I was supposed to be on the Match Play DL after a long weekend of volunteering at our local Rotary Brewfest.  There's something wrong when a 67 year old has to move 1000 pounds of ice over a beach and stand for 6 hours.  Needless to say, my hip was bothering me so we called in a sub this week's Match Play event.

I woke up yesterday, felt OK, downed a bunch of Advil and headed to the course.  To my surprise, I shot the best I've done in months.

The good:  8 up and downs during the round.   That's probably the most I've ever had.  I also had a chip in birdie on 17 after chipping close all day.   86% of the fairways wasn't bad either. 

The bad:  The scorecard shows 27 putts, but I had two holes with 3 putts which is very uncommon for me.

It is funny how... "Pulling back a little to keep from aggravating an injury" results in some more consistent play.... there may be something to that!!!!   Be careful... don't re-hurt yourself.  Your Match Play Team needs you!!!   But... NICE ROUND!!

The net score to par should be -6, the gross strokes over/under should be 0 if it was a par 72 course.

Good round that was only 2 strokes over my PB at my home course. Incurred 4 penalty strokes but managed to save bogey on 2 of those occasions so there's that! Very happy with 3 gross birdies for 3 net birdies and 2 net eagles!

I made it. Been home for a week with a bad back. I bunted my way around the course today. I made an error in my clubs for today. I loaded the top with some Ping G425 3-7 hybrids and swapped to regular shafts. While I hit 9 fairways, I just hit 2 greens and while the hybrids may have been alright, swapping for regular shafts was not. 
 

Overall, I’m happy to have played 18 holes relatively pain free.

Day 1 of my Club Championship Tourney.  Should have been a 75 but my putter let me down a little today.  Overall - happy in the way I played... even had 2 doubles... (one due to the putter, one due to a lapse in my chipping skills).  The course was tricked out.  AND we played from the back tees... so my "220 and a cloud of dust off the tee" was definitely put to test... well... it was actually my fairways and long irons put to test haha. 

The main story for me today... it was my first round with what just may be my new Unicorn Ball.  

I spent WAY TOO MUCH time keying the MGS Ball Test Data into a spreadsheet and ran some analysis on different (in-between) swing speeds, and derived a combined performance for iron and driver....  My analysis yielded two balls at the top of the list based on my swing speed...  The ProV1x Left Dash, and the LA Golf Ball.  I have played the left dash before... I like it.. but it was impossible to get for a time, so I moved the the Pro V1... But today...

Long off the tee, solid distance on the irons (never shorter than I expected), and spins great.  Spun back on 8 iron on a flat green.  6 iron... had to mark my ball, move my mark, to repair my ball mark, then replace my mark so I could putt.  Rolls true on the greens, with good feel too.  And to top it off (as I told the other Forum Staff in chat)... it even skips off the water and rolls out to the middle of the fairway ... yup... that happened!  

Thankfully, I came home with the ball I started with (that is the ball above)... because these babies are SPENDY... but I was happy to grab a box after a trip to the bank to test them out... and I wasn't disappointed with the performance :).

Solid low stress day.   Was in the hunt for breaking 80 again until a double at 16.  Gave away 4 strokes on the last three holes... +  there were 3 doubles on the day and a whole mess of lip outs.   Played well just didn't get some breaks to go my way.  I blame the last three holes on choosing to carry in 99 degree heat with no breeze.   Course management went out the window.

Okay, so some fun life lessons learned in this round (that I was lucky enough to play with @Syks7 !) :

1. Playing in 100 degree sun with no shade is ... a challenge. 

2. Deciding to WALK in 100 degree sun with no shade while pushing your bag is ... a BAD choice. 

3. It doesn't matter how much water/gatorade I drink, walking and pushing a bag in 100 degree heat with no shade = I almost die. 

4. "Almost die" is a bit of an exaggeration, but I legit have not felt that level of exhaustion in almost 20 years, and that was after a cardio boxing class that I was WAY too fat for, lol, and the instructor kept coming over to "encourage" me to take some water/vomit breaks.

5. Even with all the above, I shot an 87, which indicates to me that I'm way closer than I think at the ever elusive "breaking 80" thing. 

Was hoping to put up a bunch of net birdies to aid in the Ryder Cup for my team, but ultimately will go with last week's card (also an 87, interestingly), as this week was mostly just a slog to get through the 18th.

Fun Fact: If you're VERY dehydrated, eat a couple of large pickles - the sodium content is crazy high, and you'll feel better almost immediately.  I'm gonna start bringing a giant jar of pickles in the cooler pocket of my Jones bag, lol.
