When Do You Normally Golf? (Times/Days)

GolfSpy_APH

Recommended Posts

For me I only have a Sundays off of work so that’s the morning I usually go out or Monday morning! The first tee time is normally when I get to get out! So the first hole is normally hit and pray it’s light enough to see! And then power threw and get home to the kids before they wake up or shortly after! This year my wife bought me some Lessons so hopefully get some more time in!  But I can normally just pop over to the park with my wife and kids and have her walk them in the wagon and I’ll go play the par three course! But once a year I get to have a golf weekend in Wisconsin here where I go to one of the hotels and play a different course! So golf is really on a whim all the time!

I play in a Wednesday evening league from May-September. Once school gets out I try to play weekday mornings and only occasionally on the weekends. I am also able to play at Arbor Links where I caddy but typically only in the evening after the last groups have gone out. I'll take 9 holes on that course every chance I get.

This all dependant on the time of year for me, Nov - Feb is SIM after work or weekends. Feb - Early June weekends only unless I have a day off or maybe 9 holes after work in June. June - August 9 holes after work and sometimes 18 when the days are long, weekends primarily. And then weekends August through Oct/Nov. Generally always in the later afternoon, I try to avoid the heat and nobody seems to start afterwards. Mornings are generally not great, I like golfing in the mornings, but my bodies routine has a harder time.

I like golf. You should like golf. If life is tough, play more golf!

Having a career that included stints in managing multinational manufacturing plants and later a job in retail, I've always been an early riser.  So, it's not a surprise that I'm up early and ready for golf at the break of daylight.  Our course's men's league plays Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the set of first tee times each day.  Once a month, our Lower Keys Golf Association has a fund-raising event to support junior golf and the Key West High School golf team that I play in.  Throw in a few charity and other course sponsored tournaments during the year, and I estimate I get in over 150 rounds a year.  Those tournament tees times are typically much later...7:30 AM!

Being retired, I can play anytime.  However, living full time in Key West most of the year it's a blessing to be teeing off as early as possible.  It gets pretty hot and humid March through October, so an early tee time helps beat the heat.  Plus, after finishing between 10 AM and 11 AM, I head home, go out to lunch with my wife and have the rest of the day to enjoy the other advantages of living in the Keys.

Life is good!

Spring & summer weekdays, I try to hit the range by 4:30 and tee off by 5-5:15. In the fall, I skip the range and try to tee off as soon as possible - chasing daylight with twilight fall golf.  I also play afternoons on weekends - the crowd thins out and pace of play at my club is better later in the day on weekends.

Winter - depending on the day.  I live south of Boston - some courses open year round if there's no snow. If the temp is over 40, we're good to go. Winter golf is best mid-day when temps are highest.  A sunny winter day in the 40's with some swing oil and heck, might as well be in Florida.

I try to get a round in on Friday’s early when the weather allows here in the Buckeye state. If I can get out in the evening in spring and summer with my 2 boys that like to golf we’ll squeeze in what we can before sundown. Saturday or Sunday 9 with the 2 goofballs again because less people out there and more time for them to hit and try different things. I’d like to play a bit more during the week but alas work does not allow for that currently.

I’ve got a bad reeling about this

I look for the earliest tee time I can get on the weekends. I like to be out first and finish first. Friday I got the first tee time and finished in 3 hours and 40 minutes. With no one to slow me down, I feel like I play better when I play quick. Less time to think about the shots you have to hit.

I try to avoid weekends as much as possible. If I do play on a weekend I go around 230-ish where I can sneak in a round and most people are clearing out.

My main days are Tuesday through Thursday around 10-11 start. I avoid teeing off after lunch because that’s when a lot of folks are entertaining people. So it can get a bit slow.

We had a conversation as staff a little while back about when we can normally play……

Are you a weekend golfer? Twilight round golfer? Retired so anytime all the time? Or something in between?

What makes it easier for you to fit golf into your schedule? Do you schedule it out so it is set or is it on a whim?

Being “mostly”’retired, lots of volunteer stuff/honey-do’s, golf is mostly Tues or Thurs (my son, pretty much my regular golf partner, works shift so we plan around his days off).  There are the Fridays when I join in the men’s Friday scramble or a good friend who likes to play 9 in the afternoon about once a week.  It’s never planned more than two days out.  I guess all that was to say “flexible tee times for me - mainly mornings when it’s my son, afternoons when with my friend and whenever when I am solo….

Before I retired, I had a set schedule of playing every Sat and Sun morning.  Now I plan my golf around the weather and play 2 - 3 a week.  I like to play early, sometimes being the first person or group off.  By playing early, that gives me time in the afternoon to get some other things accomplished.

If I manage to get out during the week it’s usually for a quick 9 holes usually around 3-3:30pm. On the weekends I like morning tee times if possible. In the southern eastern NC summers it’s early in the morning or late afternoon. No damn hot here.

Tuesday evening is league night for 9 holes and then saturday or sunday evening for as many holes as possible.

I dont play weekend mornings if i can avoid it because of slow play.  I dont have the patience necessary.  After about 3 hrs of waiting between shots it isnt fun any more and i have mentally checked out.

I have been retired now for over ten years. My buds and myself will schedule every Monday to go to the range to hit about 100 balls.  At this range there is also  a micro brewery that serves the best wings and beer in the area. Also try  to hit the links at least twice a week, plus practice sessions at a course near by.

I like to tee off around 8 AM at my home course. If a different course, will still try for 8-ish, but it will depend on available tee times. I am retired so I I try to avoid weekend crowds.

Thursdays early as possible! That is typically the best time for met to get out. Then every other weekend. If I do get out other than Thursday its on a whim and at whatever time as long as my schedule is freed up. Have a little leeway with times but I always get my Thursday morning round in.

The starters at my home course know me well enough that I don’t have to book a tee time - they send me off by myself on Sunday mornings about 10 minutes before the first tee time on the books, so just as the sun is peaking over the horizon.  Nine holes, in a cart, by myself means I’m home before my wife has had her first cup of coffee…

My standing tee time is "it depends."

I have two different groups I usually play with.  The first usually only plays 9 holes so I'll walk my home course with them at 12:30 any day of the week except Saturday (too crowded).  The other group likes to go to a variety of courses within about a one hour drive which usually means tee times between 10:00-11:00 (one of our particularly budget conscious members has a favorite course but he won't tee off there before 11:00 because the "free" hot dog at the turn is for times from 11:00 on).

If I am playing alone, I prefer mornings (7:30-9:00).

Normally after work after 5 pm through the week. We can get in at least 9 holes. Weekends are going to be tougher this year. My kids are getting older and more interested in other hobbies.

Since we moved into the golf course community the courses here run all year at a 2 shotgun starts a day. Although I like early in the morning here during the winter months I do not complain about not being plagued with 2 hour frost delays. So I play the men's league that goes off with the second shotgun 12:30 winter hours and 11:30 summer hours. During the heat of the summer I like to go out after the pro shop closes, say 2:30 in the afternoon. At temperatures over 100 degrees I don't walk, but the course is 99% empty then and in good shape. So I zip through 18 in a couple of hours and 2 gallons of water. Here in the winter the Wild Bunch goes out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I try to get out one day on the weekend on the par 62 executive course to work on my short game as well.

6 Days a week!!

Despite being a senior in high school, I only take one college class per day via a dual-enrollment program. My daily schedule goes something like this-

7:30-12:00 work (just so happens to be at golf course)

12:30-1:45 Class

2:00-whenever — Golf. Golf. Golf.

I usually take Saturdays off to spend time with friends and family, the course is usually too crowded anyways.

I play Tuesday-Friday in the afternoon after wrapping up all (or most) of my work. When the days are longer that usually means a 3 or 3:30 tee time. Right now I have to get out a little earlier than that to chase daylight. On the weekends I don’t have a set schedule but will play at least one round at some point, often Sunday afternoon.

On Monday our course is closed so that’s my “rest” day from golf, but also the day I usually work out the hardest since I’m not also playing 18 holes.

I usually play in the morning but I'm certainly not a first off the tee guy.  Prefer something around 8:30-9:00 as I like to spend some time warming up including some putting and chipping.  I have a regular neighborhood group that plays Tues and Thurs but also mix in at least 1-2 more times a week depending how busy I am with family, etc..  Nice to be retired. 🙂

Still playing here in PA in spite of the winter.  Been trying to get out 1-2 times per week weather permitting.

I typically try to play mid-week and tee off earlier between 7-10. I rarely play on weekends, maybe 1 or 2 times a year, just too slow, and I like to walk. Sometimes play 9 in the afternoon when I get the urge.
