Front 9 was pretty much garbage. Ok off the tee, but irons were a struggle. Chipping was meh, I was rarely close enough to expect to make the putt. Ended up with 49 on the front. I decided to actually play my driver on the back and work on it since the front sucked. Turned out to be a good idea. 43 on the back with a pathetic triple on a par 3 (no lost balls, so yeah, it was bad). Chipping improved so I had 4 one-putts on the back (5 total one-putts, no three-putts). +20 total on a pretty tough course that I've only played one other time. Here is a pic of their "signature" hole. Long, downhill par 3. Was playing about 190 over a ravine. Managed to par it with a 4h to just off the back, decent chip, and a putt. Beautiful hole, IMO. It was also the 16th round of golf I played in May! 95 (48/47), 92 ESC - 1 birdie, 4 pars, 8 bogeys, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 quad and 1 quintuple. So basically, 3 holes destroyed my round. FIR 7/14 (50%) - I had a few monster drives, but also got a bit wild. GIR 5/18 (28%) - Irons and wedges were 'meh' again. 38 putts (SG -7.380) with five 3 putts and one 4 putt. An absolutely HORRENDOUS day putting. The greens were rolling nice, but they were hard to read. For whatever reason, I seem to play poorly at nice courses, which is disappointing, but it was nice to finally check Aviara off the list. On to the next round! Golf is already hard, I don't need the greenskeepers to make it impossible.Yeah, the first time I played this course was about a month ago. That overhang just in front of the blues was in my mind, so I moved to the white tees. Yesterday I played with a buddy who plays there all the time and we played it from the blues. Popular Post edingc
- 41/43 = 84 (+12) - 5/15 FIR - 5/18 GIR - 31 Putts (1 3-putt, 11 2-putts, 6 1-putts) - 2:10 Round Time Driver - Average, Irons - Good, Approach/Short Game - Poor, Putting - Good By far the fastest I've ever walked 18 holes. Was actually nice, as it didn't give me a lot of time to second guess shots. Pretty much got up to my ball, committed to a shot and swung. That really helps me play loosely. I struck my irons really well again. The swing thought I keep coming back to is to basically take my right side completely out of my swing. If I don't feel like that, my right side just wants to take over and everything becomes all sorts of bad. Driver was erratic, as usual, and cost me quite a few strokes on the back. I did hit two good drives on No. 17 and No. 18, if I can continue that kind of striking a round in the 70s should be right around the corner. My misses with most of my clubs are starting to be hooks, which is actually a good thing and a sign that the changes from my last lesson are taking hold. Best shot of the day - absolutely striped 6-iron off the tee on the dogleg left No. 2 hole. I hit a beautiful draw around the dogleg that totaled 192 yards. Unfortunately ended up hooking my 9-iron approach left into the sand, but got out and two-putted for bogey. ncwoz, CarlH, PMookie and 12 others 15 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 3.6 / Anti-Cap: 9.9 (Last Updated Sept. 1, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. Started the round like crap lost 4 balls on the first 3 holes then I started to play better. Made the turn and shot bogey golf on the back nine for a 102 which isn't my best or worst round ever but for how it started I'll take it especially since it is my first round since the review I did last year. Popular Post chisag
... 95* and a 20-25 mph wind so it was gonna be a fun round. I never mind a hot wind as it keeps ya cool or at least cooler than no wind at all. Did not drive as well as my last round but hit some really nice drives yet was shocked to see that again, I only hit 6 fairways... sigh. Drove 2 down the middle but into rough with a hot helping wind so no complaints about those. Hit several more just barely into the rough and considering the wind, not complaining about those either. But I had 2 bogies from sloppy swings that were both pushed into a wind, losing a ton of distance and in deep rough. One other bad drive was a pull hook, but I hit a 205 yd shot from light rough to about 10 feet using my F6 I just put back in the bag this morning. ... Started off well hitting a big drive on #1 and a knockdown to 25 feet and 2 putted. Really nice drive on #2 and a knockdown pw to 4 feet and birdie. Hit a sweet 4 iron off #3 tee, a par 5 and then a good fw to 145 and another knockdown to 12 feet and made another birdie. #4 was playing 189 and I wanted to start the ball over the bunker and let it drift back with the dead sideways wind, but chickened out subconsciously and started it over the green, only to watch it drift right leaving a 30 footer to a pin tucked on the downside of a camelback. I had no choice but to get it over the hump leaving a 15 foot comeback as there was no way to stop it once it started down the other side. Nothing I hate more than 3 putts, especially when I knew enough to start the ball far left but just didn't execute. I finished the front 1 under with 2 birdies and 1 bogie. ... Then brain cramped the start of the back 9. Hit a very poor 4 iron off the tee on #10, an easy 317 yd par 4. Deep rough and my approach found the bunker so up and down for par. #11 was one of those pushed, weak fades that left me in the rough and 155 in on a 359 yd par 4. Yup, that is a 205 yd drive. Went from rough to rough with the thick grass into me, so gouged out a 58* that didn't make the green. This grass is so think and growing into the shot makes it a guess as to how hard to hit it, how much grass is under the ball and how much will the nasty stuff growing almost sideway stop the club. Bogie. Then the excellence of the T100-S showed itself and I hit a 7 iron to a tap in on the 151 yd par 3. This time I did trust my swing and started the ball off the green to the right and let the sideways wind bring it back to the hole. ... Fast forward to #14 a 543 yd par 5. Hit another good drive and the F6 to 149 and with the same wind as the par 3, I choked down a little on my T100-S 7 iron and hit it to another tap in. #16 is a great hole, slight dogleg left with water right and 4 bunkers guarding the turn. Wind howling left to right so I wanted to start a drive over the bunkers with a slight cut and let the wind bring it back to the fairway. But like Brian Skatel from The Big Break, I hit it "too pure" and it never moved landing in the 2nd bunker. The lip stopped me from going at the flag so I ended up in a green side bunker with a fried egg right under another tall lip and no stance, I could just barely get the ball out sideways. Another reckless bogie. So an up and down round in 95* heat that was actually fun. Other than only hitting 6 fairways. And a pathetic 205 yd drive. And going from bunker to bunker. And the poor 4 iron off the 10th tee. And that @%*#@ 3 putt. GaDawg, daviddvm, cnosil and 8 others 11 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... AutoFlex Dream 7 SF405 Fairway: Qi10 5 wood ... MaxEntropy
League was a bit of a grind tonight - I made the decision to hit driver as much as I could, just to see if results from yesterday were a fluke. It sort of worked out, but I am starting to build some confidence in it. Not a lot of fairways but only one big miss (tolerable location to recover). Irons were suspect, chipping was brilliant and brutal all at the same time. Putting was great. I only missed one within ~10 feet and had a 40-ish footer that was perfect lag - rolled to about 6 inches past the hole. Popular Post revkev
... Nothing wrong with momentary self recrimination for doing something stupid. I think the most derogatory thing I can say and from my experience most golfers feel the same, when I make a mental mistake like trying to guide a drive achieving the opposite followed by a most disgusted "Your Name Here!" Then like Keyser Soze ... it disappears and it is on to the next shot with a positive frame of mind. I once got reamed here for having the audacity to write that I needed a cleansing moment after hitting a bad shot. It was a Bob Rotelks fanboy. Well I’m not a doctor but i do have two MAs and i counsel lots of people, have for 25 plus years. I’ve learned that we are all wound differently and I think some perhaps many of us need that moment! That was the hardest adjustment when I moved to Florida - prior to living here I had always been a walker - walkers have that time, by themselves, to reflect, reject and move onto the shot at hand. Suddenly I was on the ball and it’s bad spot in a moment. It taught me the value of the post shot routine. You need to let that last one go, good or bad it’s done, fixed in ink and stone. Just do the little things necessary to lessen the damage - for example, one crap shot plus three pretty good ones make par just as much as a great drive, nice iron and putt that singed the edge does. I can't hit a ball with anything.... driver, irons or wedges. Everything I hit is almost cut in half with the bottom of the club. This has gone on for at least the last 6 rounds I've played. This is not fun or enjoyable... at all. I have lost 30 lbs. over the Winter. I can't find a swing to save my life. The game I love has become something to despise/fear. I'm not sure how much longer I can keep going like this before I just quit. Have any of you ever been where I am? What did you do? How did you fix it? I can relate to how you're feeling right now, I'm going through one of those "down" periods now also. It can be incredibly frustrating when something you should take joy from becomes stressful(?). I had to take 2 months off this year due to an elbow issue, and I just haven't played well since coming back. Today was bout as good a day as I've had since starting to play again, but still frustrating. Played the front in 40, par on 10, then 4 doubles in a row before finishing the last 4 holes 1 over. Shot 85, with the pattern of just losing my swing at some point in the round then getting it back, but not knowing why, continuing. Maybe you need to take a break, clear your head, then go hit some balls at the range a few times before going out again. There's nothing wrong with taking time to clear the gremlins out of your head. Almost bagged my first ace on the 4th hole today. Flat footed 7-iron from 161 ended up about a foot right behind the hole. Got paired with some old pals from our club MGA group. It was nice catching up and we made plans to play early again Friday morning. Nice round. I used to run a chapter of the MGA in California, it’s been hibernating since my kids were born. Might be time to reopen it soon. Good luck... This. That was the story of early last year and really much of the last 3-4 years after losing my swing. Can I offer an idea to take a lesson from a pro? I took one a few years ago that fixed one or two things, but the one last year was a gamechanger. Finally I started to thwack the ball and be much straighter. It's upped not only my enjoyment of the game but allowed me to play more now that I can get around sooner. As for my game, I've managed to bang out a bunch of rounds: 92 at my home course including taking an 8 on a par 5 going on almost two weeks ago. Played again during the week and shot a pretty ho hum 45 on the back. Managed to play 18 Saturday and shot 93 on a new course. Had about a 5-6 hole stretch where my body was just physically shot but rallied to hit a birdie on 18. This week played two 9's and had a 45 and 47. The 45 finished double triple. The 47 was more of a get out and play without worrying about scoring. It was tough round mainly because of my driver and short game, but I started to play better around the 8th hole. Have two more rounds planned this weekend. I appreciate the advice, and the empathy. You mentioned lessons, and I think they're a big part of my "struggles" right now. Back in November I went to see a very good teacher in my area. When I saw my back swing on video, I'm not going to lie, I was horrified, lol. Way inside, big loop at the top to "correct" that, and then coming into the ball with an open club face. He was amazed though how well I was getting thru the ball with all that going on. Saw him 3x, then went up to Long Island for the Holidays. Couldn't play golf up there because of the weather, but I worked on the drills he gave me. I got back down South early January, and the issue with my elbow flared up very soon after, and I got back to playing about 6 weeks ago. So I really wasn't putting in a lot of range work when I really needed to be doing that. I think (no, I know) a big issue for me right now is I'm getting lost at the top of my swing, trying to "find?" a proper position. I've lost the flowing feeling of movement you have when playing any sport well. It almost seems like my swing has now fragmented into two entirely separate movements, an unsure back swing, then a turn. I keep waiting to get to the point where muscle memory kicks in. I know/hope I'm on the path to becoming a better player, but right now I'm stuck in the "one step back" part of the "in order to take two steps forward" thing. I'm not going to lie, It's frustrating, and sometimes I wonder if I'd have been better off just staying with my old, flawed, but consistent swing. My scoring was way better then. cksurfdude, Rickp, Kenny B and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: G425 Max 10.5* Fairway: GBB 3W G410 5W Hybrids: Paradym X 4H & 5H Irons: JPX 923 HM 6-AW Wedges: SM9 54-10 & SM9 58-8M Putters: DF3 34”

Siamese Moose
I played 9 holes this morning, my first golf since October. This was my first round since shoulder surgery back before Thanksgiving. I limited it to 9 until I see how my shoulder feels tomorrow. I would have been happy to break 50 (I'm a 10), and started with an ugly double off a good drive. Three straight bogeys, but finished with 5 pars for a 41. Extremely happy, and right now I don't need any meds for my shoulder. revkev, Grand Stranded, MattF and 5 others 8 Quote Moose, my cat, is Siamese
Popular Post downlowkey
Really pleasant 9 hole walk this morning. I was first out as a single and decided it was a good opportunity to take my time and try to grind out a number. Got it to (-2) thru 3 after a good birdie on the opener and then chipping in a ~50 footer on the third. After bogey on the 5th (same hole I made triple yesterday) and a good par on 600 yard 6th I’m sitting at (-1). Par-3 7th was playing 167 into a little breeze with the hole cut front left. Put a great move on a 7-iron that never left the stick. Seriously believed it might have dropped in the jar, so I grabbed my laser for a closer look. Couldn’t spot the ball (early morning Sun + proximity marker shadow) and decided to snap a pic for posterity. Finally spotted my pellet on the walk up to the green. Suprise... I’m still ace-less, but it almost hit the “hole” on the fly. 5-footer that snuck in the right edge after a dyslexic read got me to (-2). Two routine pars to close and then headed for the range for a couple quick buckets to keep grooving these swing changes. Thoughts for the day: Our Superintendent is short staffed due to a city hiring freeze and the subsequent mowing schedule for our primary rough is putting a premium on fairway stats - especially on the tough 5th. This is going to be the season I get my first hole-in-one... I can feel it. artful_golfer, MattF, revkev and 7 others 10 Quote PXG___0811 X 9* - Mitsubishi Diamana s60 Limited X Cobra___S9-1 Pro 15* - Matrix Ozik XCON 7 S Adams___XTD Forged 3i - Matrix Ozik Program F15 120 S Adams___CMB 4-PW - Matrix Ozik Program F15 120 S KZG___Tri-Tour 50.08__54.10__58.12 - Accra iCWT 2.0-95i S Nike___Method Converge B1-01 (copper insert) Maxfli___'23 Tour X "The most important shot in golf is the next one“

Jwhite86
The score didn't indicate that I played any better than I have all year, but my ball striking was very solid. 2 terrible chips and a blowup hole derailed an otherwise good round. For the first time this season my irons and wedge shots from the fairway felt good. Also hit what may be the longest drive of my life leaving myself a little 7 iron into a par 5. Hoping this is a turning point.
