titleist 905r driver. Shaft change

Recommended Posts

Yes - but it's not really a job for the beginner. At one time, the job was only available via Titleist themselves.

The 905 series drivers have an aluminium insert which also forms the hosel of the club - good for heat transfer when pulling shafts but very prone to damage if too much heat from a flame is used. Full bore insertion shafts will be particularly difficult to remove and may require the original shaft to be sacrificed and the bore drilled out to accept a new shaft.

Thankfully 905 heads are pretty cheap and easy to obtain - it may actually be easier and cheaper to buy an old club and use it as a donor rather than trying to find the aluminium adapter which needs to be properly trimmed after install - difficult if you don't have access to grinding wheels for example.

Still a great driver though and worth experimenting with a few shafts to find a decent combination, even though it may be slightly spinny by todays standards. The V2 pairing is a classic but not to everyones taste when it comes to feel - boardy as heck in some cases.
