Punta Mita Golf Club - Pacifico Course

I wouldn't normally find myself in Punta Mita, MX, but I made my company's President's Club, and that's where the meeting was held this year.  I was really psyched that some of my good buddies made it as well.  And then I took a look at the resort, and I saw the golf courses.

Oh.

My.

God.

Mrs. Looper saw them as well, and told me that "you'll just have to play as much as you can, because God knows when we're coming back.  I'll be on the beach, drinking Pina Coladas."

I'll be honest, I don't normally like Jack Nicklaus courses.  He designs courses that favor his game - high balls that curve left to right.  My ugly, low hook doesn't tend to work out too well.  But this place really suited several different styles of play.  For the most part, it was nice and bouncy, but they let the green surrounds get a little too long and sticky.  One of my big sticking points (pun intended) is courses with green surrounds that are wildly different from the greens themselves.  Sticky surrounds work with sticky greens; just throw the ball at the hole.  Bouncy surrounds work with bouncy greens; play the ground game.  But this is a nit-pick.  Pacifico is a fun course with a breathtaking backdrop.  You came to this post for the pics; here they are:

 

 

The famous "Tale of the Whale" hole.  The green is a natural island.  You can only play the hole at low tide.  I made it over, but missed the green, hit an indifferent chip and a weak putt and made bogey.

 

Would I have loved this course so much if it weren't right on the Pacific Ocean?  Probably not.  It was certainly fun, and I did notice that when I was in the wrong part of the fairway, my second shot was being punished.  But this would really be just another resort course if it were anywhere else.  The thing is... it's not anywhere else.  It's right on the Pacific Ocean.  And it's just stunning.

I tried posting the URLs to the photos in Google photos and it seemed to work well.  Looks like it only works for me when logged into the Goog as me.  I reposted them properly.

It's incredible. From the middle tees, it's about 185 to the middle, but it plays a little longer. All carry.
