OnCore VERO X2 Golf Ball - 2023 Forum Review

I should add, I found my current gamer because of a golf ball test I did for MGS. There isn't a Dick's Sporting Goods near me so I probably never would have tried the Maxfli, but here I am with nothing but Maxfli's in the bag. I hope you all enjoy this test and get amazing results!

Those Maxfli's are 100% legit. I'm sure if more people tried them, more people would play them.

Oh damn, their premium balls run at $50 per dozen. 😳 I honestly had no idea they were that expensive … I always assumed they were in the $35-40 per dozen range for their premium range of golf balls.

That’s a tough hill to climb at that $50 price point … against the likes of Titleist, TM and Callaway.

Yeah,  it will be interesting to see if the juice is worth the squeeze.  In the DTC space you have Snell,  Vice and effectively Maxfli with great offerings all at about $30/dz.  The $50/dz game is one that Srixon doesn't even play in.

After the OnCore Elixr, Maxfli Straightfli is my backup (the former replaced the latter as my go-to ball). They're both good, but I like the firmer feel of the Elixr a bit better.

Looking forward to your reviews!

@frazzman80 I was between the left dash and the regular prov1. Left dash was long. Went with the prov1 because of the lower ball flight. I bought a couple dozen left dot prov1s and those were my favorite golf ball. I ended up selling them on eBay because prices were so high and you cannot find them anymore!

I will try to compare it to the left dash. I think I have a few laying around that I found.

I appreciate it.

Left dash has helped with my right miss and I don’t mind the slightly lesser spin around the green (in fact, it still surprises me sometimes how much it checks when I need it to roll out).

Also, nice job on the left dots…I’m positive those were a wise investment for your game.

So,  besides for left dash.  What does anyone else think this is going to compare closely to?

The perimeter weighting makes me think of the Triad. I'll be really curious what I can see from that part out on the course and in the wind.  I know LM numbers won't reflect anything.

I'm hoping for something like the CS X LS. But maybe Vice pro plus?  🤔

Here are some general statistics from the rounds of golf that I play to give readers an idea of what an average round looks like for me: I hit about 43% of fairways and 33% of greens, and my average putt count is 2.06 per hole. Unfortunately, my approach shots are my weakest point on the course, which makes par 3s some of the worst holes I play. When it comes to scoring, I struggle with major blow-up holes. While 79% of the holes I play are bogey or better, if I'm not achieving that mark, it's rare that I manage to save a double.

Sounds very familiar (although my putting average is below 2). Look forward to your review!

Although I am more likely an X1 player, I will be curious how the X2 performs for all of you. The call I had with OnCore they were super excited for this test and to get this ball in the hands of testers and had very high praise for it.

I am always looking for a good performing value ball (value not meaning cheap, good value for the money it costs). Maybe the X2 is the ball I was looking for all along. I know it may not be a direct comparison, but something that may have AVX characteristics would also be cool to see.

Cant wait till you guys get them and start reporting!

I'm sure Tony will give us the nitty gritty on ball consistency, sizing and weight metrics.  So I'll be really curious to test this out.  I wanted to try On Core back when they had the hollow metal core balls.  This isn't that,  but that did lead to this.

I'll be giving a comparison to Left Dash and XLS as I swap between both of those with some regularity. Left Dash is better for me in the afternoons when I get fewer fliers 🙂

I'm also wondering about Tour BX and even the LA Golf ball. And maybe not directly comparable, but on full shots, I think it'd be interesting to stack it up against something like a Velocity?

The best use of a Reliant Robin, ever! If this is any precursor to the test, looking forward to some rather explosive results.

I own two dozen VeroX2 balls and have had them since the first day they were released (I am a Charter Member of Club OnCore). I played the X2 for about a month after receiving the balls, and for the first time in my memory I can say that I don’t have the clubhead speed to play them. I love the VeroX1, but the X2 — not so much!

As for comparisons, the ProV1 Left Dash is close, but I still think that the VeroX2 is quite a bit firmer. The Wilson Triad is nothing like the X2, and the only other ball that I think even comes close in feel is the Srixon Z-Star XV.

DR - Callaway Paradym AI Smoke TD, Newton Motion 4-Dot

4W - Callaway Paradym 3HL, Newton Motion Fairway shaft, 4-Dot

HYB - Paradym X 18*, HZRDUS Smoke Red 80S; Sub 70 949X 21*, same shaft

7W (if played) - Sub 70 849, ProForce Black 80-S

Irons - Callaway Paradym, HZRDUS Silver Gen 4, S-flex

Wedges - Edison 2.0, 53* and 57* (bent to 58*), KBS TGI 100

Putter - (currently in flux, but usually an Evnroll 8V

Ball - Maxfli Tour-X CG (2023)

Bags - Ghost Golf Maverick Black Ops

Cart - MotoCaddy M7 Remote (without the remote)

Spoiler

driver / off the tee is no longer a weakness for me!

So,  these balls will be arriving soon* and to give you all some idea of what I expect to see with them, and what I am getting with some current balls on the market I thought I would do a few days of pre testing. So today, I did some time on the LM with the Titleist ProV1, Taylormade TP5X, Vice Pro and Srixon Z-Star Diamond with my 9i. In the next day or two I'll throw up the same test with my 6i, then later this week I'll add driver to the mix.  I hit a few shots with each ball. Nothing crazy, just looking for some baseline numbers.
