Here’s a drill to help your backswing and transition.

Ive actually used this drill because he gave it to me in my lesson with him a couple years ago.

Well this is an argument for getting an alignment stick - I've always just used a club or since I started SuperSpeed my warm up stick as an alignment tool.  My teacher has me working on starting the take away with my core - I'm guessing that this drill would help with that also - plus I'm really trying to work on swinging left through the ball.

Thanks

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Definitely helps with what you are working on. Unless you want to do the drill on the range hitting balls you can do this with a club at the house. Choke down on the club and stick the butt on your waist and do the same movement.

In the drill video he sent me as part of my online lesson he demonstrated it with a club as how to do it.

Thanks - I've learned the value of practicing at home and work without a ball in this round of lessons - there's a lot that you can accomplish by keeping a club in the office and living room. 🙂

I can't wait to get my hitting net.  I've been so busy that it is even difficult to get range time in - it's a 15 minute drive from my house to the club so that's half an hour.  If I can hit balls live into a net and use my launch monitor to help I can do lots of little practice sessions - I could set that thing up during a ball game, hit balls between innings or during breaks in the action because it's right outside - pretty cools stuff.

Agree. Home training for certain movements is nice. Like you I’ve been busy with other things/focus and a 1.5 drive to the range hasn’t fit into that

Been playing around with this drill.  Backswing seems to be fine,  been hitting my left side on the through swing  😁.   Seems like when I try to keep elbows together on the downswing I am more successful.  Since my right elbow is a problem in my downswing, this drill seems like a good one.

That’s the bad thing about the drill with the alignment stick. If you don’t clear the lead side you will get beat up.

The elbows together is something I’ve seen taught from some people albeit in different ways. But each one I’ve seen has them getting closer at contact from where they were at the top of the swing.

The concept of the smart ball is keeping the elbows the same distance. Porzak teaches something similar with keeping arms/elbows same distance. In general it keeps the arms in front of the body

I must need new sticks since mine can’t fit in the butt of my club.

You can just put the stick on the side ing the shaft or under it and grip it.

Driveway markers are good alignment sticks and work fine for inserting inside the grip. They are cheaper than alignment sticks too
