Still struggling on which 3 wood I want in the bag.  I am between my Cobra King Speedzone Big Tour and the regular Cobra King Speedzone. They have the same shaft, the Big Tour is 1° stronger, slightly bigger head, and no Baffler rails.  The rails aren't as important on that club because it is primarily a tee club, but I hit driver so well that I rarely pull the Big Tour out of the bag. I love the Baffler rails on my regular 3 wood because if I need to hit it on longer holes, it helps hit from any lie and the club is still fairly long off the tee.

I think I just answered my question, just needed to talk it out haha.

Well I’m still loving the autoflex shaft I’m gaming but today while doing some heating and cooling installation at my local guys spot, he mentions to me that autoflex is now available in black and yellow instead of pink. It isn’t any different than mine except color but well you know…

Making this post now since I’m sure sometime soon it will be moved over to the “what have you bought thread”.

So after a Titleist fitting for a TSR and some time demoing it on a GC Quad on range mode and on a couple of courses (over the last week and a half), I am down to two drivers. TSR3 vs TSR4.  I got fitted to a Graphite Design Tour AD 6S and the numbers look great with an 9 deg head on both.  It’s also set at C2 vs A1 which the fitter advised and it works better for me GC numbers wise for dispersion and distance.  Definitely 15 yards of total distance better than my TSi3 in my current bag,
The spin numbers are slightly lower on the TSR 4 and more optimal for distance, but it seems like the TSR 3 is more forgiving.  So really a bit of a toss up.
Thinking in real world conditions, that going with something that’s slightly more forgiving with a bit more spin may be better vs the extra 7-10 yards of carry.

Would love some thoughts if people have any…  it’s so hard to decide.

If I remember correctly, you hit it plenty long to begin with.  I'd buy the forgiveness, largely because I can't count on consistently finding the center of the club face.  But that's me...

I would go with the more forgiving option. In the long run more accuracy will more of a benefit then the 7 to 10 yards as that is really a half club difference on a second shot.

For what it is worth I had the same dilemma and went with the TSR3 with a Graphite Design VR6x. The TSR4 was slightly longer but the overall consistency of the TSR3 sealed the deal for me. Slightly more forgiveness and much more consistent numbers were key for me. Shocked at how the spin is controlled across the face…especially for Titleist.

No longer thinking about Japanese wedges. Have played well in my short game with 45-52-56° wedges recently I think I can settle on having a large loft gap between clubs I don't use for full swings.

Thoughts are now on the top of the bag. I have put some heavy use on my 5h and Callaway keeps lowering the price on Rogue ST pro hybrids. Ultimately I think Paradym is the way to go if I'm going to get a new 4h to replace the 5h. I will be patient, for now.

Well Cobra has sale going for their 2021 3D Printed Putters and it has got me thinking if I need a new. I currently have their Supernova face balanced and am pondering a move to a blade such as the Grandsport-35. Does anyone have experience with that putter? If so, good or bad?

Yeah, the 2014 apex pros looked great but I never liked the look of the standard Apex

They need some chrome and a little less plastic to them. I love the muscle design that the 2016 ones have. I would quite possibly kill for the black finish ones

I too am a teacher and when I returned to golf I sold my x12 pro series and bought cf16s!  Love them, got better, got fitted for apex 21 pros.   Love them

I wasn't planning on getting a new driver this year, but the Sim2 Max 3HL I just got is getting similar ball speeds when compared to my current driver.  I'm thinking I may need to do some testing this weekend.

Need to move to graphite regular irons due to a back issue. I could reshaft my Apex Edge Pros which I love and are certainly playable. But what fun would that be to only buy new shafts? Narrowed it down to The Maltby Forged TE or the Takomo 101T. The Macgregor MT-86 OS are somewhat in the picture but not like the others. Likely Recoil shafts. I have a set of irons I built for my father with the UST Profoce XT regular shaft. I hit them well and the reduction in shaft weight from steel is negligible to me.

All this talk about fairway woods got me thinking. When I first got serious about golf, I carried a 4 wood with 16.5 degrees of loft. It was a TaylorMade V Steel and I loved that thing. I love my Cobra 3 wood, but if I go to 4 wood loft it closes the face. What fairways out there are you people liking that are 3HL or 4 wood? I've seen TaylorMade and Callaway with those options, any other good ones that people are liking?

Titleist is one that's caught my eye in store at 16.5° 3w HL. Adjustable -.75/+1.5 as well in case I wanted to play around with the loft.

A couple of these seemed cheap, especially the one with xstiff shaft if you are a high club speed player.

Last year was new driver and putter. I think irons are going to be next. I still Titleist 714s in the bag so it may be about time to upgrade those. I'm still playing a fair amount, so I still like to stick with a true players iron. I just want consistency with a club, and I can stick with more traditional lofts. In Northern Ohio, there's maybe a dozen courses over 6800 yards, so I have distance to play anywhere.

Check these Mizunos out the modus xstiff or px 6.0 might work for your swing, not sure what shaft preference you have. 🤔 I obviously spend a lot of time looking at golf clubs I couldn't possibly wield competently. Aspirational, I guess.

Cool! Yea Mizuno is always an option in the back of my mind. I really like the Titleist, so I was hoping to see a new CB/MB from them soon, as their last release was 2020. I'm also interested in the Srixon ZX7. After being on here, Edel, Sub70, and now Takomo are on the short list too. I 'fit myself' into the CBs with the X100 shaft, which I mean I hit a bunch of different head/shaft combos at GG and this one felt the best.

Saw this sub70 pro (16*) at 2nd swing in better than average condition with the proper shaft and took a chance and am glad I did.

The Taylor Made BRNR mini driver. Can’t say for certain that it is anything more than nostalgia for Burner driver with the ti bubble shaft I played as a teenager. Something about it is definitely intriguing though

Update:

I tried one out today. It was fun to hit. However, I’m not sure where it would fit into my bag. By design, it isn’t long enough to overtake the driver and it is harder to hit off the deck than the 3w. There are a couple of shots it would be ideal for, but for the price I can’t see it. Off to the next infatuation…

I’ve been looking into getting new irons as I’m still playing my custom fit Nike Pro Combos I got back in 2014. I’ve had my eye on the Haywood MB’s primarily due to the variety of optional specs I can have them built to without breaking the bank. Reviews I’ve read state they play pretty similar to that of the Titleist 770’s. If anyone has any insight or other better options I’m all ears!

Those Haywood’s are absolutely gorgeous! I too am curious whether any of the other spies plays them or has at least tried them. You are correct, they seemed to be well reviewed in everything I have come across.

Those Haywood’s are absolutely gorgeous! I too am curious whether any of the other spies plays them or has at least tried them. You are correct, they seemed to be well reviewed in everything I have come across.

I may just pull the trigger on them unless I hear that the negatives outweigh the positive. I used an older set of p770’s a couple years back for a couple of months but they were stock off the shelf and couldn’t work the ball how I wanted to but I loved the feel of them throughout the swing

If you don’t have a fitter with Haywood clubs in your area.  You could try their 7 iron program.

I bought a 7 Haywood CB iron spec’ed with one of their upcharge graphite shafts and the exact grip (I use) to try it out.  It’s very good, I like the look and the feel of it.

If you like it you can then order the rest of the set from Haywood.
