New fairway wood?

therod

Recommended Posts

So in another post or 2, I have talked about getting a new driver for an up-coming birthday. Since I very well may get something from the bay, at a nice price, I may have a few dollars remaining. My next thought is a new 3-wood. My gamer now is a KZG Q, which never got the respect it deserves. It's been in my bag since the spring of '09, and it's still the best I've played. I make that "best" statement also admitting I haven't tried anything new in a very long time. I have a Turner RBZ clone that isn't bad (the 5 wood is amazing, btw), but I lose noticeable yardage. I bought a used Jetspeed 3-wood, but I just don't like the ball flight. Maybe it just needs a different shaft, but that club never brought out the "I love this club, and I have to get the right shaft in it because it has to be in my bag" feeling. I very well may be getting a Fly-Z driver soon, how are the fairway woods? Anything else in the very recent past worth trying and/or looking at that I won't have to break the bank to try?

I quit playing a FW a few years back so have no personal experience with anything new.  That said I've heard great things about the new Cobra Baffler's and they just had a price cut so used are getting cheaper.

I only have a moderate level of experience with fw's, but I've found that the Adams titanium models and the callaway xhot and up models to be very long, and usually pretty forgiving (with exceptions of course), if you are ok with slightly older models you can find some real steals...

There are so many left handed players on here that one of these days, the OEM's are only going to make LH clubs, and us rightys will be out of luck!!   :D

I've used the same 3-metal for around 3 or 4 years now but I did get to hit a few models recently and I'd give the new Taylormade a try. It felt really nice

I'd go for either the Callaway XR16 or TM M2 if I had the money. As AH1980MN said above though, any of the Callaway X range of fairways would fill the gap very nicely - long, forgiving, high launch and there are LH versions available.

Tour Edge Exotics, the best 3 wood. I would search for XCG5, or XCG6, those 2 are the best for me, also a fellow Lefty. You should be able to find them pretty inexpensive as well. Good luck in your search.

I play the Tour Edge Exotics XCG5. Should be able to get a good deal on one and I am LH too.

I will chime in with the Original Exotics Combo Braising Fairway wood from 2004. These things are unbelievable. The original retail was $400. Still the longest fairway that I have ever hit.  These can be had for a song these days.  I picked up my last 2 for a cost average of $22 each.

Here is a 5 wood for $35 and free shipping.

The Adams super LS launches like a bullet, and xtd ti looked good, too, I just don't have as much experience with it... kuro kage black in LS, red tie(?) in xtd ti...

Yup red tie in xtd. Both are very long, and reasonably forgiving. It you need more forgiveness, the Super S might be an idea - no pun intended...

I owned the original Super LS, until one of the weights fell out, and Adams replaced it with the newer version. Sold in in 1 day. Nowhere near as good.

I miss that thing.

I have a yardage gap between my 16.5 HL Aeroburner 3 wood and my 20 degree 4 hybrid. Considering the F6 baffler as a replacement. I like the fact that it's "easy to hit," because I want something I can hit from a variety of lies as well as off the tee. Anybody got any feedback on the baffler? I saw the new ones came out today, hoping the F6 drops in price soon (still $299 at golftown in Canada).

I still haven't done anything about mine. Because I am playing less golf now with the kiddos, what I was considering was going with a bigger, more forgiving (but harder to hit off the deck because of size) 3-wood. I was looking at the Fly-Z stuff since I just picked up the driver. I would then go with my 5-wood as my long stick from the fairway, which is easier to hit anyway. I lose a little distance from the turf, but I gain forgiveness. Just my most recent thought...

I've tried to like others, but nothing ever beats out my old 13* V-Steel T/S.  Something magical about that soleplate design that just makes it easier to hit than other (15* ) FW's, and the lower loft makes it longer and more penetrating into the wind than those!.. :)

I replaced my Bio Cell 3W & 5W with the F6 Baffler and set it to 16*.

I use it on 3 holes at my home course.  I can't seem to hit it well with a tee so I just hit them off the deck.
