How Long Do You Keep Golf Gloves?

How long do you keep your golf gloves? 

How long do you expect your golf glove to last? And what glove do your normally use?

Do you have a glove storage unit or do they just go in the bag after?

I have a glove compartment and use a 3 glove Rotation. I expect mine to be good for 10 or so rounds and know they loose performance after that.

In the past I have always bought under armour gloves.

For me, I play until there is a hole in it. As I do more range time than full rounds I burn through them a little bit quicker than some maybe.  I’m also not very picky on gloves and honestly shop sales and buy a few at a time as long as they fit decent. No storage solution for me, the glove I’m using gets strapped to the outside handle with a brand new spare in the side pocket with my rain gear. I will say that after playing with a glove in the rain I find it never really feels the same afterwards, and usually finds it’s way to the garbage shortly after

My gloves will normally last a season. But I tend to switch them out 3 times a year. I’m not a fan of super slick stretched out gloves. I don’t really have an expectation as it’s a fairly cheap part of the equipment line up. 
 

I use the Titleist players glove as I’m not a fan of the synthetic mesh around my fingers/knuckles. 

All my gloves, usually 2-3, live hooked around my carry handle on my bag.

I enjoyed learning about golf gloves during the MGS Forum Community Call yesterday and Kerry is a natural teacher with a passion for his subject - the golf glove, how it is sized, how it should fit, how long it should be expected to last, and how it is something that should be considered a regular replacement item and factored into the game of golf no different than a sleeve of balls and paying for greens fees, cart, 19th hole beverage or one from the cart girl, etc.  Like a Pandora's Box there is much more to the subject than the pretty packaging lets on to the glove within and everything from how it is made to how it performs and should be cared for.

Mine is the cheapest on the shelf edge or peg hook in the store and if it has a clearance tag on it so much the better.  Currently using Zero Friction glove that touts "one size" as it stretches so I completely understand the snug feeling for a glove and it happens to fit my hand like a glove (well it does) should.  I care for it by tagging the hook & loop closure on the loop patch on my golf bag, it gets moved to the loop taping on my pushcart moving from parking lot to first tee and from last cup to parking lot again. 

I wear a glove until the surface is so worn it no longer provides the protection and grip it did new not necessarily with a hole but I wear my gloves on the easy side compared to a friend I gave one of my new gloves to because he didn't have his with him that day.  He had a different glove the next time I saw him and asked how he liked the Zero Friction and he said he tore it just like all his gloves tear usually after one round.  My 2022 glove made it through most of the season of 124 rounds.  It will be retired now and a new one for the 2023 outdoor season.

As a frugal golfer looking to cut cost for my sport and favorite pastime wherever possible, extending the life of my glove is a necessity as is every other piece of my equipment that makes playing golf enjoyable and possible without attracting attention from any but the most critical Judge Smails type.

Living in Florida, the gloves don’t necessarily dry out like they do when I travel up north. However, because of the humidity issues and my hands sweating, it causes me to use two to four gloves a round in the spring summer months and wind up tossing them only when they get all stretched out. I just changed grips to Kangaroo leather on my clubs and when I feel like it , I can go glove-less as they stay really sticky. Gloves are FJ, Ping, Titleist, all top of the line.

I've used premium gloves in the past and found them to be very comfortable, retained their shape and remained supple longer than less expensive alternatives. However, in my experience, they still didn't last long enough compared to Kirkland gloves even when I toss them much more frequently. Yes, they lose their shape much faster. But I can buy 4 of them for the price of one premium glove and I haven't experience anything close to that kind of life with them. 

Now, to answer your question. I typically go through two gloves per year playing twice a week and range time. Occasionally a glove will lose its shape faster than normal, but I don't worry about replacing it because they're pretty inexpensive. Keep in mind that I don't put a death grip on the club so wear isn't as big an issue as with some players.

Figured it would be best to answer in order:

How long to I keep them?  All so far - once worn out or thru, they’re hung on a peg in the shop (then again I’ve been only playing the past six years).  In reality, I’ve started using better quality gloves (FootJoy at the moment).  Getting about a season for a glove - but I switch bags and keep a separate glove in each bag.  

How long do I expect them to last?  At least most of a season of playing at a minimum a round per week.  

What glove do I normally use?  Have experimented with different brands - MaxFli, Callaway, Wilson and currently FootJoy.  The best in feel and durability has been the FootJoy….

Storage for them?  I am bag stuffer!

For me, mostly because I don't play often enough, it's hard to keep track of how long they really last.  Basically, I keep them until the palm rips, haha.  That could be as little as 3-4 rounds depending on how long I go between rounds since the gloves are typically attached to my bag and my bag is in my garage where it's nice and hot for most of the year (SWFL).  I like the Asher gloves just based on style options and their leather is pretty good too.  I've never really considered a "glove caddy" or storage unit but maybe I should so that the periods of time that I'm not playing the gloves can be more protected.  I'm intrigued by the Red Rooster quality since it has won most wanted awards but the styling really isn't for me.  Hopefully they'll expand their lineup even further!

I play 110-120 rounds a year. Golf gloves last about 50-70 rounds for me, I used to buy mid range FJ gloves.

I bought a FJ Pure Touch Limited once, and the palm split the first round. So I’ve been buying FJ WeatherSof 2-packs since then. In summer I use two, alternating from one to the other every few holes to avoid them getting too sweaty.

Last year I bought a FJ TropiCool glove, and absolutely loved it. Of course it seems they’re not making them again this year. That would be my go to glove…

I buy a pair of FJ StaSof Winter gloves every year, only get one season out of them.

I also have a pair of FJ RainGrips for those days. They work well enough as winter gloves too IME.

I’d like to try Red Rooster but haven’t seen them for sale in stores yet.

Playing in South Texas in the humid hot days, I go thru at least 3 to 4 gloves a round that become wet.  So I've come up with ways to try to keep them longer by alternating them thru the round and then I wash them after 3 rounds.  Tip is don't put them in the dryer after washing, I lay them flat on the dryer to let them dry.  

I use the Kirtland golf glove and by doing the steps above, I can keep gloves at least 6 months for a 4 pack.

I play less than 20 rounds in a season here in the Chicago area. I usually start the season wearing a pair of winter type golf gloves, than switch as the weather gets warmer to a left hand glove. I used to buy FJ WeatherSoft, but than switched to the PGASS house brand gloves, PGA Tour. I find for the price, around $7, they are well made, with no issues of seams coming apart, and fit snugly, as they should. I have one of those plastic glove hands, to put the glove on after wearing, and it can dry without stretching, and it will keep a good shape. One glove can last me a season, and I always have a new spare in my bag, if for any reason I want to switch. I have on occasion, washed a glove in the kitchen sink with cool water, and a little dish soap, if it is looking a little dirty, or just want to kind of renew the glove's shape. I rinse it well, put it on the plastic glove hand, and let it air dry, putting it out in the sunshine if weather permits. These are synthetic leather gloves, and even after washing, feel very good, and retain their grip, and never feel slick. I use Lamkin Crossline oversize grips, and I never feel the need to put a death grip on the club with this glove. This is a very good glove for the price, and would invite anyone to try them. They have ALL the sizes, in stock at the store. This is my go-to glove, and I am looking forward to this season...

I used to toss them when they got a bit worn, or lost their tackiness. However, since discovering Copper Tech gloves that’s no longer an issue for me …. they keep their tackiness and last a very long time (years, if rotated a bit) and can also be washed and dried to restore their tackiness.

I wash my WeatherSof or TropiCool gloves every couple of weeks, but I just put it on and wash my hands with lots of soap until it looks clean. Rinse thoroughly, dry by rolling in a towel and air dry then. Works like a charm. I never bother with machine wash or Woolite hand wash.

I did the same with my FJ StaSof Winter gloves once, and it ruined them. Leather seized up and wouldn’t soften up. Never again.

I was a dedicated Mizuno elite guy for a very long time.

I used to get 6-8 rounds out of a glove

I tried Red Rooster last year, and found them to both more comfortable and much more durable.

I alternated 2 Red Roosters for the last 2 1/2 months of the season (20 plus rounds) with no issues. They are both still in good enough shape to be "range" gloves.

My hand tends to sweat a lot so I generally go through 2 gloves a round. My cart has a velcro strip and I hang gloves there to dry out. I'll rotate these gloves until there's a wear pattern in the palm. My sense is that the gloves last 3-4 months this way. However, these gloves are then relegated to practice and I'll wear them until there's a hole.

The simple answer is as long as possible.  During the summer I typically use a rain glove and when it isn’t as humid a regular glove.  I play weekly plus a few extra rounds so about  55 rounds a year.  I have been playing the rain and regular groove for the last 2 seasons.  Both seem fine so no need to replace yet.  
 

I’m cheap so I expect them to last as long as possible.  I’m happy if they last a season. 
 

no storage unit, I just strap them to my alignment sticks when it take it off.

I have never really tracked my use rate... but I would estimate that I go through 4 or 5 gloves a year and I play ~100-110 rounds a year.  So what is that... 20-22 rounds per glove?

I don't have a carrier for my gloves, and usually lay them as flat as I can in the side pouch of my bag.  My favorite glove for feel is the Titleist Players, but it wears faster than performance style gloves.  A few years back, MyGolfSpy Most Wanted crowned the Mizuno Elite, the best.. a few years in a row I believe.  I started playing them almost exclusively (half the price of the T-Players too).  The only drawback on that glove was the velcro closure that seemed to pull loose more often than I liked.  But the feel was good, fit will to my hand (another key I'll talk about below) and wore really well through the punishment I put it through.  Recently, I have been wearing the TaylorMade Stratus Tech as a value buy, not completely happy with them as the fit seems to be a bit off.

In Houston TX, and the humidity that is or summer norm, my glove gets wet.  Not as much from my hand or arm, but from wiping my brow with the back of my glove hand.  So, for the most part... even as hot as it is... the club contact to the glove stays pretty dry, but the rest of the glove can be wet.  I think we all have put on a crunchy glove at times (a few days in the trunk after a hot round, crumpled up in the ball pouch.... ah youth), and leather doesn't do well when it is wet..... dried in the kiln that is the trunk.... and then asked to stretch again over the hand and fingers.... RIP (both literally... rip..  and figuratively...R.I.P. haha).  

As I mentioned above, fit is the key for me.  Not just in how I can feel my club, because that is REALLY important... but also in how a glove does... or doesn't wear out.  An ill fitting glove slides around on my hand, and therefor allows the club/grip to slide around in my hand.  I would say that a majority of my holes are caused from a loose fitting glove.  I buy my gloves a size small and always cadet (short fingers, but I also hate that flap of leather at the end of my finger... again... poor fit).  the first swing or two might feel too snug... but the leather stretches and with the natural moisture being applied to the glove... it starts to form to the hand shape - this is more effective when the glove is a little small and stretching, than a little big and you are needing it to shrink in places. 

Anyway... those are my glove thoughts.

I can't recommend these gloves enough:   (Amazon) New Improved 2X Long Lasting Bionic RelaxGrip Golf Glove with Patented Double-Row Finger Grip System .   $17.99.    They last-- I don't know-- 6 to 8 months or more.   And I play 4 to 6 times a week.   I would guess 50 rounds on a pair, but it may be more because I have some on my driving range/launch monitor in the garage that are probably more than a year old and still working.  

They feel good-- not synthetic (to me).    You can actually throw them in the washing machine if they get too soiled.  They just wear like IRON.  And then there is the grip system with little channels and pads built into the grip that improve the grip on the club and let you relax your hands.  This helps to release the club and also decreases the joint pain.   I will never use any other glove.

Mine last til they get a hole(usually in the heel of the hand)- I wrap them around my Orange Whip after the round to dry out. I alternate between different Callaway versions

As long as there are not any holes in the glove and when I put my hand in it loosens up with a little sweat or a touch of water. When it no longer meets these requirements I move on, and by move on, it goes in the random side pocket as an emergency glove. It will move on from the position when I'm cleaning my bag out for a golf trip or a big round at a nice course.

I don't wear one so mine last a long, long time.  But I don't have any issues with sweaty hands, even in humid conditions.  But I do have rain gloves for the absolute wet conditions.  A "requirement" in the Pacific Northwest for playing between November and March.  These gloves I have yet to replace after two years but then they aren't needed for or don't get more than a dozen or so rounds a year.

I rotate gloves during the round. Due to my hands perspiring. Number of gloves depends on heat and humidity. Usually 2-4. I use Kirkland gloves and go through 8-12 per year for between 45-70 rounds per year. I keep the ones I am using on a velcro strip on my bag and push cart. No feeling like new fresh golf gloves. So I dispose of them as soon as they get a little slick. Keep some older ones for the range.

When I wore synthetic gloves, I played until they got a hole. Now that I use leather, I notice they stretch out before ripping. I'll wear the one glove and get 15-20 rounds out of it, but I would expect at least a dozen rounds out of any glove I purchase. 

Currently I use the Srixon Z Cabretta glove. To me a glove is a glove (as long as it's the same material) so I always look for value. My pro gave me some, then I found a special and bought half a dozen in 2021, and I still have 3 left.

I will use a glove until it gets a hole in it or it gets too stretched out. I tried the Kirkland gloves and really liked them. Then I tried the master grip gloves and for the price you can't beat them. They wear well and don't get stretched out after just a few rounds. At 7.99 each I can't pass them up.
