My wife's nephew (or 2nd cousin, or something) made the cut at Bay Hill, and finished with a very respectable +2 for the week.

 

His name is Zachary Olsen, and he's a 19 year old freshman attending Oklahoma State. He got in on a sponsor's exemption for winning an amateur championship last year. He beat over 50 pros. Imagine how good he'll be in 3 more years!

There is no spoon.

At 19 I had still never picked up a golf club in my life. I was drinking with a fake ID, living it up in SoCal, and sometimes even going to work. (training to be an air traffic controller in the USMC)

That is impressive. I thought I had game at 19 but no where near that. At 19 I was not playing much Golf because I was serving in the US Navy and at that time had just returned from Nam and was working TDA in Norfolk VA

You decided against becoming a civilian controller? I work on kc-135 tankers for the Air Force.

At 19, I was working and going to night school considering going into the Army., which I did later. That is what I meant by working for the same people as High Fade just a different department. I had picked up a golf club. But doubt I had ever made a bogey.

At 19 I was under the delusion that I would be a symphonic trumpet player. I was playing on my college baseball team, only played golf occasionally and in fact when I did used my starter set of odd numbered kroydons. It was after mono cost me the next baseball season that I switched to playing golf. When I started breaking 80 withe the kroydons I bought a full set of Ram tour grinds with these beautiful Tommy Armor Persimmon woods.

 

What a great accomplishment for that young man.

He's out there at Norman with Stratton Nolen, another very good young amateur. Sounds like there are two guys to really push each other there. Good luck to your nephew.

 

At 19, I was beginning to regret turning down the golf scholarship I had offered because I wasn't interested in higher education and wanted to stay home to be nearer my sick grandmother. Not regretting staying for her just not going to college.

Too funny. I would not have trusted myself to live there! BTW, I was just in SB last month and took a drive thru IV. DP has not changed, but enough other things have to make me a little sad. No more IV Bookstore, where I worked for 3 1/2 years!

Hope everything went well for them. I have amazing parents, but never wanted to put them in a financial burden even though I'm sure they would have made it happen.
