The President's Forum - Why We Do Things Differently

April 2016 From the day we determined we would be bringing the Ben Hogan brand back to golf, we knew we must look to the past to see our future. Mr. Hogan founded his company in 1953 with the promise to craft "the finest golf clubs that could be made," and that they would be "like a fine piece of jewelry." Those principles built a legacy for producing the finest players' irons in the game, and a string of innovations ranging from the first light steel shafts (Apex) to the first game improvement forged irons (Edge).

We agreed that those standards that served golfers so well would guide us as we rebuilt the company Mr. Hogan founded and nurtured for over forty years.

As we took stock of what the golf club industry has become, we determined that we would follow a different set of rules. We would ask golfers what they really wanted, and give that to them. Millions of the most serious golfers told us they already hit their irons far enough, but they don't hit greens as often as they would like, and they don't have the distance control that precision iron play demands.

They told us they were frustrated with their inability to hit their wedges consistent distances and with controlled trajectories. That high-face shot that goes nowhere was costing them strokes. They were confused and frustrated by the vast array of different bounce angles, each one claiming to be better at one kind of lie or swing than another.

In other words, they wanted to hit real golf shots. They wanted to work the ball higher and lower as the situation defines the shot needs. They wanted to hit draws and fades, knockdowns and spinners. Reliably carve a few yards off of an iron or wedge shot at will. They told us that was what the game of golf was really all about.

So we created a totally different approach to the design and crafting of irons and wedges - and now hybrids, with more to come. We engineered each club to have just the right amount of forgiveness, without compromising the responsiveness that better golf requires, or the forgiveness that all of us need now and then. We designed and crafted each club around the principles of golf club performance that will never change:

  • Mass behind the impact zone is imperative to feel and performance
  • Proper loft gapping and launch angle fitting will get more out of any golfer's game
  • The highest quality manufacturing processes will ensure that every golfer - from tour pro to recreational player - will get all that can be delivered in a golf club
We invite you to experience how these values and principles can affect the clubs you play, and how you play them.

Love it! Gotta admire the detail they put in all aspects of their company. Probably the first time in a while I've enjoyed looking through a company newsletter. I might have to sign up for this one.
