One Club Tournament Challenge

Saw this video last night as an ad on Youtube and thought this would be a hard but fun challenge during those practice rounds.

 

 

Has anyone every played a full round with just one club? And if you haven't are you up for the one club challenge?

Today it would have to be a snow shovel.  8"-16" forecast and it's coming down good right now.

I won a one-club match on a par 3 course with just the eight iron.   Putting was easier than I thought.  I sunk a couple over ten feet.

Back in the 1980's when i lived in Louisiana, we often played a one club challenge on sat afternoons in the summer.....My club of choice was a 5 iron.....it was always fun.

Which club would you choose?

Depending on how long the course is I'd probably choose my 6 iron. I hit it plenty long and shouldn't have too many problems with the short game with it.

When i do these, I choose the club working backwards from the course's yardages, my objective being to hit the maximum number of greens in reg with normal swings.   Usually this breaks down to a 7 or 8 iron.   175 yard  7's gives you a range of 350 on the fours and 525 on the 5's.  You'd think that putting would be easier with the lower lofted long irons.  It isn't.   They are too long shafted.   The shorter clubs give you a more normal set up and allow you to nip the ball at or above the equator better.   Chipping is what kills you, because you'll just miss greens a lot and need to chip back.   Very hard to chip anything longer than a 7 and get it in the air and stop it.

Sure as long as everyone is doing that.  However, a much more fun round was 3 clubs.  A hybrid, PW and putter.  or what ever three you pick.  I went with a Hybrid, GW and Putter last time.

I'd go 7i, unless there were needs for a 200+yd forced carry.

I want to try a 1 club challenge at least once in my life. I think I would go with a 7 iron.

Our men's club had one of these about 15 years ago.  One club. I chose an 8 due to the length of the shorter 4's and all the 3's..  Funny thing is, a 10 handicap shot gross 81 net 71 with one club... pretty much what he shot every other day.  He never heard the end of it from us.  "why are you lugging all of those other clubs around??" ect... Fun time.

He heard the same thing that I heard my first year playing golf.

I joined the company league and typically shot over 60 for nine holes after work. Toward the end of the season, they had a 3 club tournament. Since I wasn't very good with woods, I chose 5i, 9i, and putter. I shot 47.
