Good morning, golfers!  I am hanging out with 4th graders this week.  Next week is spring break, so hopefully, lots of golf.

Busy morning getting the kids back in school after Spring Break, along with another busy week of work.  Jazzed to move on to the 2nd round of the VCT Tournament with my partners @Javs!  Hope everyone has a great start to their weeks!

Good Morning everybody!! Hope you all had a really nice .. and hopefully fun filled .. weekend!!

Was a busy one here and it did include some golf yesterday - a little warmup and then 9 holes (walking) with my honey. Played pretty decently for me, ie. kept the ball .. most of the time .. moving in .. generally .. the right direction!

The problem, though, is how the old body was feeling last night... Starting to worry about playing 18 x 4 days in a row on the Kingsmill trip but hey we've still got 2+ months to continue preparing.

So today is take it easy day I guess

Yucky day here today, and haven't played all weekend due to some other obligations.  I have a round planned for Wednesday and the weather is supposed to be clear then.

Happy Monday all,

Had a good, but busy, weekend of not one, but two St. Patrick's Day dinners (thanks @GolfSpy_SHARK for the second one!) and baseball as both boys had evaluations and we had our last day of winter training for the little ones.

Both boys did really well.  Jackson looks to be the top 1 or 2 of the 9 year-olds again this year so he's probably going to cost me a first round draft pick even though he could play with kids up to 12 this year.

 

Work is also continuing on the basement.  Pretty sure we got the last of our materials orders and the plumber is here today to install fixtures in the bathroom... getting so close to being done!

Good Morning Spies

Back to the grind this morning buried in excel spreadsheet and emails. Colder weather fills the forecast this week so unlikely that I will be able to get out and play. I am hoping for warmer weather soon so get back out on the course.

Good morning Spies, and welcome to another glorious week!!

Sunny, but chilly this morning. Just below freezing this morning with only a high in the low 40's. But then a slow climb into the mid 60's by the weekend. Hopefully we won't see any more of this cold weather as we head into the back half of March. But only time will tell. I'm hoping to see some golf start come beginning of April, but again we'll see.

More work on the laundry room over the weekend. Utility and 1 base cabinet in. We also took down the old cabinets and removed the remainder of the chair rail and trim pieces. So it'll be clean up the drywall, put on new drywall to close up the gap, tape/mud, sand, mud, sand, texture, paint, then install new cabinets. Probably a couple more weeks still since we can't do a ton each day while I work. It'll get done soon enough.

Need to get back on my walking and workouts this week. I was a slacker the last 3 days last week and Saturday. That's not going to help me lose weight if I slack like that. And I've got a long way to go to get rid of this weight.

This time of year I often go deep down the memory rabbit hole. 

I've been lucky enough to have visited Ireland a dozen times including 9 times with students over Spring Breaks in March.  But I only had the chance to golf there during one of those trips (a 16-week stay in Dublin).  I played a variety of courses -- Sutton Golf Club, a delightful 9-holer on a little spit of land jutting in to the Irish Sea; Deer Park, a busy public course in Howth reached by taking my clubs with me on two buses, a commuter train, and hitch-hiking a 2-mile uphill road; a couple of courses I stumbled upon while driving from Dublin to the west coast and back.

My favorite Irish golf memory is getting to play the Old Course at Ballybunion.  This was my introduction to links golf.  Later during that same 16-week span I had the opportunity to play at St. Andrews (Old Course and Jubilee) and Carnoustie but Ballybunion remains top of the list for me.  Remembering the views, the size of the dunes, the locals walking their dogs and kids down to the ocean, the perfection and challenge of the course -- all bring a sense of sheer joy at having been there.

Unfortunately, those memories are as close to a golf course as I'll be getting for the next 7 days at least.  We've had our "Spring of Deception" (aka "Fake Spring") and are entering "Third Winter" here in mid-Michigan -- snow pellets yesterday, 36° + 15mph winds today, potentially  measurable snow by Friday.

Had my waffles and orange juice so now on to the coffee and belVita biscuits (and cuddles with the dog and then the Honey-do list).

Just an FYI... If you look on golfworks.com there is a section for MPF = Maltby Playability Factor of irons.

They measure each head and through a proprietary formula end up with a number .. then rank all measured heads hi -> lo and categorize them from SGI to Gi, etc.

While *not* an industry wide standard, and doesn't include every iron head out there, still a really informative and useful guide imho.

Morning friendly golfer folks out there! New here but it’s great to see all the positivity and encouragement on here. I’m sure tons of people would benefit from it much! Lead a pretty busy schedule here with not a whole lot of time to play. But I’m hoping to play a father daughter tournament out here in the near future. It’ll be our 3rd one in a year and we’re seeing a bright future ahead.

Good morning spies! Finished all of the putter and chipper testing with the A&M 9000 this weekend, and I am impressed with the repeatability of the Maxfli Tour X golf balls. Plus, now that machine testing is completed, I actually get to play  the ball this morning, and I am super excited about that. I tried the balls with my wedges around the practice area yesterday after the 9000 chipper completion and found a soft responsive feel in the ball on 30 yard and in shots. Very nice. 

So we tee off at 8 with the men's club at a neighboring course. I played with this group for a number of years, and it will be good to see the guys again before the snow birds start flocking home in earnest next week. 

I never have been able to figure that out. Why flock back to North Dakota, Michigan, New York, or Montana when it is still cold and you don't have a reason to leave?? But these guys are like lemmings one person heads north, then two, then the flood. All to hurry back to crappy early spring cold nasty weather.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the time spent with family and friends. Leisure activities were not on tap around here due to rain all day Saturday and soggy, wet conditions yesterday. going to be a cooler week and wet week but fortunately not the snow and freezing temps of our Northern brothers.

MPF iron ratings Click from here for the page for each manufacturer. It confirms, for instance, that my Cobra LTDx irons are Super Game Improvement, which I sorta knew (and definitely needed!).

Oh, and happy birthday to @Girldad18. Enjoy NWA; wish I were back there (especially for baseball season)!

It's exciting here this time of year, especially with how the football team did and the boys basketball.  We always have track and baseball has been a force since I can remember.  Hopefully this is their year.  Most all of the sports are doing great though.  It's not too bad to be a hog fan.

between the snow and the work morning going well, I'm leaning toward the blessing quote.

Well look at it this way man, At least you weren't dumb enough to leave your place on a sunny warm island to head back to NW Lower Michigan and trade your sunny an 80° for whatever this garbage is!!! There is a silver lining to everything but I'm struggling to find it this morning

Good morning spies!

Woke up this morning with a slight tweak in my lower back, feels very "loose", that's the only way to explain it. It has happened before, turned a little to quick in my sleep or something. So going to skip the range this morning and unless a miracle occurs in the next 2 1/2 hours, I will be cancelling my afternoon tee time. No need to make things worse, I have class this evening anyways. Besides that, nothing much planned. Mr. Pickles is becoming his self again, slowly, but he seems a little more timid now. I guess I probably would be too.

It is a beautiful cool spring morning in Newnan, GA.  Great day for golf, but not me today. Back is ailing still.  

Thinking a lot about Scottie and his historic win yesterday.  I am amazed at how easy he makes the game look even with an average putter at best most of the time. What I love most about him is his humility.  Hopefully he keeps winning and stays the same.

Back to being cold once again, 33* and chance of flurries. Got to love mother nature!

I guess we are going to look for a car today in Pittsburgh and might even get into Ohio, not sure what we will get if anything.
