How'd you play?

MmmmmmBuddy

Recommended Posts

Played absolutely miserable this past weekend in a 4 man scramble. The only thing I did well was putt. Which I did very well. The course was amazing as it always is though. I can't recommend Mossy Oak Golf Club enough.

I may take some time off from tournament golf. My swing feels like an unfolding lawn chair at the moment...

You mean it's not supposed to feel that way? ;)

That's actually a very good description of what I might typically call "awkward".

Interesting round today, 37/38 - 75

I had 32 putts, but more because I had a few on the fringe that I could get close, but couldn't seem to make any first putts until a drilled a 60 foot birdie on 18 which was basically lucky as heck.

I m not very good at sand shots either. It's a blue moon when I get a sand shot close.

Sometimes I wonder how the pros can get it so close out of the bunkers...

Yeah, so in league tonight I very much struggled around the greens. Let's just say I had almost as many chips as putts. I had very little trouble covering the vast majority of the distance, it was the last 20 yards where I failed...

Miserably!

Tuesday is usually my day off from play; I head to the practice area in the morning for a couple of hours.  However, I was asked to join a group at another course in town for a game of Wolf.  I haven't played that course in over 2 years.  The best part of the deal is that the round and cart are free; paid for by one of the guy's company.

I was the big winner with 6 quarters!!  Woo Hoo!  Payout after every hole if someone wins the hole.  Not that many holes were won outright.  I shot 81 and won the par 5 #18 with a 4 foot, downhill, right-to-left slider for birdie.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Got "stuck" behind a couple real nice ladies on the front 9. No where to go so I enjoyed the view and friendly banter ever couple of holes. +3 on the front. Back was wide open and went + 6 for a 79 from the tips...which isnt that much longer than the whites. Only 5 GIR and 7 fairways, but a ton of first cuts and fringes. Chipped good and made enoigh putts to keep the score down. Course is touch with the very dry conditions. Lots of very thin lies in the fairways.

Shamless Bragging Below

I shot a Personal Best today!!!! I started +3 thru 6 and played the last 12 in -1 for a 38-36-74 (+2).

FIR 10/14

GIR 14/18

Putts 15-16-31

Everything was on the last 12 holes. I had 3 birdies, and hit 11/12 greens. This is the first time I have had Even par on a 9, it's a small achievement, but for me, I think it has cleared a large mental block.

I have been working on a swing change and was failing miserably before and had told myself if I didn't work this round I was throwing in the towel. Boy, am I glad I didn't throw in the towel before this round.

It turns out when I narrowed my stance, I shallower out my swing. Once, I got steeper things really started clicking.

I hit the most fairways I have hit this year. GIR was pretty decent. Chipping was on. Putter was HOT!

P.S. I retired the ball, a Callaway Warbird. I had put the PV1x's away because, I was losing so many with the new swing.

Seems like we have been working on a similar swing change.  Narrower stance and drills work great; taking it to the course, not yet there.  I have good days and bad days; I think I'm caught between two swings at the moment.  I'm glad it's working out for you.

Yes, I had a bad flaw where my back foot would slide forward throughout my swing and it would cause striking issues. It just added a timing variable and I was striking the ball basically with one leg throughout my swing. I have been elimimating that. My feet stay much more connected to the ground.

Watch the trail leg at address and the at impact, you'll see what I mean. This is before the change and what I am eliminating.

35 36 for a 71 (+2)

24 Putts

39% GIR

77% FIR

Got out at 6 am at Kenwanda and had the round of my life. Was relaxed, confident, and consistent.

Hole 3 - Par 4 378 yards... Tee shot with my F6 to 53 yards and finished with a birdie.

For reference, this course is relatively easy. Par 69 Slope 107 yardage 5,336.

But I won't let that take away from the round of my life and a milestone of not only breaking 80 but crushing it.

Well done youngsters!

I on the other hand didn't shoot that well today.

My gout decided to accompany me today and so I was always a bit scared of that.

Shot ok, but just didn't have all 24 spikes running in unison.

You know what I mean, just a “meh” round....

Played terrible today. I was testing the Kirkland Signature and I was flying a lot of greens. I hit one awesome drive and was losing a bunch to the right. I had three OB which hurt my score . I did make a 20 foot birdie putt though. It was tough on me but hey I was on the course. I shot 87.

I came back down to Earth today, through the trees of course. :)

41-38-79 (+7) Not bad, but not my best, the front 9 was bad though.

FIR 2/14 I need to hit more fairways. I lost a lot of shots from not having legitimate chances at pars after my tee shots.

GIR 10/18 Not bad, but not good. Good day with the irons, just not in positions to hit greens. Frustrating but goes back to the tee.

Putts 16-16-32 Well, I missed a LOT of 4 footers, to the practice green I go!

All in all, to follow up a low round, it was better than it could have been.

Played 18 holes in 2 hours and 10 minutes. No one was on the course and I was rushing. Shot a 103. 52/51. Hit 10 fairways and was just blistering my low irons today. Hit 4 greens. But I was rushing to get done and get home and my putting suffered.

42 putts. Oof. My game is coming together. Wedges we're money and so we're irons. Just need to settle in and focus for a round.

Shot 4 over today for 9 holes. Had two birdie chances inside 10 feet both short and three putted one hole from inside 20 feet. Found a Bridgestone tour rx on the course and played with it the final three holes. Hit my best drive of the year with it and liked how it felt around the greens. Might pick up a sleeve

77...the last couple night Ive been playing an AVX I found. Looking back at similar scrores with my usual ProV1, im generally 30-33 putts. With the AVX the last 2 nights its been 26 and 28 putts. Makes me think I need a lower spinning ball. Im hitting fairways but not many greens, but the misses are slight. Jusy cant justify the price of them even used.

PR of six consecutive pars yesterday....should've been a couple birds mixed in but the greens were aerated and every time the ball would slow down as it got near the cup it would hit one of the aeration holes and veer off in a different direction....SO DAMN FRUSTRATING
