What Brands/Products Do You Want To See for Member Testing 2024?

Really good suggestions across the board - having been bitten by the testing bug this past year, I understand the buzz.  What would I like to see tested - we’ll all the obvious - OEMs (based on their cycles), DTC (which seems to be its own juggernaut), PLM gear, lesser known clothing lines, etc.  In reality - I love seeing the variety and how the community interacts to encourage and at times pay it forward…

WITB? Ping G400 SFT w/Aldila Mamba shaft R flex; Ping G410 3w; Ping G400 3h(19), 4h(22), 5h(26); TaylorMade SLDR 5i (interchanges w/5h)-PW -stock graphite shafts Rflex; INDI FLX-S wedges (50, 54, 58) w/Recoil graphite shafts -Rflex and Odyssey AI-One 7T BD Milled (aka Millie), ball choice tends to be Pro-V1 or simliar 3pc urethane balls.

I love it all! I'm interested in anything you do. Especially though: club testing and electronic devices such as range finders, gps and launch monitors. And as others mentioned, DTC branded items as golf stuff is getting ridiculously expensive. Happy New Year to All!

I'd love to see the new Ping G730 and perhaps other SGI irons (Taylormade Stealth HD or PXG 0211Z come to mind). Also like to see the new Ping i159 wedges tested.

Ping G400 Max 10.5* - Kuro Kage HBP Black Gen 2, 44.5" length

Ping G425 SFT 5W (19*) - Alta CB Slate SR flex

Ping G430 5H (26*), 6H (30*) and 7H (34*)- Alta CB 70 regular flex

Ping G710 8i-W - Recoil 80 F3 shaft (1)

Cleveland CBX4 50* and 58*, Smart Sole 4C - Recoil 95 F3 shaft

Odyssey Original 2-Ball White Hot counterbalanced (lead tape in the head, Super Stroke grip with 50-gram weight)

Other: Vice Pro or Maxfli Tour; Shot Scope X5; True Linkswear; Callaway Org 7 bag; Clicgear 3.5+

It would be nice to see DTC fairway woods, higher lofted in 5 w or 7w range if possible.  It's pretty easy to find used major brands at 2nd swing or other places to try out but rarely do you find DTC brands there.

It would be interesting to see a comparison between a similar yardage hybrid and fairway wood reviewed by the same tester.

Please test some of the putting aids. specifically ones that can be used on practice greens.
I see pros using the mirrored ones.
What about the mirror and gate?
Are using tees on the practice green just as effective?

I don’t know how this could work, but some sort of fitted vs not fitted test would be really interesting. Not sure how the logistics of that would go, but it would be cool to see someone try something “off the rack” and get some stats, then go get fit and see the before and after.

This was something I thought of a while back, so I'm bringing it back up again: box set test! Or if people are turned off by the idea of Box Set, go with Adams and their complete sets. One could imagine if Cobra Connect comes back again for another year, a competition between those who get fully fit out against those with Adams sets.

Also, and I know it's not going to be for everyone, but with the Smart Speaker space growing and golf course music becoming slightly more commonplace, maybe something in that space like from Bushnell, Blue Tees or Precision Pro

Boxed set stats vs current gamers would be a VERY interesting test for sure.

Not sure how I forgot about Adams, but I would sign up to test those new irons in a hot minute. I guess they'd fall under the DTC umbrella at this point.

I wish there was a lefty only company that has something new and exciting. Maybe there is, but I haven't found them yet.

When my wife asked if I wanted to leave Maine and move to where she grew up, I couldn't say no to Pinehurst, NC. I honestly don't spend much money on golf equipment, but I'm constantly reading reviews in case I ever get ready to buy

I swing left handed and have been the State of Maine Left Hander's champion since 1997, the last year they held the tournament. I'm currently a 7.1 handicap. Trying to get lower, but my gut gets in the way.

So many DTCs or smaller brands. I’d love to see testing for all of these:

Bombtech

Byrdie Golf Design

Caley Golf

Fourteen Golf

Giga Golf

Haywood

Kirkland

Lazrus

Maltby

MD Golf

New Level

Piretti

PXG

Robin Golf

SMT

Stix

Sub70

Takomo

Any others I missed…

Golf balls by Cut, Mynt, Piper Golf, Quantix, RZN Golf, SaintNine, Seed Golf, Snell, and Sniper Golf.

I’d also like to see a mini-driver vs 3 wood test (not that there are too many mini-drivers to test) to do a distance/accuracy comparison both off the tee and off the ground.

A simulator net/bay test would also be cool.

What about digital projectors? With so many PLMs and home setups being built out, what projector do I need to buy? How many Lumens/ANSI do I need? Would be interesting to see if the less than $100 options compare to ones specifically designed for golf.

I think having forum members who are fairly new to the game test out a box set of clubs versus whatever they currently have could be very intriguing. I think every beginner has that desire to get the most bang for the buck when they first start out.

How about a data comparison between like item winners from the last year 3 years for anything that is being evaluated.  With the restrictiveness of the rules the windows for improvement seem to be closing to minimal gains.  The most important thing for my game may be very different than what another player may be looking for.  I may want the straightest ball, iron or driver and someone else may be looking for gear that will draw or fade more easily.  We need to know if the new gear is better than what we could pick up cheap from the last year or more.

I would also like to see more japanese forged irons.

How about some boutique brands of putters, wedges and irons.

This might be too obvious an answer but all the new hotness (as the kids would say)

It seems like every year something new comes out and enters the ring.  Thats what I’m most curious about.

I want to see how good these Olson putters are.

I want to see what the KRANK driver is all about. (I believe this is already being tested)

Secondary I am always curious about all those companies who spend money on targeted ads. Example  ( bombtech, lucky, pyramid)

Everyone stinks, yes even the pros. Have fun

I'd like to see you add the Sugar Pure balls back into your ball testing.  I've been using them for the past year and love the way they hit/feel.  I've given them to some of my golfing buddies and they have liked them too.  I know your testing of the original Sugar balls wasn't too favorable, but I think the Pure ball would fare a lot better.  And I'm curious to see how it stacks up against the rest, especially since their price point is half the cost of a ProV1.  As balls get more and more expensive, the average golfer has to find ways to keep the cost manageable, yet still play with quality equipment.

Oh, and while I'm asking, check out the Claw glove by Caddy Daddy.  Awesome glove that has great grip, never gets crusty and lasts forever!  I have one in my bag that is over two years old and other than wear on the palm still does the job.  I also have one of their travel bags that is very well made and travels well and they just came out with a golf bag that looks awesome.

Thanks for all you do to help educate us!

I would love to see a comparison test of two wedges by 2 OEM companies tested side by side with the same loft.  Example: a Vokey 56 vs  TM 56 wedge.  Or a Ping vs Titleist Hybrid.  Seeing what Testers like and do not like about each wedge / hybrid.  I think the reviews would be more interesting.

Home simulator equipment. The ongoing Rapsado test is very illuminating as the kinks are worked out. Those testers and other contributors have one of the best test threads going.

While it doesn’t require much user testing, would like annual articles on value sets, new and used, for moderate and slow swing golfers. Note I don’t consider pastel sets with a one wood to be a value or useful. Even an 11 club set from 2 or 3 companies for a beginning slow swing golfer as a suggestion is not promoted enough. 14 is overkill.

Extensive testing on LAB putters and Odyssey AI as well. Comparing the 2.

What to look for in a putter fitting.

DTC vs Srixon and Mizuno. Which is the most forgiving. ZX5, Pro 225, etc.

Steel vs graphite shafts. For weight and accuracy mostly. I know the good graphite shafts are expensive but my next set will hopefully stay in my bag for a while...

Thanks!

The first bit is more of an HQ thing vs forum testing. While it is slightly different year over year there are data points you can refernce to see where clubs improved etc. Tricky part I see with that is the different stock shaft options that come available each season and what fits who best.

Japanese - email out but zero responses. Not really surprised, but we continue to try.
Boutique brands - some emails out, most have responded with this isn't their niche and prefer other methods vs testing as it isn't always the performance vs aesthetic etc with them.
