is that an Autoflex on his Q10?

Another range session, more incremental progress and a growing comfort level with the QI-10 core head.

As an aside, I recently added a new toy to the bag. A 13.5 degree BRNR mini driver, that is an absolute pleasure to hit and when it produces shots such as this:

It gives me an insurance policy and takes the pressure off of being perfect with the driver.
As if the QI knew it needed to get it’s act together, I managed this with the driver, which is more in line with what I want off the tee.

How's the Ventus shaft working?

Not QI related but is the BRNR easy to hit off the turf?

I love the deep faced fairway woods. I had an X2Hot 3 Deep in my bag for years and when it finally wore out I went to a Big Bertha Mini 1.5 for a bit. Now that I am back up north I am hitting more three woods off the deck than the tee so I compromised and put an M5 in the bag lofted down to 14*.

It feels really good. I think it’s a keeper.

The couple of balls I have hit off the deck have produced mixed results, so I need more practice with it, but honestly most of my range time of late has been focused on getting right with the driver

Nice!  It's a great shaft.

Understood. I have been keeping an eye on the mini drivers but some or the swings would be from turf and it's the biggest factor currently.

It’s too soon for me to tell, Jamie, after the swap with Ben.  But the Qi10 LS will be given every opportunity and early returns are promising.   Updates forthcoming.

I've been hitting indoors at the home sim with the Qi10 Max and the Tensei AV Blue Limited 60R and the C6 Blue 60S... and my launch monitor is not playing nice (or is being brutally honest and I am really , really bad at driving!). Data below.  Launch angle, backspin and distances are truly bad. This is not doing wonders for my self-esteem, but that's the data I have to work with.  Have RCT balls on order to see if the spin #'s get back in line with my mid 2000 average and helps with the distances.

The head continues to hold up very well and I am looking forward to going out on the golf course to play on real grass!  Courses are starting to open here in Ottawa, but it's still in the single digits in Celsius...that's a little too chilly for me still !

EDIT NOTE: the light purple/lilac is mis-labeled.  It should read: Tensei with TP5 (NOT TP5x)

I put the TaylorMade Qi10 Standard in the bag with a new head cover. I also traded out the grip to the Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G Standard grip.

My old driver head cover was the Tazmanian Devil - I never quite knew where the ball was going to end up. With my new cover on the Qi10, the Moose is loose...with more confidence!

The driver continues to perform as advertised. The 60xTwist Face is getting a workout as I don't always hit it on the button but the results give me more confidence as the ball flight isn't as off-line as it could be.

Made it out to the range today after a week hiatus, swung the Qi10 Max 8-10 times and was feeling really good with it. My swing is coming around, literally, and less up and down so closing the face has become a lot easier. Also feels like my speed is trending upwards which is a bonus. Still waiting for the shorter shaft to arrive and put it in the driver, can't wait to see if I like the shorter length or if maybe I have grown accustomed to the standard length. Some other experimentation is on the way as well, let's just say Sir "Otto-Phlex" will be making his way around the Max soon with a lot of great guidance from @IndyBonzo.

All in all much more to come, including a tee time this Sunday!
