Think I'm going to skip the gym today and play the back 9. I did play the back 9 today and I hacked it up a bit. Hit the first three fairways and immediately followed it up with horrific approach shots, weak short game, and bad putting. In my own defense on the bad putting, I was running past the hole and not leaving them short. Got comfortable with playing bad (didn't keep score) and hit a few shots including a lucky shot out of sand trap and through a tree that somehow landed on the green. Managed to drop one lucky long putt. Favorite shot of the day was 105 yard 50 degree wedge that I absolutely pured. fixyurdivot
42/43 at Desert Springs today. Great off the tee, approach distances good but aimpoints off, short chips about average, and pretty lackluster putting . Felt great to be out there even tho I didn’t shoot that great! First shot shot off left but luckily sliced back right on the fringe. Second shot wasn’t terrible, just not an ideal lie for my 3rd shot which was a total chunk. Embarrassing. Got out of the sand on my 4th but left it short of the green. Chipped it, got a good bounce but not the position I was hopping for. 1st putt was solid, only 1inch from the cup. 2nd putt was in the cup. Golf is hard. Filming & golfing is harder. Popular Post cksurfdude
Played 9 and had an especially good (i.e. for me, and on a relative basis) tee game day... #1 and #2: good contact, solid hit but a little right .. caught a tree branch and ball got knocked down into the rough, but had playable shots towards the greens. #3 and #5: solid shots high and straight down the left-middle .. almost no rollout tho (too much spin?). But I'll take it! #6: another good contact, good ball flight into the breeze and just made it into the crest of the hill you want to carry to get setup for the next shot. (#4 and #7 are the Par 3s) #8: another really solid strike and with some draw for the longest carry yet and just into the left rough but in a great position for the second shot on this Par 5. #9: best tee shot yet on this hole! Down the left side of the fairway, leaving me a short iron approach. So hopefully this is the start of a new trend towards a new plateau plateau plateau ... A year ago I got down to a 9 HC and have been going the wrong way ever since. I've been seriously considering cancelling my membership and stepping away from the game for a while. It's a bummer because I do love golf, but looking back i'm not sure I've had fun playing for the last six months or so (other than hanging out with the boys). Would save a lot of money and frustration to step away for a while. Could still play once a month or so if i get the itch. Anyone ever stepped away from playing a ton and gotten back into it later? If you're not having fun, take a little break until you want to play again and can enjoy yourself doing it. There have been a couple of times in my life where I played pretty obsessively but when circumstances changed, I stopped playing as much; down to a few times a year. Now that my kids are older and I've retired from playing rugby, I have time to play and I'm taking full advantage of the fact that I live 2 blocks from a golf course. I'm into it heavy now but when I stop enjoying it, I'll stop doing it as much. Popular Post Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Had the worst nine in a long time (57). Mostly self inflicted. Originally I was frustrated but then I pivoted and chalked it up to a bad round that I can learn from. Will at SG later as I didn't get a chance to edit my round yet. TL;DR: Driver was off but went to the range and figured out I was aligning to close to the toe and my mind was compensating by keeping the face open, leading to some bad fades. Learn clock system with wedges. Make sure to have enough speed out of bunkers. Go back to analyzing shot before hitting it and make the smart play. Hole 1: +2 Hit my drive left and short. Had some tree branches but thought if I pitched I wouldn't hit them. I was wrong. Ricocheted into the fairway. Then pitched with my 58 and didn't hit it hard enough. Chipped then to 3ft. Didn't hit the putt hard enough and the slope took it low side. Lesson learned: Loft down and try to flight it lower on branches. Have confidence in wedge speed. Hole 2: +4 This hole started decent. Decent drive, follow up 3w to 60 yards just in front of a greenside bunker. Hit my wedge but thinned it right into the bunker. Then took three shots to get out (ugh). 2 putted from 9'. Lesson learned: Just get the ball out of the bunker. As well, change aim away from trouble incase of a miss hit. I could have just gotten it onto the front of the green. Hole 3: +5 First drive went OB despite aiming in a decent spot, although I did swing a little out of control. Follow up drive was hooked left. Had to hit a recovery pitch with my gap wedge to middle of fairway. On a downslope, fatted my 54, ugh. Then pitched with my 54 over the back of the green. Chipped with my 58 due to down slope and thinned it off the green. Follow up chip with 54 to 6'. Made the putt. Lesson learned: Keep ball in play, so focus on center contact when OB in play. Low point wedges better. No double chips, so either just use one chipping club or practice equally with both. Hole 4: +1. Long par 3. Hit my 7w and drew it into a green side bunker about pin high. Got out and to 9'. Par putt was just right of the hole. tap in bogey. Lesson learned: Putter aim, otherwise this wasn't a poorly played hole. Hole 5: +2 Hit driver over trees and cut a corner with a nice fade. Was 160 out and hit my 7i. Didn't hit it great but still to the front of the green. Hit a poor chip with my 54, leaving a 21' foot putt. Hit it 3' past and through the break. Followup putt was down hill and I froze and pushed it. made the 3rd putt. Lesson learned: No three putts. Have confidence in short putts. Have confidence in where you need to land your chips and dedicate Hole 6: +3 Driver faded OB. Followup drive was right side rough. Then hit a choked up 4w from uphill side lie to an akward shot by a tree. Tried to pitch it on with PW from 100 out but launched to high and hit some branches and fell short. Again, tried a pitch with my 58 and duffed it. Chip with my 54 to 3' and made the putt. Lesson learned: work on pitches with 58 or just stick with your 54 and the higher bounce. Fix your driver (did so on the range). Better aim from side lies Hole 7: +1 Pulled a 6i from 170 out, uphill par three. Akward pitch from a tree area that rolled of the green. Then chipped to 4' and made the putt. Lesson learned: just somehow get it on the green. Hole 8: +1 Hit a beautiful 4w drive to middle of fairway, 90 yards out. Hit a 3/4 54 and it didn't hold the back of the green. Chipped to 6' and just missed long for a tap in. Lesson learned in: Try a clock system with wedges and dial in distances. Hole 9: +3 Driver faded by some trees. Had a shot from 210 out with 7w but fatted it (dropped a second ball and got it up to a green side bunker). 3rd shot was a 6i that went into a green side bunker after clipping some branches, likely on green if it didn't clip. Got out of the bunker but not onto the green. Chipped to 9', left the putt just short. Lesson learned: Speed out of bunker. Face strike with woods. Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I played River Heights today with our buddy Evan from work. Evan is roughly Owen's age and took up golf earlier this year when we convinced him to play our informal work outing. He's pretty decent already given how long he's been playing; might already have a better iron game than me, lol. Pace of play was a bit of a bummer; we were waiting pretty much all day. I had the cart to myself so I spent the time trolling for balls in the rough. Came home with far more than I started with, including a few that I'd never run across before on a course: a Zero Friction, a Piper, and a Vulcan. Owen played great and is very close to finally breaking 80. He was on pace until a blowup on 17 and finished with another 81. He's gotten pretty good at keeping himself out of trouble, something I still struggle with. I struggled a bit with driver early on and after three weak drives I put it away and went with 3 wood off the tee. Worked out great as I hit it consistently about 230-245 and in a pretty good spot every time. My long approach game was mostly decent but my short approach game was hot garbage. Couldn't get an iron on target to save my life. My short game was probably the best it's ever been. Stopped trying to be cute and mostly stuck with safe shots. Putted several times from off the green and hit a few more bump and runs. Didn't hole a putt beyond 3 feet but still had 7 one-putts. Putting was pretty mediocre otherwise. I was playing pretty well myself and had a shot to break 90 until it all fell apart on 16, where I hit two trees and a golf cart before three putting on my way to a quad bogey 9. I finished with a 46/48 94 (+22) and felt pretty good about it. rkj427, sirchunksalot, BallsLeon and 10 others 13 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter

Popular Post GolfSpy_KFT
Was up and down tonight in league play. Striped my first tee shot 260 dead straight, then bladed my 52° approach. Thankfully it’s a scramble. Left the birdie putt 3” short. Didn’t hit many good tee shots after that the rest of the round, some were serviceable but not near as good, and did have some good approach shots. Just was not able to make putts outside 6-8’. Kept leaving them close but not dropping. Switching back to my TM Spider Tour at this point to see if I can get some to fall. If not then I’ll keep the testing going between that and the King 3D Supernova. Popular Post skraeling
After a rough outing at Annbriar, ok a rough outing for me I feel like now.. Shot a 103 there sunday. Now the course is actually pretty hard. Worse my driver hook decided to make an appearance. Not great on a course this tough. So just looked at my setup at home on monday before league on tuesday just so I had SOMETHING I could try and put into practice to change that. And I did. Now the distance off the tee wasnt spectacular.. like maybe 210-220, but I wasnt going for distance. Was just trying to get stuff to the MIDDLE of the fairway. I can add speed later (plus my back is pretty tight kinda hurting any hulkstrength I could muster). I uh... have a weird swing I think. For me I have 3 top things that I know I NEED to do to have a decent round. My driver shaft end CANNOT be pointed too far to my midline. I actually need to press it forward slightly. I have no trouble coming around on the ball and snapping that thing left like it saw a squirrel. My irons shafts... CANNOT lean left. For me? I need them to lean more middle almost obnoxiously so. I tend to squat down too much when setting up on irons or fairway/hybrids (thanks years of baseball and softball). I do that and I will fat shots all damn day. If my driver shaft end is too middle.... hook hook city. If my irons shaft ends not middle enough.... fade city. If I get too squatted in my stance.... fat fat city. Golf is hard. 43 (+8) in league after changing setup this late in the year.... not bad. 3 penalties too that round and got screwed by good contact lol. Hit my 8i somehow 160 something and it rolled into the lake on an attempted layup. I never hit this thing that far so I may have to adjust some ranges mentally now that i kind of have a setup planned out. josmi15
I seemed to grasp the concept yesterday for 17 holes. I hit a bad drive on 18. Then my 2nd shot hit into some trees. my approach out of the trees wound up in a bunker. dug it out of a bunker but failed to get it on the green, chipped it from there close to hole then 1 putted for a double bogey, which caused me to lose our "final three hole challenge by 1 stroke" I shot an 87 on a very tough course. 44/43. Shlax
Had one of those rounds where you put all the golf decisions that you’ve taken in your life in question. Played a quick round at my home course. Last time, I shot 79. This time, shot 97 with 38 putts (3 3-putts and 1 4-putt)! Started off with two pars: A really good birdie chance that I missed and a solid sand-save. All hell broke loose after that. Topped/heel-squeezed my drive about 10 yds off the tee and it bounced in fescue never to be found. Scored a triple bogey. I then lined up 3 bogeys and a par only to do the exact same thing with my tee shot on the Par 3 8! Once again, scored a triple bogey. Finished at 45 (+9) on the front-9. Had hopes to turn it around on the back-9 where I usually perform better than on the front. Had a solid drive on 10th and a safe lay up. Had about 80 yds to the flag only to skull my SW on a smooth swing. Finished the hole with another triple bogey following 2 chips and 3 putts. I once again topped my drive the same way as before on the 11th hole and finished with double bogey. Smoked my drive on the long Par 5 13th but it rolled all the way to the water hazard at about 320 yds off the tee. Dropped and topped my shot back into the water hazard. Finished with +4 after a 3-putt… Painfully crawled my way to the 16th hole where OB comes fast. No problem there so good news… Missed the green by 15 yds right, chipped and 4-putted for triple bogey… 52 (+16) on the back-9. The range awaits. Gotta put things back in order ASAP as it had been a long time since I had played an as painful and unpleasant round. Big moose
Played boulder creek in Ohio yesterday, shot 91 started out double on 1 and 2 then got it straightened out. Had 44 on the back and missed 4 puts inside 4 feet. The course was not in as nice condition as the first time I played there. Another thing was there were no carts allowed signs almost 100 yards from the green, if you hit in there you had to grab clubs and walk to the green. It was really hard on some of the older guys. Sluggo42
Crazy week so far. 73, then a 82, and todays very solid 71. Missed numerous birdie putts by just a hair. i remember when I started bowling 30 years ago, and then one day “I found it”. How to roll the ball with the nasty little snap that created strike after strike. Suddenly my average was 206, and I flirted with numerous 300’s. that’s how my golf felt today, with that moment of thinking, “I found it”! the exact “move” if you will, is merely having the left arm go straight back, as opposed to wrapping behind my back and getting “stuck”. Then, a strong hip turn to drag the swing thru. It was then like throwing darts all day, and with strong distance too. It could have been an even better day if some of those putts had fallen. as usual, can’t wait for tomorrow… Shapotomous, JerryB, MattF and 5 others 7 1 Quote TSr2 on tensi blue stiff Speedzone 3-wood on Tensi blue S Epic Max 5 and 7 woods on HZRDUS Reg flex Paradym 9 wood on HZRDUS reg flex P770 / P790 combo set on Ventus R-6 shafts 6-AW T22 Denim Copper 54°, 58° on Kinetic X Trajectory ER3 or, E.A.S. #4 (“Fang” or “Adele”) ProV1x, or, Maxfli Tour X .Org 14 cart bag Adidas Tour 360 , or Sketcher shoes
Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
What felt like a perfect early fall day yesterday got out for an afternoon round. Golf is so humbling it blows my mind. I was back and forth on things working and not working. 80 (40/40). Front 9 putting and off the tee saved me, couldnt hit a great iron or wedge consistently. On the back 9 was off the tee and started hitting better irons but couldnt hit a wedge or putt to save my life. This was a great hole though. Smoked 2i and a perfect 4i. Popular Post fixyurdivot
39/40 at Cimarron today. All parts of the game working pretty good. I even started pulling my 3w out of the bag following a probation period for misbehavior; and platooning between my 5w and TM Gapper Mid 3. Still not getting as much mileage as I'd like but at least I'm hitting it well. For awhile, the club literally gave me the willy's standing over shots . Drive on #6 par 5. Temp was about 92F(103F when I finished) but with the cloud cover and slight breeze, felt way better than the cooker days we've had this past month. This makes B2B 79's at Cimarron, our toughest course on paper, so pretty happy with that. Paul Hedrick
I played yesterday, and it was not optimal. Due to weather and other commitments, I had not played in a couple of weeks and it showed! Hopefully I am back on a regular schedule and I can start playing at least once a week again. Popular Post IndyBonzo
Played yesterday and had one of those days where I felt like I played great, and the score was awful. That was due to a few mental errors (leading to compounded mistakes) and two OB drives/penalties. (I took doubles on those two penalty holes, meaning I played them to par after starting +2.) Take those five or six strokes out, and I played really well. (I say this in contrast to my usual post-bad scoring round, where I think I will never amount to anything. Ha.) My putting was lights out on very fast greens, but kept grazing the edges on long putts instead of the putts falling. Only one 3 putt. I hit wedges and driver (save for two shots) really well, and irons were pretty good too. So, I left very happy, knowing that the mental errors are correctable, and that 90 could easily have been below 80 on a very difficult course with a little more focus and a little more luck. Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights today. It was a day that felt frustrating for both of us but could have been worse. Started promising. I hit a weak hook with my driver. This puts the ball on the fairway on 18 which shortens the hole a bit. I hit an 8 iron to the back of the green (pin was in the front) and just missed the long birdie putt for a tap in par. Given my recent driver issues I immediately put the driver away and went with the 3 wood. As I've gotten comfortable with this club its fast becoming a weapon for me. I can hit it nearly dead straight and sometimes nearly as long as my driver off the tee. After a solid drive I pulled my approach about pin high left of the green. Duffed the chip (story of my round) and wound up three putting for triple bogey. Hole three: poor wedge play again. Solid putt, though! Four: pulled my tee shot OB. Five was a bogey after putting my tee shot in the river. Poor wedges on six. Tee shot on the beach on seven. Got it out but not on the green, wind up with a double. Topped my tee shot on eight, then hit my 4H 225 yards uphill before blading my wedge to the back of the green. On nine I chunked my approach shot but it ran onto the green anyway. Then I missed the near-gimme birdie putt. Owen didn't play up to his recent standards but still went +9 while I shot +13. Owen made an observation afterwards about my iron faces being closed at address and I'm excited about testing his theory tomorrow. Popular Post russtopherb
Walked a twilight 9 and shot 43. 2 pars, one double and the rest bogeys. Hit 5/7 fairways but only 2/9 greens. Approach game still needs some work but getting better. My fairways missed were right and later on I figured out I wasn’t turning my shoulders enough. Again. Popular Post Syks7
First 18 since breaking 80 a couple weeks ago. 44/40 84. I'm not displeased but I have to say that I'm happy there aren't pictures on the scorecard. It was a weird one. I started with a blocked drive followed by two shanks, a decent chip, and a two putt. My score over the first four holes started +2,+2,+4,+5. (Double, Par, Double, Bogey). I was like okay, so it's going to be like that. Then I went par, par, birdie to pull it back a bit. Then on #8 I promptly forgot how to swing a golf club (seriously . 500 yards six strokes) and carded a triple on apar 5. (yay for net double). Finished 9 and came up just short of a sandy to finish the front at +8. It was a roller coaster to say the least. The back was much mellower. bogeys & pars + another birdie. Putting was pretty lights out. 30 putts. Including 45' for bogey , 22 feet for birdie, 12 Feet for Birdie, 7 feet for par, 6 feet for par, and 3 feet for par. Right around 113 feet made. I have to say that it was wildly freeing to not be desperately chasing breaking 80 this round. I didn't play particularly well but I was so relaxed and stress free that I managed to eke out a +12 after giving away half those strokes in the first 4 holes. There's a lot to be said about playing loose. Popular Post DoubleBogeyDad
Played pretty well in league tonight. Decided it was a good idea to walk in 90° humidity. Paying for it now. Shot gross 41/net 34. Lost to a net 32. Played a 2 hole stretch -1 and lost both holes without giving a stroke . Was hit and miss off the tee, 5/7 fairways, but the two misses were penalties. Made one bad swing with a 7i into a par three, followed by a bad decision to not take an unplayable that turned into a double bogey. Only mental goof on the day. Ball striking with the irons was great, really starting to groove the MacGregors. 5/9 greens, 1 up and down, 17 putts. All in all a good day with some easy strokes left out there. ParFore74x
Not my greatest round tonight but I still enjoyed the walk so I’m happy about it. Shot a 46/46, 92 with four pars, six doubles and 34 putts. Irons weren’t too bad tonight. Had a couple of looks at birdies on two of the par threes but went par on both. The other two pars came on the par 5s on the front. #9 turned out pretty interesting. My third shot was 60 yards out and my shot with my 54° hit the green, rolled across it, and then another 15 yards down the hill on the backside. Fourth shot was another 54° back up that same hill to the green that stopped about a foot short of the hole for a tap in par. Oh well, still happy with the par. Still struggling off the tee as of late. I think it may be time for a little range session to get things figured out. Tee shots aren’t even consistently bad. Some left, some right, and some stripped down the middle. I jus need those misses to be smaller. fixyurdivot, Syks7, BallsLeon and 5 others 8 Quote TSi3 10° w/ Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Black 65g TS2 15° 3W w/ Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black 6.0 70g 818 H1 21° Hybrid w/ Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue 70g MP-18 MMC 2 iron w/ KBS Tour C-Taper S 120g JPX 921 HM 5-GW w/ Project X LZ 5.5 115g JB Forged 54° & 58° w/ Project X LZ 6.0 120g EV5.3 Black
