Missed 2 par putts that were less than 2' on the front-nine and was +5 after 6 holes. Needless to say, I wasn't expecting anything beyond an ordinary round...

I then proceeded to play the next 11 holes at even par (9 pars, 1 bogey and 1 birdie). I had to make a 5' par putt on the 18th hole to shoot par on the back-nine but missed low and short, yikes.

I tied my personal record (albeit on a par 70 course) and am excastic for my next round.

Driver was highly cooperative today. I did not bomb any drive down the fairway at 300+ yds but I did hit 9/12 fairways (12/18 GIR, 36 putts).

Wet conditions after a long dry spell, course was still firm getting roll on your drives but able to stick it close with the irons.

Played Tetherow Country Club golf course and it was very difficult course. The green were very fast and undulating. Overall the course is very fun to play.

I dunno got on the bogey train. Didn't really loose any golf balls, but think I only hit 1 or 2 fairways with driver. 

Managed to hit 4 or 5 fairways Bunkers off the tee and only truly got hurt on one of them.

Putting was ice cold. 

Iron play was solid, but back 9 struggled.

Oh golf... When one thing is working others arent. Flip the day and the story changes.

My break 80 round is coming, just not sure when.flip side was so nice to play from whites. The added distance creates some new challenges for the better.

My two break 80 rounds this year (plus an even 80) came as surprises. Both of the scores in the upper 70s came after I had played some horrible golf, scoring between 90-95.

The first was a 78 in a two-man better ball tournament at my home course (par-72, 6,350+ yards, 131 slope) where I was firing darts at the pins on most holes, beginning with hole #2. If I had putted even reasonably well that day, I would have shot my age (74) or better.

The second sub-80 round, which was a 77, came on a fairly easy golf course with a par of 34-34-68. Ten of the 18 holes are moderately difficult, with a few that are very tough, but there are also more than a few fairly to very easy holes at this course, providing some good birdie opportunities. It just happened that I was scoring well that day, particularly on the second nine where I shot 37.  Putting was much better that day than when I shot 78 at a far more difficult par-72 course that has been used twice for U. S. Open qualifying, but my tee-to-green game was quite inconsistent.

I guess that I should not have been surprised by the 80 that I shot at Tidewater in N. Myrtle Beach. It was at the end of an eight day trip where I had already played eight other 18-hole rounds, plus a few “bonus nines”, including an 84 two days earlier. However, I had also shot a 91 the prior day. Because that final round of 80 was not part of the week’s rounds that counted in the points (and thus money) standings for the trip, I was really loose and played 15 or 16 really good holes with a couple of real stinkers. There’s something to be said for being loose and not caring much about your score!

Drove the ball well, but putting was erratic.  It was a missed chance to break par today!  It was great to play with my family on the 4th of July holiday and out-drive my son, too.

Bunkers may be the end of me. 8 holes where I went into the bunker and was able to get out in 1 stroke 6 times (although poor shots). The other 2 times it took me 5 strokes and 2 strokes to get out. Def doesn’t help the scorecard.

First time I played in a long time.  (Three weeks, which is long for me anyway), and boy did my game show it. My putting and short game were some how super locked in, (course was very wet, which helped I'm sure), which resulted in a decent round.

More importantly, this is my 5th round posted; can't wait to get that sweet, sweet MGS swag tag!

Played Lost Tracks Golf Course in Bend, Oregon. The course was in good shape and the greens roll true. The greens were on the slow side. Overall the course was in good shape. The price was a little high for the course but playing in the Bend area is not cheap.

Made plans to play this course on the July 4th holiday, as it was the site of my first hole-in-one exactly 1 year ago that day.

Weather here was sunny, and a steamy 88 degrees with humidity hovering around the 75% mark. Not ideal for comfortable, relaxed golf, but a lot better than cold and snow in November. 

With all of the recent rain we had here it was CPO, so I knew that it may be longer to finish than I hoped for.

We were behind a threesome of younger, and less experienced players, and after seeing their first 3 shots on the first hole not be where a decent drive for most would end up, I was unsure about keeping score and just playing a "practice" round hitting my 3 wood or new to me Callaway UW off the tees on the longer holes.

Did that and did keep score on my watch just to be able to get yardages when I was done, but it really got better when they only played 9 and then the back was wide open.

We took 2 1/2 hours for the front, and 1 1/2 hours for the back. On the back, I went back to hitting drivers where needed, and played for a real score.

I did really try on all of the par 3's to duplicate last year's feat, and the picture below does show the leave I had on the hole I made a HIO last July 4th. Hole high, just left about 10 feet, and missed the birdie putt!

The fairways that I missed were more due to hitting through doglegs, and were only slightly off the short grass, but all were very playable.

The front 9, I did hit shots purposely short of the group in front, just to keep moving along, and also give myself some extra wedge practice at the same time.

2 Birdies......TC Chen'd a chip on a par 3 from the rough?  What's the new ruling on that?  took a double, maybe should have been a bogey?  Anyway....was even par coming into 18.   Hit a nice drive, 150 out and proceeded hosel rocket one about a 100 yards.  Took a triple.

Good solid round for me yesterday! I started out a bit shaky with the driver but found it around hole 6. Had a double bogey 3 putt on a par 3 that I thought might wreck my round, but I managed to follow it with a birdie which helped a ton! 

As is somewhat normal for me right now, I had a stretch of holes where I bogeyed 6 out of 7, leaving the rest of the holes played nearly even par. The putter is back on though and I think there's a lower number out there for me soon, even though this 78 is my lowest score to date! 

My 349 yard drive came on a slightly uphill par 4 with the wind at my back. Playing from the tips it was 325 to the center of the green. After 5 minutes of looking for the ball short left of the green I gave up, only to find it a moment later long left of the green, nearly OB long. Probably the longest drive I have ever hit, and came int he middle of a trio of 3 drives that all three traveled 310+. Let's go!!

Today started out pretty poor.   My gas tank was low and all of my favorite gas stations were closed.  McDonalds kiosks were down and not one was anxious to work the cash register.  So no breakfast for our early tee time.  

It just snow balled from there!  A three putt on hole 3 lead to a double bogey and I felt it was just going to be one of those days.  While on the 6th tee box, the group behind us had a hole in one.  So at least one of my post round beers would be covered!  That must have inspired me as my chipping and putting came alive!  I dumped my tee shot on the par 3 8th hole into the mangroves, but a nice up and down from the drop zone salvaged a bogey.  On the back, I had six pars (including five of the last six holes), two lazy doubles and a bogey.  

Overall, almost 80% of the fairways, five up and downs and only 25 putts (a testimony to my good chipping day).  

It's funny that I counted the number on none wood and wedges shots I have a round (inspired by last week's challenge).  I typically only hit 6-8 legitimate iron shots during a round.  Yet, they cause me to struggle more often than not.  I have time set up in the next two weeks with our assistant pro to see if he can see something (other than my pathetic non-athletic swing).  I have my fingers crossed he can help me.  Until then, I'm incredibly average!

Strange round. Felt like I hit the ball perfectly for the first 6 holes, 5 FWs hit and a 7i to 15' on the par 3, but I was +5 at that point. Hit 3 approach shots in that span, a 9i a PW and a 3w, that felt perfect off the face and flew 20y over the hole.

 

 

 

 

Started missing FWs at that point, 3 in a row all leading to bogey or double. Some really amateur wedge efforts on the back 9 turned pars into bogeys. 

I finished strong, +2 on the final 4 holes. 5 doubles, 5 pars and 8 bogeys all told. 9/14 FWs hit, 4/18 gir.

Played great on the front but the heat started to get to me on the back.  Probably should have taken a cart on the back instead of walking both 9s.  1 over 36 on the front.  5 over 41 on the back.
