Down the street from Trump (headed there after the round) and a fraction of the price.

Los Verdes is awesome. Used to go there a lot with my dad when I lived in CA. Crowded but one of the best deals in golf considering location and design.

Royal New Kent, Traditions at Stonehouse, and the tracks at Ford's Colony are usually in good condition, and always fun.

Forgot to grab pics of the actual course but played a local public course the night prior to the boy playing a tourney there; he finished runner-up in the city.

(P.S. If someone could direct me how to fix the orientation my pics upload, that'd be much appreciated.)

Congratulations to your son!!  Quite an accomplishment!

I can't help you on the pic orientation; every one that I have posted has been correct.  But I mostly use a photo editor to adjust and crop before posting.

Very seriously looking at St James Plantation (just inside the intercoastal waterway from Oak Island) for our retirement digs...

Was traveling through there with my wife about two weeks ago - we played at the Oak Island GC. Second day paired up with a nice younger guy who moved there from Rochester, NY. Definitely a nice area around there!!

Did not play Oak Island GC, but played two of the four courses in St James. Very nice area- Southport is a quaint town, and Oak Island is a south facing barrier island, which, at certain points during the year, provides the impression that the sun is setting into the Atlantic- very cool, and what hooked my wife, a California Girl at heart. sunset2.jpg

i vacation there twice a year. I do have a soft spot for that place. I have been going there since I was around 8/9 years old. I haven't played st James yet. Thought it was pretty private.

Awesome and I suppose that would entitled you to play a round of golf at Quail Hollow?

I wish they did it for this.

They don't? When I worked the PGA at Whistling I got a foursome at Black Wolf Run (Site of 2 Women's Opens and several PGA events) for every shift I took plus two tickets for each shift.

I drove VIPs.

Did three shifts. I've played Whistling. Black Wolf Championship is the better track IMO.

At any rate enjoy the excitement of a Major in your back yard!

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Maybe because Quail Hollow is a fully private course while Whistling and Black Wolf Run allows public play?

I have a friend who worked the Champions Tour at Sugarloaf every year and the volunteers were offered a day of golf post tournament.  Sugarloaf is a private community in Atlanta and he has played it several times over the years.  Also the Atlanta Athletic Club and East Lake as he has made the Georgia circuit for volunteering.  Well,,,, everything except Augusta National as there is a huge waiting list to volunteer for the Masters.  Even there the volunteers get a post tournament round of golf!

Heck buddy just ask  whoever the boss of the volunteers is.  You've been turned down by better people (ya momma) before so no loss huh?  Enjoy your time next week as I'm sure a ton of memories will be built!

Beautiful! Caught a closely similar view from a really nice restaurant on the beach, Island Way. There's also a fishing pier you can walk out on. Just watch out if one of those nasty hurricanes turns in towards that stretch of coast!!

Here are a few pics from my round today at Barwon Heads Golf Club.

IMG_0743.JPGIMG_0745.JPGIMG_0754.JPGIMG_0752.JPGIMG_0742.JPGIMG_0749.JPG

The course runs through the dunes just off Bass Straight. After 2 inches of rain in the last 3 days, not a puddle in sight.
