Welcome both @Riley24 and @Box3_53 happy to have another couple NH folks in here. I live up the Owls Nest way myself and play there a couple times a year. Look forward to what you folks bring to the forum. Hoping this sunny weather keeps slowly melting the snow up here.

Thanks man, I appreciate the welcome. As long as we don't get a big time New England late February blizzard, we should be in good shape down here on the coast. Fingers crossed because we ALL know how it can work out. Lol. I'm hoping that after getting acquainted with how everything goes here, I'll have time and the opportunities to travel around some and meet and play with some of the guys here. You can never have too many golf pals! Thanks again for the welcome. Here's hoping your snow is gone quickly and your courses are all in great shape for an early opening day!

Welcome! You can sign up for a handicap whenever you're ready. Don't need to qualify. www.ghin.com

Played Owl's Nest in 2009 and I still remember the holes. Unreal!

Hope your full bag fitting goes well. Post in the what have you bought lately thread and share your experience.

Great to see another New England service member on board. Hang on for the ride!

Thanks very much Stroker! I was planning on looking into if GHIN was allowing players to submit their own scores for handicapping or if you still had to go through a pro shop like back when I last held a card. Lol. I remember them sending the big manilla envelope full of all our member's updated stickers for their cards. Kinda dating myself there a little. Lol. I've been researching and hitting different irons but was just driving myself crazy. There's so many options with brands, models, shafts, that I finally just decided to bite the bullet and pay for the full bag treatment at Club Champion. There's one 10 minutes from me now, in Portsmouth. I figured at this stage in my life, age, fitness, flexibility and everything, that it just makes sense to spend the money to have a true fitting. With what a full bag is going to cost anyway, it made more sense to have this all done properly. I'm planning to use the fitting experience as the subject of my first attempt at an unofficial review. Thanks again for the welcome. It's great to meet new golf peeps, but it's a bonus when they're a Veteran also. I hope to get my feet wet around here for a bit and then hopefully get to meet and play with some now guys from around the northeast.

Hey everyone I am not new to golf but back to playing again after retiring from the Submarine service

  1. I started playing golf with a friend's Dad back in the early 90s. My normal score right now is around 120 with a Handicap of 50
  2. I enjoy playing golf because it is an excuse to get me out of the house and spend time outside
  3. I have been reading the website for a few months I had found it searching about information on a new driver or something else golf related. I don't think I know anyone here
  4. I live in CT and I don't have a home course yet since there are so many courses around me I have yet to play
  5. The best part is the number of courses within an hour drive from my house, the worst part is its cold from December to April
  6. I test and configure new computer networks
  7. My user name is just my name

Can I still stereotype if I only type with one hand?

I’ll be going to the show. Not sure what to expect but saw free rounds of golf as part of the vip ticket and trying to play more random places this year.

I played golf a lot as a young kid and was a huge part of my life with my dad. Life changed and I didn’t play at all through my teenage years. Picked the game back up 5-6 years ago and fell back in love, but golf is so much harder than I remembered it.

playing to about a 18 end of last season but haven’t kept official handicap. Have really started to take it more seriously this year and been playing 5-7 hours a week through winter on trackman.

I love golf because it presents a challenge I will never master. It is a place of immense challenge but simultaneous peacefulness. Golf is a game of life.

Ive read MSG content for years but decided to become more involved in golf communities as a whole in an effort to improve my game and golfing network.

I would call either Far Corners in Boxford, Ma or Atkinson in Nh my home course(s). I grew up/ live in the northern mass southern New Hampshire regoion.

winter is the worst thing about golf in my region.

I work in operations.

My last name is Shepard and I like shepherds pie…pies of most varieties really. I also tend to be logical/pragmatic to a fault.

1.  I have been playing golf for about 3 years now. I am a -15 handicap. Normally shoot anywhere from85-90. With my Very best round being an 83.

2. For now it is the chase for the pure strike every time. Every time the ball hits the center of the face and goes straight. That and the amount of improvement no matter the skill will always be there.

3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? I like to learn and to see what others say about products and every time i go do research this website always popped up. Plus never hurts to learn from others from around you area.

4. I am from Central Vermont area. There are a few local courses that are close. Three that I play the most is, Barre Country Club, Northfield Country Club, and Montague Gold course.

5. I struggle trying to find just one thing that i like about golf in my area. but one that works for both is that courses are narrow.

6. I work for UPS loading the trucks first thing in the morning and drive when they need me to

7. I am a red head and have a bunch of freckles

I played two rounds on the beautiful superbowl weekend! A little windy and cooler on the sunday but still got out there. Of course the greens werent mint season conditions but jusy getting out there was fantastic. Ive hit the range outside twice but with it being busy with work i havent gotten out as much as i would like. Llus i am in a sim league on mondays so that has kept me swinging a club year round now.

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

How long have you been playing golf?

Started golfing my senior year of college with some buddies, about 5 years ago now!

What’s your handicap or normal score?

Don’t have an official Ghin handicap, but just using 18 birdies is about a 12.5

What do you love about golf?

Love being outside, something to work on and continue improving at, spending time with friends doing something we all enjoy, and something I get to do with my dad!

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

Ive spent a lot of time on the forum not realizing it over the past few years looking up golf equipment and tips, but never made an account until now.

Where are you from? What is your home course?

Im from Connecticut, most played course is probably Wheeler family traditions but I play different public courses around CT all the time.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

Most courses are closed in the winter around me, and conditions aren’t great year round as everyone from New England knows.

What do you do for a living?

Work in the utility industry

Since I’m new here, also gonna add my WITB:

Driver: Cobra Speedzone Xtreme with Fujikura Motore X F1 6S shaft

4 hybrid: Taylormade Stealth 2

Irons: Recently added Mizuno 225’s 4-G

Wedges: Recently added Maltby TSW DRM 54 and 58

Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2.5+

Scotty was probably the dumbest impulse decision I’ve ever made since I still can’t putt if my life depended on it… but atleast it’s pretty and feels nice😂

Just wanted to toss this up here one more time for our MA/RI golfers! This is a scramble we're holding to help replace funds that we've lost in our Scholarship Fund due to all of our school concerts being cancelled for the past year. Allendale CC is a great track, plus we'll have prizes from Titleist, Snell, and a few other companies up for grabs. Here's the link with more info. Signups/checks must be in by April 20.

Popping through the the forum here to see who is playing where and I stumbled across this one.  We really like getting out to Allendale.  Great place.  Sometimes it is a toss up between Allendale and Acushnet River.  Two great tracks.  Hope they are keeping them both up.

Popping through the the forum here to see who is playing where and I stumbled across this one.  We really like getting out to Allendale.  Great place.  Sometimes it is a toss up between Allendale and Acushnet River.  Two great tracks.  Hope they are keeping them both up.

I’ve played there once several years ago! I remember liking the layout. I’ll have to get back there this year.

I haven’t played either yet this year, but I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed playing those courses. Allendale tends to eat my lunch with their greens but the place is almost always in immaculate condition.

Acushnet River is usually very reasonable.  Of course almost everybody out there beast Newport National 🤣  Which is a great course, but $$$$$

Another course we like to play is Connecticut National up in Putnam.  Reasonable rates and condition has always been good.

We stumbled across Meadow Brook Golf Club in Wyoming, RI last year when everybody was shutdown after that deluge of rain around August 8th last year.  There were a few issues with a couple of spots on the course, but man is the layout TOUGH and overall it was a fun day.  I think we might try to do that one again, though it is a bit of a ride from where I stay when I am in the area; but CT National is too so 🤷‍♂️

CT National is probably just a smidge closer for you Bellingham area guys.

@GolfSpy_SHARK and I have played CT National once many many many years ago.  I really enjoyed the course design there, very classic NE feel.

Hey guys, new to the forums, I too am from CT, about 30 minutes or so away from CT National. I can confirm its condition is great (still early in season though). I would highly recommend playing, another course nearby thats always given praise is Raceway in Thompson, although I've never played it.

My home course is Norwich, but i play a league at River Ridge as well.

I first found CT National on golfnow a number of years ago and thought it was a long way away but it's only about an hour from me. Really like that course. Some great holes, plenty of room and they always keep it in good condition. It's on my must play list every year.
