What's in Your (Contest-Winning) Cobra Bag?

Recommended Posts

I expect that we're obviously all pretty excited about the Cobra contest announced today. I certainly didn't want to mess up the contest application thread, but I thought it would be fun to post what set of Cobra clubs we'd have our eyes on if chosen.

So I'll start:

F8 Driver, stiff, set at 10°, maybe a half-inch short

F8 3-4 Fairway, set at 15.5°

F8 One Length 3 and 4 hybrids

F8 One Length 5-GW

King PŪR 54° and 58° wedges

I've really been wanting to give single-length irons a try. I tend to be overly-analytic about golf, likely to my own detriment, but the single-length idea absolutely intrigues me.

What would be in your Cobra bag?

You've pretty much already named my bag that I purchased a month ago. Good luck to you and I'm happy to see you'd go the one length route.

Driver and 3w F8+

3 and 4 hybrids

F8 5-9 w/ 7i length shafts

Pur 50, 56, 60 w/ PW length shafts

Personally not a fan of how short the lob wedges can be sometimes and I know quite a few pros have all their wedges the same length

That's it for me!

Unless I misread, I believe that it is only for clubs the F8 range and only King wedges. So I don't think the PUR is eligible. But I could be very wrong!!

Let's see where this gets me.

Driver - F8+ xstiff

Fairway - F8+ xstiff 15*

Hybrid - F8 3H & 4H xstiff

Irons - F8 5-PW xstiff steel

Wedges - king pur 50*, 56* & 60* xstiff steel.

Would be interested to see how the increase in forgiveness helps.

Fair point! I guess it's a wishlist. The F8 range looks great as well!

M...great idea for a thread IMO   Just one clarification, and not to rain on your idea but just want everyone to be aware it's not a contest per se, it's a Testing Application Thread.   There is a big commitment that comes with being selected for this test, both in putting the clubs in play all season and being active on Social Media with your results.  So while we encourage everyone to apply if they can meet the commitment, we want them tor realize it's not just a "contest" for a set of clubs.

All that said...Let's see what everyone would choose to game for the season..also another disclaimer answering in this thread will not influence the selection either way!!

I will not be entering the contest. But it sure looks interesting and fun. Best of luck to those chosen.

I posted in the contest page.... but now that's up to 36  or more pages I probably won't get a reply to my question. That being...

How are the clubs going to be fit to you? Are contestants to just tell MGS or Cobra what specs they "think" they need? Or will Cobra do a fitting? Will it be an online fitting? (which I disagree with anywhere)

Seems to me; and as all of us constantly harp about how important a proper fitting is; shouldn't these clubs should be fit to each player? I think basically they will all be OTR so to speak. What am I missing? Are Cobra clubs so good that a proper fitting isn't necessary?

I would imagine that you would go to your local club fitter and then provide the specs from that fitting to MGS

My guess/hope Plaid would be if you were selected to test that you be be committed to spending a little bit of money (maybe the money for new clubs that wouldn't be necessary if chosen) to go through a fit, because the importance of it is paramount to a fair and substantial test. I know that would be my decision to go through if selected for sure.

EDIT:

My pre-fit bag would probably look a little something like this.

F8 Tour Length Driver

F8+ 4/5 wood

F8 One 3 and 4 hybrids

F8 One 6-L

Definitely an important clarification. While all who applied undoubtedly hope to be chosen, the regulars on the site know that choosing those who will follow through on the commitment to testing and reviewing ends up being a win for all of us.

This is going to be a fun contest! I'm keeping my name off the list for this one, but good luck to everyone who has entered. If I had to choose a bag, I'd probably go with the exact one you mentioned. The one-lengths really intrigue me!

Can't wait to follow along with this! 🤙🏼

I'm probably sure when these "big" contests" or reviews are put forth I always say the same things. And speaking from experience (only once) if you don't think or feel you can perform a really ....I mean really good job both in time, writing, photos and perhaps spending a little money if needed. Don't apply!!!

As for my previous post regarding fitting these clubs.... I'm not sure how that's going to work. Maybe one of our MGS guys can set us straight.

For my one and only review for the SLDR in 2014 I only had a shaft option to choose from. And it worked out believe it or not. One out of a 100 I'd bet.

Also if you are choosing to not apply there is no need to tell us you are choosing to not apply...especially twice in 2 different threads. Believe it or not we are smart enough to figure out if your name isn't on the list we won't pick you.

Chill out Meyer. I didn't say or suggest you or anyone working for or volunteering for MGS isn't smart.

If I did please quote it for us.

Have a great afternoon!

My bad, it was just an assumption based on the repeated letting us know that you aren't applying.

In the interest of not derailing this thread any further here's my pick of clubs if I was playing cobra.

F8+ driver

F8+ 4/5 w

F8 4H

F8 5-PW

PUR wedges 50 (bent 48) 52, 56, 60
