Rory Wins CJ Cup and Returns to No.1 World Ranking

CARLSBAD, Calif. (Oct. 23, 2022) – Rory McIlroy powered past a crowded leaderboard to repeat at THE CJ CUP and regain the number one spot in the OWGR for the ninth time in his career. McIlroy went 66-67-67-67 for a total of 17-under to mark his sixth straight season with a win. 

McIlroy was tied for the lead as he stood on the 14thhole before making three consecutive birdies to vault to a three-stroke lead. A 13-foot birdie putt on the 14thhole with his Spider X and TP5x kickstarted the run. 

The now World No. 1 followed up with a world-class bunker shot on 15 with his Milled Grind 3 wedge from the greenside bunker that rolled to just outside five feet setting up the subsequent birdie make.  On 16, McIlroy ripped a 359-yard drive with his Stealth Plus 9.0° driver and then drained a 21-foot putt to make his third consecutive birdie.

Joined fellow Team TaylorMade athlete Tiger Woods as the only reigning FedEx Cup Champions to win their first start of the following season.

McIlroy will hold the No. 1 spot in the world for the 107th week in his career, which is 4th most all-time.

Sixth straight season with a win and third win of the 2022 calendar year and is his second successful title defense joining his repeat win earlier this year at the RBC Canadian Open

Win marks his 23rd career victory on the PGA TOUR.

One of the classiest guys out there.   In additon to the win, I don't know if anyone caught the video of him and a young man Tyler after he won.  Tyler who has MS or something but is confined to a wheelchair, was so over the moon happy, the Rory came back out and spent time with him afterward, I guess he got to know him at Kiawah or something a couple years ago.    Also stayed an signed every autogrpah well past dark.

This is going to be a great upcoming year for golf.  I predict Rory and Scheffler will be trading that #1 spot a few times... Could '23 be the year for Rory's Grand Slam????   I think he is peaking at the perfect time!!
