J_L_35 Intro

 

I am a 33 year old Architect who lives about an hour from NYC. Been really getting back into the game the last few years and now I want to keep learning and gain as much knowledge about golf as I can.

 

My handicap is currently a 16.5 but hopefully that keeps improving along with my game with each round I get to play. The nice weather has been great to be able to go play, and I have been taking every advantage of it.

 

My average driver distance is around 220 yards but when I am striking it well I can be around 245. I have been upgrading my bag over the last year from the big box chain full set I have had for the last 15 years. Driver, 3W, Putter and Wedges have been replaced recently but I am just waiting for a fitting to get myself some new irons. I prefer my PW from anything within 100 yards all the way up to my 5i for 160-165. My new 3W can get me close to the green from 200 yards out.

 

Hopefully the SuperSpeed training will allow me to gain some effortless speed in my attempt to gain more consistency with my driver. Usually I am only hitting 4-5 fairways off the tee per round, but I can expect to hit around 6-7 greens per round.

 

Normally during this time in the year I am playing softball and getting my exercise outside, but it’s a bit different right now. I try and stay active around my house walking some trails or while we have been on pause here in NY, to get some golf walking which has built my stamina where I am not getting tired in the back half of the round.

 

My goal for the program is to be able to see close to 105 mph club head speed. Currently my driver is around 95 mph on average. Being able to swing faster will lead to more distance but I also need to maintain that speed with a consistent swing and hopefully that leads to more fairways.

 

First Impressions

SuperSpeed came and I was immediately excited to start the program. It was great that they also provided the PRGR portable launch monitor.

Red Club - 5% heavier than Driver

SuperSpeed uses overspeed training to try and break through and reset the roadblocks to extra speed! The gradual increases in speed allows the changes to become more permanent, and overtime permanent increase in club head speed.

 

I had heard a lot about these sticks, and the protocol and have always been curious to see how it could actually work. 

The first time seeing 100 on the launch monitor I was hooked. It only took a weeks worth of sessions to see results and I cannot wait for the upcoming weeks and faster speeds.

Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks

Hello fellow spies, first I’d like to thank MGS for another shot of being a tester, along with Superspeed.  Some of you may recall I was a tester for W/S C300’s and most recently the 410 driver, so I won’t spend a lot of detail on my background. However, it deserves mention that I am 73, and started playing golf when I retired, so as you can imagine I’m fast tracking to make up for lost time.

I typically play at our home course - Catawba Island Club and will play from either the 5,700 or 6,000 yd tee’s.  I found that I tend to play better when I’m with better players or when challenged with difficult situations. And I like to play fast!

I’ve taken lots of lessons, read a lot of golf books, and watched YouTube videos with favorites being TXG and Danny Maude. And yes, I have been fitted for my entire bag by one of the best independent fitters in Northern Ohio. Here’s my SS data from Trackman, May 1^st, 2019

 

My index has moved down on a continuous basis, but this is the year that it’ll take the big jump downward. With the new WHS, I started at 22.5 and after 13 rounds, I’m down to 20.7, with a goal of getting to 15 this year. The best and favorite part of the game is 100 yds in, So what’s it going to take? Continued work on putting and the short game will be important, continued focus on hitting the sweet spot as well, but most import will be more ‘greens in regulation’. My drives are reasonably accurate with left and right misses just off the fairway – no more shanks, slices or hooks for me!. A faster swing speed will greatly improve GIR.   

 

Initial impressions:

My initial exposure to SuperSpeed has been extremely positive and I’d rate it 10 out of 10. I’ve bought lots of golf stuff online, including clubs from Cobra, Ping, Callaway, as well as others. None came with the same SuperSpeed package presentation. I won’t bore you with the same pics that other testers have of clubs, etc.  The presentation is definitely a step up from the norm.  

 

 

My other positive comments come from the initial conference call with all of us by Kyle Shay,, the CEO of SuperSpeed. He took the time to not only explain the program but also gave us an opportunity to ask questions – very impressive. He set a new standard for MGS official testing.

The ‘Sticks’

The actual product – the ‘sticks’ I’d rate as 10 out of 10. I can’t think of an improvement I’d make. I use MCC+4 midsize grips, and before I received the sticks, I thought I might need to change out the grips. Not necessary. The grips felt fine – especially since I’m not concerned about ‘slippage’ and alignment.  SuperSpeed provides a recommendation based on your current driver and in my case, they recommended the senior set of Yellow, Green, Blue even though I was fitted for a regular shaft flex. You can see in the photos below that there is a nominal difference between the ‘blue stick’ and my driver both in length and weight.  Note: my driver shaft is cut down ½”.  

 

Since the ‘blue stick’ is supposed to be approximately 110% of driver weight, I’ll chalk up the difference to grip, which in my case (GP MCC +4 midsize) weights 73 grams – overall pretty spot on.

Using the ‘Sticks’

Obviously, the 2020 testers are just one week into this – which means we’ve only had three sessions. But after these three, I can tell you that this is not a simple " I’ll just hit these and get results". This is hard work that I’m confident will reap significant speed benefits.

Protocol 2 Wrap-Up September 25th. 

 

After 14 weeks working through the first and second protocol, the first thought that entered my mind as I was getting ready to write this review was "be careful what you ask for". I've been fortunate to have been selected to be an official tester for both the C300's in 2018 and the Ping 410 driver in 2019. Both of these testing opportunities have been great experiences and yielded positive results. At the same time neither required the level of commitment that SuperSpeed does; three days a week, rain or shine, cold weather or hot as blazes, feel good or not. And it's still not over as I plan on continuing well past protocol 2 until I get my speed up to high 80's and possibly 90. So, the big question is “does it get results”?

 END of STORY – SuperSpeed Works

Now I'm sure those speed levels seem boring to many of you. However, keep in mind I'm 73, which means I’m more likely to lose SS every year vs. gaining it. My driver was the most problematic club in my bag, both from a dispersion and distance perspective. I ended up pulling back on my swing speed to gain accuracy and for the most part that worked. A big problem with that was I rewired my brain to think slower swing speed. So here I am beginning protocol 1 at a driver speed of 76 mph. Note my driver issues aren’t completely solved as a few of you observed at our Northern Ohio outing. Now when it does go south I now know how to fix it. 

 General SuperSpeed positive observations:

I definitely had an increase in speed both with the SuperSpeed sticks and my driver. I'm a bit behind in implementing golf technology on the course so the only thing I have to go on is distance improvement compared to where I normally hit the ball on my home course. That improvement has been in the 10-15 yd range at the end of protocol 1.  I'm ending protocol 2 with a driver swing speed of 84 mph if you look at the PRGR monitor and slightly longer drives on the course.  Note I did have both my SC200 and PRGR monitor side by side on the driving range and while both were pretty close in terms of swing speed, the numbers were way different in both ball speed and smash factor with the PRGR monitor recording much lower numbers for the latter two..

 From a SuperSpeed stick perspective, here's a snapshot of increases from week 1 to week 14. Both dominant and non-dominant hand. It’s interesting to me that the non-dominant hand numbers have been fairly steady, The biggest increase in dominant hand has been in protocol 1, but protocol 2 had some outside factors which I believe impacted results: an unusually hot and humid summer,  plus selling our old home, buying and moving into a new home - all in the matter of three weeks. Lastly, not sure what’s going on with the blue stick since it’s not trending at the same rate.  

 

Other non-hardware positives: 

The level of interaction between the SuperSpeed staff and the testers has been surprisingly good and should be a best practice for other manufacturer's official testing.  Also, the pre-protocol warm-up exercises are well thought out. My wife who is participating in the testing along with me, not only uses these exercises before the protocols but also before she plays golf. 

 Negative observations:

There are none related to either the equipment or the protocols. Any negatives are relative to managing personal expectations and an issue with my driver. Those are more of a 'me' issue rather than SuperSpeed's. Even though I read the reviews from the 2018 group of testers, I had expectations that the improvements would be in a consistently higher linear progression vs the ups and downs that I experienced in protocol 2, that are clearly evident in the graph above. A non-SuperSpeed related issue, I have had problems with PRGR monitor. Not quite sure why it occasionally doesn't record swings, also ball speed and smash factor appear to be off when using it on the range. 

 Physical Product 20 out of 20 

Overall, the sticks look no different than when they arrived 14 weeks ago. The sticks look brand new, the grips are a bit worn but I expect that to happen and will probably replace them shortly. Definitely high-quality sticks and worth the cost.

 SuperSpeed Program 20 out of 20

 The warm-up exercises and protocols 1 & 2 are well thought out and have yielded results. The kneeling exercise is my least favorite, but, if it produces results, I’ll continue with it.

 Performance  36 out of 20

 As the charts point out, I’ve definitely increased my swing speed, however, I’m still baffled by the plateau. Maybe my brain is taking longer to rewire?

 Nothing more to comment here as the sticks and the protocols have achieved increases

Keep it or Re-gift it 10 out of 10

 Definitely keep them! I started out 2020 with a 22.5 Index, note: only once did I break 90 in 2019. This year I’m disappointed in each round that isn’t in the 80’s. As of the other day my Index is 18.7 with a low of 18. The decrease in my Index is mostly due to an increase in GIR. I’m reaching more greens because of my swing speed.

Introduction

 

My name is Mark, I’m 34 years old and I live in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. I have been a serious golfer going on 3 years now. I am an 18 handicapper and normally play around 30-40 rounds per year. During a normal everyday round and given the course, I like to play tee’s somewhere between 6000-6500 yards. On average, I carry my driver out to about 255 yards for about 270 yards total, and usually try to put myself in the range of a Sand to Pitching wedge out for a comfortable approach shot into the green (100-130 yards).

 

While I still have plenty of things I can work on in my golf game, one thing that bothers me the most has been my lack of speed and not getting a full turn or good rotation in my back swing. I fully believe that being a newer golfer, my main priority the last couple years has been to just learn to make good contact on the ball and in a way that came with a price of slowing my swing down. Now that I am a lot better at making contact, I’m ready to start getting those speeds back to where they need to be.

 

Currently, I have a playing swing speed of about 100 mph with a driver, I would love to see my swing speed get into the range of 110-112 mph. While gaining distance will absolutely be a plus, I’m mostly looking to gain the feel of having a pure smooth swing while still generating speeds above 100 mph, still maintaining accuracy.

 

 

 

First Impression

 

The first word that comes to mind when I received my super speed sticks was, impressive. First off, They came in a nice box and appeared to be packaged really well. The heads were wrapped in bubble wrap and each stick had its own individual slot so it couldn’t move.

 

While first handling the sticks, I thought they were really well constructed. The shafts themselves don’t seem flimsy or cheap. The heads look very well made and are attached really well and the grips seem to be run of the mil, but not super cheap by any means. Overall, they seem very sturdy and of good quality.

 

 

 

When talking with the folks from Super Speed Golf, I was fascinated with the explanation of how their product helps you gain speed over time. He explained that overtime, when you aren’t using a great deal of speed, your body restricts how fast it can move, much like putting a restrictor plate on a race car for all you race fans out there. It is said, that if you use this product the way it is designed that over the course of time, your body will neurologically adapt and become used to the faster speeds.

 

 

At the end of this 48-week test, all it would take for me to recommend this product is for it to help me gain more speed, even if it was as much as 5-6 mph. But, after only using this product only two days, I feel strongly that it will exceed those numbers.

 

After session one, my initial driver swing was 100 mph. After completion of the regiment, my driver swing speed was 111.

 

After session two, my initial driver speed was 101 mph. After the regiment, my swing speed was 119.

Introduction

I really appreciate the opportunity to participate in this program. Many thanks to MyGolfSpy and SuperSpeed!

My name is Blake. I am a 52-year-old living in Akron, OH. I would consider my fitness level to be slightly above average for my demographic, a little below average compared to everyone else. I could stand to lose 15 – 20 pounds (probably closer to 20 as a result of the lockdown and the associated snacking). According to Arccos, my handicap is currently 12.7 and trending down. I have no idea how this compares to the new rules, but I assume it is pretty close (the FAQ’s have not been updated). I typically aim for tees in the 6200-6300 yard range and will usually go shorter if they don’t exist, but will play out to 6500 when I feel like punishing myself. At the end of last season and so far this year, I haven’t hit my driver much as I currently lack any sort of confidence with it. When I combine data for my driver and 3W, I hit about 40% of fairways. Unfortunately, when I miss, it is a pretty even split between left and right (either dead pull or high, swipey fade). From 100 yards, my AW is the “go to” club. At 150 yards, I’m usually pulling an 8 iron, and at 200 yards, I will usually hit a 4H, maybe a 5 iron depending on conditions, layout, etc. My GIR’s average 25-30%. Sure, a lot of that has to do with my lack of accuracy off the tee, but I still miss too many greens when I have a good shot at them.

Before the COVID-19 shutdown, I went to the gym 2-3 times per week, doing a pretty even split of cardio and weight training. When I am not working from home, my job keeps me active, too. I usually accumulate around 7000 steps per day wandering from lab to lab. Working from home, it’s more like 3000 if I’m lucky. In my younger days, I was a long-ball player, but in the last 5 years, or so, age has caught up with me. Periodic back issues have led to decreased flexibility and poor swing habits (to avoid pain), which led to decreased distance. I’ve been working to improve my flexibility, but I still am nowhere near as “loose” as I used to be. I had a swing evaluation at GolfTec back in January, where they identified flaws that may have been contributing to my back issues. Those flaws were also restricting my turn, potentially decreasing my speed/distance further.

Although I have drills I can work on at home, with no ranges open near me (as of the time of posting our intro's), it is difficult to work on the swing changes I am trying to implement. I have been able to play 54 holes of golf in the last couple weeks and have been working on my swing on the course. So far, the results have been generally favorable in terms of accuracy (I’ve only lost two balls during that time, which is unheard of for me), but I want more distance, which means I need more speed. Enter the SuperSpeed program!

I had been looking at SuperSpeed since the last test, which showed great results, but had yet to pull the trigger on purchasing the sticks. I was very grateful to have been picked to run through this program for the forum. Having you guys reading helps hold me accountable to doing my best to stick with the program as designed. I am under no delusion that I will gain back all the lost speed/distance, but my goal for this program is to get my average swing speed to around 110 mph. I feel this is a realistic goal as my first session with the monitor SuperSpeed graciously sent showed a 96 mph (low of 93, high of 102). The average SuperSpeed user sees an 8.5% increase. I will need about a 12% gain to reach my goal. With my current conditioning (or lack thereof) and a not fully implemented and automatic swing change, I feel like an above average result is within reach, but only time will tell. The increased speed could potentially help me in two ways: 1) increased distance so I have shorter shots into the greens, improving my GIR’s; or 2) allow me to feel like I am backing off, staying more in control while maintaining speed to improve accuracy, leading to more FIR’s for a better opportunity at GIR’s.

First Impressions

As Joe mentioned, SuperSpeed held a very informative Zoom call for all the testers. It was nice to hear the background information and get a good sense of what the expectations were. Although the final reviews have a definite due date, we are strongly encouraged to follow through with the entire program to the best of our abilities. Although I have every intention of completing the entire program and getting into the maintenance phase, my biggest issue will be how to handle bad weather, especially when winter hits. I do not have the head room in my garage or basement to take full swings with a club that is the length of a 3W, so I must go outside. I am not thrilled with the idea of training in 10-degree weather with snow on the ground, but I will if I have to, all in the name of science!

All the packaging appears clear and professional, in my mind, and the sticks themselves are of very high quality. The graphics are clean, the labelling is clear, and the tour velvet-esque grips are comfortable. The shipping box secures the sticks very well, so there is very little chance of them rattling around. The addition of shrink-wrap to the grips and bubble wrap to the heads is a nice touch to contribute to completely unmarked items upon receipt.

I followed the last SuperSpeed test with great interest as I wanted to see if the claims were real. From that thread and what I’ve seen around the internet, I know the system works. But like anything else, how well it works for me is totally dependent on the effort I put into the training. The product we are reviewing is more than just the sticks that UPS dropped off – in my mind the protocol is just as important, if not more so. As long as I follow the program, I see no reason why the product would not receive a positive grade from me.

Finally, just because I promised to do so, here is a video of a left-handed swing. It’s not pretty, but I don’t think it looks as bad as it feels.

SuperSpeed Training System - Final/Week 14 Review (Added 9/3/20)

I wrapped up the Level 2 Protocol a few weeks ago and have begun the Level 3, which adds a 4^th repetition to every swing type and replaces the step-change with a double-step swing. I will also be adding some of the Advanced Speed Protocols (which are intended to replace one regular session per week) to address a couple issues (related to rotation and creating lag).

If you recall, I ended Level 1 poorly – on the last day (which is the one that counts for the purposes of our reporting) I had the absolute slowest “after” swings since the start, so my Level 1 increase was skewed low (102 mph starting speed, 107 mph ending speed). Ultimately, the size of each jump does not matter to me, it's the overall increase.

After some discussion, I believe I hit the second jump near the end of Level 2 even though it is typically not expected until Level 3. In total, through the first two levels, I saw an increase in my maximum driver swing speed of 18 mph, which amounts to a 17.6% increase in driver speed!!!

In order to keep things in perspective when it comes to grading, the training system is about one thing only….SPEED. There are no promises to improve anything but your speed, so even though there may be issues that are a byproduct of the training, I believe they are outside the scope of our review.

With that in mind, here are my grades....

Physical Product (20 out of 20):

As outlined in my introduction, the build quality and appearance are quite good for what the product is (a weight on a stick). So far, I see nothing to suggest there will be any issues with the long-term durability of the product, even after some inadvertent contact with my deck. Oops. The grips continue to provide good grip, even though my hands sweat a lot, especially on the hot, humid days (I rotate through 5 gloves for my left hand and keep a rain glove on my right).

Program (20 out of 20):

In my mind, the physical product is not what we are reviewing, rather it is the program – anyone can mount some weights on a shaft to reproduce a version of the product. I'm sure the swing weights, flex, etc. are important, but I believe the secret sauce is in the program. The instructions are easy to follow and the engagement and assistance of SuperSpeed throughout the program has been amazing (in the thread itself and through private channels). Their willingness to help with whatever issues we face has been phenomenal. It appears they treat every customer in this way, not just the handful of us who were chosen as official reviewers. In my opinion, their help has likely accelerated my gains by not forcing me to troubleshoot issues on my own.

When I am on a plateau (or declining somewhat), it was occasionally difficult to motivate to do the workouts, especially when the it was hot and humid. As speeds are climbing, I find it easy to motivate to see what I can do next. Ultimately, the habits are now ingrained, and I know it is a benefit to do the protocols even when I’m not “feeling it”. Just like any workout routine, this one requires commitment to achieve results, so please don’t think this is something you can do a few times and see long-lasting results.

Based on my experience so far, I have every intention of continuing the program.

Performance (38 out of 40):

In my intro, I outlined my typical workout regimen. Because of the pandemic, I have not been to the gym since early March. Even though the gym has reopened, I am not terribly comfortable returning yet, so SuperSpeed has essentially replaced the gym for me. Eventually, I plan to supplement SuperSpeed with visits to the gym on alternating days. I have also detailed numerous times the unexpected benefit I have observed in the relief I have seen in my lower back. If you currently have no specific workout routine, it seems to me SuperSpeed provides a perfectly adequate workout on its own, but I could imagine that incorporating it into existing routines would be an easy thing to do, with benefits in overall health as long as one does not attempt to overdo it.

From a performance perspective, the results have been better than I could have imagined. My starting swing speed was 102 mph max (96 mph average, 93 mph min). As of the end of Level 2, my max was 120 mph with an average of 117 mph and a 116-mph min. That makes the max increase 18 mph and average increase 21 mph!!!!  Here is a chart showing my max driver speed (before and after each session) since I started:

Because of the peaks and valleys adding noise to the raw data (dots), I have also added a 5-session moving average to better see the trends (lines).

How does that translate to the course? In my week 6 summary, I posted my driver stats from Arccos. Here they are again, with an added image for driver data during Level 2 training.

First, here is my driver data prior to starting SuperSpeed:

Recall from my intro that I did not hit driver a ton, because I was lacking confidence, so this data is not a lot of shots (~40-50), but enough that I trust the data.

Next are the driver stats filtered to just the rounds during Level 1:

While the Level 2 data are essentially the same as Level 1, both are a substantial increase over my performance prior to the program, easily translating to at least 1 club less into greens and more like 3 or 4 on a good, solid drive. I believe Level 2 is so close to Level 1 because I am in the process of incorporating a change to my swing. Based on some videos I posted, SuperSpeed suggested I try to increase the speed of my backswing to get more total speed. It has worked, but getting a reliable, repeatable swing with good contact on the course has been an occasional struggle, even to the point of causing me to slow down the backswing while on the course to gain some control. This will be a work in progress for me, but it seems my overall tempo improves with the quicker backswing, so it’s just a matter of sorting it out.

If you compare my best drives to tables available on the internet, you see I am in the ballpark for expected distance for my swing speed on a good drive, so I need to work on improving contact (driver swing speed is across the top of the table):

Being a 52-year-old, the thought of potentially reaching out to 300 yards under the right conditions excites me and drives me to get even faster.

I was originally tempted to dock the performance a few more points because there have been some well-documented issues with ball-striking. Ultimately, I chose not to because we knew it was a possibility we would encounter these issues. Besides, the program promises speed, not solid contact. If you are on the fence about this program, I believe you should consider what you want out of your golf game – if you want to play in any kind of competitive environment and feel you need more distance to compete effectively, I would strongly recommend doing the SuperSpeed program under the supervision of a swing coach so you are able to more quickly adjust as these issues arise. If you are like me and just play for fun but want to increase distance (whether you have lost distance or never had it) and are willing/able to tinker, then this program will be great for you. It absolutely works if you are willing to put in the effort. With that being said, I have to admit there were a couple times this summer that I felt like SuperSpeed may not be for this average golfer without a coach (or the self-awareness to know what went wrong), as the ball-striking issues seemed insurmountable for someone of my skills and abilities at times. Just then, I would catch a few drives as well as I could, be left with a shorter club than I ever thought possible, and curse myself for trying to be a quitter. Now that I have overcome these issues a couple times, I know they are temporary and I will eventually get through them, but it is a little disconcerting as you experience them, thus the slight point reduction.

It has also been noted by a few testers that were fit for their current driver that their specs have changed with the increased speed. This is not entirely unexpected, but it should also be considered if you are interested in the program, especially if you just got fit for the latest and greatest driver and spent money on a shaft upgrade. Understand your specs will likely change as you progress. If you have a money tree in your back yard, this is no big deal. If you are like me and have two kids in college resulting in less disposable income, it is something to consider. I’d love to get better performance from well-fitting equipment, but the tight-wad in me is mostly satisfied with the performance from my current driver even though I know it is nowhere near optimized.

As for my scoring, my Arccos handicap has dropped slightly, from a 12.7 to an 11.5 (according to the pre-update calculation method, the new method has me at a 12.8, but I don't know the starting point). My biggest struggle continues to be accuracy off the tee. Increasing my speed did not fix my pre-existing accuracy issues, unfortunately. If/when I start hitting more fairways (or at least have smaller misses), I have no doubt the increased distance will lead to better scoring just by virtue of having shorter clubs into the greens.

I’ve mentioned other times that I have to do the workouts outside. This leads to my only real concern with the long-term viability of me doing this program: can I sustain it through northeast Ohio winters? If it’s just cold out, I can bundle up and do the workout, but with snow on the ground there is not much I can do. We’ll cross that bridge when the time comes, but I hope I don’t end up with an extended break requiring me to start over in the spring.

I mentioned earlier and if you have been following this thread at all, you know the engagement from the SuperSpeed team has been outstanding. Their assistance and recommendations both in the thread and privately have been crucial to my success thus far.

Conclusion:

TL;DR – The SuperSpeed program works. In fact, it has done more than it advertises for me. The average user can expect about an 8.5% total speed increase after the second jump. I have experienced more than double that – 17.6% from 102 mph to 120 mph. I had no doubts from the beginning that the program worked as I have seen the data and other reviews. SuperSpeed promises speed, but if it does not translate to the course, it is of little value. I was expecting to be in more trouble with increased distance (think of extending a dispersion cone 10, 20, or 30 yards). Looking at Arccos data, my average dispersion has remained at a stout 24 yards throughout the training. Since the average distance has increased, the angle of my dispersion cone has shrunk a bit. I suspect that has more to do with the fact that I’ve worked on my driver more this summer than usual. In addition to the speed increases I have seen, there has been the following benefits:

1)     My lower back is mostly pain-free for the first time in years. Your mileage may vary.

2)     The interaction with SuperSpeed and others in this thread have helped me improve my self-diagnosis when things go sideways (sometimes literally). There are still times I haven’t the foggiest idea what happened, but I have a better understanding of my swing and some of the cause/effect issues.

In order to maximize my potential with this program, I see two items on my “To-Do” list: 1) I need to devote more time to practice to improve center contact and efficiency; and 2) Once I plateau, it would be a great time to spend the money on lessons and/or a driver fitting to optimize my launch.

FINAL SCORE (98 out of 100):

I almost feel dirty giving SuperSpeed a nearly perfect score – in my mind, nothing is perfect, but if I limit my grading to only the product/program, the intended goals (speed and nothing but speed), and taking into consideration the unanticipated benefits I have seen, I can find no issues worthy of taking more points away. It did exactly what it was supposed to, and then some. Hell, I even re-read all the 2018 reviews to see if there was some aspect I was missing – I don’t think there are any. Seriously, I wanted to take points, I just can’t find them.

Introduction for Superspeed 2020

Since it has been a few years since my last introduction from the Ping i210 review I will do a new and refreshed.
My name is Jamie Danbrook and I work as a Ice Technician for Curling facilities and events. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to travel all around the world and will be relocating to Europe basically as soon as COVID-19 lets up. 

As for me and golf, my father and I played a local 9 hole par 3 course where golf and breakfast was $7 and held some of my favorite golfing memories. I always enjoyed golf and played every now and then, however it wasn’t until I moved to St. John’s NL the second time that I really started to play more. My roommates golfed and worked at a local course and I picked up a membership there. I upgraded my set piece by piece and the bug hit. A year later I relocated to Halifax Nova Scotia and it was around then when I first found out about MGS. It was an article about the Cobra Amp Cell pro irons that encouraged a silly purchase in these clubs as they were just stunning and I figured I may be able to play my game into making them work for me.

Not so slowly golf started to consume my life and the equipment side of things particularly interested me. Now there are very few MGS articles I don’t read and anywhere I travel and can bring my clubs I do!

MGS has also become a larger part of life as I’ve been extremely fortunate to take part in 2 years previously and play with @nunfa0 in NZ twice and look forward to hopefully playing with more of you in the future! It is an amazing community and I am very thankful to be a part of!

A little about my game is I feel I am a pretty solid player. My handicap hovers around a 10 and my weakest part is easily off the tee. The i210 have helped my game immensely and the more I use the Stroke Lab the more I like it! My swing speed hovers around 100 and most launch monitors I’ve been on read ball speed more accurately.

I am really looking forward to hopefully getting some more speed which I hope will help my game off the tee. I’ll also link the i210 review as it has a lot of iron numbers and should help give another good recap of anything more you may want to dive into.

SuperSpeed Golf Review: Jamie Danbrook September 24, 2020

Welcome all to my review of the @SuperSpeed Golf Golf program and sticks. Let me start by saying it has been an adventure! Lots of highs and lows and just a great journey at which I am looking forward to following for several more months to come. Hopefully that is not too much of a lead in to whats to come. 

I want to start my review by of course thanking both MGS and SuperSpeed golf for their trust and support in this review and process. I have been very fortunate to do a couple reviews in the past and hands down this was not only the hardest, but probably the most fun as well.

I also want to include that during the time of COVID and everything else going on in life it made it a proper challenge and I am proud of the results that happened through my first 2 stages of the program.

Finally a few quick notes of some things that happened in my life during this time outside of COVID, but a lot in part because of it.
- I had a initial delay with shipping because I lived in Canada and well the package got lost and SuperSpeed was kind enough to ship out a second set to me on the OTHER side of the country because my partner and I decided to drive across the country and back to see family before we left and moved to Switzerland. Total trip was 13,500 km with 3 dogs in the car and well not enough time and very little sleep.
- SuperSpeed sticks were the first item packed for the move along with my golf clubs as I made the move to Europe and after visa delays and a whole lot of other things I am finally settled and have even thankfully got some golf in since moving here. By the way, for those wondering mega expensive sport to play here!
- Finally long days and just overall stress I feel had a greater results on speeds then initially thought, which I will dive into later in the review.

Physical Product (18 out of 20 points) 

When it comes to the physical product of SuperSpeed there is very little to not like. It looks sharp, grips are good, coloring makes sense and the overall build quality is top notch. Very little to fault here at all and I think they have an overall great looking product that catches the eye for many who have seen them either in my bag or at the house.

Now I honestly don’t know how feasible this would be, but admittedly the graphics on the shaft aren’t my favorite however it really is not a big deal and by no means a deal breaker however! What I would love to see maybe in the future just like many other products in golf is a custom fitting process. This being more design like Callaway and Taylormade where you can potentially pick from some shaft designs and grips. Is this getting too picky? Would love to hear your thoughts, but think this is a product that if you do purchase you will likely hold onto for a long time, so the potential for customizing it would be a great added selling point for me.

I also would add the packaging it comes in is nice, not big bulky and unnecessary, but clean and is well representative of the product. Everything you need and nothing you don’t.

Program (20 out of 20 points)

The program may be the biggest part of SuperSpeed and where we spend the most time in this review.

A few things to consider first, this program is long and can be tiring and even sometimes a challenge to fit in with your day to day life, but is 100% possible and when built into a normal day is just good exercise and practice. When results are showing progress it is very easy to stay motivated and want to keep progressing. That being said when results slow or plateau it can be a little more difficult, however when you hit a massive drive or even just a solid one that goes significantly further then your normal and leaves you a club or two less into a green it can spark all that up again. Many of these plateaus and struggles have been well documented in the forum as well by various reviewers. For me wanting to get those gains was clear motivation enough. I made sure to make times during days and at times there were struggles either with weather or stress, but it gave something to look forward to.

The first 6 weeks are a great intro to the program and the first off hand swings are weird no doubt, but I found them easier and easier as it went on and they may have been some of my most proud swings when cracking 110 or more, it felt good and then seeing progress with driver numbers just validated all the work.

Weeks 7-12 have been more of a grind. I have found the kneeling swings tough and my rotation is not nearly as good as I had hoped and there are some days I dread doing them, but much of the same. When I see those results it makes me feel so much better. Side note, try and find a pad or something for your knees (I used a yoga mat folded up a few times which seemed to work well!)

The instructions are very clear and easy to understand. SuperSpeed has a ton of youtube videos that address several issues you may come across with what you should be doing or answer any questions you may have. Added to that SuperSpeed itself is on MGS and has been great to respond to the thread with in depth answers to everyone's questions. That alone is worth a lot!

The plan itself and program as stated before is long in total duration, however on day basis is not that demanding. I would argue the setup and stretching often takes longer than the routine itself. I am not old by any means (32) but will admit my body is aging and feeling more sore and worn than even a couple years ago therefore the stretching is very important to me and something I highly recommend taking the extra time to do. As well as it is highly recommended by SuperSpeed itself in their videos, articles and more as to lower any risk of injury. 

I am fortunate where I live now where I have a backyard and space to do the protocols as well I have been told that winters are not too cold here so I plan on continuing the protocols throughout the “offseason” and look to make some equipment changes next year. Whether it is reshafting or new clubs this may be my good excuse to replace some seemingly perfectly good clubs hehe

Another well documented point in the forum is how all the different factors in life can affect your day to day results. It is recommended to do the program 3 times a week and that trying to push faster or include more per week does not necessarily show quicker results. The body needs time to heal and there will be ups and downs. Sometimes just waking up a little later in the day or having not the greatest meal can throw some results. Its best to take the numbers in stride and look at overall rather then get hung up over one less then stellar session. 

One big recommendation is to ensure you have some sort of device to read the swings. Whether it be the SwingRadar which I used or the PRGR which I got later, both I feel are a requirement to the program and should be considered when purchasing. It is very difficult to know your gains when you do not have any hard evidence, which these give you. I will go a bit more into detail about these two in the Misc Section. 

Performance (32 out of 40 points)

I have to say I have a hard time grading this, the performance speed wise no question is there. I have gained several MPH and not only feel faster, but also more balanced and stronger so based on that alone it would be a perfect score.

Where I get a little murky is I haven’t been able to play as much golf as I’ve wanted and when I have the lack of play rust is there and my inconsistencies on the course I feel have more to do with that then SuperSpeed. I haven’t really lost my iron play or had trouble hitting the face or striking the ball. My driver is still inconsistent and a little wild. I again certainly feel faster and am longer so in that sense it has been great, but I want more time on the course to see the overall effect. This is a score that I will put a * beside because it is likely to increase upon completion of more actual golf. 

*SIDE NOTE* I have found a course to join here and they are open all year so I will be following up with updates as to how it has come with on course play.
Therefore in practice perfect as I said, in actuality it is an incomplete. In a small sample size great, no question I am hitting it further, but I want some more on course data.

Here are some charts below with all my progress throughout the 12 weeks and the ups and the downs. Results speak for themselves and without a doubt I have gained speed, but I haven’t quite seen that second jump yet, be sure I will be shouting from the roof tops when I do though!

As you can see I was a bit up and down and had a bad week here and there, but the overall increase was great. I have yet to see the second big jump, but hope that it will come sometime in next few weeks and if not I will continue to plus along and see that I at the very least will maintain this new found speed for a long time to come.

Non Dominant swings are fun, challenge yes, funny at first for sure, inconsistent maybe even more so, but really fun to do and I believe are a great benefit to my golf game overall. As you can see the results are a bit all over. I found I was always fastest when I was loose and felt more flexible. If I was at all stiff or sore I knew I was in for a longer day. 

This may have been the most interesting for me. I didn't actually realize that my Red sticks were decrease on trend, maybe it was because I had a few good days with them or maybe because I had a couple slow sessions, but felt it was more similar or a small increase from the beginning. These numbers are ones I will pay a little closer attention to as I continue further along in the protocols. 

Miscellaneous (8 out of 10 points)

Some of this has already been addressed in the above comments, but I would have to say overall great and SuperSpeed is a top notch company that has a program and product that works. It has showed through several of our testers and my results. The product is clean, no big flair but intriguing and something I have been asked about a lot. Included in that is something that I really enjoy talking about and explaining to people.

I have been very lucky to use both the swing radar and the PRGR launch monitor and they both work very well. PRGR takes a bit more time to set up, but both provide very similar readings and once you know how where to setup give consistent results. The benefit to the PRGR is you are able to get some ball speed numbers if you are on a range. Both work and again I feel are a necessity to the program in order to make it the most effective possible. 

Yes, again I would love to see some custom fitting options (mid size grips would be lovely and sorry if that was an option I missed), but do that really matter for the program? No, it really doesn’t. The product again is well built and solid overall. The flexes are good too, feel good and firm and no a ton of whip in them. It just smartly put together and make for some nice photos too!

SuperSpeed as a company are amazing to deal with and really care about the product and results you achieve. I think that this is very important especially since the customer is dedicating so much time to it and should be considered when buying these that you will have great support throughout the protocols. 

Keep it or Re-Gift? (10 out of 10 points)

I think it is a bit of a given, but I will be keeping this and continuing my journey to faster swing speeds. It is also very simple, it works and the results speak for themselves. I will continue this for the off season and hope that it helps with some of my flexibility and would encourage any golfer to consider purchasing these. It works, helps with coordination and although can be tough work sometimes it is a great product and program and will help many others improve their distance.

Any golfer can realistically use these, from kids to elderly golfers. All swing speeds and so much more, SuperSpeed has a great product that is built for todays game and will benefit any golfer who is willing to put the work in.

Conclusion- Superspeed golf has been a great benefit to me and although I haven't played as much as I would have liked to with life being a bit on the chaotic side, it has helped keep me focused on a goal and has without a doubt helped me gain some speed. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to gain speed or even anyone who wants to have some improvement in golf as I believe non dominant swings are a great help. The program is hard work and dedication should be considered when purchasing along with the PRGR monitor or Swing Radar, but there is a reason why this is one of the best training aids out there. Simply put it works and has not only a great build quality, but fantastic customer service and support along with a great community who already uses this.

TLDR: SuperSpeed is a fantastic program and product that will give you speed gains if you are willing to put the time and the effort in. It can be hard work sometimes, but the payoffs are great. It is a product that I had great success with and will be keeping for the long term! With the addition of the Swing Radar or PRGR your results will be much more clear and should be purchased with the SuperSpeed Sticks.

May 11th - Introduction & Initial Impressions

My name is Joe, I turn 36 in June and I am from New Jersey.  At the end of 2019 my handicap was around 3.9

My typical well-struck driver carries around 275 yards and I max out around 280 yards carry.  I typically play courses around 6600 - 6900 yards long.  For the most part, this leaves me with 150 yards or less into the green on most Par 4s.  My gamer is a Ping G410 Plus with a Nemesys 65x playing at 45”.

This offseason, I have really worked on my swing with the Tour Striker Planemate and I was getting lessons prior to the pandemic.  In my limited rounds this year, I have seen my accuracy increase, averaging around 50% fairways and greens in regulation.

My current fitness level is above average.  Before the pandemic, I would have said it was probably an 8.5 out of 10, but right now I am probably closer to a 7 since I haven’t been able to go to the gym in two months and I struggle to work out at home.  When I do work out at home, it consists of interval training and yoga.  The gym I belong to is a Bootcamp-style gym and is a great mix of cardio and strength training.  I am really looking forward to being able to get back there soon.

While I was working out and playing golf, my swing speed was around 111, but it has since decreased to around 109-110 due to the pandemic.  My goal with SuperSpeed is to get the 5% gain on top of my pre-pandemic speed  - so really hoping to see max driver speed numbers of around 118, and comfortably swinging at 115-116.

Getting my swing speed up will turn my already above-average distance into a true weapon.  Right now I am longer than almost everybody I regularly play with, but getting another 10+ yards of carry distance off the tee would take my game to another level.

I am not just looking to see that distance help off the tee, but also with my irons and wedges.  Being able to hit short irons and wedges into most Par 4s would really help my GIR stats and should help lower my scoring.

BEFORE SuperSpeed 5 Driver Swing Speed Average: 109 MPH

First Impressions

When my SuperSpeed package came, I could not wait to open it and get started.  Props to SuperSpeed for including a mini-launch monitor for us testers to be able to capture swing speed, ball speed and estimated carry distance. Just a reminder to everyone reading, this is NOT a review of the launch monitor - the LM is simply a tool for us to track SuperSpeed progress.  I will not be using this review to comment on the accuracy or functionality of the PRGR Launch Monitor that SuperSpeed has included.

The SuperSpeed Packaging was very sturdy and the sticks were secured in place within the box and they were bubble wrapped just in case they shook loose.  This product was better protected than some clubs I have received!  The grips are nothing fancy - just a generic standard size Tour Velvet-ish grip which should cause no issues.  I am sure if someone wanted to regrip the system with their personal grips they would have no issues as the butt diameter of the sticks seem to be just like any other driver shaft.

We had the pleasure of participating in a kick-off conference call from the fine folks at SuperSpeed.  On the call, we learned about the science behind the sticks, the protocols, and what we could expect to see during our testing. We had a nice Q&A at the end to make sure we had any questions about the product and protocols were answered and we had a full understanding of what was expected of us throughout our journey.

I was very excited when I was chosen as a tester for SuperSpeed.  Having followed along with the original thread, I knew it was a product I wanted to try.  I can’t even count the number of times it was in my cart online to buy before I ultimately decided against it.  With the pandemic causing limited course and no Gym time due to social distancing restrictions, I knew it was the perfect time to dive into SuperSpeed, and thankfully I was chosen as a tester.  

As I mentioned above, my goal is to turn my already above-average seed into a true weapon.  I want to see every bit of the 5% gains that SuperSpeed has promised.

Our official SuperSpeed testing protocol starts today and I look forward to sharing progress on the thread as testing progresses.  You won’t have to wait for a final review to see results as we will all be sharing information as we go along and answering any and all questions thrown at us.

September 9th - Final Review

The time has come to summarize my experience through the first two stages of the SuperSpeed training.  There were peaks, there were valleys.  There was soreness, there was exhaustion.  And there was a hell of a lot of sweat.

Physical Product (19 out of 20 points) 

The physical SuperSpeed product is extremely high quality. I experienced no issues with paint peeling/scratching or grips degrading during my months of testing. The one thing that would have given the product a perfect score would have been some sort of small carrying bag for the speed sticks.

Program (20 out of 20 points)

The program itself was about as clear and concise as you could get.  The protocol videos were super easy to follow along with and understand and the tracking spreadsheet was very intuitive.  While the full program might seem long, there is science behind it.  Sure, you might see speed gains right away, but if you do not continue through the length of the program, those speed gains would not be sustainable.

The SuperSpeed team’s engagement of the testing group was fantastic.  The video conference call at the beginning of testing was extremely beneficial and the team was quick to answer questions and provide feedback in both the thread and through email.

The plateaus throughout the program were definitely frustrating and there were times during the plateaus that it was a bit harder to self-motivate to do the protocols, but the encouragement from the SuperSpeed team and fellow testers (and others in the forum that were doing the program on their own!) was enough to keep me pushing through.  

The other thing I love about the SuperSpeed program is how they provide “advanced protocols” so that we can adapt our workouts to break through plateaus.  That level of flexibility to accommodate golfers that might already be close to their current maximum swing speed is fantastic.

Performance (40 out of 40 points)

I have been working at a gym and doing group personal training classes for the last 3+ years, but I can unequivocally say that the SuperSpeed training has yielded the best results.  This isn’t some sort of gimmick that only works for some people.  This is a scientific approach to taking the governor off your swing.  This approach is used by athletes in all types of athletic realms and now us golfers have a program that can benefit us.

Based on my experience I believe the SuperSpeed program can be used alone, or in combination with your normal workouts.  I would caution that if you are combining the SuperSpeed program with other workouts, to alternate days you do the workouts.  The SuperSpeed program IS a workout by itself.  If you are doing the protocols correctly, you will sweat, you will be tired, and you might be sore afterwards!  There were a few days where I tried to do the protocol after my 10+ mile bike ride and I didn’t see the speeds I would see if I had done the protocols while fresh.

So really, what everyone wants to know is does the program work?  Are the speed gains real!?!

The answer is a resounding YES!

My driver swing speed at the beginning of the protocol was 109mph.  At the end of Protocol 2, I took five driver swings.  They read 117, 118, 117, 117, 117

That means that at the end of Protocol Two, I had increased my driver swing speed by 8mph (7.3%).  That is a huge increase in speed, especially since I started at such a high number already.

Well how does this new-found speed translate to the course?  To be honest, at first it was a disaster.  Early in the program, it threw my sequencing off on the course and I was hitting big blocks to the right with nearly every club.  I was extremely frustrated and mentioned so in the thread.  The SuperSpeed guys were quick to reply and encouraged me to stick with the program as the body needed time to adjust to my new speed and the sequencing would eventually improve.  Thankfully, the guys were right and by the end of Protocol 1 my sequencing leveled off and I returned to my normal dispersion patterns. 

The distance gains on the course are apparent as well.  As of today, I am seeing about 15 yards gains off the tee and about half club gains with my irons.  Those gains are phenomenal for me.  Carrying drives over 280 would have been unthinkable prior to this program.  Now I do it a couple of times a round!  300 yard drives used to happen once every three rounds or so.  Now I am seeing 2 to 3 300+ yards drives per round!

My overall game has gotten better because of it.  We all know, through strokes gained data, that adding distance is one of the main drivers in becoming a better player.  I have only had one round in the 80s over the past 3 months, with most of my rounds sitting in the mid 70s. 

I absolutely intend to keep up with this program over the years.  I may not do it as much during the actual golf season, but I can absolutely see it becoming part of my offseason program every year as I gear up for the season to start in the spring. 

Miscellaneous (10 out of 10 points)

My brother-in-law is a former assistant pro that plays to scratch.  We have always hit the ball the same distances and he tended to always be a bit longer than me off the tee.  We played together on Saturday and we were making little side bets throughout the round.  The one bet he never made and refused to accept?  Long drive.  I was out-driving him by 15-20 yards all day and it was visibly annoying him.  All I could do was smile.  That feeling alone is worth 10 out of 10 points

 

Keep it or Re-Gift? (10 out of 10 points)

If you read the rest of my review, you would know by now that I am keeping the SuperSpeed training system.  As I mentioned above, I will be using it as part of my offseason training program to make sure I am firing at 100% coming out of the winter.

Conclusion

SuperSpeed works. Period.  The great part about this test is there isn't any gray area.  Your swing speed increases or it doesn’t.   If a guy like me, who was already swinging at 109mph can increase my swing speed to 117mph, then imagine what a slower swinger could gain.  Hell, you don’t have to imagine!  Look at what some of my fellow testers have gained.  The results are incredible and absolutely speak for themselves.

SuperSpeed Training System – Official MGS Forum Review by ChasingScratch

Intro

Hey fellow Spies!  ChasingScratch here with another review.  I’m beyond blessed to have been selected again and I am very appreciative.  I’m a 5’8”, 157lb, almost 34yrs old husband, father of two young kids (4.5 and 6yrs old), tenured college professor, and a golf fanatic.  While I don’t get to play very often, I do have a lofty goal of one day being a scratch golfer.

I would be lying if I said I had an honest clue as to my current handicap (I’ve only played twice this year), but last year I was hovering between 4-5.  I love to hit the driver as far as I physically can, and it is typically a great weapon of mine.  When I’m hitting it out of the middle of the clubface, 300yd drives are commonplace. I hit a full 58* wedge from 100yds, either PW or a 9iron from 150yds (depending on how hard I want to hit it), and a 6iron from 200yds.  For my club specs, check my signature.

Fairway accuracy is an interesting discussion.  With my strategy coach, fairways are not all that important.  I’d rather be 100yds away with a lob wedge from the rough than 150yds away from the middle of the fairway (granted I’m not playing in U.S. Open rough conditions either).  I hit anywhere from 50-60% of fairways in a round and 60% of greens (but I do have some rounds where the rails come off and I only hit 30% of greens, usually do to long layoffs between playing and practicing).

My house is a fitness house.  I used to teach strength training at Texas A&M University when I was a grad student and my wife is a certified personal trainer.  We built our own garage gym and we recently purchased a very basic rowing machine.

I lift weights 3x’s per week (Monday is Chest, Wednesday is Legs and biceps/triceps, Friday is back and shoulders) and I try to row 6 days per week (less time on weightlifting days, more on non-lifting days).  I started powerlifting in my late 20’s and continued into the earliest of my 30’s and was quite strong for my size (e.g., I pulled a 425lb deadlift at 165lbs).  I have since stopped the powerlifting because I got tired of eating 3,500 calories a day and my joints said it was time to call it quits.

One of the questions I had for the SuperSpeed crew was how much someone who is already a fast swinger of the club can expect from this program?  Should I still expect to see an 8.5% speed increase (even though I personally feel I don’t have much more to go)?  Emphatically “yes” was the answer.  The rationale is that most don’t do overspeed training in their golf practice.  We are talking about neuropathways in the brain, not muscle size.  Dendrites, Axons, Myelin sheaths, and all the other fun terms from my Kinesiology undergrad degree were used in our webinar with SuperSpeed.  Scientifically it is all sound.  Think about sprinters.  Have you ever seen them train with elastic slingshots around their waist?  Someone pulls them and they are forced to move faster than before (overload and adaptation).  This is the same concept here, albeit a little more golf specific.  We are trying to train our brains to move our bodies faster.

I would love to be able to consistently swing 120mph (with control, balance, and accuracy) and achieve 180mph ball speed.  This would put me at the same level as Rory McIlroy!  Obviously, it would give me an even bigger advantage off the tee than I already have.  Before staring the training program, I hit a max of 124mph with a dry driver swing.  My mode was 119mph.

First Impressions

Speed!  It’s all about speed at the end of the day.  Whether you are a PGA or LPGA Tour player looking to get an edge on the competition, or whether you just want bragging rights in your weekend foursome, hitting it long, for many, is the name of the modern game.  While some will say that genetics matter most in swing speed, one golf company is changing the scene.  Enter SuperSpeed.  This company promises that completing their training program will give users (on average, your results may vary) up to an 8.5% increase in their driver swing speed.  Sound too good to be true?  According to the SuperSpeed website, over 600 tour professionals are believers.

Shipping was fast, and the sticks are packaged/wrapped securely.  The customer service aspect of SuperSpeed’s operation is top-level.  They spent almost 1hr with us on a video conference, and I’ve sent no less than 5 emails to Kyle and gotten a response to all of them within a day or two. How many golf companies can state that?

I’ll admit that I have my doubts.  I am a college professor who must conduct research for my job.  Skepticism is built into my mindset from the start.  While I have no doubt that the science is sound, I just don’t know that I have as much in the tank as say a beginner or non-trained individual.  Time will tell. My fastest pre-test swing was 124mph (no ball).  According to the SuperSpeed, we should be able to swing the 20% lighter green stick 19% faster than our drivers.  For me, that would be 147mph.  To provide some perspective, that is how fast Professional Long Drivers swing their 48” drivers…  I am making a playlist on YouTube where you can watch my progress.

Grading

Right out of the gate I need to address something.  My experience with the SuperSpeed system was not like other testers’.  I had two substantial injuries that negatively affected my ability to go through the system in the ideal fashion.  First, my lower back injury set me out for a few weeks and currently I’ve been down for a few weeks with a broken toe.  Having said that, while I am not officially done with my modified Level 2 protocol, I have had enough time with the system to go ahead and post my official review.

Physical Product (20 out of 20 points)

It is kind of hard to mess up a golf shaft, grip, and metal weight on the end of it.  The physical product is actually quite simple in its design.  SuperSpeed spent a long time figuring out the extract weighting needed to get ideal gains from the program, but the sticks themselves are beautifully simple.  No fancy bells and whistles that can lead to premature failure or breakage.  A solid grip, shaft, and end weight is all you need.  At no point in the training did I ever worry about breaking the product.  I actually had a swing plane training system (that shall remain nameless) many years ago that almost broke my living room window.  Turns out the product missed the epoxy stage of the manufacturing process… yeah…  No fears with these sticks though.

Program (20 out of 20 points)

SuperSpeed does a phenomenal job of providing video demos of every single step of the program.  From the dynamic warmup to the double-step swings, it is clear what you need to be doing.  In short, you’d have to really try to not understand what you are supposed to be doing.  The performance tracking charts are great for motivation, and it is fun to update your records after each week of the training.  While some may feel as though it is a bit of a drag to stay motivated for 6-8 weeks per level of the program, I enjoyed it.  Having been a former athlete and one who understands the human body, I truly appreciate that SuperSpeed does not promise a quick fix.  They let you know from the start that this is a process.  Put in the work and see the results.  As with anything in life, things that are worthwhile take effort.  A word of caution for those who live in extreme climates (e.g., Texas summers or New York winters), there are days/weeks where weather will impact your training.  From 70% humidity and 97-degree temperatures to 36 and snowing, unless you have 10ft ceilings in your home, weather is an issue. 

Here is where I believe the SuperSpeed system shines above anything else I have ever encountered.  Kyle Shay goes above and beyond to respond to users’ questions and provide specific drills, tests, and modifications to the program to get the most benefit for each individual user.  This is top-notch and I cannot express just how valuable this one-on-one interaction was for me.  I was struggling with my speeds throughout the program.  For whatever reason, the PRG radar just wasn’t showing speeds that we were expecting.  I also had a massive slide in my downswing (to the front foot).  This is something I have always fought.  Kyle specifically worked with me to help cure this issue, and my overall golf swing has improved as a result!  He also gave me a modified Level 2 to address this specific issue.

I will say this; if you are not a self-motivated and driven person, this might be a program you struggle with.  6 weeks of Level 1 training and 8 weeks of Level 2 is a long time for some.  Given that many people will start lifting weights or running and quit after 1-3 weeks, the length of the program can be a challenge.  However, you cannot cheat science.

Performance (35 out of 40)

While I am not officially done with my Level 2 training yet (still healing my broken toe), I have experienced improvements in my clubhead speed.  Before starting the SuperSpeed system, I was a 118-119mph driver swing speed player.  Given that, I did not have high expectations for how much clubhead speed I could feasibly gain.  I have a good understanding of my body, have done power lifting and plyometric training, and understand kinesiology.  The point being, when you are at the tip of the iceberg for what your body can do, there just is not as much room to improve as someone who has only reached 70-80% of their body’s potential for speed. 

When I finished my Level 1 sessions, we didn’t really know where I was.  PRGR was wildly inconsistent for me.  The highest speed it recorded with Driver was 130mph (Week 1), and it would often read down in the 117-119mph range.  For whatever reason, it didn’t seem to like my swing.  Enter GC Quad with stickers on the clubface.  This is the ‘Gold Standard’ in club fitting and ball data.  I went to visit my club fitter and we found that after Level 1 I had bumped up to 123-124mph with driver.  That is a 4-5mph increase from where I was before starting SuperSpeed.  This may not be 8-9mph like other testers achieved, but when you are already at PGA Tour level swing speed, you will take any extra you can get!  Below is a table of the 10 best swings from the Level 1 post test:

I struggled with accuracy at first.  While I was swinging 123-124mph, I was not getting the benefits of the added speed.  I was hitting massive push fades off the planet with crazy backspin numbers.  The same was true in the few rounds I was able to play.  Wildly inconsistent contact on the face and terrible drives.  SuperSpeed acknowledges that this is expected at first, but that users do get control of their drivers after an acclimation period.  I found this to be true for me as well.  As a point of emphasis for future users, make sure you practice your real golf swing as you are doing the SuperSpeed system!!!  Given the COVID pandemic, work and family responsibilities, and life in general, I was not able to hit practice balls while doing the training.  As a result, my accuracy suffered.  It happens.

However, I can say that since I’ve incorporated the modified Level 2 drills into my routine, my swing has gotten better and more consistent!  My angle of attack with driver is much more neutral and my divots with my irons are shallower than ever.  I used to be a very steep AOA (while still shallow swing plane) iron player, an now take more bacon-strip divots than pork chops.  My AOA with driver has gone from a 5.7 up average to a 1.98 up average.

Miscellaneous (10 out of 10)

This is not a SuperSpeed issue because it is not a SuperSpeed product; the PRGR, for whatever reason, just didn’t seem to like me very much.  When I went into my first GC Quad session after Level 1, it was reading my clubhead speed at 165mph while hitting a ball.  On dry swings, it would consistently read 4-5mph slower than what was on GC Quad.  It is what it is.  

Keep it or Re-Gift? (10 out of 10 points)

This should come as a no-brainer, but I’m definitely keeping it.  I still have a few weeks to go with Level 2 and I want to keep pushing the limits of what my body is capable of.  I have still not achieved my goal of 180mph ball speed and I want to see if I can get there!

I truly believe any golfer can benefit from the SuperSpeed system.  Who doesn’t want/need more speed?  If Bryson has taught us anything from his dominating U.S. Open win, distance will always be important. 

Conclusion

Long story short:  SuperSpeed works.  If you put in the work, follow the plan, and truly go all out (don’t worry how silly you look), you have no choice but to see results.  It is simple kinesiology and neuroscience at work.  The science is sound, it is just up to you to go get those gains!

Once again thanks to both MGS and Superspeed golf. Very excited to get into this... With that here is a bit of a start off for everyone.

As we all know we are in a bit of a changing world and especially here in Halifax Nova Scotia where I'm from (at the moment) courses are closed and we don't see any progress for opening for at least another month. This is definitely going to be a roadblock in seeing where things are headed and just that unknown. Thankfully this project we don't have to have a course! I have a decent sized yard and plenty of time so it will give me a good opportunity dive deep into the program. 

I've been looking for a new big stick and as a reward for myself once this is all finished and I have successfully completed the program and seen some gains I will go for a full proper driver fit. 

I am really hoping to see some more ease in speed. I like my swing and where it has gone, but I struggle off the tee and loose a lot of distance when trying to overpower my swing to get more out of it. So with Superspeed I'm hoping to get some good gains on swing speed and ball speed, which will hopefully translate to a better off the tee game. 

As with previous reviews I'll do as much as I can to post on YouTube for videos that pp are asking to see as well as instagram where you follow along @apolloshowl.

I will admit this is also all relatively new as I didn't really follow the last review and know mainly the basics about the product. So I'm sure there will be a lot of lightbulb moments throughout.

Another small thing I'm looking forward to with this is helping my flexibility as that is not something I'm really well known for. 

We have a awesome group here and I'm know we all would encourage everyone to ask as many questions as possible as well as for what you want to see. It helps us a lot and I look forward to the journey to more speed!

Very grateful to My Golf Spy and to Super Speed golf for this fantastic opportunity. As you can see above I am in the slow swing group and my obvious goal is to gain swing speed.  It is important to me that I also maintain what I have been working on in my lessons over the winter as I am feeling more confident in my current swing and the potential ability to hit more fairways and greens. I live in a place that we only see grass for 6 months of the year then its snow.. so the one challenge for me will be winter sessions but I set up a small area in my garage that I have been hitting wedges into a net to keep practicing so that hurdle should be jumped over.  Once again I am stoked for this chance to get better and offer my thoughts on this system. I have started reviewing the past testing thread and also watching some videos on the system to prepare myself for what is coming. If anyone has anything they want to know during the testing that might not be covered please call me out on it and I will try and address it.  Once again thank you to MGS and to Super Speed.

Some initial thoughts and goals:

I'm 52 years old, in decent shape, but could stand to lose about 10-15 lbs. I typically go the the gym a couple times a week and do some weights and cardio, at least until the lockdown. I used to be a long-ball player, but over the last 5 years, or so, some back issues and age have resulted in a steady decline in distance. If you believe the charts that are all over the internet, my distance is still above average for my age and handicap, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want some of the lost distance back - there are a few holes that used to be a wedge into the green that are now an 8. I am under no delusion that I will get it all back, but I am very much looking forward to testing this protocol and seeing what it can do to help me out.

The fact that we don't need a range or golf course to be open to work on the program is a plus -  no matter what direction things go in our somewhat uncertain future, we should still be able to do the work that is being asked of us.
