Thoughts men’s senior pga

Just got back from watching a great event in Madison Wi (American Family Insurance Classic). In a way this tour reminds me fan friendly. And almost a ‘last chance’ opportunity seeing some of these older greats before leaving the game completely. It reminds me of an exit tour / exhibition than the grind of the regular tour  that they no longer compete in.Not very many events let fans walk inside the ropes in a practice round like these event had. A real hands on experience on what the pros are thinking.

Who else went to a senior event and felt like it was more relaxed than the regular tour?Do you still recognize this tour as competitive.Or more of a last chance seeing stars of the past before they retire for good

Keep it in the short stuff

Volunteered at an event a couple of years ago. Definitely still competitive but just doesn’t hold my interest. Not sure what is lacking but I never watch it on television or go to the event near me.

Agree. The course was setup pretty difficult. But for some reason the atmosphere itself was real blah.It was nice seeing these guys more relaxed laughing with the crowd and signing tons of autographs (even between shots).

I think they would have more success having a few random 36 hole exhibition events.Versus a whole tour schedule. Was a great time, but I won’t attend another one of these again

I’ve been to champions tour events but not in a long time. Of course they’re competitive but its not the same as the regular tour.

I went to several events back in the 80’s - that was more fun because it was a chance to see guys play whom I hadn’t - Sam Sneed for one.

I went to a senior tour event many years ago (Chi Chi was still playing then).  It was a more subdued experience than the PGA events I've attended.

Here in Missouri I’ve had the chance seeing both the regular tour and the champions. The senior events just never had the action the big tour has. Will go see the regular tour whenever I get the opportunity. I’m going to pass on the seniors

I went to the 2010 US Senior Open at Sahalee CC; watched Langer beat Freddie.  Yes, they are very competitive; Yes, they are more laid back.  Are they irrelevant? Maybe, but it was fun to watch very good golf without the big crowds.  The tournaments bring professional golf to smaller markets, and the communities benefit.  I'd go again.

The 2019 Sr. PGA Championship was in town last month.

I loved it.

It was fun to see players I grew up watching like Pavin and Lehman. It was far more low key than the PGA championship that will return in 2023.

Ticket costs are cheap and the course is a treat to walk. I’d go back in a second.

And to add one thing. It’s so low key in the sense that it’s almost like a social club. Darren Clarke and Jay Haas were playing one of the most sociable and relaxed rounds I’ve ever seen. A treat to the fans who want a close up to players who have previously been successful but weren’t granted access due to crowds.

I did watch the first round of this years US open. Those guys really ate it up.Im always amazed at the big separation of the top tier golfers in these events.Versus the ones at the bottom of the pack who need to get their games in better shape. The senior tour doesn’t have as much depth as the regular tour. Its usually a group of 20 guys that are always a there week in and out 0554FA2A-2EBE-4A14-9677-DE6FDDB7EEBD.thumb.jpeg.40c8fb54b3a303fb7d44aa4ae371b22f.jpeg0554FA2A-2EBE-4A14-9677-DE6FDDB7EEBD.thumb.jpeg.40c8fb54b3a303fb7d44aa4ae371b22f.jpeg8EFEF6BA-8CEA-473A-819F-625800ED3AB0.thumb.jpeg.05330a6f37243b22ea6dc8ac892396b0.jpeg
