GaryF
Played 2 saturdays ago and one of the worst 90+ rounds I can remember over the last few years. It was extremely wettttttttt and CPO/slow. A few days later went to the range to erase, and hit pretty well. Then went to Fl to watch grandson play baseball but hit some new clubs at pgatss to start narrowing my search. The last three days served as a volunteer fir the Southern Conference Championship tournament and on my feet 5 hrs each day. East Tenn St won at -31, UT Chattanooga was -25 and Furman at -21. A lot of great golf and nice kids. After the final round today, played 9h with tWife not expecting anything great. However, shot 38 (par35), 6/6 FIRs, 6/9 GIRs, with 1 birdie. A great day with 19,000 steps. The beer tastes great! Popular Post MattWillGolf
I didn't keep score today other than to track putts, no 3 putts on 9 holes. I was trying different shots with the Paradym X irons. I let two singles play through as the course was mostly empty. (37 degrees and hail may have had something to do with that). I'd get out in the fairway and rough and try the irons from different distances and lies. Syks7
On 4/24/2023 at 4:55 PM, Syks7 said: Generally a 45/45 90 would be frustrating for me. Today though, I played a LPGA caliber course, in a tournament, and tournament conditioning. I've never been on a golf course as immaculate as Saticoy CC was today. I actually played pretty well, but I made the mistake of being above the hole on the greens too many times. Something like 4/ 3-putts on the day + at least 4 doubles. My first putt was a 4 footer that broke heavily left to right. I aimed 45 degrees left, put a 1" stroke on it, then watched it slide by and trickle out to 20'. Slippery... It finally got to the point where I realized that I could not go at the pin if I was above it. I turned those downhill birdie putts into defensive lateral putts to flat areas closer to the hole. It worked and the three putts stopped. There was also a lot of elevation change and wind later in the day. Tournament -- so no slope function allowed on the laser. I did pretty well judging, but there's definitely a few strokes in there that I dropped because of it. Highlights on the day: 195 yard (playing 210-15?) 3 hybrid to 12' (unfortunately above the hole, but it was a par) 30 yard uphill greenside bunker shot to 1" for par. Bunker shot over the lip to 2' to 'save' bogey Lots of fun short game shots today. The greens though slippery were relatively easy to read from a chipping perspective and I had one of my best days in a long time on short approach. Plus, legit sand in the bunkers was a pleasure. Its surprisingly easy to get the ball out when there's sand in bunkers and not compacted clay under dust. Pretty good day on a tough site unseen course in tough conditions. Par 3 with 110 ' of elevation drop and water. This caused the group behind us a LOT of trouble. 150 Yards into the teeth of the wind. Par 5 wrapping around the cliff edge. Same Par 5 from the top of the hole. (you can see the 50' downhill putt for birdie I have left) Turns out the course was much harder on people than I thought. My 90 was good enough for third in the top flight gross. (12-0 indexes in a smaller group) Pipped by two guys who shot 87. In other good news I won net. So I 'made' money. .... Subdiver1
Rewind to Sunday. Played in the cold, well it did make it into the low 50s, and the mist let up after the 2nd hole so who can really complain. Missed a 3 foot birdie putt and two very makable par putts to go into #18 at +8; Blocked my drive out on #18 and ended up making double to put myself out of the $$ for the day. ARG!!! Fast forward to Tuesday. I think it actually hit 60 degrees today. Because of a CRAZY day at work I had to race to make my Tuesday night league tee time, mostly because I didn't want to waste a great weather day. Went from the car to the tee and the other 3 players waiting on me to head down the 1st fairway. Ended up being just what I needed to recover from work chaos. skraeling
welp 48 in league. not my best effort. ended the day with an ocho after losing two balls on the same hole... into the same creek (went in after that little s*** though). couldnt get any putts to drop so had a lot of tap in 3 putts (brutal). lost one findable drive somewhere so ate a penalty there. obliterated a 3w farther than I expected... hit it too long and... ate a penalty there too. overall brutal day lol. Not to make excuses but Im blaming it on running a 5k the day before. Gonna have to switch my workout days to after golf instead. Its new to me to be hitting balls far enough (above average for my hcp anyway) now to actually have to worry about... maybe I should club down for this next shot. good news though is my iron striking was vastly better than the week before so that helped make up for the other potato moves. tldr: tired and sore as hell from exercise day before, completely mismanaged the course, paid for it with more penalty shots than Ive ever had in a single round. Popular Post MaxEntropy
First official night of league is in the books and it was a good night - Driver was (mostly) very good. Predictable baby fade was (mostly) back. Irons were also pretty sharp. 6 pars, 2 bogies (one of them a 3-putt ), and a triple(!!!) for a +5 41. The last couple weeks, I have been occasionally suffering from an over-the-top, pull hook. Not sure how or why I am closing the face, but it is happening. On our 15th hole, this is NOT something you want to happen - slight dogleg right, woods are definitely within reach on the left line. I did it last week and, since the score didn't count, I tried to clear a tree in my way with a hybrid with (predictably) disastrous results. Since the score counted this week, I decided to play it smart and hit a wedge over the tree to the middle of the fairway, leaving about 120 to the pin for my 4th. Hit a very crisp 9 iron towards the middle of the green. While it was in the air, I was thinking, "Great, reasonable bogey putt, double at worst." Then the ball lands and zips back, catches the false front and runs off the green into thick rough. A chip and 2 putts later and I walk off with a triple. Even with the blow-up hole, I am very pleased with the round and hope it is a good sign for the MGS outing we are having this weekend, weather permitting, of course. In other news, I witnessed a rare occurrence - all 4 balls in the fairway on the hardest hole on this 9. Normally, I am one of the causes for this to NOT be the case as I can count the number of times I have hit this fairway on a couple fingers. Photographic evidence: Part of what makes this hole difficult is the guy on the left had no shot - the pin was behind the far tree on the left and he is too far back for the type of loft needed to safely get over the trees. MadHatter
Sunday evening I finished everything I had to do just in time to make it up to the course and walk 9, so I quickly got up to the course. Putter was really working for me (14 putts on 9 holes, 0 3 putts). Working on distance control with my chipping since my first lesson, need to adjust and find a rhythm. Irons however I couldn't hit to save my life, chunking behind the ball way too many times. 2 pars, 3 bogeys, 3 doubles, and a blowup quad: 49. Had my second lesson yesterday, so definitely got some lessons on iron shots. Walked 9 after the lesson, had one of my best 9 holes ever. Putting wasn't as great (19 putts on 9 holes, 1 3 putt). But I consistently was able to get my ball down the fairway much straighter than before. 2 pars, 6 bogeys, 1 double bogey: 44 Hoping to play like that during a full 18 and meet my break 90 goal for this summer. Gonna go walk 9 again today. cksurfdude, JerryB, MaxEntropy and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: TaylorMade Sim Max D 3 Wood: TaylorMade Sim Max D 5 Wood: Slazenger Wrath 3 Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Mid 4-GW: Tommy Armour TA1 Wedge: Cleveland RTX 588 54° Putter: Ping Sigma 2 Anser Stealth Ball: Maxfli StraightFli

Bang60
It was down the middle plus it’s a stuffed up driver shaft that I broke the tip while removing the adapter from too much heat, probably the one of the first few I did from a old Nickent driver Edited April 26, 2023 by Bang60 Error JerryB, Merlin1313, cksurfdude and 1 other 4 Quote I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…
Popular Post MadHatter
Just finished walking the back 9... Some miscues but no big blunders. On 18 par 5, hit a decent drive, followed it up with a solid 3 wood, then PW from 92 yards out to about 2 inches, tap in birdie. Closest to an eagle I've ever come. 1 birdie, 1 par, 4 bogeys, 3 doubles: 45 with 17 putts. Front nine yesterday: 44 Back nine today: 45 Now to just put that together during a full 18 round for my break 90! richk9holes
9 holes at Clearbrook GC. Aerated greens again, 4th different course recently, about 2/3 of my recent rounds. Guess April is a popular time to punch and sand the greens. Couple doubles hurt, made a ten foot bogey putt to keep a 3rd off the card. Ended up +8 on the 9 holes with 2 net birdies. richk9holes
Went to Colonial Terrace afterwards for another 9 holes walking. Played great aside from a pulled drive OB on #7. Even birdied #2 which always challenges me. +4 on the 9 holes including double on #7. Played 6 holes at -1 net. sirchunksalot, MattF, MadHatter and 4 others 7 Quote Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks '23 Forum Tester: Elixir Golf Ball WITB:TS2 10.5° @ 11.25° Tensei blue AV 55 R graph•917f2 15° @ 16.5° Diamana blue x5ct dialed 70 R graph•Stealth 22° Ventus red 6 (non-velo) R graph• 699u 2i 17° tgi 70 R graph•24° Tour v 90 black pvd R steel•699 6i-PW Tour 110 black pvd R steel• SM8 50°/08° @ 52°/10° SM8 stock steel• Jaws Full Toe 56°/12° DG Spinner TI steel • c series DW 2.0 slant neck stock steel•Phantom 2 gps•Tour v3 rangefinder•Elixir golf ball•
Popular Post Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Played another nine for the vct today. Shot a 54 and lost 4 balls (those counting that’s 10 balls in 27 holes at this course ). Was working on Lesson work of slowing my backswing. My issue is my backswing is as fast as downswing and throws me off. Driver was very fade oriented. Either cut or push fade. I went to range after and hit five balls with face spray. Hit two fades just off target. A cut on target, a straight ball and a pull. Face spray showed I am making good contact but my face to path must be all messed up. (For whatever reason I can’t upload my picture as it’s too big ). I just need to keep grinding here. was an up and down round. Hit some good wedge shots (a near chip in for par on a hole i shanked driver and a knock in par on 9) but also took three shots to get out of a bunker. putting had a couple three putts because I was dumb. Did barely knock in a 42ft putt as it grazed the left edge. clubs 7i on down I was hitting way more solid with slowing down my backswing my penalties were as such: UW heeled into red stakes, 5i on par three to pond (that’s three nines in a row I’ve done that on this hole). A hooked 3w off tee into red stakes and a driver push fade just into red stakes. Overall a gorgeous morning in the 50s and hardly a cloud in the sky. sirchunksalot, JerryB, MattF and 7 others 10 Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS Ventus Black 6x 44.5" 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with KBS Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter: L.A.B. JerryB
Owen and I got out and mostly played the back nine at River Heights today. Crews are still working on the new irrigation system; holes 1 and 18 were under repair so after 17 we jumped over to play hole 9 to complete our round. Little chilly to start but it was mostly open in front and got busier and busier behind us so it was good we started when we did. Starting on a pair of par threes is always a boom or bust situation with me, even more so now when my iron game is toast. Today was on the bust side as I started out triple double with three chips on ten and three putts on eleven. Twelve didn't start much better as I hit a poor drive that hooked. I ground my clubs behind the ball before I start my back swing. If the head catches something as I pull back it pulls everything out of sequence. I either need to learn to hover my club or learn to abandon the swing and reset. Wound up bogeying the hole. Actually parred the next two holes. 14 was an especially big deal to me. It was my nemesis hole last year; the last one on the course that I managed to par. To knock it off my list early was a confidence booster. Fifteen and sixteen had poor drives and equally poor recoveries leading to a double and a bogey. Seventeen was a good sequence of shots leading to a par and then over to nine where I wasted a good drive with a mediocre chip and bad putting for a bogey. If you're following along at home, that's a (+10) 46 for the day, pretty in line with my recent performances. Owen played well although his chipping was a bit of a struggle. He beat me by a stroke. cksurfdude, MattF, MadHatter and 5 others 8 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter
jglynch
Played 16 today. Had to leave to pick one of my kids up from school. Playing at University Club of Kentucky on the Wildcat Course, playing with my dad and two other senior golfers so I play their tees to keep pace of play up, shot a 42 on the front and was at 31 with an easy par 4 and a par 5 the toughest hole on the course left. cjeffs12
Been on the road working for awhile, so decided to go play 9 this afternoon. Our course is soaked, and the greens are struggling from winter. The greens are getting better, but the nights are not getting warm enough to really get some growth. This makes making putts difficult, but I’m using it as a way to work on my mental game. My swing is really coming together. I’m starting to trust it on the course, and my ball striking is getting clean. My misses are now mostly directional, which is leaving me short sided pin high which is where I need to start focusing on improvement. Dweed
Yesterday not so good. Played new course by myself and had no clue of the nuances I was running into. Today, weather was 10* warmer, 62 and sunny. Played much better. At least I felt better playing an old reliable. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, MadHatter and 3 others 6 Quote D- Ping G 400 SFT 16*- Adams Tight Lie 19*- Adams Tight Lie 4H- Ping G 400 5-U- Ping G 400 SW- Nike 56*- Ping Glide 2 P- Sub70 004 Mallet
