That's the beauty of the game, we can be miserable one day and willing and ready to go back the next.

It's supposed to be 95+ tomorrow with a heat index of 105 and I'm going to the range for the first time in a while. I'll just be chipping, but a buddy invited me and I can't resist hitting balls for the first time in a long time.

Good to hear you're finally getting back out!

Confession time: I didn't make it out again today.  Had to run to the store first, and the walk down the driveway was soul-sucking enough that I caved.  If I didn't have to go into work afterwards I would have been on the course for sure!

... Nope, in my mind they are all 100% makable from 2 feet and in. (Doesn't have to be true of course, I just have to believe it) 😉

I am with you on that. For me 100% make rate for 3 feet and in.

First one out at Windmill yesterday because the rain chased people away, but it didn't rain.

Played the blues as is now my usual tees and had a great time score wise. Course was playing heavy because of the rain overnight so I left quite a few short. 41/39 80.

Well well, I guess I don’t suck as much as I thought yesterday, but I did have a stretch of suckiness for a few holes. But hen I came back with a couple birdies and then…. A one hop jarred 6 iron from 165 for an eagle, to end up with a 75…

sometimes this game is so easy, and perfectly flushed shots abound… but then something happens , and you have a 3-hole stretch of putridness…

I shot an 81 today (net -3, Sharon Woods GC, Cincinnati), which, prior to this week, I would have been happy with. But after shooting a 39 in my Monday league, and then tying my best ever at 73 on Wednesday, this felt like a disappointment. However, the main reason I'm posting this is I want to know what person thought it was a smart idea to use red, orange, and yellow for the pin position flags. I defy anybody but the most eagle eyed around to tell the difference between red and the orange hue they used from any distance at all. I'm thankful for rangefinders!

... Ain't that the truth? I had 7 birdies yesterday so swinging/playing really well. But on the 3rd hole I didn't "s" word but just glanced off the hosel squirting the ball a little right and under a tree for a bogie. Then on the 7th hole there is a steep cliff down the entire right side and a false front so short is a bogie or worse. Pin was back right so middle of the green was the play and I decided to take one more club and if I was long, I could still make par from the back fringe. Just an awful swing seemingly out of nowhere that I caught way out on the toe, losing distance and going right not even making the false front and it rolled all the way to the bottom of the ravine. Two par 3's and two terrible swings using the entire club face from hosel to toe, just not the middle. 🤪

Played Friday afternoon after we were slammed with heavy rainfall earlier in the week. A lot of courses were closed due to flooding, this one was open, and for the most part the whole course could have been considered "casual water" even in the driest parts. A lot of standing water, pools and large puddles, so it played as all carry and no roll at all.

Paired up with another twosome of late 30 to early 40 year old men, and had a fun time.

The front 9 for me was "scrambling" as I did not hit a lot of green in regulation, but the short game saved me for score, as I only had 13 putts on the front. The back 9 was better as far as greens in regulation, and also led to more 2 putt pars, so 16 putts on the back.

Posted a few pictures, and I did have a natural birdie, net eagle on the number 2 handicap hole. A par 5 where I hit 3 wood from the tee, utility wood from the fairway, and a wedge from about 100 yards and made the putt.

Next round for me is Sunday at a different course, so hopefully the ground dries out a bit before then.

38/38 today on Cimarron.  Game was solid all around and I, hopefully 🙏, busted the lid off the birdie drought with 3 today 🥳.  I almost had an eagle on #14 par 5. Drive found the fairway trap but I hit a great second shot with the TM Gapr 3 ( fwiw, I've found that club to be quite useful on long sand shots). My approach one hopped, hit the pin and was 6 inches away.  We had three foursomes and played 2 net/18 with carryovers (basically skins).  We won one of the carryovers, each getting back $9 of our $10.

Played early morning 9 holes 40

Yesterday able to fade my driver. 1st tee hook.  Settle down by the 3rd hole and played my draw all day which is comforting

OB twice but had fantastic short game. Got up and down several times and my putting was good. Able to see the line and central cut into the cup when I was inside 10 feet

Played two rounds today in northern Michigan. First round was at Crooked Tree Golf Club. Weather was supposed to be mid 70s and sunny, but ended up being rainy and low 60s.

Driver really wasn’t cooperating on this course. Ended up spraying balls everywhere and losing more than I care to admit. This course was extremely punishing if you couldn’t hit your driver somewhat straight.

Ended up shooting a 90, which is pretty disappointing given the 81 I shot yesterday.

After a lunch break we played Belvedere Golf Club in the afternoon. I really loved this course. It had an old-school country club vibe and a great course layout. Apparently this is the course Tom Watson played on growing up during the summer. The weather also turned around and was beautiful all afternoon.

I was able to figure out the driver this round, which was a great change from the morning. Ball striking was decent, but putting is where I really struggled. I lipped out SEVEN putts on this course. I’ve never wanted to snap my putter in half more.

When all was said and done, I was able to scramble for an 83, despite putting woes and a double on 18. Can’t be too disappointed when I’m knocking on the door of 70s twice within two days.

Playing one more course tomorrow morning to wrap up this Michigan golf trip. Hoping to end on a good note!

Made the trip over to Indianapolis today to play in my extended family’s annual golf outing, with my nephew and brothers-in-law. Over the years, this outing has been played at a handful of courses, but this year it was at Gray Eagle in Fishers. Nothing too fancy, but it was a nice course and set up well for a scramble. We finished 4 under, and given that the lowest handicap among the 3 is a generous 20, it was a hard fought 4 under for your boy. The TSR 3 continues to be money well spent, as my long for the day was a respectable 311 yards. The blades were solid, but not spectacular and I absolutely cannot wait for the new irons to arrive.

Due to the fact it was a scramble and not a handicap round, I was alternating between the Versa Double Wide and the new Scotty. I really like them both, so there is a putter battle brewing, as I need to pick one to finish the season with.

One of those rounds today. I felt like I played badly, but at the end of the day, putting saved my round. Only 29 putts compared to my usual 34-36, so I managed to finish up with an 85, tying my previous best. Made everything within 6 feet and had a few 20+ footers that just barely missed falling in. If I didn't hook every single drive today I should have had a much better round, but that was the weird struggle today. Goes to show that if I can tie my previous best without being able to get off the tee, in theory, I should have potential to shoot some lower scores. Hopefully one of these days I can turn this potential into reality.

Maybe my driver was just mad at me for trying out the Gen 6 yesterday, felt the need to punish me for looking at another club.

Had a fun time playing a four ball match yesterday.  Didn’t drive it as well, but made a few key up and downs and made some nice clutch putts.  Just got outplayed by our opponents with gross birdies on great approach shots, but happy we tried to keep it close.

My tee shots on par 3s is improving in recent rounds.  I credit the Takomo long irons and my hybrid for some better proximity to hole shots.  Well at least that’s what Arccos tells me! 🤣

Played up at chipping sodbury with my neighbour Wray and two of his mates. Was a really fun round, managed to hit par on three holes, hit 110 total. Only lost 2 balls which helps! Really enjoyable round, the holes that went wrong went reeeeaaalllyyyy wrong (couldn't get out of the trees on one hole even if I had a woodsman showing me the way) but all the rest were great. I had three holes wherein I one putted, 5 three putts, and the rest were solid two putts.

Bloody love this game!!

Played 18 on Friday shot 89 with a triple and double on each side. Tripled 9, a par 3. And 18 a par 4. The shot on 18 was the one that really frustrated me, I had 135 to the green all carry over a lake so I took one extra club and absolutely chuncked it in the Water. Hope everyone has a great round today.

Finished up an awesome weekend golf trip this morning with 18 at Arthur Hills in Harbor Springs, Michigan. This course was absolutely beautiful and in immaculate shape.

I’ve played pretty solid golf all weekend and I was able to finish off with an 84 this morning. The course plays at Par 73 so I was pretty happy with that score.

The driver was feeling great all day. I hit nearly every fairway and felt confident with my swing off the tee. My buddy I was playing with gave me a swing tip on my driver yesterday that has really helped me be more consistent. The tip was to keep the club head straight back from the ball for longer. It helped me avoid swinging too inside and I was able to stay on a better swing path.

My ball striking with my irons wasn’t superb today, but I scrambled well and made some good saves with my wedges and putting.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with how I played all weekend. Played four rounds between Friday and Sunday and shot 81-90-83-84. I can definitely feel my swing and scoring becoming more consistent and trending in the right direction. Getting closer to my goal of single-digit handicap by season end.

Excited to play again soon, but my body needs a few days of rest after that long weekend. Until next time!

Headed out with the wife yesterday morning to our club. It had rained all night (2 inches) so the course was very soft and path only, my wife doesn't walk. 🤣

Played decent overall but it's amazing how a few brain farts here and there make the difference between a decent round and a great round. Shot a 76 but could have gone several under if I didn't 3 jack a green, significantly short two chips I tried to get cute on and finally give a little extra on 18 trying to make a stroke back and took a stroke having to play back into the fairway from behind a tree. 😡

Eventually I'm going to play a mistake free round of golf again as it's been 15+ years since I've done that. Just so frustrating to make dumb mistakes that are absolutely avoidable!!!

Oh well, that's what brings us back again and again!!!

As for the wife...she's still learning golf after averaging 2 rounds per year in work scrambles until this year. She's played 12 rounds this year so far, actually had some very good shots but a lot of frustrating swings for her too. Shot 116 but I know she can do much better, just gotta keep at it and head to the range a bit more so I can help her on the fundamentals. Can't say enough how much I enjoy her starting to play more so we can spend the time together with our daughter off to college and being empty nesters!

Played the front two times this week which is a par 37 (three par 5s) and scored 38/40.  Getting more comfortable with my JPX923 irons.  Last week received my RTX6 52* and 56* wedges and had one short range session and these 18 holes.  Hit some great shots but still feeling iffy on my ranges on full and partial swings, but they induce incredible spin.

With my old clubs I had a 4h but no woods.  With the new, I purchased Ping G430 Max 5h, 7w and 4/5w.  Took several sessions to get them adjusted but now they are amazing.  On each par 5, I hit the 4/5w for my second shots leaving me with 20 - 70 approaches with great wedges n stead of 110-150 yard shots.  Overall, I’m 84% FIRs so that gives me a great setup.  But with the old clubs, I was only 39% GIRs. For these 18 holes, I was 13/18 GIRs.  If I can average 50%, I should be able to get my hdcp from my current lifetime low to below 10. Feels good to say as a 70 yo.
