The Good Morning Thread

Morning Spies! 

I'm making the bold choice to play a tournament round at a course I've never played before (actually, I'm signed up to do that a lot this year as an excuse to get out and actually play more golf). 

I've been spending some time this week watching rando YouTube videos of people playing and watching flyovers which lead me to try to make some notes and at least try to have some course management strategy ahead of time. Things like how wide is that fairway really? Does it look like there's a good target line I should be taking? Does it slope massively one way or the other in a way I may or may not be able to see from the tee box on the day? Should I really resist the temptation to just pull driver and wack the ball down there somewhere?  Stuff like that. 

I'm also trying to keep my expectations in check in golf in general, but here especially. 

Anyone have any recommendations for a friendly tournament like this? Having fun will be a given, I'm excited to tee it up with some good people on a course I can't usually score a tee time.

Also… I had been strongly considering getting an Administrative Assistant to keep track of all the equipment testing, reviews, and opinions of the equipment. But the mods/staff have blessed / cursed us with such a bounty of testing that I may need to go to a “ STAFF “ of Administrative Assistants to keep track of everything.

Once the kids are out of school today we are heading down to LA for two days at Universal Hollywood. Never been to the west coast version of Universal, but the kids are excited for the Nintendo and Harry Potter areas. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the weekend because next week is already slammed full of appointments and trainings. In the middle of all that I also have my annual review that will need to be scheduled. First time I've ever made it anywhere even remotely close to 5 years at a company. Two and a half was my previous threshold. By the time clients slow down production enough for me to breathe in a few months, I'll be starting the class for Six Sigma Black Belt, so maybe not so much room to breathe?

Scramble tournament I was supposed to do this morning got cancelled because the course was basically flooded. Ended up taking the kids to the zoo though so all in all a great day. Mom and sister are in town so probably won’t be able to get out to play at all this weekend unfortunately

Well plans to get a long practice session in at the range and chipping and putting greens this afternoon were shelved, as I've managed to pick up a muscle strain in my back and shoulder. Swinging the club isn't comfortable so it's enforced R&R from golf for at least a couple of days. It did mean I got to spend plenty of time becoming familiar with the new Odyssey putter. Really happy with it so far. Putted on the indoor contoured green at the sim place I'm a member at and at home on my garage putting mat. Feel off the face is very nice. I was going to switch the Toulon Design grip out to keep it pristine, but I quite like the feel of it so far. Ha ha. It's thicker than the Jumbomax JMX Pistol Pro grip I've been enjoying on my Sik putter and I do have a spare ready to fit. Decisions decisions... lol. I'll stick with the Toulon grip for the first couple of rounds and some more outdoor putting green practice before making any decisions.

On the plus side, the new Sqairz Velo shoes are in so I can crack on with the test after an unplanned delay. They look and feel class. Initial fit is great. Good toe box width and very comfortable walking around the back yard in them. If I'm recovered enough by Sunday morning, I'll be trying them out on the course walking 9-holes. If I don't play, I have the next 9 booked for Thursday after work, so hopefully I'll be fine by then. Anyway, I'll save the rest for the test thread.

@rkj427- congratulations and best wishes for your upcoming retirement!

@Josh Parker- nice work on the deck! Looks  great.

@Wheelieb- I hope the scan results are as good as can be expected. I have regular scans and scopes to check diverticula I have and to check for 'stuff' not coming back. Here's to good news!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and has some golf planned.

Still no full swing practice for the past week plus thanks to this muscle strain (all the symptoms of serratus anterior strain). Seeing a sports physio next week to confirm the injury and develop a recovery plan. Hoping it's not a tear. League golf starts next week, so that's now out for me for a while. I also have a work trip to Italy and was/am hoping to get a round at Marco Simone (Ryder Cup venue last year) as I'll be pretty much driving right past on a Sunday with time to kill. I'm also testing the Sqairz Velo shoes, but limited to putting and chipping practice so no walking rounds just now. Impeccable timing!

Consoled myself with a bargain club purchase. My 60* lob wedge is a little too high bounce and doesn't sit low enough to the ground at address for summer golf on my regular courses and for the rock hard bunkers. None of my wedges are low bounce variants, so I grabbed a great condition used Vokey SM9 60* low (4*) bounce. Should do the trick... once I'm back playing. Ha ha. Look forward to getting some practice in with it when I can.

Myself with that opportunity, injection, Vodka and Whiskey chaser and grit the teeth.

That option has crossed my mind. It's the kind of bucket list opportunity that I could be tempted to Icey Hot, KT tape and crack on... ha ha. I have 3 weeks to rest up before then, so it's not entirely off the table!

The boss has decided we are going to a designer outlet today so fingers crossed she won’t cost me too much money whilst there. Somehow I doubt it tho.

I don't believe the words "designer" and "cost-effective" are paired together very often unfortunately 

Hopefully you can at least make it out for that round today!

New to the forum and still exploring everything new! Canadian here and courses just started to open this week. Took some overtime and now I’m halfway through my version of a “work week”. Looking forward to getting out for the first non simulator round of the year on Wednesday!

Halfway through the on duty weekend , with nothing golf related to report.

No golf plans for me today, volunteering to do some things for the Leader Dogs organization today, and that will take up majority of my time today.

Do have a round scheduled for tomorrow, and the weather is supposed to be much drier then.

@GolfSpy_APH, Jamie happy to hear that your work days will allow you ample opportunities not only for your forum responsibilities, but also time with your family too. 

@Northern Monkey enjoy your time today, just make sure that SWMBO keeps it all within a reasonable budget. The experience and time together should make it a "priceless" opportunity.

Good morning MGSpies on an early Saturday (well for me I am usually sleeping in) with rain inbound for the day here in WNY waiting for coffee to be ready  full day planned for a drive to Rochester with MyGolfSpouse for breakfast with son and our once possible visit to see Imagine RIT, an annual event that profiles student and faculty projects we have not been to before because of COVID and such, last one of everything as he graduates in a couple more weekends  no outdoor golf yesterday cutting the grass in advance of this weekend's forecast  and getting my Introduction up (see below) 

Welcome to our new forum members @BORDO and @ZachN97 who are sharp enough to make their debut with a good morning in The Good Morning Thread, cannot think of a faster better way to get into the mainstream forum flow  and welcome in!
