Testers Wanted! Titleist SM10 and Stix Golf Clubs ×

The One Brand Experiment

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure this has been discussed before, but with the new releases maybe opinions have changed. Just for fun, if you had to only pick one brand to play for the this season - top to bottom (clubs only). What brand would that be?

PING?

COBRA?

TaylorMade?

Callaway?

Mizuno?

Titleist?

PXG?

DTC brands?

- if you want to have some more fun, build the bag and show it to us!

I just commented on another thread how since buying sub70 699 pro irons I have had to stop myself from buying an entire sub70 set up lol so absolutely Sub70 for me!

I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag.

Any of the big brands would make for a solid bag. Surely Titleist and ping would have to be top of the tree. What would make my decision would be wedges and putters. I love cobra woods, I have no opinion on their irons, but don't think I'd go out of my way to spend my money on their wedges or putters.

I would go with Ping because i love my current G410 LST Driver and Heppler Fetch putter.  I will fill in with i530 irons 5-W and 49, 53 & 57 Glide wedges.  I have hit G430 3w and 7w and liked the ball flight so they are in too.  I havent tried any of their hybrids (or anyone elses either) but for variety i think i could live with a G425 4 hybrid.  Put them all in a Hoofer bag and i will be good to go.

Are we talking off the rack bag sets, or custom selections within that manufacturer?

I have deleted this several times with a few different brands. Haha.

I'll land on Titleist for a final answer.

If went off looks alone id have to say mizuno but with my experience of playing Cobra irons and from trying out the drivers and woods, i would have to stick to Cobra. Putter and wedges might be an issue but i think i could work around it.

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

Standalone one brand I would have a tough choice between Titleist and PING.

The G430 10K v the LST and those Blueprint S irons 🤤

I could flip a coin and end up happy regardless.

  • Titleist TSi3 Fujikura Speeder NX Blue 60X
  • TaylorMade SIM2 3 wood Fujilkura Ventus Blue 7-X
  • Titleist U505 2 Tensei 1K Black 85 X
  • Titleist T100 4-P Nippon Modus 3 120X
  • PING S159 50-S 55-H 59-T DG X100
  • Vokey SM8 50, SM9 54 & 60  Nippon Modus 3 120s
  • L.A.B. MEZZ Max Broom Accra 47" 79.5*
  • Srixon Z-Star XV

Currently testing the 2024 PING S159 wedges…

Ping!  I played around with some of the new PLD putters yesterday.  They feel and look so great.  I’ve spent some time in the local SIM with the i230 and they are fabulous.  I’ve been fit into mostly Ping clubs, I may be a little bias now…

Full bag, I would probably have to go Titleist…only concern is I have putted so well with the Odyssey Ai-ONE 7s it would be tough to go away from that

Driver - TSR 3
3 wood - TSR 2
3 hybrid - U510
4-PW - T150 or T200
52/56/60 - Vokey Wedges (have SM8 now, but could go with the SM10 just because)
Putter - SC Phantom X 5.5

Currently I have a mix of brands, TM woods/irons, Titleist hybrid/wedges, Odyssey putter

TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Driver

TaylorMade Stealth 3 wood

Titleist U510 Hybrid (3H)

TaylorMade Tour Preferred CB Irons

Vokey SM8 Wedges (52/56/60)

Odyssey Ai-ONE 7S Putter

Think it would have to be Titleist for me. The T series irons look great and performed so well for testers last year. I’ve already got a Scotty putter which has performed really well for me and the TSi3 which again is a solid performer (when I can hit it 😂)

I'm going to be a bit biased here and go with Cobra. I just seem to get along well with their drivers, fairways, and hybrids.

My bag would be my current bag which consists of:

King Tec 4 hybrid with KBS PGI 75 shaft

Forged Tec X irons with KBS TGI 75 shafts

SnakeBite 54 and 58 wedges KBS Hi Rev shafts

The upgrades would be in the woods and 5 hybrid.

Darkspeed Max driver, 3 and 5 woods Kai'Li Blue 60

Darkspeed 5 hybrid with KBS PGI 75

I want to say Ping... I know their drivers and fairway woods are at the top of the pack, and I could surely find a set of irons that I would feel comfortable with.  I want to try their S159 wedges as well.  The only thing is I have not really liked any Ping putters i've ever tried, but just trying something for a few minutes doesn't tell you much

I think I could easily get a long with an all Titleist bag. I already love my T200s, and my utility iron was built to match the u505. Plus Vokeys and Scotty Cameron, not too shabby.
Bag I'd like to try:

Fairway Woods: TSR2 3w & 5w  w/ Tour AD IZ 6S
Utility:  U505 3i w/ HZRDUZ Black 4G 80 HY Stiff
Irons: T200 6i-GW w/ Nippon Modus3 120g Stiff
Wedges:  SM10 Raw 52F/56D/60M

  • 3-Wood: :callaway-small: Rogue ST LS, 15° loft, MCA TENSEI AV Blue 65g, Reg flex (42.25", tipped 0.5")
  • 3-Utility: :Sub70: 699 Pro V2 Utility Satin, 18° loft, :projectx: HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 80g, 5.5 flex
  • Irons: :titleist-small: T200 6i-GW, 27°-48° lofts, Nippon Modus3 120g, Stiff flex (+0.25”, 1° upright)

Tough call between Mizuno and Cleveland. At the end of the day though I think I’d go Cleveland just for the overall value aspect. Plus the CBX wedges.

It would be a hard choice between Titleist and Ping but I too would likely land on Ping if I had to go all one brand. If Mizuno woods played as well for me as Ping and Titleist I’d probably go with Mizuno but they don’t. Callaway would also be a strong contender.

PING? - Strong top to bottom,  just not a fan of their irons.  probably couldn't actually game the blueprints.

COBRA? - definite no;  just never got along with them.

Mizuno? - Just not for me;  not a fan of irons and generally pretty weak elsewhere.

DTC brands?  I like clubs from different DTC brands but their  strength is irons and I can't think of a single brand I would consider from top to bottom.

PXG? - This would be a possibility.  I could probably find something from top to bottom from their lineup.

Titleist? - I think this is the easy choice.  Obviously great clubs from driver through putter and lots of options.  Seem to be the best hybrids for me.

Callaway? - Like Titleist,  great options from top to bottom.  I am sure I could build a bag with their clubs.

TaylorMade? - Going with a little bit of a longshot here.  Would be the bag I would be most interested in trying.  Irons are probably the longest shot but I like the P770 when I have hit them and would probably do a combo set with the P790:

  • Driver:  QI10 MAX
  • Fairway: QI10 Max 16*
  • Hybrids:  Qi10 19*, 25*
  • Irons: P790 (5-7), P770 (8-AW)
  • Wedges: MG4
  • Putter: Spider Tour X double bend
