This game..

two 74’s and I’m on top of it all, then bam, and 82 today and that’s after crushing every drive dead center. Suddenly I’m absolutely inept…

That why they call it golf and we all have or had day jobs!

Play like a champion today!

First round of the season yesterday and it was SO great to be outside.  My son and I went after school - it was 88deg here and windy and sunny!

For the first round of the year I felt great about how I played.  Overall the conditions were pretty good for first day the course was open.  Fairways were rock hard, lots of roll, but greens were soft and slow.  Longer than typical grass on greens (no mowing yet) made judging speeds tough.  lots of 3 putts.

Overall score - 49 on a par 35, started with a few bad shots on first two holes (2OB shots on one hole)

3 shots OB - couple of bad tee shots cost me there

Total Putts - 21

On the 3 par 3's, played 1-over - really happy with my iron shots to greens overall

One birdie on par 5 making a 15 ft putt

Lots to work on but lots of fun too!!

I jogged the first 9 (not gonna lie I kind of enjoyed doing that) and I finished very quickly never had to really look for a ball helped. Now I have this bug that I just want to play at noon every day if I can get out as a single lol

Its why I play first thing in the morning by myself getting done in 2:30 walking is the best, and yeah sometimes the walking gets quick to get going faster.

Played the front-9 at Heather Ridge GC in Aurora, CO. I felt pretty good going into it but oh man was I wrong... You would have thought the fairways were made of water with the way I was smacking balls into lakes! On the bright side, I didn't hit a single double bogey - only 3 triples, 3 singles, and 3 pars LOL. With the stats I had you would think it was a much better 9 but sometimes that's the way golf goes. Playing the same 9 again this afternoon so I'll update this post with the same front-9 score again and see how different they are.

First front-9

4 Fairways, 4 Greens, 21 putts, +12

------------------------------------------------------------

Well that didn't go much better... I have been feeling way to uncomfortable over the ball lately. I am working on going I>O with my swing path while I'm figuring out the draw my miss is becoming a pull-draw and resulting in going way left, so that's is creating a doubt when I line up to the ball.

Second front-9

3 Fairways, 2 Greens, 20 putts, +12

Updated this post with the second day of playing the same 9. I will happily accept some solicited advice on how to confidently turn my pull into a push draw (helpful videos always welcome)

You ever make it to the Western Slope? There's a course in Grand Junction you gotta try (if you haven't already)- Redlands Mesa. The scenery is breathtaking and the course definitely isn't one of the easier ones I've played. Tiara Rado is kinda fun- but a LOT of the fairways are lined w houses (protected by chicken wire or whatever else they can think of). Adobe Creek is kinda fun too- 3 separate 9 hole tracks ( I recommend Mesa and Monument). Again- the scenery is beautiful and the courses are a good test

Owen and I played the back nine at River Heights again.  They're working on fixing the irrigation this year starting with some holes on the front nine so we'll continue playing just the back for the near future.  A much slower round today as there were a couple groups in front of us.  Slow is relative as we're usually very fast.

We noticed that the threesome leading the way consisted of the current course champ, the course record holder, and a third guy who is also no slouch.  As a lot of the back nine runs alongside itself, we were able to watch them play a bit.  There's levels to this game, man.

We played pretty well today.  Nice warm sunny day and it feels like our normal distances were just about back.  I used the new Shot Scope X5 watch for the first time; probably should have read the manual first.

I started with a double on the first hole after dunking one in the pond, then ran off three straight pars.  Then an ugly double and a triple before a birdie on sixteen.  Actually chipped in off the green with my short hybrid (I really love that club!) for my first hole out from off the green of the year.

Parred seventeen and an ugly double on eighteen to finish with a 44 (+8).  Beat Owen by two strokes and oddly didn't have a single bogey.  Best score of the season so far 🙂.

When I am walking alone and nobody is in front of me I have completed in 90 minutes so about 10 minutes a hole on average between the Par 3s and Par 5s.  A little slower in rain when I usually have the course to myself because of the umbrella on the push cart holder making sure it doesn't suffer from shock loading.

Played Pinehurst #4 today. Started strong, +1 on the front nine…but as it warmed up and play slowed I started to lose focus. Made a double on the 13th, then two bogeys on 15and 17. Saved the par on 18 for a 40.
67th round of the year today…going to take a couple of days off. I’ve walked 46 of those rounds…mathematically I’ve walked just over 250 miles. My dogs were barking today as I finished!

Lol… there certainly are. Good thing is, a handicap evens things out a bit. It’s often not a problem either, unless the high capper is brutally slow with every shot, or the low capper is joe PGA, and even slower on every shot.

We play every morning and always the first group out. Somewhere between 2 and 4 of us, We all know each other’s rhythms and usually play “ready golf”.

todays round took 2hours and 45 min. My partner nosed me out 74-75. I can’t imagine playing a 4-5 hour round anymore

Found my iron swing again today, after leaving it in the truck yesterday. Up and downs were meh, a few good, a few not as good.

its a skill that professionals own, and that I don’t. If I could find time to really practice, that is where I would concentrate… that and longer sand shots. If I try a softer swing, and try to pick it, I either skull it, or fat it. If I try to hit it normall, I don’t make it out, and have to hav another hack at it, and it becomes an instant bogie…

I have similar problems so I spend most of my practice time on my 9iron, unfortunately in NZ we don't have REAL SAND in our bunkers lol . There are a few exceptions tho, I've very slightly opened my grip and hit a much straighter shot and with a slight fade...

I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

I continue my run of absolutely terrible tournament golf.  I may be a 11.5 right now, but I'm playing tournaments like a 20.

48/47 for a cool 95.  I just didn't have any touch or feel today.  Everything was a off and combined with some flat out weird luck my round never really got off the ground.

The greens were at what I've discovered to be a weird speed for me.  No idea what the stimp reading was but they were in that weird spot where its hard to judge if a putt is slippery or slow.  If I'm on either end (fast or slow) I'm fine, but whatever this speed is gives me fits.   What was most irritating was that I was on line and if I'd gotten the speed correct wouldn't have had as bad of a day.

The real issue today though was that my swing was just off, I'd find flashes of it but could not repeat it.  It was just enough to throw contact consistency right out the window.  Case in point I chunked a hybrid 50 yards a par 5 then immediately followed it up with a perfect iron shot onto the green.  Maddening and it happened all day.  Then, as is usual, I discovered the small hitch while setting up for my second shot on 18.  Tilting my hip and locking out my trail leg instead of rotating.  Hit a six iron (with tail wind) 190 yards then followed it up with a 47 to 20 ft.  It was the first time all day that I'd strung two good swings together.  Oh well.

played better than the score indicated, 73 today, 1 birdie, 2 bogeys,  14 GIR, 11 FIR, 30 putts... some makable putts not going in, will spend more time on the practice green tomorrow, get my alignment sticks, putting mirror, chalk line, assorted tees strategically placed, the whole deal....

Wow, what a difference today. Still had some miscues, but outside of the first hole (double bogey) and last hole (really messed this one up, ye olde ⛄, I played bogey golf, which I should've had at least a birdie look if I could chip worth a damn (bogeyed the hole after landing my second shot about 35 yards to the right of the green...). Really sent my driver today, drives of 272 and 264...

Oh well.

sometimes I have to consciously slow my swing down in tournaments, at least off the start, the adrenalin starts pumping too much I guess

What a day!  Played Pinehurst #2 today. Was looking forward to the round. Weather was around 46* when I got there. Warming up at the range started well, but then it seemed I couldn’t hit the ball straight at all. I quickly blamed the sunrise! For those of you who have been there, you’ll recall you hit into the sun in the early morning, it’s blinding!

Enough of this, headed to the 1st tee to meet my playing partners. Three guys from Connecticut. Played the White Tees. Some quick low lights then the highlights. Front nine I hit the driver well, but my 2nd shots all went everywhere! But somehow I was able to make a few pars getting up and down. Through the 1st five holes I was 2 over. 6th hole…disaster! Double! 4 over!

Then the streak started! It just came all together!  Finished the last 3 holes on the front with a par and two birdies. 38! To make this long story shorter, on 10 I made my 3rd birdie in a row. A first for me! Finished the last 8 holes 1 over, had my 4th birdie on the par 3 15th.  36 on the back, overall a 74.  This stat is crazy…I only had 23 putts for the day. Which translates to missing the greens but not by much!

Two Duce coins for my efforts!

Great round! Definitely hoping to get to Pinehurst in the near future. 23 putts is insane from what I've heard about those greens! Hope you got something sick from the proshop to commemorate that round 👍

Great birthday round today! 40/42/82 (gross), 40/41/81 (net). I was so close to breaking 80 again. I just needed to par the 18th (a dead straight par 5) for 78 and ran into trouble right before the finish line. 😞

A wayward 2nd left me with 6-iron off an awkward lie and a blind shot over some trees. I hit the shot pretty good but knew it wouldn’t make the green. When I located my ball it was in an area marked GUR and I had to take relief on the side of a steep hill. This created a very difficult shot up to the green and despite my best effort I couldn’t pull it off. The ball squirted right, and came back down into a penalty area. I then played the ball from the penalty area but was still short of the green. The next shot went through the green and into a bunker. Blasted out and two putts later finished with a 9.

I had the best ball striking day in some time and putted lights out! 8 1-putts, 10 2-putts and 0 3-putts!!! 2 birdies on the day with plenty of opportunities for more. To top it all off the weather and course were absolutely fantastic!
