North of us in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area has seen 20 inches of rain with another 4-8 inches forecast by end of the day on Friday.   Key West is about 150 miles South and West of there and luckily, we got a fraction of that amount.  It still was enough to have fairways with standing water, traps filled with water and require cart path only today.  That did not deter our men's league this morning!

Lately, I seem to be demonstrating the fact that I'm a late bloomer.  Three of the last four rounds I've played I broke 40 on the back (and the one outlier was 40).  Today, followed suit!  My last five holes I was -1 which is pretty good for a 10 handicap.

image.png.97bf334563f55aa9d49476c776347d70.png

I wished I carried my iPhone with me on the course today just to see how many steps I had during my round...and I took a cart!  As much as I tried to hit the ball close to the cart paths during my round, somehow it seemed I had a half minute walk to my ball.

Overall, it was a very "Golf2Much" round.  I hit 86% of my fairways (one miss left, one miss right).  My greens in regulation was decent for me at 17% (one more green than usual).   The six up and downs for par was a little better than usual as it was a great pitching and chipping day.  I one putted the last four holes which included a 10 ft birdie and a 14 ft. to save par on an aggressive chip.

The bad side was four doubles all influenced by the rain-soaked course.  Three of the four doubles were result of being in muddy traps and the other had standing water on most of the fairway.   Hopefully, the rain has passed, the course will dry out and we have a week or so of decent weather so we can take advantage of the healed aerated greens.  Why?  It's our experience that just as soon as the greens get playable, they will aerate again!  Tomorrow is exactly a month since the first aeration and top dressing.  My guess is that they will be at it again within the next two weeks.

And just when I started putting better too!

I have been playing awfully the past month or so for the most part. New driver last week, played alright, but went out Tuesday for a practice round and really focused on ball striking. Absolutely great round, but since there was no one else, no bets, no pressure, I don’t post those here.

Wednesday, I stepped in a hole and twisted my left knee before the round. I didn’t really think much about it, but my ball striking was not great to start. Catching the irons a bit thin or fat. Not too bad on the front, until hole 9. The short game was still good. Then on 10, we won’t talk about the 2 shots from 80 yards that missed the green, but then chipped in for par. On 11, I went bunker, to bunker, to bunker and holed out for a birdie. Then had to take an unplayable on 12 and sank a 45’er for bogey. 13 chipped in again for a par..14 hit driver off the deck through 50 trees and made another par.

Finally, my poor ball striking caught up with me, and I went in the water twice and had a 3 putt to finish out with a bogey and 2 doubles. By the end, my knee was sore enough that I just wanted to get it over with. I was planning on playing the Men’s Scramble that evening but went home instead.

I wasn’t going to post this round, but I don’t think I will be playing anymore this week. I already have a problem getting my weight off my right side, but now I can’t put weight on my left. It’s not like there’s not a decent tournament to watch. Besides, my wedge game, driver, and putter are going great right now.

(Rating/Slope for the course is 69.2/117.)

Great to finally get back onto the course after an unintended hiatus. Work and life got quite busy and just didn't have time to play a round.

Drove across the border to Malaysia to play a round at Forest City Golf Resort - Legacy course. It's a beautiful Nicklaus layout that is fairly generous at the landing areas and greens. After a rough start (we arrived late due to a jam at immigration and customs), so effectively went from car straight to the first tee, I managed to get my driver and irons to behave properly. However, the wedge and putter didn't want to cooperate until the back nine, so there were quite a few frustration misses.

Happy to report I got my first birdie in 7 months (now THAT is a depressing stat), from a random 21 footer from the fringe. But I'll TAKE IT!

Can't wait for my next round!

A disappointing round after the first time in maybe 3 years where my driving was producing +3.7 strokes gained. Losing everything on the greens after a very dry week and a double cut during the week to host a national event.

As nice as it sounded, I ended up in a trap. That same hole has a tree in the middle of the fairway 😂.

Played really well.  No real trouble.  One of my best rounds this summer so far, and I believe I could've done better as I did 3 putt twice.

We have our courses Ryder cup style tourney, "Town Vs Country" coming up on the 22nd, so nice to be playing better.

Lessons definitely help.

And... my T-Squared putter may be here tomorrow (tester here), and am excited to start playing, and testing it!  Hopefully nail a few more in that 10' range.

Not going to post.....because it ties with a score I already posted as my handicap has dropped a stroke at my home course....had one bad day in the 80s this week. But I still haven't been able to avoid the dreaded double......snap hooked a driver into the woods on the 12th.  And lost the feel for my driver on the back 9.  4 birdies though....on the dreaded 9th and my nemesis the 18th.  Felt good to play both those holes well....weather has been great in the morning this week.

Still don't know where to find the standings for the flights for this season...any help would be appreciated.  Have a good weekend!

Perfect scoring conditions today, pity no one told me.

87 net 78 so not posting. I thought I hit the ball well but a few slack shots wracked up doubles and triple. Course is unforgiving hit a bad shot and you're punished

3rd: 100yds in 52° wedge catch down slope to go thru the green, short side chip back => double

8th: push drive, chip out and miss fairway.  miss green, chip 2 putts => double

9th: triple with penalty drop and now trying to play low risk

14th: triple with lost ball

16th: double, nearly chipped in for par, lipped out return putt, 180° lip out on the way back

Rarely do we get so much rain and cloudy days where we have several days of cart path only.  This is one of those occasions!  Given the Miami area has been dealing with two feet of rain since mid-week, I guess here in Key West, we should consider ourselves lucky.

The front nine fairways had standing water, so every yard we got was earned!

image.png.b40446d60ad4ab01d74becc0284a13ca.png

I must say that I continued my decent play even with the poor scoring conditions.  My 64% fairways hit was a little low for me, but three of those missed fairways were by less than a foot.  My greens in regulations was one more than normal.  My four up and down for pars didn't include the two chip ins I had (one for a birdie and one for a par on the course's hardest hole).  The hard part was that neither won me a skin!

The two chip ins helped keep my overall putts number down to 26 (two zeros will do that).  In general, I putted well today with several just short of lipping the cup.  Overall, I felt better about my putting.

Hopefully, most of the rain pattern has passed and we can have a few days for the course to dry out enough to overcome the cart path only.

Could have been better, could have been worse.

Approaches & GIRs are killing me so far this season. Tough to score when you're pitching/chipping onto the green for your 3rd shot (on par 4s) & your 4th shot (on par 5s) 🤦‍♂️

Too many swing thoughts going on the first 6-7 holes....performance improved when I just swung 3/4ths & let the club do the work.

Several great drives keeps the Paradym out of time-out. I'm getting more & more comfortable with my Betti putter 🥰
