How'd you play?

After having two stellar weeks where I felt my game was back to PKSD (pre-kids single digit) levels (not including the spy meetup at Kingsmill ), the proverbial wheels fell off. Not only the wheels, but the engine blew up and suspension broke🤦‍♂️

Standing on the 9th hole of my weekly league, all I could mutter was WTH, where did it all go wrong? The one highlight was a lone par in the middle of the 9 hole stretch.

The feel for putts disappeared, driving was all over the place and irons - we won't even talk about that.  If you have seen me you would of thought I just picked up clubs yesterday. Penalties piled up like car crashes on a foggy morning.

The most frustrating part was the night before, the swing was in tune at the range; the hour before, the putting was sharp on the practice green...I just don't know where it all went wrong.

I definitely ran the gamut of emotions mostly on the frustration side.  Driving home, all I could think of is WTH.

I thought I finally figured out this game, but I guess not. This game is truly humbling...

This described my last weekend to the T.  My tempo was off and that made my swing feel like stretched and knotted up Slinky. I at least putted decent. Not that it mattered. Check your tempo, you will work through it!

Incredible recovery shots are set up by an equally incredible miss.

I don't claim to be a club distance expert . . .  but I think I'm supposed to have more than a 3 yard gap between Driver and 7 wood?

Although, maybe a good test would be to see if I hit the 5 wood 217 and the 3 wood 218 . . .

@Mike10487 - thanks for the tip!  Sadly even the putter wasn't working that night.  Usually if one facet of the game doesn't work, the other two facets do and make up for it a little.  That night, it was like I just picked up a club for the first time, LOL.

Off the tee my driver is avg 220. The 3w off the tee is 190-210.  In the fairway my 3w will go further than that. (When hit pure)

So we’re about 5th off the other morning and the first group is a 4-some- and they are slow as molasses- the kind of guys that do everything that’s possible to play slow, all drive to one ball and wait for that guys seven practice swings, quadruple aiming sequences, then hacks it- then they all carry their towel and what have you onto the green, walk back and forth, straddle their line, aim point, plumbbob, then either leave it ten feet short or go ten feet long, and start all over-

they single-handed destroyed the course for the entire day by turning it into a 5-hour round with no one in front of them-

Im sure one of them was named bob-

Parts of the game coming along nicely others not so much.  But never the same parts.  Three days ago driver didn't want to corporate, but wedges and putter were in fire. Yesterday driver was on fire didn't miss a single fairway but wedges took the day off. This morning no iron wanted to work but driver was super on wedges were 50/50.  But the weather was beautiful at 5 all three days so that is always nice.

Played again this morning, walked Swope Memorial (Par 72, 68.7/125, 5770yds) and shot a 90 (47 front/43 back). Fast round, right at 3hrs, and I was playing army golf today (left, right, left, right) so it was tough keeping up with the regulars. Really happy with how I corrected my game some over the back 9, managing under 36 putts with these tough greens, and my performance off the tee-box. However, my wedge game is currently in shambles with the biggest issue being distance control lately.

Shot 40 this morning,  bogeyed 18 which I usually par if not birdie all the time and it cost me to break 40. I birdied 3 for a good skin and my partner and I won our side match and I won low score so it wasn't too bad of a morning. Most of us in the east are going to be in a heat wave next week so make sure you stay safe and keep hydrating.

No I get that part of what makes the game fun and frustrating all at the same time. I just wish one part of my game could stay some what consistent, not driver 320 one day down the middle and then the very next day 260 in whatever direction it decides to go, or wedges spinning back or rolling out as I want and the next doing the very opposite of what I'm intending.  But right now I'm trying to just focus on the next shot and forget about the last ones trying to get out of my head.  It's hard though when I'm standing in waist deep grass trying to hit the next shot

Spent a week working at the VA Hospital in Lake City FL dispensing eyeglasses so I didn't pick up a club in a week.  So, first round back, my course freshly aerated, large tines, full of sand, shot 78 from our tournament blue/white tees with 8 one putts and 2 consecutive birdies.  In my 46 years of playing, I've only had consecutive birdies 3 times.

As an optician it's rewarding working with veterans designing Rx glasses so they can enjoy golf without their reading areas interfering with their vision.

I hit the ball often, but play when ready, carry my putter to the next tee and rake the bunkers like I was never in .

I played 18 at my local muni today, and I am pleased with the results.  My driver, for the most part, performed well.  54 degree through 9 Iron did likewise.  8 iron through 6 iron was neither very good nor very bad, kind of like a yawn.  LOL.  5 and 4 iron could have performed better, but I cannot blame the club but I sure would like to.  My putting was average; stable but not exciting.  I am happy that I did not have any double bogeys, but neither did I have any birdies.  I was able to use my new Cleveland Launcher Halo XL 4 + Hy-Wood, and I know I need to spend some more time with it to dial it in as I want.  I did not do horrible with it, but I know I can do better.  Ending with a 6 over is not the best I have ever done, but it certainly better than I have been playing lately.  At the end of the front nine I was 2 over and was starting to think I could be heading to a new personal best, but I fell apart on the back.  Again, that is on me.

Two rounds over two days.  Same score, but one is much better than the other.  41/44 85 at Woodley lakes & 43/42 at Angeles National.  The wave of great play has crested and I'm seeing a bit of old game peak through on approach.  There's been some struggle, but I wouldn't call it a full step back yet.

Woodley was my first tournament in three months and it showed.  I had a hard time quieting my mind and had my worst day on approach in two months.  Only two GIR for the day and a little wild off the tee.  It's 100% mental I was overthinking everything rather than assessing and reacting.   The good news was that there wasn't a single hole that I did not have a par putt & my short game and putting mostly helped me out.  3 up and downs and 29 putts total.  A 0-putt 'texas' wedge birdie really helped that putt total.   Truth be told it wasn't that bad, but it felt pretty terrible having scored no higher than 80 for the last 7 rounds.

Angeles National was a spur of the moment deal.  I had both morning meetings cancel and all the Munis were booked.  Angeles is very pricey on the weekend (normally a hard no in my book) but wanting to play, and empty tee sheet, an deciding to treat myself for fathers day overruled me.  Played solo and finished in 3 hours (could have been faster but I had to get through 4 groups of 4 along the way)   Started with the same bad approach play.  Lots of blind approach at Angeles national and its hard to quiet your mind and just aim for the center of the green, but got it under control.  Off the tee I was very accurate with 12/14 Fairways.  Better with GIR at 7/18.  Bang on average with 33 putts (two three putts), but I'm just not missing by much to get up and down.  If I can stop over reading break I'll be in business.  The only messes off the day were off of two forced carries and bad club selection.  Lots to like about today.

True to form, I played 9 holes this afternoon. I do like early afternoons vs early mornings. So much easier to swing a club when the muscles get warmed up enough. Upper 70's, mild wind, total sunshine, just beautiful out there in mid Michigan. Shot 37 so I was pretty happy. 2 bogies, 1 birdie and 6 pars. I saw some possible improvement areas, so it's exciting to strive for better. Only hit 50% of fairways but the misses were all within 10-12 feet. That's exciting. Hit 6 /9 greens. Misses weren't as tight as I would have liked but my chips helped save par a number of times. Overall really decent day.

Ooof that is tough.  I hate those rounds, but, that being said, if you have a tournament to play play behind a group like that to get used to the pace of play.

I had a mediocre round yesterday. Front nine was dead on (4 over 40 with two lip out puts) and as I re-wetted my towel in the restroom at the turn my "feel" for the shots swirled down the drain with the excess water. The back I shot a 47 with a combination of no hip turn drives and three golf god punishment ob shots. First was a poor drive that left me on the right next to a boundary wall. My next shot, a low punch, clipped a tree branch and bounced the ball out.  Second ob was a bounce off of, and I kid you not, a -most likely- accidentally dropped water bottle that shot the ball 30 yards left and over a six inch boundary wall.  We found the bottle split with the cap seal unbroken and still leaking water on the edge of the fairway. The last was a par 3 sprinkler head monster bounce to a cart path to the road behind the hole.

But that is golf sometimes. I felt for the guy who dropped that full bottle of water. It was 110 when I got home yesterday (I live just off of the 17th fairway) and, that is too hot to lose a full bottle of water on the course.

I had an early tee time this morning at Shepard's Crook golf course in Zion, IL basically on the border of Wisconsin. I have played this course one other time earlier this year, but the greens were aerated and it was before the official season started. The conditions were much better today and the weather was perfect. I'm a big fan of this course; it has a great layout that's fun, yet challenging.

I shot an 80 today (38-42) from the tips, which were playing about 6800 yards. The 38 on the front was my best nine of the year so far and I was very happy with my performance. To start the back nine, I started overthinking things and went double-double on 10 and 11. Luckily I was able to shake that off and get back in a groove, but those two holes definitely hindered the sub-80 score today.

Overall, I'm really happy with how I played today. My putting was also great, with a long birdie on the par five 9th hole and great speed control on some fast greens. It really feels like my game is coming together, which is awesome ahead of an Arcadia Bluffs trip next weekend and Erin Hills the weekend after.

Playing again on Juneteenth so will see y'all then for the next round!

Humbling day today.  Didn't play bad but had 3 holed that killed my score. 3 doubles will do it every time!

Get to play a private course tomorrow and looking forward to the difference in conditions and skill required.

Managed to squeeze 9 in after GC duties with a coworker whom I won't be able to play golf with anymore due to the department swapping everyone around onto different squads. He has come a long way on his game too! (We started playing together as just a cheap round of Whack-F#%k)

Anyway, I had a great round and was truly impressed that he stayed within reach of beating me!  It was 104⁰ out when we started the round.

I had a great opportunity at eagle today and blew it by 3 putting. Drive was 235 in, hit the 4hy and it rolled up the green past thr pin by 40 feet! Super fast downhill putt, tried like heck to lag it close, but it caught the second tier downside slope and had 20 feet back up the hill.  Shorted it by a foot, tapped in for par.

Driver was a mess today for me, but approaches and wedges were on fire! Putting was actually decent!

No time for pictures as we had a full course today.  Did snag some this morning though before my shift.

I can taste that sub 85 round coming soon!!!

I got tired of shooting the same 78-82 over the last four years so I finally took the plunge with lessons this year.  I've had five so far and it's been a bumpy ride.

Today things started to click and I shot my 2nd best score ever.  Very weird round with 5 birdies and an eagle, but also a double and three bogeys for a 70.  My previous best for birdies/eagles in a round was a total of four, so I blew that out of the water.

Played 18 with my dad today to celebrate Father’s Day. Struggled putting all day long and the 95 degree heat wasn’t helping. However, the driver and woods were HOT today. Multiple 270+ drives which isn’t normal for me. Just really need to work on my approach game because proximity to hole is pretty bad right now and I believe is costing me quite a few strokes
