RDel90
So my work competition round earlier this month in GA didn't happen as I had to head home early. Finally was able to get out last Friday to play. So it was a month between rounds with no practice in between. Really frustrating I can't even get out to practice even in my yard. So I played TPC at Eagle Trace in Coral Springs FL. The place used to host the Honda Classic back in the late 80s. It's a pretty wide open course with Bermuda fairways and rough. Played from the Blues (72.6/139 6655yds). Overall, posted a 99 (52 front/47 back, 21.5 differential), not great, but I've played worse. This course is where I first broke 90 last year. I finally started conquering the tee box this round which is where I have had the most trouble of recent. Still carded 5 penalties for the round, but none with the driver. All day long, I felt really good with my woods/irons swing and striking. My alignment setup has usually been left side of tee box and aimed closed right to play my big draw/hook. But my swing path was more on so I was hitting straight/baby draw to the right side rough (so time to start adjusting alignment to play more straight and hopefully in the fairway. As I mentioned striking was great, but just couldn't hit a GIR and usually ended up in the rough around the green. Where I really struggled was the bermuda rough which I was in all day and struggled majorly with my pitching/wedge game from 75 yds in, more specifically the 20-40 yard range around the green. The stuff just grabs the club. Pretty much every hole I was duffing my wedges and taking 2-3 shots to get on the green. So lag putting all day with 36 putts for the round. So frustrated with the short game but big confidence boost to ball striking. This was my round that finally unlocked the Arccos caddie AI for future rounds. I love the Arccos data, but find I get too distracted with it trying to make sure it records all my shots. It misses about 15 shots a round. I use it for the GPS so I'm looking at it anyways. Played the front 9 in a little over 2 hours messing with Arccos in the cart, and then stopped doing that and got through the back in less than 90 min. I just hate how many shots it misses. Not sure why. And it's not always the same club missing shots. I really need to learn to not let the Arccos be a distraction. cnosil, CarlH, M. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Not so great short course round. Hit extra balls for practice. All my irons were thin. Finally on hole eight worked on multiple tee shots to figure stuff out. Back in stance and had to weaken my grip. Super hybrid was great off the tee. Two bold of 235 and 240. One thinned at 208. All in the fairway. I typically just put my phone in my left front pocket, and don’t look at Arccos at all during the round. However, I do have a rangefinder, and a Garmin GPS that I put on my belt and usually just use to keep score (may look at it for distances to water or bunkers, or a quick look at distance on a 2nd shot on a par 5…knowing I probably won’t make the green in 2). The only reason I may pull my phone out is to keep score on TheGrint. Also, I do have to go in and make adjustments to Arccos after the round (usually after getting home), and that’s mostly just making adjustments to putt counts for each hole (it seems to automatically give me 2 putts on every hole). Also, if I putt from just off the green it sometimes will count that as one of my putts, so I change that to show the location and count it as a putt from off the green (chip). One last thing, if you chunk a chip shot and it doesn’t go very far, Arccos won’t count it as 2 shots, so you have to go in and fix that…but I think you might be able to fix that in the settings. Popular Post cjeffs12
I’ve really been working on my swing for the past year, trying to be more neutral, and maybe even start hitting fades. I’m not there yet, but I shot the best nine hole score of the year for me! I only played nine as I’m dealing with a sinus infection and just couldn’t go anymore. I shot 37(+2)!! RDel90
I’m going to try a few things. I have the Caddie Link clipped to my front pocket and my shirt is tucked so I know it’s not covered. A few rounds ago I left my Precision Pro NX7 Slope rangefinder magnetic clipped to the golf cart. But magically, it was never turned in to the shop lost and found. Seeing as the carts are “disinfected after every round”, had to be one of the volunteer course employees that took it. So now I have to use the phone/app to look at distances to traps/hazards etc. I was relatively ok changing shots (chips/putts) after the round, but of course after a few drinks might not add the right distances when I have to manually add shots or penalties. Just hope I’m close. I’m not big on practice swings before a shot. Next round I will try to take a few just to make sure the sensor picks up before I actually swing. sirchunksalot, M. Popular Post dlow206
Shot a 100 today, which may not sound good, but it was a very good round overall, with two really bad blow up holes. One blowup hole was a par 3, tee shot pulled slightly, but that slight pull = in the woods on that hole. Then hit it over the green into a bunker, and thats where everything went wrong, took many tries to get the ball out of the bunker. Second big blow up hole was on 18. Tried to hit my tee shot too hard and topped it. After than, couldn't hit a good shot for the remainder of the hole. When I was swinging on 18, I would see my shadow and for some reason that really messed me up. Other than those holes, the round was pretty good. cnosil, cksurfdude, BKordon and 10 others 13 Quote Follow my golf journey to break into the 80s Tester for the Titleist TSi Driver Spring 2020 MGS Tester for the Fujikura Motore X Shaft Updated 07/15/2022 Driver: Rogue St Max LS - Autoflex Fairway Woods: Rogue Max St 3HL and 7 Wood Irons: JPX 921 Hot Metal 5 to AW - Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff parallel tip Wedges: Glide 4.0 54 and 58 Putter: PLD Custom Kushin
Popular Post Kenny B
Well, I shot my age... 74. See post on that topic for details. The best ball striking round I have ever had. I shot 36 (-1) on the front and 38 (+3) on the back with a double at the last. One thing that was different today; I put a sleeve of the Original Kirkland Signature balls in play. I still have a dozen. I hit 10 of 13 fairways with my new Callaway Epic Max driver, and I was longer than my 6 year old Bridgestone driver. Only one drive was a problem; in the left fairway bunker on #18 that cost me a double. I hit 9/18 GIR, which is about twice the number I usually hit, and I had 28 putts with 3 birdies... none of which were easy putts. For some reason I just felt like I was making good rotations through the ball, and the ball jump off the face. I hope this continues, but I know this is usually temporary. However, the feeling was something that will last a long time. Popular Post cnosil
Pretty good day on the course today; started off a bit rainy with temps in the low 50s but cleared up after a few holes. 44/39: 83 9 FW, 6 GIR, 30 Putts. Ball striking was solid; the lesson from a few weeks ago really seems to be paying off. Round was actually better than the score indicates. 1 birdie, 4 bogies, double, and a sextuple. Yep, took a 10 on one of the holes. Tee shot was in the long stuff, three to get back into the fairway, then pull hooked the next shot into more deep stuff, three more to get on the green and a 2 putt for a smooth 10. Popular Post edingc
Wife was out of town for the weekend so I played a little more golf than I might normally over the holiday. Won't bore you with stats from five rounds (3 18s, 2 9s), but to sum up my weekend I played OK golf for a lot of holes but couldn't avoid blowup holes on a couple of the rounds. Shot 39, 91, 42, 92, 81, so very rollercoaster-ish. The 92 and 81 were not at my home course. 92 was a shorter course but extremely penal off the tee. Had two birdies and only lost one ball and still managed the 92. The 81 was from this morning's round back at Moss Ridge, where we played last weekend and I shot an 87. After completely duffing my opening drive about 30 yards onto the next set of tees (I re-teed for my third shot), I settled down and played pretty well with another pair of birdies, but had an unfortunate (and avoidable) triple bogey on one of the par 5s. I'm striking my irons pretty well, chipping pretty well and putting comes and goes. My driver/tee game has been awful for the past few weeks. Just weak fades/slices all weekend long. MrBandit
Played a weird round today. Back was hurting so i couldn't make a full turn or go down to hit the shots. So I hit alot of the shots thin.. didn't hit many fairways. Maybe 1 or 2 and two 3 putts add insult to injury. Am surprised that i scored what i did. cnosil, MattF, sirchunksalot and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: TaylorMade Qi10 MAX - 8.5 with Fujikura Speeder NX TCS 50 (Terra Forza White Shaft Testing) 3 -Wood: Sub70 949x 3 Wood 15 with Hrdz RDX Black Stiff 5-Wood: Sub70 949x 5 Wood with Hrdz RDX Black stiff 4-Hybrid: Sub70 949x 4 Hybrid with Project X 5.5 Hybrid Stiff Irons: Mizuno Pro 225 - 6-PW , w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff Wedges: Sub70 TAIII w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff - 50 ,56, 60 Putter: L.A.B Mezz1, 34 in Balls: MaxFli Tour X, TaylorMade Tour Response, TaylorMade TPx GPS: Shot Scope X5 with Tracking TESTED: SUB70 949X 5 Wood TESTED: NIPPO N.S. Well I’m pretty sure thats more golf than I have managed yet this year! Nothing irks me more than a double or triple bogey on par 5s. I feel your pain. I had a round like you with the driver a few weeks ago, couldn’t hit a decent drive for my life. I think I had 3 go over average that day and one of them was more lucky than good. That’s awesome that you got to play so many rounds though, I was supposed to play yesterday but rain/wind/cool temps put that on hold. BKordon, Curtis Atkinson, M. It was a little different configuration of holes than I expected to play (like you, I planned to play 18 yesterday morning but we had frost delay for second day in a row so I just went home), but my brother-in-law got stuck with no playing partner at the last minute so I ended up playing two days in a row with him. It's nice to have a playing partner! Friday and Saturday nights were awesome because I got to walk a twilight nine - perks of a membership - I showed up around 7:30 each night and was the last car in the parking lot both nights. Really relaxing (and I have some more GoPro footage to cut together!). I got eaten up by a few sand traps today and yesterday. DiscipleofPenick
78 today at my home course with a 37 on the back 9. Bird on 18 which really helped.
