Not a great effort yesterday at Southern Oaks. Went 44/46 to shoot 90 (+18) 😞... I did at least have the driver going well enough on the front to bomb a 311-yard drive on #4 💪! Got another round scheduled for next Monday at Whitestone. Curious to see if the greens there are still running as fast as they were last visit - could make for an interesting round if they are.

I got talked into playing with my wife and two of her lady friends when I really wanted to just stretch and practice a little.  46º at tee time and we started off #10 because they are laying sod in those bunkers on #2 before they fill them with sand; had to get them finished before the first group got to the front nine.  Didn't quite make it, so we were playing the par 4 #2 as a really short par 3 like last week.

Played horribly, but had some stellar short game shots to save a lot of pars; really some of the best up and downs I have ever had in a round... from some really bad positions.  When we got to the front nine, my back had stiffened up and I had trouble staying down through the ball... which led to two doubles.

Looks like you pieced together a pretty good round Kenny even though all the cylinders weren't firing.  Amazing how the short game can save (or more often in my case - break) a round!

Yesterday started with the news that my course, Key West Golf Club, got a lot of rain the day before and it would be cart path only for the front nine.  Knowing I don't hit the ball very far, I knew it was going to be a long day.  I mean "long" with no roll whatsoever!   The combination of good approach shots, chipping and putting, I shot a 79.   With a course handicap of 13 on the par 70 tough layout (69.5/129) that was very wet, I felt pretty good!  I hit all but two fairways (17 and 18 and only missed them by three feet) but my "longest" drive was only 171 yards.  I wish I could say it was because of the wet conditions!

I had only two greens in regulation.  What helped by the following:  my average short game proximity was 6 feet, I got up and down 60% of the time, I made a total of 67 feet of putts with only 26 putts.   The 45-foot chip in on 16 helped for sure!

As I'm posting this, I realize the yardage in the GHIN system is about 150 yards shorter than what the white tees on the scorecard.  Interesting.  You learn something new every day!

The "stars need to align" for me to shoot sub-80 on my home golf course.  Yesterday with a soggy course and low expectations on the first tee, the stars did align.

Great Shootin' G2M and in less than ideal conditions too.  Also looks like you either hit a quality tee shot, or a great putt on #16 for the birdie!

I got to play Rum Pointe just outside OC, MD on monday, its in my top 3 fav's.

Our group played the white tees at 68.6 / 118.  With my 4 cap i shot a 77 for a net 73.  I had 4 net birdies and my hole of the day was a natural bird on #8 into a stiff wind off the bay for a net eagle!  I had a wind aided 285 yard drive on #7 which is the #1 handicap hole and set me up for an easy 8i and 2 putt for a par.

Actually, it was about a 45 ft chip in from the front rough.  Zero putts on a whole really helps one's putting stats!

Actually, it was about a 45 ft chip in from the front rough.  Zero putts on a whole really helps one's putting stats!

A chip in!! even better!!  🙂

Shot 76 at the Barnsley Resort in Georgia from the Green Tees (70.8 / 127) which is a 6 course cap for me so 78 (course cap) - 76 = Net -2. Really tough course but I made some long putts. Longest drive was a paltry 261 yds, I made 3 regular/natural birdies and two additional net birdies. Pretty good day.

Four rounds this week on a golf trip. If I don't go too hard on the beers (and wine) I'll post some scores.  2 days in the Hunter Valley (north of Sydney) and 2 rounds in @MattF's old stomping ground of Sydney. Playing The Vintage, Cypress Lakes, Elanora Country Club and Terrey Hills.

Nice one! I was in southern Sydney, just on the city side of the Georges River.

Best bit is, this is only stage 1 of 3 weeks off with lots of golf. Stage 3 will be epic. Perhaps not quite as epic as your Mizuno junket though. More details to follow

Are you on a golfing trip Vandy?  I'll have to look up Barnsley Resort, I'm not sure I've heard of that one...

Went on a fall break trip with the family and was able to play the course here. Excellent conditions and fairly challenging. I was able to score decently well because I played it short (6,200 yds) and the greens were perfect. If you started your ball on line it held very well. I had a good time but I wouldn't go back there on my own or with a golf trip. Comparing it to something like Pursell Farms, I feel like PF is just much more fun to play because it is much more open and forgiving. This course will beat you up a bit in some places which I don't love for a golf trip. A good test for my game though.

That said, without getting too deep into a course review, I think it is a bit penal off the tee for a resort course. It is the type of course that is 40-50 yd wide landing zones (which is good) but if you miss that at all the ball is GONE. Like in the trees where there are thousands of leaves on the ground. I would imagine at high handicapper would have a lot of trouble off the tee there.
